Hey folks. Just received my 3rd message about a RS member going by Fordeen that is using the wanted section to scam us. Here’s what was happening: I post in the wanted section that I need a mcgluger pin…Fordeen messages me that he knows someone with a mcluger pin for sale and provides an email address. I email the address given, strike up a deal and make some sort of electronic payment. After payment all communication stops, and the scam is complete. Karl has banned Fordeen BUT…if you are currently in negotiations/communications with Fordeen or with the email address he provided STOP IMMEDIATELY!

Sometimes...for one reason or another we find ourselves in a situation where we have to rehome some of our projects. I found myself in one of those situations a couple years ago, and had to make the tough decision to let these 4 Horses go to a new home. Luckily for me the new owner was a good friend of mine and agreed that if he ever decided to get rid of them I would have first chance at getting them back. A couple months ago Joe came by the shop and asked me if I wanted to buy the C125 and tiller back from him. I ended up trading him some labor on a Massey Ferguson 135 he picked up at auction for it. Went out to pick it up after work and he told me I might as well load up the other three as well, as he is probably never going to do anything with them. Had to buy a battery for the C125, but it fired right up and ran as smoothly as it always did. Need to fix the exhaust, not sure what happened there but it's kinda crooked now. Still need to go back and get the rest of the parts he has that go with them, then maybe as a winter project we will get the 1076 up and running.

Well the snake got agitated at the guy poking it with the grabber and decided to quickly crawl out out on its own. The poor "Snake Specialist" guy was laying on the floor working the grabber and camera and really had to scramble out of the way! My wife was at the far end of the kitchen and I think she jumped over the couch to get on top of it. The snake guy had his snake tool and I had a shovel and we kept the snake back and forth in the center of the kitchen until he could pin it down. He carried it to a cage in his vehicle to relocate it. It actually was a non poisonous diamond back water snake. I know it didn't happen without a picture. So here's one from my cell phone endoscope camera with the snake in the corner under the kitchen cabinet behind the toe space.. That endoscope thing has paid for itself several times! sorry pic is upside down and I'm to tired to fit it. PS, through this whole thing I kept my cool and left the shotgun locked up. I didn't want to have to remodel the whole kitchen due to gun shot holes!

When transacting here or anywhere for that matter, check how long the member had been a member. In this case they were members for less than 1 day, which should be suspect.

@ClassicTractorProfessor I recently saw this at a show and was thinking about you. I seem to recall you having a Cushman and a small Hit and Miss engine

Go to your local craft shop and get a medium sized straw hand woven basket with a lid. Get some ham or other type of luncheon meat… Place the basket in the kitchen floor with the lid off. You will also need a finger flute and a burgundy colored bath towel… Wrap the towel around your head in the shape of a turbin… Sit in the floor cross-legged and play the finger flute . After the snake comes out and crawls in the basket, put the lid on it and remove basket from house… Take the ham or luncheon meat and make a sandwich… Keep the doors closed…

512-D is alive again. I will make a seperate topic to track the progress on this machine. Today I cut out some more spaghetti and installed a new ignition switch. Found that the ignition switch was bad and so is a inline fuse which will get replaced. I'm now on the hunt for some foam/filter mesh and a filter element/insert/cartridge for the oilbath filter of the Robin diesel engine. Battery will probably have to be replaced aswell. I call it 'seeing into the future'. And I might add, learn to LISTEN! to that little voice in your head telling you to STOP! immediately!!! That little voice gets louder when you train yourself to HEAR it ! Some call that voice your "Guardian Angel" trying to protect you. I can relate two incidents when I'm absoulutely 100% positive that my guardian angel saved me... 1. I was about 12 years old and playing at a local lake where they had a 'spillway' with concrete walls about 25 feet high. There was no fence. We used to fish for Shad in the pool at the bottom of the spillway. I was standing on the edge fishing when a gust of wind made me lose my balance. I tried to catch myself but realized I was going down. When... alla sudden, someone grabbed my shirt and pulled me back. I fell backwards on my a55. And... there was nobody near me! That 25' fall to concrete surely would have killed me, and if not, I would have drowned. There was probably a verbal warning, but I didn't hear it... yet. 2. I was on a cross street to a local highway waiting for the light to change. I was second in line to a pickup truck. The light changed and I CLEARLY heard my Grandmother's voice yell: "WAIT!!!!! THAT GUY IS GOING TO GET HIT!!!" And it shocked me ! It was LOUD!!! And I didn't proceed... and sure enough, some fool was running that red light and broadsided the pickup truck. As the car that hit him spun around it missed the front of my truck by probably less than a foot or so. Nobody was killed thankfully. So folks, whether you believe in angels or not... LISTEN TO THAT LITTLE VOICE! TRAIN YOUSELF TO HEAR IT!

Hi all. This topic will be dedicated to the upgrades and modifications I'm going to do to my 512-D with sweeper attachment. The plan was to complete my mini IH 1468 before starting to work on the Wheel Horse but since the leaves are coming down quick I developed an 'itch' to get working on the Wheel Horse. First things first, I had to get it running again. New ignition switch and new inline fuse, aswell as cutting out all unnecessary (for now) stuff solved the non-running issue. Dashboard wiring seems to be OK This is a mess. Two unnecessary relais, one unnecessary switch and a bunch of unnecessary wires everywhere. Next up will be a new battery and probably some modifications to the pto-clutch and new oil all around. Also I'm on the lookout for new filter elements for the oilbath filter for the Robin DY41D engine. Done for now. Major upgrades and or restoration will have to wait until after I finish the Murray to IH 1468 project. Running again. Listen to that THUMP! Almost forgot to mention.. probably needs some new rubber mounts Greetings from the Netherlands, Mark

Don't forget about the fact that the humans are becoming more and more oblivious to their surroundings. Just like the old adage that some people should never pick up a tool, or that so-and-so don't know the working end of a screwdriver, there are people that should not be in outdoor wild areas without assistance or guidance. I don't necessarily mean that in a negative way. It could be the environment that you're accustomed to. A perfect example is this: Up here in the Northeast you NEVER step on a log in the forest because there's a better than fair chance that it could be rotted and you'll slip and break your ankle or something else. On the other hand if you're in a dry arid country such as much of the South you ALWAYS step on that log because there's a better than fair chance that if you step down on the other side of it there may be something waiting there to bite your ankle. Purchasing hiking boots doesn't make you a hiker any more than purchasing cowboy boots makes you a cowboy.

I don't have to think about it. I need to remember it. Little incident today in the workshop. Lying down on my side refitting the drain plug in the B80 trans, reached round behind me and up for a rag, rather quickly. Immediately felt dizzy, sick and broke into a sweat. Went into the house on unsteady legs. That finished me for the day. Took quite a while to recover. Not the first time something like this has happened. I NEED to remember to get up SLOWLY.

Good on you for standing up for what you believe Kollin! I don’t hate JD, I even have one. It’s yellow industrial. I still prefer my Horses though. Like Ford, Ram and Chevy, and maybe even Toyota and other brands, there will always be some poking. I’m a bow tie guy through and through but understand that it takes all kinds to make the competition, to make things better.

Yup. I had a dumpster delivered yesterday. Today, I loaded the beams and joists of the 10' x 30' front porch roof into it. Used my chainsaw to cut the large wooden beam into manageable pieces. I had most of it loaded into the dumpster and just had a couple more pieces to go. I then realized that I was getting tried. Had an argument with mself - just a couple more pieces, just push through. No, don't do that, you will trip and fall while carrying one of those things and break something. In my younger days, I would have finished up. Now that I am older and supposedly wiser, I decided that those last couple of pieces will be just fine where they are, and I'll load them tomorrow.

Well the good news is the snake pest guy has found it under the cabinet using my plumbing endoscope camera. The good in that is it confirms its not somewhere else in the house. He says it is a yellow bellied water snake, non poisonous. we used a hole saw and drilled a hole from inside the dishwasher area and a hole from the refrigerator area. The hard part is he's trying to grab it with a long grabber and the snake keeps moving from one end of the cabinet base to the other. With time we will prevail. @ebinmaine I have no problem with snakes that stay outside in their environment I would say the house is my wife's environment. She would hurt someone if that snake came out and surprised her, and most likely it would be me!..

Hello fine people of red square as you may know I’m 13 and have an interest in three wheelers so I’ll explain what happened. so I was on my muddy Honda atc70 and it was dark and we went to a spot we usually ride but I insisted “no lights “ and I was riding in the darkness of 7:45ish pm and all the sudden my frame smacked a big rock I didn’t see and the side of my lower chest hit the kill switch which doesn’t work and I said well kill switch kills and we rode on but with our lights on. I do have a little gash but I’m fine luckily. Kollin

So over the past last year my mother has been going in and out of the hospital for cancer treatments and since her diagnosis has been spending more time at her house, she has been in a band for over 40 years and with a band that has been around for well over 40 years it acquires alot of sheet music. Well my mother never wasting a moment to rest has volunteered to sort and organize and scan and file and Efile the 1000s and 1000s of sheets of music. So needless to say her small computer desk wasn't holding up to the job and was just a little bit to small for everything to fit comfortably. So she had asked me to make her a new one, and shortly after she asked me I ended up acquiring a work related injury that limited my movement ability and made my little bit of free time even less so I had not got around to it. A few days ago she got admitted back into the hospital for a short stay so I decided to try and get the desk all cut out and put together. Now I'm far from a great wood worker especially compared to some of the post I see on this site BUT what I make will be alot stronger and more solid then 95% of the stuff you find at box stores these days and it's nice to build what you want and not have to make something work for what you need. Desk isn't done but should be soon!

And if you do have to cut them, go slowly and don't let the heat build up. Maybe even 'heat sink' them by threading a nut onto the bolt first. The extra mass should help in keeping the heat from traveling too far down the bolt. In fact, when I cut any bolt I always do that in an effort to be able to 'chase' the threads after cutting. I've even threaded the correct die onto the bolt first.
  26. 4 points
Using an abrasive cutoff wheel on the bolt will change the heat treat of the bolt in the area adjacent to the cut, maybe up to 1/8" away from the cut. Assuming that the affected area will be sticking out of the nut in the assembly, the strength of the bolt should not be changed.

I've expressed my appreciation for JD before--they have stood the test of time with quality equipment. More than a few members here own and use their stuff. I also admire Wheel Horse for designing and building quality equipment at a lower price point for a particular range of users that happens to include me! Especially important is that Wheel Horses, having used many "standard" components and straightforward engineering in their designs, can be maintained by ordinary "shade tree" mechanics without having to resort to dealer support.

Blue racers are neat. They are a good looking snake and you can play chase you, chase me with them. One of the other engineers I worked with did not like snakes one little bit. One day he was in my office and one of the production guys showed up with a Starrett box. He handed it to Lou and asked what that gage was for. Lou opens the box to find a dead garter snake in it. Lou was up and out of the chair he was sitting in and clear of my office before that box hit the floor!

I cannot answer if you do or do not NEED to cut them,,,,, but, if you decide to cut them, they are hardened thru, not just the surface. They would need to be either ground or disc sanded, but do not overheat them - that kills the temper and defeats the purpose of using them......

who needs a hose for a shower? Just a bucket with some holes in the bottom, hanging from a tree limb works just fine. You'd only need to use it once a month or so, right?

If you bore a K161 out to the size of a K181 you will most likely not be able to use the K161 crank and connecting rod. I don't have every thing in my hand to measure but I would assume that the piston deck height ( distance from the wrist pin to the top of the piston ) is different from one engine to the other to accommodate for the length of the stroke. Looking at the numbers, a K181 piston on a K161 crank and rod may not reach all the way to the top of the cylinder at TDC. This would result in low compression. All the above is just theory that would need to be proved out with the proper measuring tools.

Revisited my RM deck for the 854. It was still noisier than I thought it should be and I'd recently discovered a service bulletin in the forum files that called for swapping in longer (⅛") spindles and adding thrust bearings on some decks. Found I'd put two different length spindles on it (from two different parts decks) and not the spindles/gears with the tightest woodruff key slots or with the bearings. Also discovered, on close examination, that two of the six blade holders in the bin had setscrews to lock them to the spindles--I missed that before because the setscrew holes were filled with debris and I didn't notice them--I'd just used the cleanest ones . So now with thrust bearings above and below the spindle housing, tight keyways, snug shafts and bearings, and the previous shim to remove lash from the cross-shaft gear, there is no play anywhere and it is like a whole new animal! Quiet and smooth. Worth a couple hours work!

@peter lena well life happened I guess. After I went to the harvest-show I kinda lost motivation to work on the Murray to IH project. At the same time we decided to paint some furniture so that meant no grinding and welding allowed Furniture moved indoors so now I can start playing again. About the bearing, thanks for bringing that up. I'll need it. The steering shaft is looking pretty sad as it sits now. Might have to replace or atleast repair it since it is badly worn, gears look to be OK. Same goes for the pto-clutch engagement thing-a-ma-bob.. it was held in place with a 4" long woodscrew.. talk about ingenuity I have no experience with diesel-fuel treatment. Tank looks clean but I have'nt opened the fuel filter assembly yet. I'm assuming it's pretty clean since there is no white smoke.. only black, which I believe is OK.

After taking out a bolt in the transmission top, replace it with a set screw to keep debris out. The second one will be the worst since the support will be completely loose, just try to prevent any movement till the second set screw is in place. No matter how well you clean, there will still be something ready to fall in.
