Started prepping the 308 for “possible” winter duty. This year it’s getting 25# inside weights and 50# outside weights. I don’t like mowing with all that weight so here’s how I mount em up so that the inside and outside weights are separate and in the spring I can easily remove the outside weights while leaving the inside weights installed. I don’t think weights need all 4 holes used to stay put. All mine are held on with two bolts and have never been a problem. Use two holes and short bolts to mount the inside weights. Then use the opposite 2 holes and longer all-thread to mount up the outside weights. When ya want the outsides off its just two bolts and they’re off and the inside weights stay right where they are. Not exactly rocket science, but years ago when I first mounted up double weights I didn’t do that and it’s a major pain to install and uninstall the weights. In my case the long bolts needed to be 9.5”, prepped up 4 setups for mounting once I get some paint on the weights.

We live in the forest and I used my 418 with leaf blower yesterday to clean off the driveway and a couple hours later you couldn't even tell I'd been there. Mulching leaves with a 42" rear discharge deck while towing a 42" lawn sweeper will give me more compost for the gardens in a couple years. I get more seat time dealing with autumn leaves than any other time of the year but love the fall color.

Started on my neighbors wife’s “she shed”. It is being built on an out of square, out of level old dog kennel pad.Took some figuring to get the top plate on the wall to come out level…

On a couple of redo shift bangers, in addition to a new shifter boot, placed a heavy o-ring on the hi/lo shaft to keep out moisture.

Used the trailer with fresh wheels (installed this morning) to help with the garden clean up.

It’s a Milwaukee portable bandsaw. Super handy!! A small electrical shop was closing up near me and all his stuff was up for sale. This bandsaw had seen almost no work, nearly mint condition. But nobody wanted it because it wasn’t cordless, so when I showed interest he said $80 and it’s yours. Couldnt say no to that plus it had a brand new spare blade and the plastic carry case. In my garage I’m never more that 10’ from an outlet so it’s perfect for me. It’s like $299 for a brand new one.

"Gone Farming" A friend of mine, Tom, and his brother Ron, help a local area farmer, Donnie, with his farming operation. Ron recently had knee surgery that didn't go well, so he is laid up for a while. I took his place this fall, hauling corn to to the elevator. Tom and I haul corn, jockey trucks and tractors to the different fields, and other various chores. We start about 7 every morning to about 7 at night. The farmer, Donnie, runs the combine. He won't let anyone else do that. In the spring, Donnie does the planting. Again, he won't allow anyone else to plant. Donnie, a widower, lives alone, and fends for himself. His wife died many years ago. They had no children. During the year he takes care of his farming operation pretty much by himself. He farms about 600 acres and rents out the rest of his land. Tom is a bit younger than I, he is 62. Ron is 70. Donnie the farmer just turned 101 this past July, but you would never know it. He is amazing to watch.

I wasn't gonna mention it! Was gonna let somebody else do the dirty work... but you beat them to it! I'm waiting a bit to install the blower on the 175 so I can use the mowing deck to mulch up the leaves when they fall.

Made a little over 620 miles today and picked this guy up. Got for for a really good price but it needs a lot of TLC too. Gitty up and cheers! One pic is of a hood hinge repair. I like it so I’m keeping it on this one. 😜

Don't fix it if it ain't broke. Just put a linen tag on it that says "It wasn't me." Get another shifter at the show and hang that one on the wall. I wonder how it got broke??? Probably by the same guy that welded that?? The new boot sure makes that weld job stand out, maybe tape the old boot around the new one.

Looks like the same routing I should be using on the one that I picked up a few months ago. The PO had the belt wrapped right around the bottom of everything and just snugged right up tight as a drum. It worked..... Bugs me to look at it though.

Painted my idler pulleys and put on a new belt on my tall chute 2004 snowblower attachment today! ***** And it looks like Saturday I will install the new belt correctly! *****

Just mounted some weights. Their off a simplicity. About 25 lbs each, so total of around 100 lbs. Used 3/4 PVC as a spacer to have bolt tension prior to sliding the weights into place. Seemed to make the install easier and probably less damage to the paint on the rims.

I keep expecting the next picture to feature a small trailer with 10 clowns popping out of it!

Looks like he just turned the tensioner up side down to be able to use the one tensioner pulley with a short belt. No tensioner works on two rigid fixed distance pulleys, but the PTO to blower drive pulley distance changes quite a bit over the blower lift range. The belt would surely jump off without a tensioner.

Ordered in couple of these thought they were fitting, gonna give them a shot and try them out. Hoping they are on the same level of quality as the tractors!

Looks like you had a little water in that oil. You should be fine with the 85W-140. Just let it run a few minutes in winter before starting out. We don't usually get snow when it is below zero degrees, so it seems like we don't use the horse in really cold weather. I know it is usually teens to twenties when I get snow I need to move.

Friend had a little boat and trailer. Wanted to go fishing and one of the trailer tires "stopped working " so he grabbed a wheel off a yard trailer he had. There was "Not for Highway Service" written on it. He figured why not it's only a couple of miles. Went fishing got it home and forgot about it. Following spring he sells the boat to a guy who has to tow it 100 miles. About an hour after the guy left he remembers that tire.
