10 pointsWhile the boys up in the north east were iut partying we were hard at it at another show. Last for the season. No steam this year tho. Guess the club had a falling out with the steam engine guys. Nice turn out tho despite the crappy weather Saturday afternoon. Sunday was a washout. We left our campers there to avoid rutting up the campgrounds. Go back and get them when things dry up. A few of what I got but should have been taking pics when the sun was out. Between @Achto and I we had 14 horses ther. Case was the feature but oddly very few Case GTs ther One benefit of being retired is getting there days ahead of everyone, getting set up, peace and quiet and giving my liver a rest before things get going.

8 pointsSo this past weekend when most of the new england guys were in Maine I was in New Hampshire at one of my favorite gas engine shows when I came across this gem.
-
8 pointsHere are a few better pics. It ain't real pretty & I have no clue as to what I'm going to do with it yet, but it's mine now I guess. It's raining too hard for me to choose to stand out side & look it over real good.

8 pointsI too remember where I was and the feeling of dismay that such an attack could happen. I will spare you the details of the long day that followed at work but it is etched in my memory. The magnitude of this single coordinated attack on the United States of America makes it stand out but if we are not paying attention to the quantitative impact of the crime and injustice that is so pervasive throughout our cities we are experiencing another 9-11 attack every month, it is just spread out over the entire country. You need look no further than Venezuela to see what happens when a thriving entrepreneurial economy is overtaken by socialism. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Economy_of_Venezuela We have an election coming up in a few weeks. I hope everyone will get to know the candidates and choose wisely. Local school board members are the key to our future as a free society, get to know their views on a variety of subjects. Local justice officials are also a key component of protecting our freedom. Get to know their stance on dealing with crime. I better get off my now, thanks for indulging me. I won't tell you who to vote for but please vote for candidates that have strong core values, not just a good speech.

7 pointsHello All, so... those that know me know I have a weak spot for Briggs powered Wheel Horses... I seem to be the only guy that likes them and will sit proudly next to @Wild Bill in VA and his equally "disliked" Tecumseh stuff... I got the opportunity to pick up a C161 Twin Automatic and did, it will be cleaned up and will motivate me to clean up / get my C161 Twin 8 Speed going. I know there's some sort of story out there that the "new" twin didn't fit and WH had to come up with a fiberglass hood last minute etc, how much truth in this panic story is there and would these be considered any more rare than anything else. I'd like to know how many where made between '78 and '79. As of right now (09/12/22) I'd like to think I'll have them both up and running to bring to the "Big Show" next year, I don't have an RJ or Suburban 400 to add to the show tractor pile. Anybody got any interesting history etc on these units? Tony
-
7 pointsYep, another Horse is following me home. Guess I need to stop carrying sugar cubes in my pocket.
-
5 pointsPicked this up today with a spare 42" SD. Runs nice and tranny is good too. Giving it my touches and will sit nicely next to my 416H. I forgot how much I like the 8 speed uni drive. The original looking boot is still in good shape! It seems this sat around a lot but looks to have been taken care of. needs tlc maintenance, but it's a nice tractor and I'm pretty happy everything that matters to me works good. Little noise on a bearing on the RD deck and it needs a patch in 2 spots and a thorough cleaning/ greasing treatment (like slippery pete sez) Even came with an axle bracket.

4 pointsI got my first Wheel Horse, a 606, running nicely! Right on schedule, I found someone who discovered an old Raider 12 in a field out back behind their home. It doesn't have the patina, simplicity, or completeness of my 606, with it's little pull start 6 hp Tec, so it will definitely give me more to do before I can drive. All the tubes aired up, save for one. It was off the bead, and the tube was punctured. I was hoping that was what hobbled this horse. 12 hp K301 had pristine oil in it, a little low but still within spec. Has points condenser and electric start. Ignition wires need some checking over. Spark plug looks good, and it turns over freely by hand. I don't feel compression by hand, but maybe that is due to ACR? It was missing the air cleaner cover, and so the choke was sized (closed, thankfully.). Still haven't freed up the throttle though. Hoping it would start up, after refreshing all connections and contacts. But how can I start it without a key (safely?). Lastly, the unidrive has me scratching my head. I see the legends for high/low but there is no stick for it. Also the diagram on the shifter is not what I was expecting. The shifter does not want to go in gear, and when I opened the fill plug, only water came out. I did not see the drain plug like on my 5053. Maybe missing, I need to double check now that I think of it. Any how I suspect a rebuild is in order. So big questions/challenges are should I kerosene flush it, what unidrive is it, how can I start with no key, and any precautions to be aware of before trying to crank it up.

4 pointsI guess I did take a couple of pictures. The big kids getting ready to go for a ride in the barrel train. Up front is our favorite engineer @WHX?? who took us as far away from camp as possible and then promptly kicked us out so that some little kids could go for a ride. Maybe next time I'll wear a propeller hat so he doesn't notice that I'm a big kid hiding in the back of the train.

4 pointsThat was a 1978 model and the first black hood. That year they had a C-161 with a Kohler K-341 and it was the traditional square hood. They also had the C-161 Twin Automatic that was your black hood and my favorite black hood. I much prefer the traditional dash over the flat dash of later black hoods. It was the first C series with a twin and I believe they needed the added engine clearance.

4 pointsNice find! Bought a beautiful 314-8 for my son awhile back….it was so nice, I hated handing over the keys

3 pointsAfter years of looking, I finally found one for sale in Lawn and Garden Collector magazine. I had it shipped through Fastenall from Illinois. It’s an E-Z Rake dethatcher. They did make them to fit Wheel Horses, but this one was made for a Cub Cadet I believe. I adapted it and restored it. It works way better than I thought it would!
-
3 pointsI stole the Pto bell for another tractor, otherwise it is a complete tractor. This convo makes me want to dig it out and get it going, lol. Ive done 6 wheel horse revivals so far this year, maybe I can squeeze this one in. Im in the middle of a Kubota engine swap on a wheel horse frame now.

3 pointsOn the the list EB... Now for the Saturday night festivities... what a hoot!!! Dan playing the air shovel ... I don't know what it is about this but everyone seems to be inclined to dance with anything... me thinks it's traditional now... Our Simplicity bro having a good time
-
3 pointsThat was actually the highlight of the show for me! I loaded that C-120 I'm on knowing it ran like crap and figuring we got bored we'd finger out why. It coughed under load and anything more tha 1/4 throttle. Changed out the condenser ... nope. Dan then nailed it with a bad coil. We went on a coil & beverage ice run to Fleet Farm and of course the rack the coils were to be on was empty. Swung into a NAPA and 40 clams later we had a coil. Turns out Dan that wasn't a bad price where I usually get them is up to 37. Threw it on and runs like a top & nice to get seat time on it & show it some more love. Finger out why it only charges when it feels like it maybe a new drive belt and @ebinmaines check list.

3 pointsJust wanted to give a little update on the 800... someone asked me how it was doing... so I thought I would let everyone know. Still running strong. It gets used almost every day to go check the mail, get packages, etc. Pulls 9050 max RPM with 93 octane canned racing fuel and racegas concentrate. Engine is doing very well, changed the oil 3-4 times since build. No signs of wear. Anyway... it pulls very hard in 1st and second gear, will easily burn rubber or pull the front wheels off the ground in second gear. Third gear still opens my eyelids... but is very twitchy so third doesn't get used very often. I am very pleased with the Peerless transmission. It has held up very well with my testing... no signs of wearing out. Goes all the way into gear smoothly... no complaints at all. I have changed the transmission gear oil 2 times since the build. No metal flakes present. I NEVER grind gears... I take very good care of the transmission. I do not pull any weight with this tractor. I baby it, only use it for speed. It is used like an ATV... Belts wear very evenly, I haven't actually changed the belt since the build... still running the same one although I have 2 brand new ones sitting in the tool cabinet. Needle bearings in front wheels are doing very well, no signs of wear from them. They get greased every so often. I do torque the rear wheels and hubs quite often, just to make sure everything is Custom throttle pedal has not failed me... very good quality on the spoon throttle... I'm very pleased with it. I actually can't wait until we get some snow here so I can do some snow drifting with it!!! I will probably post a video of it running here in this thread at some point. Don

3 pointsI had one until recently… the new owner plans to pull with it. Of all black hoods, I might consider that one the best looking!

3 pointsWas that John Kerry, our government climate czar, at the throttle? Sure looked like him. His staff will be developing a position paper explaining the reason one coal fired Case tractor pulling a 50 bottom plow is more environmentally friendly than one electric battery powered tiller turning the same amount of land.

3 pointsJust an update if anyone is interested. I pulled the deck off and all the spindle bearings where nice and free but I stripped and cleaned them and regressed with the right grease anyway. I inspected all the pulleys and notice what I thought was minor wear but I decided to machine them all back to the correct angle. I am now running a B section belt so that will over kill it. I faced the PTO clutch as well. It cuts like a champion again. It took a little getting used to running it at 3600rpm but it’s a demon now. In general I think I’ve been a bit soft on it, not wanting to rev it hard, and I think I’ve been having the PTO engagement pressure too light. Thanks again to everyone who helped me out. The pics are of a couple of pulleys that had ware, I don’t really know what’s acceptable so I just cleaned them up anyway. One pick is after machining.

2 pointsDidn't the early Raiders have the 10-pinion diff in the 6-speed? If so- I'm not surprised the tranny has been swapped out. Someone likely busted the differential and simply swapped for a 3 speed. That is what happened with my 867 as well. Overall a nice save regardless!
-
2 pointsThe correct shift pattern should be the one on the sticker not the shift knob. The high low shifter could be missing or some one may have put a 3 speed tranny in it.
-
2 pointsI s'pose me n @JCM could teach yoooz some fun stuff too. Gotta make it happen someday....

2 pointsHere is one front thatcher I used last two years. I have another that uses the mounting brackets form JD 200 series. They are a bit heavier built too than a snapper. I will be using it this coming weekend this post reminded me I needed to dig it out of storage.
-
2 pointsHere’s a pic… you can zoom in to the dash… sides are different as well. They go down further to shield batteries and motor from water…

2 pointsSo today I visited the 'Neuhreder Oldtimer Kollegen und Umgebung' "Oldtimer treffen" or Oldtimer meeting. Besides tractors there are cars, motorcycles, trucks, fleamarket and live music performances. Also the event has what is called a 'quellacker' what translates to something like 'torture field'. People can take whatever vehicle they have and play around there. Plowing, tug-of-war, pulling trees or just riding around, everything goes Anyway, some pictures say more than 1000 words.
-
2 pointsI like the front thatcher in combination with a mulching blade. It pulls up the long blades of dead grass and then mulches them right away. Hasn't been used since early spring this year, since two months with no rain left most of the vegetation near death. On thing that surprised me on its first use was the extra power needed to drive it.

2 points@Wheel Horse 3D can make some great stuff, might be something he could do for you.
-
2 pointsThe beveled horizontal shaft gears can be switched from side to side - the "drive" sides are opposite - may buy you some time.... The spindle gears can be flipped over, if not already done - that too buys you some time....
-
2 pointsWell I was messing around with the 1054 I put the engine from the c125 on the frame and I need to do some fabrication. The base for the engine mount is wide and I kinda want to keep it isolated mounting. So lengthing the frame seems to be in the plans now. I set the c series hood on it and it doesn't look bad lol

2 points@Cee245 nice pick up on that ! aerosol lubricant spray down on all painted surfaces , let it sit for a day , rub it down with a clean soft cloth , bet that paint stage will pop right thru , with a lubricated shine . take advantage of what works and enhance it , especially electrical . replace that shift boot , when you drop the trans oil . might drop the carb bowl for debris , add a fuel filter . would personally love to detail the hell out of that , make every part of it . work like it should , would also lubrication wipe down down those engine tins , black / shinny . USE 303 VINYL CLEANER , on seat ,, trim pieces steering wheel . just saying what I would get after , good luck with it .pete
-
2 pointsThanks and since you put it that way. 😂. I don’t have the lights wired up yet and that’ll make me more visible on the street. I am going to add holders on the rear so I can add flags easy when I want. My current flag holder is a piece of 3/4” pex tubing zip tied to the hitch. Lol
-
2 pointsYes, the engine looks like it was replaced with a newer K series Kohler engine. If the cast steering wheel is original and the sheet metal undamaged don't worry about the engine. Any more pictures and is the paint original? Of course, an original engine on that model would have a greater value but the RJ series from 1955 to 1957 still hold premium value even if a few things have been changed. Wild Bill in Richmond VA

2 pointsI run a front thatcher on my horse works quite well. It still is not been repainted to the forum approved colors

2 pointsRaining today, so I am catching up on small odd jobs. One of them is posting a picture of the picnic table for the lake house that I've refinished this summer: It came with the house and had never had a finish applied to it. The boards had weathered to a silver/grey color. I ran the belt sander with 120 grit over them to take the fuzz off, and a nice grain pattern popped out. 4 coats of polyurethane spar varnish and Rustoleum semi gloss black spray bomb on the legs perked it up nicely.

2 pointsLike @Sparky said, I know exactly where I was when it happened. Just came home from school to my mom sitting in front of the TV. That was something she never did, TV was not turned on until after dinner most of the time. She asked me if I heard what happened, mind you this is before mobile phones were widespread, atleast among teenagers. So ofcourse I did not hear what had happened. The footage of the first crash was being broadcast and then we saw the second crash take place on pretty much live broadcast.. It's something so surreal that at first you get the idea your watching a movie. But then came the images of people leaping and the incredible dustclouds as the first tower collapsed which made it even more surreal. I'll never forget that. The world felt like it got one shade darker and more threatening that day, very eery feeling. Although i'm no American I think it's safe to say that everyone felt different after that day. Greetings from the Netherlands, Mark
-
2 pointsOne of my most emotional experiences . If at all possible, every American should visit this site. I was born and raised about 20 miles South of the crash site. Sadly, I wonder if some ever read about 9/11 or even the battles against Socialism, Communism and Dictatorships. I'm afraid American History is no longer a required subject or even permitted in our public schools.

2 pointsCould not help myself. Almond really pops on the rims. Just about ran out of daylight. And moved them inside just after sunset.

2 points@ebinmaine and BBT's 1045 on the trailer this week. Note the rare optional 4x4 pressure treated seat support--no extra charge.
