18 pointsI want to improve on the Wheel Horse steering design, so a 90 degree gearbox takes the place of the original steering pinion and sector gears.
-
12 pointsIn July, 2021 I meet Achto at the show in Portage, WI and we talked about lowered Rat/Hot Rod Wheel Horse tractors which spurred my interest. Two weeks later a 633 was purchased and this project started. After 9 months of design, engineering and solid modeling, the fabrication started. The first part to be fabricated is a custom 4-1/2" drop front axle based on the 520H swept forward axle with 1" spindles. The custom drop axle eliminates the camber issues when turning a stock axle upside down.

9 pointsThe tractor is going to be powered with a Kohler Command engine, which is longer than the original engine, and to eliminate the LH tire turned left to blower housing interference a custom longer frame has to be fabricated.
-
6 pointsThe Onan should be run at wide open throttle (3600) for proper engine cooling and mower efficiency.
-
6 points@TonyToro Jr. and I worked on the B-80 for a few hours today. This pulling tractor is getting really close to completion. Tomorrow will be adding the aluminum rims with new tires, add a weight bar and get a final tune on it.

4 pointsI was going to stay out of this one at first but I couldn't agree more. Save anything good and find a replacement. That one has been messed with far too much.
-
3 pointsHope i can get it back 100% but i picked up an 05 Simplicity Legacy XL with a 60" deck. Power Steering, Shaf driven K92 tuff torq rear, 27hp Kohler Command, 60" shaft drive deck. Starts and runs but something is broken between the Steering wheel and power steering valve..probably the tilt wheel assembly. But i only gave 300 for it so im happy as a lark.
-
3 pointsI finally fixed a small failure from 3 months ago so I celebrated with Photo Friday.
-
3 pointsI would start over and make a new harness. When i make one, I add multiple ground wires, designate a common ground on the tractor, near the battery, there should be one already there on the right hand side that connect to the battery. I run an extra cable from there directly to the engine block. Then from your common ground again a smaller gauge wire to the starter solenoid. Then another to the body of the voltage regulator. Never have had a problem.
-
3 pointsGet a proper schematic, remove all the needless connections, get a good wire loom, and clean it all up. Messy wiring just makes it that much more difficult to troubleshoot problems.
-
3 pointsWhen we see that at work, we figure the tech has stock in Ideal, so for every wire nut or connector used, they get a little back.

3 pointsI'm with Jeff. If you start "acting your age" you're going to get old quicker so then you'll be acting like a 90 year old lady a lot sooner! Hope you feel better!

3 pointsI have leased land in Md and Pa and WVa. for whitetail hunting. The lands were not managed and were producing 120-130" bucks for me. I have taken my best deer 140-150" right here at home on private farms that are open to public hunting. I know there are better deer on all these lands, but I only bow hunt and have a hard time passing a 120" deer. I have taken some nice mulies in eastern Mt. on a 27 section (27 sq.mi.) ranch that was open to the public. These were gun hunts.

3 pointsMounted up the other Hoosier today… It’s easy to see it was on the left side of a race car with all the pink paint on it!
-
3 pointsI made a deal on a distant cousin twice removed. Be picking it up tomorrow morning. 1961 International Cub Cadet - I know its not a WH - but I always wanted one, and its worth more as is then Im paying for it. Has a mowing deck. It dont run, but I’ll fix that one way or another once Im done with my B80 resto. bonus garden trailer included.

3 pointsYou want to check that you blades are on right, wouldn't be the first time they were put on backwards. Run that thing wide open like others have said, you can do more damage too the Hydro and the Motor, it's designed too run and work at 3600. RPM. They are hard working industrial motors, clean oil, gas, and Air filter no worries.
-
3 pointsBe sure that the belt is on the inner grove of the PTO, the PTO clutch is firmly engaged and rev the thing up to 3600 RPM. I have always mowed this way and it is in your owners manual. Slow turning blades actually increase the torque on the belt and leads to PTO clutch slippage. Improperly sharpened blades can add to the problem. You are NOT doing the engine a favor by running it too slow.
-
3 pointsIn addition to checking the PTO pulleys for wear as John suggested, I would look closely at the deck pulleys and the deck belt tensioner system. Make sure the tensioner slide bar is free and the spring is strong. You should also have the spring loaded mule drive. Make sure the spring is strong. The clogging you describe may be due to one or both of the outside blades slowing while the center blade continues to spin at proper speed. 1800 RPM for mowing is not healthy for the Onan's cooling and lubrication. I run mine at 3200 only because it sounds better than 3600.

3 pointsOf the 2 520s I've had, the pulley groove on the PTO was worn to the point the belt would slip on both of them. Those big 60" decks take quite a bit of torque to power them so the belt can slip and it wears the pulley. If the belt slips long enough it will wear the pulley groove until the belt bottoms out. Take a closer look at the pulley groove. It's not easy to see. Try changing the belt to the other groove and test run it in the grass. It took me a few runs with a 2 stage snow blower and checking through everything else to finally figure out that worn groove was the problem. If that PTO bell is getting extremely hot that's an indication the belt is slipping.
-
3 pointsUp here we need to be ready for snow/ice from Dec 1st or even earlier. We leave the plows on for several months. We keep the levers tightened up with the bolt. I use a grade 8 bolt with a nyloc nut. Not the quick and easy method but the pins and levers sure don't move.

2 pointsLooks good ! I remember you posting pics of that front axle a while back. Is there any gear reduction ratio for that gearbox? I think the original fan gear steering is about 12:1 reduction for approximately 3 turns of the steering wheel lock to lock.
-
2 pointsToo bad it was left to rust away like that. As Don said the rest of the drive system is not shown and what is there will need some TLC before it could be used.
-
2 pointsThis’ll be my first out of state hunt, this November we are heading to MO for a gun hunt. Mark Pierce is the land manager. He has a pretty stout buck growth record, having a deer farm in FL with the #1 breeder buck in the nation or world at one point. Now he manages private unfenced land in MO with a minimum of 150”. these are some of his pictures as of recent.

2 points@Heatingman when I typically go after any problem , I break it down for ENTIRE INTENDED FUNCTION , that view , makes me VERIFY EVERY PART of iTS SET UP DESIGN . just start tweaking on sloppy / rusty areas , how about a washer or 2 with some lubricant to enhance its function ? how about a light spring pull on throttle / choke cable to lever connection ? that entire mower deck drive set up , needed help , once I found the common culprit , wrong / minimal lubrication , leverage design / set up , cables that need pull assist / mounting areas. was actually not that difficult to make a sled drag , turn into a smooth easy working starting point of use , what a concept ! realise this is totally off the chart for many , you can't do that , also regularly use my 40 + year c85 as a test bed for ideas . work out the bugs , and install it on the other 2 horses . why not ? stayin crazy , pete

2 pointsSophie my German shepherd loves her Wheel Horse tractors. When she hears a horse fire up, she comes running, she will follow me around the yard while I mow but she knows not to get too close. Daddy's little girl ❤❤❤

2 pointsI figured out that the daytime picture, the funky looking tine is a picture spoof. It’s the front fork in the background and the G1 in the foreground. I thought it was a squiggly G1! I think I’ve got some big time shooters out there this year, and a spike for @WHX?? to chew on too!

2 pointsWith the amount of damage to other gears and components in there I would be looking for a complete trans axle. Scavenge the parts you need and and offer the other parts like side plates and axles for sale. What do you think @stevasaurus?
