Tierod that is, replaced with 7/16- 20 rod end from McMaster- carr. Made 7" 5/8 rod, drilled and taped.

The 22R is a great durable engine - drove a 1978 SR5 for 2 years at work - great truck. Vacuum leak ??? Check the hoses and connections using a spray hydrocarbon (like WD-40) with the engine running. When you find the bad spot, the idle will smooth out as it sucks the additional fluid in......

Today's fun for the builders was installing the clay colored trim around the edges of the metal roof and working on the pine siding some more. After this they'll move to the front. Install green painted boards on the upper floor just like they did at the back here. Whatever painted boards are left will be installed on lower portions where we can reach easily with a paintbrush or roller.

It may be as simple as oxidation on the points - particulary if the points are new. A crisp new dollar bill dragged thru the points when closed can do wonders...

Also just found that we're almost waterproof too. Most of the ridge cap is now on.

I found the worn spline & couplings at the edge, so off to find replacements. "Always love the challenge of finding obsolete parts" Coupling 2-7502 Shaft 2-9539 The factory spline really took a beating at the double sheave end of the 11 spline, as did the shaft as well. Typical issue with this design I found the couplings out of warehouse in Chicago and the spline was machined of 4140 rated 160,000, so it matches the hardness of the couplings no problem Lyle Mack, Greencastle ,PA can make any spline or gear out there or in a drawing

Since I got the tractor running again I wanted to mount the battery properly. The previous owner had it strapped down with tie-raps/cable binders which was not up to my specs. I wanted something quick and dirty so a little welding and a few purchased items made up the new battery tray. Purists look away please

Massachusetts had youth deer hunting day on the first Saturday of October. This state won’t let the kids start hunting til 12 but at least they get to hunt. This was Aiden’s second year out. Last year he tagged a small doe. This year he has a goal that he was gonna shoot a buck. One of my very good buddies let’s me take my kids to his area because the does are pretty predictable and he would rather see kids get a deer than him. It’s also easy to get to for the kids. Well we walked in to the stand before daylight this year and just as we get to the stand we hear something run off. We climbed in to begin waiting til shooting light. 15 minutes later I hear something moving to our right. The wind was blowing towards us. Half a second later it blew towards it and we hear the typical deer blowing. Still 15 minutes til legal shooting light and we can’t see a thing. It moves in closer and starts blowing again. Then trotted off. Now at this point I was thinking to myself alright the hunts over here but we are gonna stick it out since we don’t have a whole lot of time to get to my spot. Day light comes and I start scanning. About 10 minutes later I see a deer on the trail we walked in on and Aiden gets situated to take a shot in the next shooting lane. Of course this deer has another idea and turns back around and starts walking slowly back the way it came with no care in the world. Little did it know of the little sharp shooter sitting in a tree 40 yards away. It stepped into the only shooting lane he had left to shoot threw and I see it’s a buck. I stopped it and Aiden pulled the trigger. We hear the deer run off as we wait for the little bit of smoke to clear from the muzzle loader he chose to hunt with that morning. He swears he hit it. We give it a half hour which is a eternity for him. As we climb down he goes in front of my friends camera and gives a thumbs up. Next thing I know I’m getting a call saying “why’s he giving me a thumbs up?” So I went threw the whole story. We walked over to where the deer was and absolutely no blood or hair. Followed the trail we could clearly see in the woods and no blood or hair. At this point I’m getting worried he missed. Aiden keeps telling me dad I know I hit it. I wasn’t going to give up anyway. With aiden in the lead I was checking off to the left in the thick brush when I hear “Dad I found him!!!!!” His second deer ever and a beautiful 6 pointer. He put a perfect shot on it. Not a drop of blood left this guy. Didn’t go 80 yards. another long story for you guys.

What got my interest was the fact that a true 2K clear will not react with whatever base coat it is applied to. Since it is not a chemical, but a mechanical adhesion, it does not wrinkle, lift, or change the color of the paint beneath it. As much as I have tried to get a nice glossy finish with the rattle can Krylon, I have been instructed to use 600 grit sandpaper or comparable Scotchbrite on all the surfaces to create "tooth" for adhesion. I have to admit that my 13 year old grandson has done a pretty good job of painting, but I'm am not happy with the way that it chips so easily. I am a stickler for safety in painting, and have let him paint using a half-face respirator with 3M filters for the Krylon, but I'm not letting him anywhere near the 2K stuff. Later this school year, (he's in 8th grade) they are allowing him to go to the high school Career & Technology center to take a semester in autobody. He is quite excited about that.

We're getting the pine siding put on the back of the barn today. Already been painted green so the real scheme of color is there. Looks absolutely fantastic!!

@SylvanLakeWH Love the anti theft sticker. This a true story . Number of years ago I was Volvo dealer for some reason . Told the service guy to make sure wife's Volvo was clean after they washed it. Lady standing next to me says" they wash your Volvo after service ,they never wash mine" . Turns out she had a 5 speed stick and none of the lot kids could drive it. Service guy about s* * * a brick. They had to train the lot guys on how to shift gears.

Like to see a few more shots of your wonderful "Barn Find" but it appears to be 1955 to 1957 Ride on Junior. That was one of the earliest Wheel Horses made. The one in the foreground is a 1957.

Jada will grok "friction zone" and with WH clutch experience it'll be a pretty easy transition to add shifting. But the very next thing in my book is to learn how to come to a controlled stop and have it become muscle memory! It was part of every single practice session until I was satisfied it had become automatic. With no traffic around, I'd make them stop from lots of different speeds as fast as they could, or stop exactly next to a mailbox, or on a curve. This was on dry, wet, and snowy pavement as well as on gravel and dirt. And they had to check the mirrors when stopping. IMHO is NOTHING about driving that is "intuitive"--it is ALL learned behaviors. And we all know how hard it is to unlearn a bad habit. All three of my children (and my wife) tell me that it was challenging learning to drive from me--they observed that I was patient and never yelled but I was relentless with the basics and lots of practice in all situations. In our household, you had to log 1,000 miles of supervised driving in all situations before you could take the road test.

Is the ignition coil the proper internal resistance type. There are three main types of coils that find their way into the points-based tractors, 1. THE CORRECT COIL = this coil has a “internal resistor" within the coil body that restricts the amount of current that flows thru the points and coil combo. The internal primary resistance of this type coil can be measured with a multimeter at about 3 - 4 ohms. If 12 volts powers a 4-ohm resistance, 3 amps flows and that equates to about 36 watts of power - warm but not hot. 2. INCORRECT COIL - REQUIRES EXTERNAL RESISTOR - this look alike is visually identical to the correct coil but its internal wiring can overheat if an "external resistor" is not used in series with the coil. The primary resistance of this coil will be in the 1 - 2-ohm range. The external resistor accounts for another 2 ohms. Properly configured, this combo is the equivalent of the 4 ohm internal resistor coil discussed above. If this coil is used alone, the electrical system will see the lower resistance and double the current flowing thru the coil and points. The result is over-heating the coil and premature eroding away the point's contacts. 12 volts powering a 1.5 ohm circuit equals 8 amps of current flowing and generating nearly 100 watts of heat and energy. We are now seeing the coil get hot. 3. ELECTRONIC IGNITION COILS - these are the high energy bad boys of the ignition world and demand gigantic gulps of current to operate as intended. They will fry points within minutes. The primary resistance of this style coil is usually well under 1 ohm and current draw can be near 20 amps. These coils are fine if you drive them with electronic ignition modules. They will fry GT wiring very quicky. 20 amps of current flowing thru this circuit generates over 200 watts of power. Wires melt, points vaporize. Measure your primary ignition coil resistance. Anything less than 3 ohms and you have either a shorted coil or an incorrect coil on the tractor. A correct coil should be labeled "12 volts" . If you see "external resistor required" on the coil or the coil looks like it came out of a spaceship, you have the wrong coil.

You want to use a spray that will not be detrimental to the rubber or plastic parts. WD-40 is pretty mild...

@Ed Kennell dropped another deck , for plow swap , deck was very clean , had it looking at the sun , with an oil soak down going on , lightly touched up blades , grease spindles , when surface dry , will be up against the wall , with a spring pull assist . did a few tweaks on the plow , works very easy , next step is chains and tow hitch weight . pete

I think you would have a fieldtrip with this one aswell as the sweeper. Sooo many greasing points and opportunities for overall improvement. Like I mentioned before though big improvements will have to wait for now. That being said, being able to start the tractor with the key instead of putting the wire against the positive terminal of the battery is a big plus! (See what I did there?) I will snap a few pictures of some areas that need a little TLC so you can see what the other, bigger, jobs will be. If all goes well I'll be out sweepin' tomorrow. I'll try to take some video so you people can see the sweeper in action.

Still no shooter bucks showing during the daylight hours. Our 3 day senior doe only season started today. So I filled a doe tag at 7AM this morning. I have been riding the 312H the 1/2 mile to my tree stand so we had a passenger on the trip home.

The 2023 25th Annual Wheel Horse Show will be the largest Wheel Horse Show in history, now the annual show has always been the biggest single make and the largest of the garden tractor shows PERIOD! We are even bigger than a lot of the big boy tractor makes with their shows. We have surpassed the 1,000-tractor mark several times over the years but the 2023 25th will be ..... well I'm hoping to see RJ-58's lined up all the way down to the center of Gettysburg! Flags from the different states and county's sure would show a lot of pride during the parade. And ya'll gotta' study up on the RJ-58 cause ya' never know when I might jus' have the microphone in my hand and ask you a question. @Handy Don, it worked! We started in 4 low, then graduated to 2 high. We can safely manage about 35-40 mph in the field, being beans this year and we’re driving with the rows. Shifted through 4th gear each time, at first her just working the pedals, then her hand on the shifter to feel the movements and me guiding the way. Same deal, me with calm instruction and plenty of patients. The Jeep is perfect to learn with, as it is very forgiving even in the field. I can shift it up to about 3rd gear with no throttle. It got dark quick, but we had fun. I love the moments when I get a real hug, not just a good morning or good night hug… but something like we did a thing that matters. By the end of the light time, she was ready for a break and I was ready to play a little. We drove to the rock pile tree but 4 low wouldn’t engage. Mind you, I promised Jada she couldn’t break the thing! We managed to climb and play and laugh in 4 high as we bounced over the rocks and Listened to rocks and sticks find parts of the frame, bumpers, etc. Rylee is excited to learn as well and I feel like it might come even easier for her. She’s the most frequent rider in the family, shy of myself. I am positive though, Jada’s years of running tractors, and her assurance that even if the Jeep were to break it didn’t matter, and our unlimited time frame of practice, all gave her a comfortably place to learn.

At Idle speed the engine vacuum is at it's highest. You need that vacuum to pull fuel though the idle passages on the carb. It would be nice to hook up a vacuum gauge to the engine. It would tell a lot. Could be late valve timing/ worn chain, leaky valves, late ign timing ect.

No lords here but we have a terrier cattle dog mix with an interesting attitude. Also a crazy 🐻. Also a BBT.

Is something wrong with the replacement carb? Rebuild the original carb and see if the problem goes away.

Thank you for asking in advance. It is important to chase the threads in your spindle with a tap before inserting the bolts so you get an accurate reading. Also, it is best to replace the steel bolts with Stainless Steel fasteners. If you are using grade 5 steel bolts, 5/16" the proper torque is 15 foot pounds, if they are 3/8" it will be 25 foot pounds. With Stainless Steel the torques would be 11 and 20 respectively. What type of fastener is best for aluminum? While many people worry that stainless steel fasteners, such as screws, bolts, nuts, or host of other options, won't work with aluminum due to the risk of galvanic corrosion between the two very different metals, the truth is that stainless steel is the metal of choice for fasteners to secure your aluminum materials
