I just got home after spending the day with Jay's brother Guy. We met at Jays early this AM and I took pictures and inventoried his collection of Wheel Horse tractors, implements, and parts. After I recover, I will list the collection in our classified for all members to see. Hopefully I can get it done this week. I have around 50 pics to load and add descriptions. Stay tuned. BTW, Guy said Jay did not want any formal service. Let's just keep him in our good memory file.

I was talking about this engine in another thread when I contemplated using it on my C-125. But... I took out the balance gears in the engine on the tractor and no more knock, so I don't need to do anything further... so now I have this 3600W generator in pieces. I figured why not 'clean it up' a little and keep it for a backup to my big generator. It was a real mess when I got it. No wheels, a bag of fertilizer had been stored on top of it, etc... Yes... that white plastic fuel pump is original 1980 vintage! I was very surprised to find white plastic under the red paint. That's where I'm at today... should be able to get the control box back on tomorrow... also the starter and solenoid... then fire it up! It didn't come with a fuel tank. Need to find something that will work. Also missing the 'top hat' for the air cleaner.

I took one of the grandsons to the Studebaker Museum for his birthday. I had yet to go to the museum since it moved to its new location in 2005. From everything I've heard I didn't expect to see any Wheel Horses on display anymore. We walked in as they opened and four guys from the Netherlands walked in right behind us. I got to chatting with them and mentioned the possibility of seeing them. They had never heard of them so I explained a bit and showed them a couple on my phone. The museum is three levels and we walked the mail level, went up stirs to the 2nd level then down stairs to the basement. Almost to the far end I spied them. A Suburban 551, a Pond lever steer, a 420 LSE and a 69 Work Horse 700. I no more then got to them when I heard the door open. It was the guys from the Netherlands. They showed an interest and apparently I went into full tour guide mode explaining what I knew about them. My grandson noticed and made comment about it as we had some lunch. It wasn't much of a display but at least it was something.

Not sure about the gentleman stuff Jim. But when Jay learned of his cancer, he told Guy, "when I pass, call Ed to dispose of my collection". So, I'm just fulfilling the request of an old friend.

This might not belong in the WH part of the forum, but it could be applied to numerous projects for a WH! If you are trying to transmit power from your Kohler, Briggs, Onan, Tecky, Wisconsin, or any other engine, to any point on your machine, attachments, etc… this simple video should blow your mind.

I never did trust those sheet-metal ramps. Glad you weren't under the trailer when she blew. Now if the ramp had been made by Wheel Horse, it would have been all 1/4" steel angle-iron.

One of the things I would consider with a new seat is how you mount the tractor. Do you step through or swing your leg over the seat. I tend to swing my leg over thus making a high back seat a problem.

That bag of fertilizer just may have been the ticket to having kept the mice away from the cotton jacketed wires.....

LoL - legal Lots of people collect those including non WH collectors but the bigger WH collectors should want one. I would like to have something of Jay's to keep. I don't need any more tractors but if there's some of the other stuff like Mike is asking about Count me in.

It is the small victories which should be celebrated. Even after a lifetime of removing broken bolts my heart still jumps a bit when the broken bolt breaks free…and not the EZ Out tap… IMG_9088.MOV

Could just Flintstone it? They stopped cars made of stones and logs with just there feet wheel horse should be nothing to stop.

Get some windshield urethane adhesive and a new caulk gun. Warm up the urethane. Wear old clothes and gloves. The lining will never come off again! The gun will probably get worn out. Maybe Trina will have to squeeze the trigger!

Thoughts were to Jack up the rear axle with purpose of servicing the front… then swap the ramps. Well I’ll swap that one to the scrap heap.

Here’s a few from today!

Seat looked filthy so I hit it up with some Meguiars Trim Conditioner ( for cars ). Now the seat is too slippery, especially trying to stay on the seat going down hill, or on the side of a hill. Any ideas what will take this stuff off? Oh yeah, it made the seat look great, but try staying in it safely. Thanks

After the boys and I went fishing this evening we ordered a pizza and hung out in the garage. Aiden bolted this seat frame on that has an ugly blue home made seat on it but he figured it was better than no seat at all. We plan on purchasing a seat for it just like the one I got for Alex’s Commando 8 this spring. We have plenty of other stuff to do to Aiden’s 1277 before it will Be running again. I need to find the dash I set aside for it, find where to buy throttle and choke cables (I had ordered some for Alex but can’t find the paper I wrote my info down on), I will probably re wire it and a few other parts have been scavenged for other tractors so I need to steal them Back. This thing ran pretty good but it smoked from the breather. pictured is Aiden, you have all met his younger brother Alex before.

I think I remember people mentioning E-6000 for that. I could be wrong though.

@Ed Kennell Make sure @Pullstart pays double for storage . Especially that ugly tractor that Jay stored for him at the BS. You are truly a gentleman who looks like for friends.

In systems we called that an "unrecoverable fault".

Here's a couple options. My favorite is the seat on the 76. The seat on the 05 is OK but I removed the arm rests. I liked them fine but for a while I had no choice but to mow on some pretty steep inclines. I wanted the ability to make a hasty exit if something would happen. The 76 seat is comfortable, reasonably priced and readily available. It's what will go on the 05 should I need a new one.

By the way... Duplicolor Engine Enamel in the "RED" color is almost a dead on match for Regal Red. In the photos above, the engine block is done in Duplicolor, the tins and the generator body are Regal Red. I can't see much if any difference...

You could pull them up the ramps with block and tackle too…. Every pulley cuts the load in half, right? A long enough rope and plenty of pulleys and an RC truck could pull a tractor up hill right?

Here is essentially what the finished product will look like. To cut and bend clean, you need good quality snips and a bender. I have both.

Don't know if I'll have Fred running for the parade, but if I do, I'll leave his face on.

The crew put in some good work today. All the 26 holes were backfilled. Floor leveled. Concrete forms mostly in place. (The forms stay forever). They also put up quite a few purlins between the poles. Me n a friend helped the 3 of them move the trusses across the yard so they're out of the way of the concrete trucks and also within reach of the crane. We should have concrete floor by Friday or Monday. Trusses up within 2 weeks. They're aiming for 11'-6" to 12' Interior ceiling height first floor. That's much higher than the 8 to 9 feet I thought we were getting and a VERY welcome surprise.

If it doesn't put out power. With the engine not running plug in an electric drill and turn it by hand to exite the generator. They loose that If it sets long enough, I had to do that to mine when it would put out power.

Perhaps that's the new "fold-for-storage" ramp set-up??

10-24 stainless button head screws, and silicone to seal out water. Ive had diamond plate rail covers on my pick up truck bed since I bought it new in 2006. Completely rust free.

Well what ever the 3 tractors up there weigh plus usually a couple small engines and there is a tombstone weight up there. And of course all my miscellaneous junk that I need to go threw. The 2x4 uprights have been ok so far. It’s lagged into the wall studs and each upright is blocked on all sides to help Prevent twisting and falling. I’ve been doing this set up for prob 6 years or more and have never had an issue.
