This important date, 9/11, should be in everyone's mind today. God rest the souls of all those lost on that fateful day in 2001.

So today I visited the 'Neuhreder Oldtimer Kollegen und Umgebung' "Oldtimer treffen" or Oldtimer meeting. Besides tractors there are cars, motorcycles, trucks, fleamarket and live music performances. Also the event has what is called a 'quellacker' what translates to something like 'torture field'. People can take whatever vehicle they have and play around there. Plowing, tug-of-war, pulling trees or just riding around, everything goes Anyway, some pictures say more than 1000 words.

The 2023 25th Annual Wheel Horse Show will be the largest Wheel Horse Show in history, now the annual show has always been the biggest single make and the largest of the garden tractor shows PERIOD! We are even bigger than a lot of the big boy tractor makes with their shows. We have surpassed the 1,000-tractor mark several times over the years but the 2023 25th will be ..... well I'm hoping to see RJ-58's lined up all the way down to the center of Gettysburg! Flags from the different states and county's sure would show a lot of pride during the parade. And ya'll gotta' study up on the RJ-58 cause ya' never know when I might jus' have the microphone in my hand and ask you a question. My mind is already working on the 25th Annual Wheel Horse Show in 2023! Wild Bill in Richmond VA

Picked this up today with a spare 42" SD. Runs nice and tranny is good too. Giving it my touches and will sit nicely next to my 416H. I forgot how much I like the 8 speed uni drive. The original looking boot is still in good shape! It seems this sat around a lot but looks to have been taken care of. needs tlc maintenance, but it's a nice tractor and I'm pretty happy everything that matters to me works good. Little noise on a bearing on the RD deck and it needs a patch in 2 spots and a thorough cleaning/ greasing treatment (like slippery pete sez) Even came with an axle bracket.

The airbrush really saved this rainy day in regards to what I had planned to get done with the tractor. Was able to paint the frame, trans, splindles, and hubs inside without having to set up as spray booth, or tarps for overspray, etc… Took a while to paint the larger parts, but really was able to get into the nooks and crannies of the parts easily. I’ll definitely be using this thing more, even when painting with the full size paint gun to get into those hard to reach areas.

Like @Sparky said, I know exactly where I was when it happened. Just came home from school to my mom sitting in front of the TV. That was something she never did, TV was not turned on until after dinner most of the time. She asked me if I heard what happened, mind you this is before mobile phones were widespread, atleast among teenagers. So ofcourse I did not hear what had happened. The footage of the first crash was being broadcast and then we saw the second crash take place on pretty much live broadcast.. It's something so surreal that at first you get the idea your watching a movie. But then came the images of people leaping and the incredible dustclouds as the first tower collapsed which made it even more surreal. I'll never forget that. The world felt like it got one shade darker and more threatening that day, very eery feeling. Although i'm no American I think it's safe to say that everyone felt different after that day. Greetings from the Netherlands, Mark

Since I do not have a flagpole this is the best I could do for today. Also lowered the flag to half staff at my firehouse this morning. It honestly brought tears to my eyes as I thought about all those innocent people that died on this day as the flag slowly came down. May God bless America 🇺🇸

Couple more passes around the border and this will be looking good.

Raining today, so I am catching up on small odd jobs. One of them is posting a picture of the picnic table for the lake house that I've refinished this summer: It came with the house and had never had a finish applied to it. The boards had weathered to a silver/grey color. I ran the belt sander with 120 grit over them to take the fuzz off, and a nice grain pattern popped out. 4 coats of polyurethane spar varnish and Rustoleum semi gloss black spray bomb on the legs perked it up nicely.

“Where the Stars and Stripes, and the Eagle fly!” There’s a Lady in the Harbor who stands for what we believe…. There’s a bell that still echos the price that it cost to be free… Aaron Tippin said it, Toby Keith said it, Bush said it, and so many before. Bob, I did not notice the date until you mentioned it, but I’ve had a thought in my mind for the soldier family I’ve been mowing for. Lance Corporal Mitch and his wife Sam gave me this veteran owned company’s coffee and I just opened it for a fresh cup and a sit down on RedSquare. Remember the great loss on that day, and the loves lost for our freedom before and since. Thank you soldiers and servicemen and women for your thankless work!

For young folks it’s something they have read about…but this one is fresh enough that many of us will never forget where we were or what we were doing when it happened. Like many of you I watched it unfold live on TV in utter shock. I was thousands of miles away from home and had no way to get back to my wife and kids in Connecticut, which as you know is only a couple hours drive to NYC. I’ll never forget what happened and what was lost on that life changing day.

OK let's go back to old math. Back in the early 1960's Wheel Horse had the Suburban series, which were the models 400, 550, 401, 551 and model 701, now with these models you could get a 4-wheeled wagon of which the loaded capacity was 1,000 pounds. Now I can imagine a scary ride with a Suburban 400 going downhill with a 1,000-pound payload. The 1961 Model 701 you could get a front-end loader as an attachment, now this type of attachment requires a few add on's such as rear wheel weights to counterbalance a load. Now factor in the weight of the loader assembly, weight of the operator, plus the load in the bucket and the net weight of the Model 701 now you're talking close to 1,500 pounds. So, 650 pounds is a piece of cake for a Wheel Horse. Wild Bill in Richmond VA

Could not help myself. Almond really pops on the rims. Just about ran out of daylight. And moved them inside just after sunset.

Sorry for the bad pics. Will get better ones tomorrow in the sun. Rescued 754 that was not on Billy Orrs list. Excited to get going in it. The tractor will remain units original clothes. No restore or repaint for this one. Was left outside because it has a broke rod. There is another engine here in my garage that will look perfect on it and runs until the original is rebuilt

To sit outdoors and further deteriorate? Why not see if you can sell it to someone who will do something with it?

Decided to try an air brush to touch up the rims where my hanging supports were. Worked very well, highly recommended getting one for such work. Almost no overspray, barely any fumes, and did a great job. Think I might even use it to paint all the little brackets, and pulleys and such.

They’re coming. This is roughly the idea. The tool tray will mount on top of the trans and support the fenders.

I was ready the moment this year's show closed. Planning for the next show began as my canopy came down on Saturday. Bill, I like the idea of flying your state/country flag on your "parade/cruising" tractor.

After about 100hr on this one. I am done. This is my third 1257 I have had and have. I hate to paint these, but the P/O did the outside only It had three shades of red, so that is why I redid the paint. I hope you enjoy the picks.

It all depends on the terrain. It’ll pull it. Can it stop it? Flat ground? Probably no problem. My commando 6 is essentially the same machine. It could use more front weight!

It is a part of our distant past. For a healthy person being a critic of our own work helps us to see what needs improvement. The challenge is to be able to use that information to perform the needed improvement.

Is this of any use to you? I bought the tractor at a charity type auction in WI. @WHX?? and @Achto saw me drive it around. It was quite a powerful bugger once I threw my battery in it!

    Cat

Yes I will build him a house with a heat pad. There is no wifi in the garage, so I don’t have to worry about that.

File the burrs off the end of the shafts to get pulleys and hubs off. If you get it running, do not drive it in your lawn with the diesel. If the seals are leaking you will leave a dead trail in your grass. It is better to jack it off the wheels and run to clean out the trans.

    Cat

Well the cat has pretty much settled in to my garage. He is scared to death to go outside. He starts shaking and growling and hissing at anything he sees. I guess he will live in the garage for now. I will have to get a cage to put him in when I open the big door to get the tractor and stuff out.

One of my most emotional experiences . If at all possible, every American should visit this site. I was born and raised about 20 miles South of the crash site. Sadly, I wonder if some ever read about 9/11 or even the battles against Socialism, Communism and Dictatorships. I'm afraid American History is no longer a required subject or even permitted in our public schools.

Fix that pulley and it will probably drive.

It would be a shame to scrap, as they are getting hard to find. I would like to pick one up to restore but ideally closer to home.

WHX, I agree with you on the 1257 100% As for J bolts, I had one like this years ago. It is just for looks. It just adds a little extra in that area.

Thanks Don. Most people only see Red. I had the time to do it that way before the fall and winter sets in.

The top to bottom and side to side play means your axle bearing are worn. Worn bearings cause the seal to bear. The tractor saw a lot of movement on the trailer and that movement at the axles caused it to leak. You also mention the gears feeling like their not meshing right. It sounds like it’s time to go through that transmission. Before you pull it drain the gear lube and fill it with diesel. Then drive it around shifting into all gears. Then drain diesel while warm. This cleans out the transmission some making it a little easier when you pull/disassemble it.

The ground here in NC where I am is clay/sand and gets cement-like but the moles can still tunnel through it I think they're after the cicadas.
