Anyone ever heard of this? Mrs. P. signed me up a while back and I got these stickers, but never knew why. Today, Mrs. P. got a call, there is a family about 30 minutes away, she’s disabled and he is deployed through the end of next summer. He’s a prior Marine, now National Guard. They’ll be receiving from us, pro-Bono lawn care until he returns. That likely means I’ll be mowing my own lawn more often, if I’ll be blocking out time to do other’s out of the goodness of my heart

Picked up a 314H yesterday dirt cheap as it wouldn't start. Came with deck also. Replaced ignition, voltage regulator, repaired 3 broken wires, oil change. Cleaned it all up. 22 original hours on the clock. Owners were from overseas and visited their summer home for a month each year.

This is exactly how I built mine. Flipped the frame over, cut out the middle, and added another frame underneath. Built a cross shaft clutch right behind the engine. Flipped the axle over and mover the tie rods to the front.

Landed a pretty good deal on some Ag tires and rims for my B80 Im semi-restoring. Got the set for $100 rims and tires. tires look to have never seen use. Sure beats about around 100 each for new tires only. now I gotta find some fronts.

Well I believe it's a 953 sticker worn off the engine cover and the serial plate is buried is crap and rust... she's a little ruff and hurt. Gear shifter is extremely sloppy but most of the panels are there.. engine is SIEZED. But I have plenty I have a 12hp sitting in Elizabethtown PA at my parents a d I have the 12 horse off the c160 that is getting parted out. I'm currently making custom front hubs to adapt rear atv rims 🤪🤪( that'll be another thread.) I'll use the front tires off rhe 1277 to easily move the frame around until I have the time to really dig into her. I found her in staten island bit of an odd place to find but shes got a large plow on er.

She is home - does not start so the "100% works" statement on the auction listing was not correct (SMH). Purchased for $29.66 so not super concerned. I turn the key and abs. nothing (click or anything) so I think its the battery. I will hook it up to a tender/starter later.

If you don't have a lathe to make your own center drilling rig just go to your favorite hardware store and look in the Hillman cabinets. Get a 3/4" ID bushing that will slip over the spindle and a 3/8' ID by 3/4" OD bushing. The smaller bushing will be a press fit into the larger one and guarantee a centered starter hole using a 3/8" bit. Once the 3/8" hole has been drilled follow up with a 25/64" bit and tap the hole for a 7/16 X 20 bolt.

So I did some more detailing on the 856 " FORSAKEN " engine. I know the colors aren't for the purest but the orange matches the pinstripes and flames. Also not for the purest.

Power washed the undercarriage....degreased....sanded and painted. Saved a little on the disassembly work but not making show perfect. Top side with a spray bomb as well. On to the engine rebuild and then paint.

Most of us put more time on the clock in one year of mowing, that is fantastic!

Still reminds me of looking at an old Corvair engine... how the horizontal lower pulley drove the vertical upper fan pulley ... Fixed alternator and adjustable tensioner canted at oposing angles...

After a day of logging, both the worker 416-8 and the "ATV" 800 Special got parked up at the house. Turkeys and chickens performed the usual inspection... with Mr. Turkey getting ready for a test drive. Don

Tim Your mule drive is part of the mower package - down load your mower manual. Easy to change - back off the tensioner knob, remove the PTO pullpin and swing it out of the way - if needed. Revove the large nut on the mule drive, remove the guard. Remove belt - note the center pulley on the deck - belt goes on top pulley. Assembly is the reverse... You May wish to pull the 2 mule drive pulleys and spacers to inspect them . note the location of the 4 parts - all are different (and the manual does NOT tell you which is the long or short spacer). @CRAZYFROG could I borrow the face mask you were wearing when you made this deal ? sounds like the best deal on the site ! that paint is just begging for an aerosol lubricant soak down ! soak all metal , sit in sun to warm up and soak in , wipe down next day with clean soft cloth , till dry . you just saved that paint ! wasn't that easy ? retained patina , if you buffed it with a cleaner wax , it would look fresh . 22 hours for a baseline service issue , go get some lotto tickets , wow, pete

Two things come to mind - if you make up a tap drill guide slipover tool out of aluminum or steel, it will allow you to drill the ends centered and straight - a piece of round or hex stock, perhaps 1 incn across by 1-1/2 long.In a lathe, drill thru with the tap drill, then counterbore one end 3/4" slightly oversize by 1/2" deep. You will need to remove the spindles to do this Drill both, go back to the lathe and tap it thru - it now becomes your tap guide.. Did this on the snout of a 6HP Tecumseh to accept a centrifugal clutch years ago - worked well. Use blue loctite on the bolts at assembly.

The first set of spindles had snap rings and pulled thru. The axle on my donor had cotter pins. For now I’ve just put a heavy flat washer under the cotter pin. Once I get all of the major stuff done I’ll go back and prolly drill and tap the spindles and add thrust washers and bolts to prevent them pulling thru. I’m still in mock up stage so things change as I go along. Lol

The hitch is complete on the Trail-er-Sled and I built an angle iron draw bar for the Senior too. It should ride pretty level now!

I mentioned that this tractor will be in a parade in town on Saturday. I found out the nieces will be in the parade with us. Well, I built a wheel kit for the snow sled! I need to make the hitch a little more solid and it’ll be in tow behind the Senior this weekend! THE KIDS WILL NOT BE RIDING IN THE SLEIGH ON THE WAY TO TOWN! PNLY DURING THE PARADE!

So it is that time if the year again for my annual meet and greet and trail ride. The date will be Saturday October 8th. As usual please bring a reliable rider if possible for the 5 mile ride. Bring whatever you would like to eat/grill at the house and whatever you would like to drink. I have fridge in the barn and will have grill available. We will get started around 10. Please make sure to be here before 12 as we will head out as a group around that time. Everyone is welcome! If you don’t have a reliable rider we will get you on something with wheels! Feel free to ask questions here and/or let me know if your coming. Good to have some sort of head count. I will have soft drinks and some adult beverages in fridge for all. If you need my address send me a pm. Looking forward to a great get together!

520-8 original tractor, not a clone. Has 2300+ hours but the motor sounds very good, no smoke or knocks and runs fine after it’s hot, starts quickly. I would guess this motor has been replaced at some point or it has been taken care of very well as it sounds/runs as good as any 500-1,000 hour 520 I’ve had. Left rear tire has an extremely slow leak and it could use new rear tires but they do hold air. 8 speed works great. Paint is average for a 520 of this age, some cracks peeling and light surface rust around the edges. Has new front tires just put on last weekend and new fuel lines & filter. $900 firm located just east of Columbus, IN 47203 (can arrange help delivering around Midwest Monday-Friday if you’re not in a hurry). Will hold with PayPal f&f payment or Venmo. My phone blocks unknown calls so leave a message or send a text before/after you call.

If you turn the nail over to hit the pointy end and blunt it to prevent splitting, put the HEAD of the nail where you intend to drive the nail. This helps also. Creates a little 'divot' to place the blunted nail. If it's pointy, it acts like a wedge. If it's blunted, it shatters the fibers as it's driven and not as likely to split. Doesn't always work! But does often enough to make it worthwhile. ESPECIALLY when doing trim work! It's one thing when you split a 2x lumber, but you really don't wanna split a fancy casing.

Need more info on what you are thinking of and have parts for, but normally the rear clevis (aka sleeve) hitch is perfectly happy to coexist with a mower deck. It'll just move up and down in concert with raising and lowering the deck .

@fitz agree with others , very solid piece , take advantage of what works , and enhance it , lots of lubrication opportunities , speaking of lubrication , do you have a favorite? this is easy , aerosol spray down every painted surface , so its wet , let it sit a day in the sun , to heat up and suck in the lubricant to paint . next day wipe it down till dry with a clean cloth , I would do it again , that paint will be patina saved , and have a nice oil slick finish , done that for years . the neglected look will go away , it will look just right , for your thorough baseline service , @stegs was spot on with service ideas , look over everything , make the rust run out ! like rotella #30, for oil , lucas red or green grease , for stay with it lubrication , walmart has tubes . would love to bring that back myself ! glad to have you on board , pete

If the battery is good, you should check the safety switches. Clutch, seat, pto should have switches if they are still intact. That may be the reason you get nothing when you try to start it and the battery is good.

I flipped the front axle and added stops for the steering and temporary plates to hold the front axle from moving. The reverse camber makes steering twitchy but manageable. I used spindles with a cotter pin to retain the spindles for now. I cut the backend off my donor frame. I drilled out the 4 threaded holes on the donor frame and bolted it to the top of the tractor frame. This raised the trans up to level it with the front. I cut the stock trans mount off flush with the bottom of the frame.

I have used a glue stick on the four corners of the gasket to hold it in place. Check over both halves of the case to be sure the mating surfaces aren't scratched or have any dings in them but no sealer on the gasket surface. As for the head gasket no sealer there also but after a five minute break in run you should let it cool and retorque the head bolts.

@Jiminoh While roll pins are very hard they can be drilled out with a carbide drill bit. I have a small set of Ryobi carbide bits from Home Depot that are labeled for tile or glass. I have drilled out steering wheel roll pins with them, They work very well. If that doesn’t work one of the Vendors that list in Red Square “Vendor Section”. A-Z Tractor Salvage might have one. Give him a call at 717-821-2542. He is located in Pa. You could also place an ad in the Classified section herein. PS We would love to see some pictures of your Restoration.
