While at a Halloween party over the weekend, I a.k.a "The Mask" had the privilege of going for a ride in this most excellent example of a Lil Red Express Truck.

So I ran into an old friend of mine at one of our local car shows a couple weeks ago where I had my 64 854 on display. We started talking about this and that when he looked at my tractor and said I have one of these at the house. He said it was probably older but wasn't sure exactly. He said it looked a bit older than mine with no hood. Well that sparked my interest right away thinking it could be a Pond. I told him I wanted to look at it and took his number. I called him yesterday to see if I could come look at it, he agreed. I drove to his place this morning to find this in his small junkyard of stuff. Of course the engine is not the original and someone along the way added some width to the front end by welding spindles along side the kingpin holes. Is this one of the first 4 wheel Shaw tractors?

Another reason to get it... no one under 30... ok 40... would steal it... other than @Pullstart... they'd take one look and say "no steering wheel!!! What junk!!!"...

Can't help but here's a funny story. Worked at an auto parts store. We had a tool line that sold " Solar" brand battery chargers. Old fella came in and wanted to order a solar battery charger. So one of the guys gets out the catalog and shows him all of the "Solar" brand chargers. They pick out one that looks like the correct size for his needs. It comes in and the guy picks it up. Week goes by and he bring's it back and heads right to the guy who sold it to him. "I left this out in the sun and it does absolutely nothing" says the guy. My co worker says "You have to plug it in" They go back and forth not really figuring out the main issue. I'm standing on the opposite end of the counter trying not to split my guts open laughing. I let them go at it for 10 minutes before I walk over and say to them ."This gentleman wanted a solar charger that uses the sun. You sold him a "Solar" brand charger." They look at me and say "OOHH!"

Thanks. Actually, it was not nearly as difficult as I imagined it would be. The center disks were slightly larger diameter than the inside of the wheels, so I slowly ground each "wing" of the disk down as uniformly as I could until they just slid down into the rims. It turns out the backspacing they used on stock wheels is almost the exact thickness as a piece of 2x4 lumber laying on its side. I mean, it may be off by 1/8" or so, but its more than fine. There should be plenty of clearance, even if I move them over to a Hydro tractor at some point. So I just set the rim on my welding table, dropped a chunk of 2x4 in the bottom, lined the wings of the disk evenly around the valve stem, and hit it with some tack welds. Then flipped it over and double checked the backspacing with a straight edge and depth caliper. Everything lined up fine the first try, so I went back and ran a weld bead along each wing. Below is a pick of right before I tack welded it

Been a while since I have posted any pics on here. Usually on Saturday or Sunday mornings I pull the 86 K-20 out of the garage and do a 20 to 30 mile ride through the country side. Odometer turned 105,000 this morning. Seasons are changing by the look of the dual exhaust.

Picked up my new 953 seat made just the way I wanted... no its not "original" colors or pattern. But it's what I like and that's that!! Thanks Matt @grnlark for getting it put together by your father in law It's just sitting there--- someday soon I'll get the thing running and officially mount it Tony

Got some free wheels, tubes, and tires at work a few weeks ago, so I felt compelled to get them on the tractor. They are 24x12x12 Carlisle Turf Masters, and I mounted them on a set of 10.5x12 wheels. I just had to cut out the centers (they were the wrong bolt pattern) and weld in new center disks I picked up from Miller Tire. It was a fun project and I'm happy with the results. Not show quality, but then again, nothing I own ever is. Still debating if I want to pull them back off and fill them with fluid. They would be a serious bear to wrestle back on after that.

hello, I live in the center of France. i'm not really a great collector but i love old mecanics like stationnary motors, tractors, all antics machines. I bought a raider 14 yesterday to a Neighbors. Wheel horse product is unknown in France and there's no informations. So... I'm here to find help. My WH has the electrical lift option but it had been badly repared . Some parts of the original mounting system are gone. there is a rota tiller. I need u help for pictures to see how it was . The cable is broken too. thanks for u help (excuse me for my poorly language: translators are Worth!!!

Yup. But it works great so I’m just a little more careful than I used to be. I’ve easily had over 1000 pounds in big stones and rocks in it.

Those are sweet! As standard tire sizes keep getting smaller, I'd have to agree that ATV tires are a good pick. Mine are 25-10-12, and they add an inch or two in ride height.

On the rear tank models such as yours the fuel pump has a fair amount of work to do. Get a marine primer bulb and Replace ALL your fuel line front to rear. Before start just squeeze the bulb a couple times and voila!! Faster starts.

Time to resurrect another older thread! We haven’t used Blackbeard much in the last 24 months because the tires on three of four corners are shot. It is time to get some new treads for Zach so he can use his tractor again. The natural fit for it would be AG tires but I’ve noticed that it is getting increasingly difficult to find AG’s for 15” rims. Also, Zach really wants to use this tractor for multipurpose use (mowing, snow blowing, plowing, grader working, etc). The ever burgeoning ATV/UTV market has supplied us with a bunch of options when it comes to tires that weren’t available just a few short years ago. I’m looking for opinions on what you guys would go with. Here is a couple of tires that I found last nite… These are similar to the tires that @19richie66 put on Skittles. I tried to find those that he used and apparently they are no longer available in the size we need. @Pullstart and I did discuss the possibility of changing to 5 lug hubs and going with a 12” rim which has a TON of options both inside and outside the ATV market.🧐🤔 what think you men? If you have any leads on good priced 15” tires—I’d be interested! Secondly, as I stated earlier in this thread…I had one of the hydraulic lines blow off Blackbeard while mowing a few years back. I only ran it one long pass before turning and realizing that HyTran was gushing out and I shut it down. I replaced the hoses and refilled but it seems to me that it has been weak since then making a high pitched whine while in operation. I have another Sundstrand pump from an early Blackhood, does anyone know if it is the same? I know that is a strong hydro and I’ll switch them out if it will work… Zach is a good kid and after seeing Eric plowing with his GT-14 at Jim’s last weekend, I’ve got to get this thing rolling for Zach. Plus the wrench time with him will be far more beneficial than screen time👍🏻

You mean from a 'dually' truck right? Great idea but I'm pretty sure finding wheels like that in the Netherlands is going to be near impossible let alone expensive. Same goes for the tires. The best option I found so far are 6.5/80-15 (or there about) tires, still pretty costly especially when going the dual wheel route. Rims is no problem, I'll probably buy good used or new rims off a car and cut the centers out and make my own. The rims are as cheap as $10 each for used or $35 each new. About the fluid filling, thank you all. Once again all your responses show that there is so much knowledge here. Great experiment on your part @Pullstart never thought about saturating a fluid like that to make it heavier. Did you try it in your wheels yet? Also I could'nt make out from the video how much weight you gained by adding the sugar? Guess water and sugar are environmentally 'ok' options but for real weight I should fill the tires with mercury, whopping 13,5kg/L or 30lbs/fl. quart!

Mine pull this one loaded like it’s nothing too. But stopping could be an issue. Thankfully I’ve never had a problem stopping them. Well except for when I hit some ice going down hill. The snow bank at the bottom of the path stopped us.

Did a couple trailers of round wood today on my dads cordwood processor “Buster”. Mostly small stuff since he just cut a dead ash tree down. The processor was set up so we loaded it all on to it since it was there. It was a little over Kill for the project. Beats bending down to cut then pick up all the small pieces. I loaded all of it into the trailer behind my bronco 14 and transported it the 70 feet to the wood pile.

We have. She and I both like the look of wood grain and stained wood. It's a longevity issue. We're actually using solid stains. NOT paint. I keep writing paint because I'm.... silly. 🤪 Solid stain lifespan is 10 to 15 years. Semi solid is 5 to 10 years. Clear stains last 2 to 4 years. My experience in this environment shows the earlier is the norm, particularly on the bottom 2 to 3 feet of a building. We don't want be sanding and recoating every 2 or 3 years.

Finally put the battens on the cabin rough sawn siding. They have been under the bunks for years. Can tell by the color difference. Hopefully 2023 will see a wash down on the siding and a coat of Sikkens. 420-LSE helped out. Weather was unreal today.

Seems like the "old style" PTO clutch face. I don't know the exact year range, but the older (maybe 1960-ish to 1973?) used a smaller diameter PTO. I may be wrong, but I think everything after C-series used 6 and 1/4 inch.

And this is where I can agree, disagree and maybe even agree some more with EB, all in the same breath. AGs are classic. I’m sure Josh wouldn’t go any other way, if there was an affordable solution. These are UTV tires, Interco Interforce II, 27x10.50-12. Small wheels on a big wheel. Big tires on small wheels on a big wheel. I would ALMOST argue that it looks even more “Big Tractor” now with more rubber. Either way, we need to find that balance between yard chores and the occasional furrow. I can’t see either of the tires you found @PeacemakerJack as letting you down as an amazing all purpose tread.

These tires are nowhere near as aggressive as those ATV/UTV tires Josh, but with no added weight did pretty OK. Not great but they are just all terrains. I have a feeling that fluid filling, or adding wheel weights, would do great improvements. The tires you show above have much larger lugs, much larger spacing too. I bet they’d impress even the plow dogs.

An excellent recommendation.. Trina already started doing exactly that earlier today.

Is that a plastic pump? Don't think Then & Now kits work well on plastic ones. Did you mount the electric pump below the bottom of your fuel tank? They are good pushers but they suck at sucking.
