Other than tractors, I do have other Interests. Antiques. Mrs. M and I used to sell antiques at a local, but now defunct antique mall. My specialty was Hoosier cabinets and cameras. However, here lately we have been collecting Roseville pottery, washboards and old kitchen items. Something that I didn't know existed until about a year ago was a giveaway that was packed inside of Kellogg's cereal boxes in 1937. These 13" wooden mixing spoons are fairly rare around here, but I have lucked into finding these nice ones over the last year. Washboards, which were a common item in homes in the 19th century, now sell in antique shops for anywhere between $15.00 and $150.00. Some being more rare than others. I recently found this one for $18.00 After a complete disassembly and cleaning, this is the result. One identical to this recently sold on eBay for $108 00. I'm holding on to this one.

After about 100hr on this one. I am done. This is my third 1257 I have had and have. I hate to paint these, but the P/O did the outside only It had three shades of red, so that is why I redid the paint. I hope you enjoy the picks.

Each Horse in my herd has assigned duties. For several years my go to snow plow tractor was a Charger 12 with a 48" blade, chains and weights. She always did a good job. Last year I put on a 54" blade and some more weight. Not much snow last year but one snow was wet and heavy. The bigger blade really stressed her actually dragged down the engine pushing up hill. Usually with a plow traction is the first slippage but with weights and the LSD in a Charger that wasn't the weak point..we needed more power. So taking advantage the recent rainy days I did some swapping around and made a Charger 16 the new main snow plow tractor. Had to swap tires, weights, hood (for the headlights..odd since in 20 +years I have plowed in the dark twice...) and the plow frame ( as i have centering pin set up) . (next time i may just swap the engine The 70 lbs wheel weights are pita to mount.) She now has 16hp 54" blade and 320lbs of added weights..(took a scale out to weigh things.) . Hope she works out. The charger 12 will get the 42 ' blade with plastic edge and rubber chains to do a short stretch of pavers. Backup is an Charger 16 with the blower but she has seen very limited use the last few years...

Like a lot of other places in the country we've had some pretty serious challenges getting materials. There's also the issue of employment. The building industry as a whole and also transportation are experiencing major shortages in workers both skilled and unskilled. As of a couple days ago when I talked to the builder last, he's hoping to start digging post holes somewhere around September 20th, 25th. With a full crew he could put up a building like mine in about 6 weeks. He's been running around 8 weeks on average. So if he gets started by October 1st then he would be pretty well finished up by December 1st. We can get Frost here anytime after Labor day. Recordable snow is relatively rare in October and November but does happen. We should have most of the winter in the new building.... If not all of it.

No comment on this picture other than to say it looks like it cuts good, but I worry about the tire ruts left behind.

Bought these today, they say HM on them which stands for . But upside down they say WH, & we all know what that stands for... I'll just park so they are upside down every time.

Got some primer on the frame, rims, and related parts. Before I started, my elderly neighbor asked what I was up to. Showed her around the project and got to talking about a lawn sweeper I want to find. Turns out she has one, and an old riding mower that belonged to her father that she wants to get rid of. Both mine for the taking when I have space. Wish I had more stuff to hang parts from to paint. Gonna be a multi day process for each step. (Prime and paint) Still got a bunch of parts ready for primer. The device the rims are on was purpose built for spraying cabinet doors from when I remodeled the kitchen. Back when lumber was still cheap

But I did some damage to my foot, so I'll be out of commission for a week or so. But that'll give me time to make the design changes for the wheel hold down. My condolences to all British people. There perhaps has never been nor will be again a public figure who have conducted themselves with such dignity , grace, and having the utmost loyalty and respect for their people. Such is evidenced by the admiration of virtually the entire world. Regardless of politics or political system beliefs a true loss of a great example of noble conduct.

Also while I was sitting around, decided to breath life into the headlight fixture that @Burnerman graciously sent me. I’ll get me some 1156 led bulbs and should have really nice headlights for plowing.

It's better to burn out than fade away. It would be a shame to see new plastic unreliable Wheel Horse tractors made in China. I've fished all my life. I used to frequent a fishing forum and posted some pictures of me cleaning some mahi on the counter. They were over the top with doing such a thing in the kitchen I was like, it's food dudes, and the kitchen is the workshop of the house. They clearly had no idea what kind of things I had done in there

Wasn’t able to save much anything skin and main support wise.. now time to drill holes the blast and paint, I tried to keep it as close to original as I could but I may have put more welds on it lol

I've been taking stock of interchangeable parts, and I think I'll keep the 520. Parts that can't be utilized will be for sale to other folks on here. I would re-power the 520 but I haven't been able to find an engine at a price that would make it worthwhile. Now I just need to find someone that needs a very good condition 60" mower deck. On another note. What a difference those solid mounts make! I used both of my 161s today, and the one that still has the old rubber mounts shakes like crazy in comparison to the solid mounts. If anyone is sitting on the fence, it's worth the conversion.

Yes, plug the unused line. You don't want anything sucked into your crankcase. I like my filters close to the carb.

How well does that bead breaker work on the the really old ones?

Don't know anything about hydro's. If it burns up belts that would indicate something is jammed. Could be something simple but still a bit of a gamble. Depends on the price if I would take the gamble or not..

I too purchased the HF tire changers, both of them. It's one of those thigs that's always in the way until you need it...... then its tough to use unless bolted down to something. I mounted both of the tire changers to a 6' long piece of 2" x 1/4" square tube. Then when its time to change tires (I tend to wait until I have a few to do), I slide the tube into the receiver of my trailer hitch on my little Dodge Dakota. It is just the rite height to work comfortably, without leaning over too far, et high enough to get at anything I need to. I left it long enough to be able to lower my tailgate to keep all the tire tools, tubes, stems, sealer nearby. Works great. And I agree about the mounting, spider and fake lug post..... very inadequate. I'll be making modifications to them when I get back to work. I'll post some pix when I get them all sorted out.

We share your interest in antiques also Bob. Our whole house is really a bit of a living museum both i and my wife enjoying the old ways. Many of them are items passed on to us from family. Of particular interest also are old items related to both our professions which we avidly gather. Not only we enjoy it but guests are always eager to see everything. A comment made recently was “ there is always something to discover on your place”.

Those 2 choke screws are different colors, me thinks someone has tinkered with that carb before you EB. Maybe the choke plate is upside down or even the wrong one. Seems like I’ve seen where the choke plate has a notch out for that little nubbie.

Cleaned the carburetor and installed new coil and condenser. It fired on starting fluid. Need more minor items fixed and should be ready to run

I've always thought that if I was granted a wish to meet anyone in the whole world it would have been her. I'm out in the garage now comforting the Lotus & the MG, she was a class act all the way around & will be sorely missed here.

Move the table out of the kitchen. Not a kitchen table anymore. Now it's a mobile workbench. Problem solved.

We dump/slide building materials on a very regular basis over here. Rarely harms anything. There is more and more movement toward using small loader cranes, wallboard (overhead pin) cranes, and demountable forklifts. I've delivered a good many sets of these type trusses with a crane over the years. It's EXTREMELY time consuming because the insurance industry and legalese has super over regulated everything we do. These trusses are made to order per building spec. There is no return. If on the odd chance one was broken it would have to be remade or repaired onsite.

I have a 1967 REO Lawn Skiff that I took all apart in the spring of 2021. My intention was to clean it, paint it, get the engine running, and have it all assembled in time for the 2021 WHCC show. Well that didn't happen and 19 months have passed since I took it apart. Now I don't think that I can remember how it all fits back together. Sort of my own version of Humpty Dumpty. Before: After:

I have them on my 3 D's, wouldnt do with out the lectrics!! One of the best add ons you can do. On my D's I pull the flat panel just in front of the seat (4 bolts) and on the left side of the frame there shud be a hole there already, I mount mine there with a filter down line from there. Puts it slightly below the tank and out of the way. And, yeah, plug the hole into the block and discard the pulse pump -- I hate those dang things!!

Perhaps the brass choke flap needs to be taken out and reinstalled with the flap “above” the nub … maybe the choke flap won’t open as far, but the engine should get enough air… and it would close all the way.

When I built my house in 1975 the framing lumber and plywood was in one large bundle. The truck was just a standard flat bed, no tilt, no rollers. The driver simply backed up fast and slammed on the brakes then pulled forward, it was ugly to watch but no real damage.

Getting harder to twist around to back up and hook up. Never did master 4 wheel. I have several horses with front hitch provisions...

Thank you the metal shop I brought it to has celebrated 100 years of business this year and the family is awesome I worked for them for a short amount of time in the past. The shop has built long island stump jumpers out of 2.5 and 5 tons too
