Pulled the frame out from under what I believe is a 310-8 to hopefully re-purpose in a c-160 with a broken one. Not sure if it will work, definitely have to engineer a couple things...

I’m progressing on the repower of the 314, I made a mounting plate from a scrap of aluminum I had laying around. It looks like the cub cadet onan engine will fit nicely. I need to make a plate for the thrust bearing and PTO linkage

I bathed the 1045 with the big can of WD-40 and wiped it down today. Looks pretty good but might give it another can. Located a proper seat. Starting to feel like an orphanage or something. I go pick up a 753 pretty soon. Another Michigan tractor staying in Michigan. Pure Michigan baby!

Since the scrapyard was a bust for now I got my son to help me patch the deck. We were trying to fab a piece to fill in when my son pointed at the trashed sd deck next to my garage and said why not cut it outta that? I had given up on the deck because of the butcher welds and rotten pulleys. The spot we needed was actually the only real good part. Oh! I painted the patch with Rustoleum sunrise red. I’ve found it fades to match the factory paint on most of my tractors.

I picked up this 953 yesterday. It came with a snow plow but was missing the right rear wheel. The PO states he was plowing his garden about 10 years ago when the wheel rusted through from the calcium and fell apart. I have no reason to doubt him because it was still setting at the end of his garden. So, I found this old table top in my lumber pile, drilled a few holes and made a spare wheel. I was able to drag it on the trailer, but the differential was locked. The good left wheel turned OK, but the wooden wheel was turning the opposite direction and sliding. After I got it home, I pulled both wheels and the belt guards off to check the brake and input pulleys to be sure they were free. They were OK. Checked the fluid in the tranny and found about a 1/2 " of a tar like goo. Just enough to glue the gears together and prevent it from rolling. By locking one axle and with a bar, I was able to break the gears loose and get the wheels to turn properly and check that the shifter and all gears were working properly. So my plan was to pull the seat pan so I could pull a bolt on top and fill the tranny with diesel and get it flushed and freed up to roll it off the trailer. Now comes the question....It appears the fenders, seat pan, side plates and gas tank are all one welded assembly. Does this mean everything must be remover including the clutch and brake assemlys and the hydraulic lift pump just to get the seat pan off? I may have to add this to my list of Wheel Horse engineering goofs along with the rubber mounted engines and mounting fuel tanks below the fuel pumps. Thoughts on cutting a section out of the seat pan to remove the fuel tank, then bolt it back on. Oh, @19richie66 and @ebinmaine have officially dubbed this one "FRED".

Me, Trina and her mom got an impressive amount of work done today. Here's another part progress pic. All that brush is off the far edge of the drive basically straight past the hood of my little white Kia. Here's where we stopped for today. That wall o' wood 🪵🪵🪵🪵🪵 Is ALL from today's stacking. Trina and her mom moved some existing piles and stacked 99% of that whole thing. All next year's firewood.

Well today was the 'big day'. First outing with my project at the local harvest-show. It took a lot of late nights but she runs and drives! We had great weather and a great day. Now i'm feet up on the couch, tired but satisfied. This was last night at about 22:45, still lots left to install. All loaded up this morning at 08:00 Parked at the show. Together with some small(er) friends.

Perhaps this is an option... OSHA approval pending...

I’ll gladly tell you how I trim my hedge. A friend of mine has a landscaping business and he does it!! 😂 I have a snowplowing and sanding business so we trade services. This reminds me that it’s overdue for a trim!! Thanks for asking!

Lawn day. Decided to remount the E141 mower deck and try it out. Wow! I like…! Quiet, quick, nice cut… 1/2 hour run time with deck and no issues with batteries… (3 - 12 volt batteries). I’m thinking another 15-30 minutes easy… I had deck listed for sale but nope. Gonna keep it. Although I must say, I like side discharge better… cleaner machine, better clipping dispersal…

Nice find, looks better than one 953 you had on that trailer. got to love that wooden wheel, cold be the latest trend in tractor design! You are spot on when it comes to a design goof. The transmission needs to be removed to do anything with it or to remove the gas tank. The pump can stay but the pivot end of the hydraulic lift cylinder makes it a tight squeezer to remove one of the transmission bolts but it is basically four 3/8" bolts, lower belt guide, fuel line and brake rod and you are off to the races. Have to tilt it forward as it is being removed to clear the shift lever.

Here is my B-80 that me and @TonyToro mostly finished building today for the pull tomorrow it’s a kohler CH20 that’s got some work done. We’re guessing it has about 60hp?? (And if you hear a weird noise like something rubbing or something it is a head gasket leak.) IMG_0606.MOV

I really like the 42" RDs for their cut and maneuverability for medium-sized lawns. Several of us have hung a 3-4" flap on the rear edge of the 42 RD, trimmed to miss the rear wheels, of course. I used cove base from the HD. It really settles the discharge down nicely and keeps the rear of the machine a lot tidier.

I put the wheels back. With the transmission freed up, she rolled of the trailer with ease. After raising her up I could get the bolt out that clamped the rear lift cable. I was able to pump the tranny full of diesel thru that hole. No need to remove the tranny or seat pan. The right axle seal and the input pully seals are leaking. Looks like the dreaded hub removal is next.

If the parts pile pictured above is the supposed 310-8 I'd say that's... Not a 310. Looks like a mid 70s B or C. The ID tag is circled in blue. Unless maybe that's the parts of the C160 setting on that pallet. ...?

OK, I didn't even consider that. Guess I bolt the wheels back on, drag it in the shop, and pull the transmission. But that one had 4 wheels Richard. Should I bring this one to the 2023 show for you?

I finally fixed a small failure from 3 months ago so I celebrated with Photo Friday.

I would start over and make a new harness. When i make one, I add multiple ground wires, designate a common ground on the tractor, near the battery, there should be one already there on the right hand side that connect to the battery. I run an extra cable from there directly to the engine block. Then from your common ground again a smaller gauge wire to the starter solenoid. Then another to the body of the voltage regulator. Never have had a problem.

I'm with Jeff. If you start "acting your age" you're going to get old quicker so then you'll be acting like a 90 year old lady a lot sooner! Hope you feel better!

I agree with Rob. Buy the nice lady her own ride. My Trina's really a VERY unusual personality for a female girl woman. It's legitimately possible she likes workin' with tractors more than me. She owns 3 of her own. She's done 3 full restorations too. (2 hers, 1 mine) Holds true here too so that doesn't hurt. 🤪

Well you could always say it’s a litmus test on how much she loves you. Then tell her she could buy a few too and we (you two) can enjoy them together. 😜😉 I try not to involve my wife on such decisions. The less she know the better for all of us. She’s not stupid but not worth the battle to her. Bills are paid. Kid’s taken care of and she makes more than me so that might have a little to do with her understanding of the situation too. 😂

I replaced the steering wheel / fan gear mount on my Wheel Horse SK-486 today. The old mount had wallowed out horizontally over time creating slack in the steering wheel. The new mount cuts out about two inches of left-right play. I would never have guessed that little bit of wear would account for so much play!

I was gonna ask if Dave was taking lessons from you, but I figured you would be along shortly all on your own!

Been there done that with cracked ribs, and they do hurt all different places. Worst is, when you do get to sleep, getting up out of bed! Take it easy for a while and you will be back chasing the dog around soon!

Yeah, run the engine at around 1500/2000 rpm (fast idle?) Course if you use the multimeter at the battery and it shows 13-14 DC then that also will tell you the rectifier is good. If you have that, then ..... well you'll have to revert back to all the stuff the guys have been describing.... Dont have a multimeter? then for sure GET one, HF has a small one for around $10, you really cant do much with wiring without one.
