19 pointsI've been slowly relocating to Hancock County Tennessee over the past several months. I sold my house in York, PA right before Christmas last year and stayed in my nephew's townhouse until I could make the move. I just changed my driver's license and registration yesterday. I'm now living in a double wide on a friend's farm in the mountains. He has over two square miles of land and I'm surrounded by trees. Plenty of trails through the mountains to explore and two natural springs on the property. Lot's of opportunity to play with my tractors. I have access to a yellow construction full size Cat track dozer, a Case 580K 4x4 backhoe, a ditch witch, and other farm and construction equipment. I just got a Kawasaki Brute Force 650 four wheeler to run around the farm.

12 pointsI made my weekly Wednesday walk thru of the outside auction items scanning for anything painted red. Seeing nothing of interest, I went inside to join the old timers meeting to tell some fishing and hunting lies. About 1/2 hour after the auction started, one of the guys said," aren't you going to buy the Wheel Horse hub caps"? I ran out just in time to buy these for $5. Guess I owe him a stick of deer bologna.

9 pointsBeen a busy day today. Have just serviced these so far today. Also putting in LED headlights in all of them. Gotta get my storm chasers ready for that white stuff also.

8 pointsWell here's a neat find. Back about 40+ years ago Trina's family bought an old farmhouse here in the rural Maine town of Otisfield. Her mom found this Ledger book back then and has held onto it since. Something in passing conversation stirred the memory of it's existence the other day so she brought it over to share with us. I took a few pictures of the front and back covers and nearby pages. There are probably 30 more pages between...

7 pointsI find it intriguing that companies like Sears, Montgomery Wards, & JC Penny built an empire with the mail order catalogue. Each of these companies went on to brick & mortar stores which flourished for a while then eventually were the demise of the company. Now catalogue buying in the form of the internet is all the rage again. Makes me wonder if the above companies would have been quicker to drop their stores and return to their roots of catalogue sales via the internet, we may be ordering from them instead of the jungle site.

7 pointsNo wonder you wear out faster than me. I would have went to Blue Box first! I had to get more self Etch primer. Local Blue Box showed 3 cans online. Went to Blue Box and they had 0. Checked Orange Box. They showed 2 cans. Drove 18 mi. to Orange Box and they had 6 cans. So much for electronic bar code reading inventory thingy's. Went to Waldo World to get pooch supplies. Checked the paint area and there was more paint sprayed on the shelving than there were cans for sale!

5 pointsSo I decided to build a show cruiser/ rat rod before heading to zagray and Steve Bo’s. started out as a raider 12 with electric lift, parted it out due to the engine being blown. converted it to the older style 1267 tins. pulley swapped it and added Vins little mikes old exhaust. This machine is getting a Honda for now but down the road I’d like to get a k361 18hp kohler.

5 pointsConsider calling A-to-Z for a solid used one along with the kit to rebuild it.

5 pointsWelded up a caution light / rear LED light tower for my 314-8. Just need to paint it and finish connecting the wires tomorrow and be good to go. Should definitely help snowblowing / plowing.

5 pointsMade my Wednesday stop at Wally World this AM looking for Gorilla Glue for brake shoe repair . Of course no glue , but they had a 5 gallon container of Purple Power for $24.96 . Don't think I will run out for a while. Then off to paint dept for find handle for raddle cans . Nothing. Stopped at blue box store only handle they had was $10.00 , would have paid $20.00 my fingers are worn out from working on Waldomobile , blue box also had plenty of glue.

5 pointsGlad you took the fabric off the ironing board before laying wet paint on it! You can bring the board to Iowa this winter for the Downhill Championships. @stevasaurus and I are gonna build us a 2 seater!

5 pointsHood is on and finally was able to mow the whole lawn for the first time with the 854 and RM-366. It does a good job and with the plastic flap on the back of the deck, the rear of the tractor is staying pretty clean. Some cuttings fly out the front on the sparser sections. Last week I realized the throttle pull wasn't holding at full operating revs. The black plastic handle was spinning on the shaft preventing the twist lock from full engaging. Drilled two small holes through the stem of the knob and the shaft and then super-glued cut-off finishing nails in the holes. Problem solved.

5 pointsInteresting topic. I'll throw a couple in here. I have a few sub-collections in my overall collection. This is my "accidental collection" Accidental because I never had any intention of owning any of the pewter colored GT series tractors... then in the matter of about 3 months managed to find and acquire three brothers from the 1984 line... GT-1100 with Ark loader (and K341 repower), GT-1600 with original Briggs twin GT-1800 with original Briggs twin, 48" deck and power-flow bagger the 1100 and 1800 are here to stay for a while, but the 1600 could be available if anyone is interested. and this is my "Non-deck mower collection" a CBR-32 mounted on an RJ-58 a LMR-301 mounted on a Suburban 400 a Bachtold Front Mounted Weed mower on the 633. The Bachtold is NOS, camed from a closed dealer in Iowa. It's scratched and dinged from being mounted on tractors for display, but has never been run) I've added a SMS-50 sickle bar to this too, but am still looking for mounting hardware to put it on my 953. And this would be my "Wheel Horse Farm PTO collection" PTO-66 belly mounted Farm PTO shown mounted on a 1968 Commando 6. 8-3211 Farm PTO shown mounted to a 1968 Raider 9 (which is currently repowered with a K181)

5 pointsBe careful - the Unidrive is cast iron and you need 2x thread size, so 3/4" engagement so as not to strip them out when applying the grunt pounds......

5 pointsMy son all of a sudden is paying attention to the weather. Wouldn’t have anything to do with his name being Ian, nahhh I’m thankful to live where I live. Pure Michigan baby! Good luck all you FLA peeps!

4 pointsI don't buy much from Lincoln because I have most of the parts I need already... But... I don't ever use his website. I use the old fashioned phone with voice method. It's a bit odd, I know... Lincoln is a good fella and VERY busy. Been times I've gotten things from him that weren't catalogued online yet.
-
4 pointsSeconded. If your tractor is of the rear tank variety it would be worth a thought to change over to electric.
-
4 pointsLucky, 1 to 2 inches up here people are still out riding their motorcycles haha . Seriously tho there is a guy in my town who rides his year round snow storm or downpour .
-
4 pointsI’m just @OldWorkHorse. I know you fellows need all you can get up nawth… Down these parts we are lucky to get 1-2 inches every couple of years. I have a dozer blade and a mid mount scraper blade. They may never touch snow…

4 pointsRemember that thing called COD? Paying the mail carrier for the goods a store shipped through them? Oh I miss those days, ordering skate boards galore from California and the store showed up at my door (and I waited the whole day of delivery to pay the man)

4 pointsMy round trip to Wally World and the blue box store is 2 1/2 miles . They are in the same shopping center along with $ store and auto zone Burger King , Fire House subs. Wednesday is my grocery store day so I was there any way . Funny thing is between Wally world and my house there are 5 grocery stores. Wished I lived out in the sticks. Fewer people and cars . Been using Purple power for a while , was going to stop at Advance to pick some up ( auto z and advance are on the same road ) since I had a $5.00 coupon. No work on Waldomobile today , I called in out on the project.

4 pointsIt's actually an hour from the big show and a half hour or so from @Ed Kennell I'm thinking of listing it in the classifieds. Maybe if I'm a good boy Ed can sell it for me

4 pointsBecause these bolts are known to loosen up, on my build I am going to red loctite alloy steel set screws into the transaxle and use center-lock distorted-thread grade 8 flange nuts.
-
4 pointsAt first, it would seem logical to simply increase the length of thread engagement by as much as required to overcome the limitations of engaging with a material of limited proof strength. In reality, however, only the first few threads of a threaded connection are actually involved in sharing the fastener clamping force. This is due to thread form error and slight differences in thread size and pitch that result in an inconsistent make-up between the male and female threads. A common rule-of-thumb is to provide a minimum length of thread engagement equal to the (major) diameter of the fastener. A more conservative rule-of-thumb is to use a thread engagement length of 1-1/2 times diameter.in general a course threaded screw grade 2 should be at least 1 dia threaded depth in cast iron. a grade 5 screw should be 1.5 dia depth and a grade 8 screw should be 2 dia threaded depth into cast iron. for screw strength to match cast iron.

4 pointsLooking at the torque spec for the 1-1/2" being up over 3500 ft lbs reminds me of an assembly job I did once - assisting to torque 24 bonnet studs with machined nuts on a prototype nuclear powerplant water valve. The studs were 3X taller than the height of the nut. It took 3 of us - two assemblers and a certified inspector two and a half DAYS to do this - the bonnet was assembled first with the nuts hand tight and then torqued to 50 ft lbs, then 100 by hand as the inspector verified the criss-crossed torque sequence. Then it was time for the big toys - a hydraulic device that attached to the stud above the nut and pressed on the bonnet surface with a shell that looked like an oxygen sensor cut socket - pressure was applied to stretch the stud, and you tightened the nut about one flat (1/6th of a turn), relax the pressure, remove the tool, onto the next stud. All this in 100 ft lb increments x 24 fasteners, up to the 4000 ft lb torque spec. That is why it took so long....
-
4 pointsYup, and for once, Kevin is absolutely correct regarding the thread engagement in cast iron...
-
4 pointsI do believe there is. That’s the machinery standard for cast iron threads… two times the diameter.
