32 pointsSo my parents bought a new 310-8 back in 1989. I used that machine in high school to start my lawn mowing business and really started my passion for these machines. My parents divorced years later and mom ended up with tractor. She has been remarried for over 25 years to her husband Bobby who could not be a better guy. Well he wanted to restore the Wheelhorse and started on it last winter. I told him I would paint tins for him when the weather got better. So we painted tins when Ken b and I painted the 417 machines. So I went over today to put Terry’s awesome decals on and as we were finishing up he said I did this restoration for you… I want you to have the tractor. For those of you that don’t know I lost my dad back in 2012. Bobby said this was your fathers machine and I want you to have it. I honestly had no idea this was coming but it will be my most favorite machine in my collection. What a great gift by a wonderful man. I am sure that big Jim would be happy to know I have his Wheelhorse that he loved. My mom even had the original brochure and sales recipe. $2400 back in the day was a lot of money for my parents!

8 pointsWas SWMBO's birthday on Friday so we had a family BBQ yesterday. All there minus 6. Girls couldn't find a corkscrew in the kitchen but I found one in the workshop. I looked after the bar and made sure the beer and wine stayed cold. "Can I have a some?"

8 pointsCongrats Steve! It's amazing how a single point in time can alter the entire path of life we walk...

6 pointsWe spent the weekend doing two good strong busy days of getting the acreage ready for the upcoming wedding of Trina's daughter. Our best friend was here to help. A HUGE help. Trina's mom as well. We chipped a LOT of brush using the Mackissic chipper shredder. Several large piles are now gone. The chips were to be used to line pathways which will be used for the wedding guests and also our own usage after the big day. Our friend took it upon herself to accomplish the project and used some of our future firewood to edge the pathways. BBT and her mom worked on the benches for the vows area. She's using the 2" x 8" red oak that'll eventually be the bed of my truck. They set the boards out on the back of the utility trailer and Trina used a belt sander to take the coarseness off them. Then set them in place on 2 to 3 stumps each. Quite time consuming... The area looks fantastic!!

6 pointsGetting old sucks! I have arthritis and it was time. Wrist surgery. I had the right one done in 2017 and it has been great
-
6 pointsChanged the carb and cleaned her up a little. Running perfect now and even dug a little test hole. She's not pretty paint wise but she sure has big attachments. LoL

5 pointsWhich stands for Dodge County Antique Power Club. Suppose to be a relaxer after the Symco show but got rain Sat. Nite and had to pick up in the rain on Sunday but all was good, we were all ready for a bath. Very hot and humid the rest of the show. Enjoy brothers more to come. A pair of just awesome tractors here. The one had a Detroit 2 stroke diesel you could hear it coming.

5 pointshttp://www.zycon.com/Profile/Advanced-Antivibration-Components-AAC-225194/Anti-Vibration-Pads.html used these for years at work , especially in a highly stressed , drive set up , still have some of it to cut into a mount pad , virtually indestructible , make a very good engine . attachment support base . also have some under my rear hitch to rear end push up to transaxle , been experimenting with it for years , eliminates play , absorbs lift impact, just a brain fart , pete

5 pointsScrew campfires.... pull up a chair and a cooler and sit in front of this... Yah I know... my stacks are tall, many will think too tall. I like them like that... maybe I'll cut a few inches off bottom pipe if I get sick of it. Lol From right--C160 with rear engine rider steering wheel and heavy patina. Exhaust is a hacked off pipe from a Ford pickup. Got it this way and like the "rat" look Middle is a 310 on its 3rd engine and second set of tins. Came from show 2 years ago with a beat 12 hp K on it. I swapped a good Mag 10 on it and it's my favorite work tractor Left is a C160 that left factory with a Tecumseh OHV16 that's gone. Then it got a 16 hp Kohler out of a Hydro---that's how I got it. Then I put the Mag 16 on it with the correct drive pulley. The Hydro 16 with its Hydro pulley is going onto another C160 Hydro with a very bad knock Happy Weekend All!! 20220806_190828.mp4

5 pointsMrs. P is on a girls trip to an all inclusive for a week in the Dominican Republic. She sent me a picture of her pool today, so I sent her a picture of ours. Note I timed it to shoot a picture when I was on the diving board.

4 pointsAfter cutting some rough stuff yesterday the clutch pedal of my 73 Raider 12 was shaking up and down and the whole machine sounded very unhappy. Took the drive belt cover off today and found a bit of twig maybe 1/2" diameter and 1" long jammed in the "V" of the transmission pulley. So the belt couldn't seat properly. Easily recified. In 14 years with this machine never had that happen before

4 pointsOh my Lord did we eat.... I sprung for a brisket @Pullstart that was better than Portage ... I'm not sorry... P farmer did it all on Webers and awesome. Friday nite Dan's stuffed polanos...
-
4 pointsI. Don’t. Know. I guess it has to do with an unmatched engine as far as power goes, a bulletproof hydro, hydraulic lift, and the ability to run up to a 60” deck. And gear reduction steering in many cases. I still like my old round hoods better
-
4 pointsI had a 520. Loved the sound and power. Hated the fuel consumption and constant electrical issues. When all of the bolts that hold the PTO side crank bearing loosened up on their own and covered my driveway and garage with oil I said no more.

4 pointsWhite pants and shirt are Friday attire for @Wild Bill in VA, this was a Saturday project, Saturday is Red over Black!
-
4 pointsSteve, That's a beautiful story with a great happy ending! Wild Bil in Richmond VA
-
4 pointsBill how many pairs of white pants did you go through for that endeavor?
-
4 pointsThanks for posting this picture Bill! Showed it to my wife and she began to realize I'm not the only Wheel Horse owner that has several UFOs (un-finished-objects).

3 pointsWe needed a sign post to display our road sign and our emergency 911 designated address for the new camp land. So this is the product of about 85% recycled/scavenged material. The post was getting tossed out because the top was broken. (Roadside score) The shelf brackets and paint were found in the back of an old truck in the junkyard. The metal for the number plaque was from a butchered WH belt guard.

3 pointsI have a few pictures to throw in the ring as well. An Avery boiler over engine tractor running the saw mill. View from the cab of the Avery This Avery also has a steam powered generator that runs the lights and a small fan in the cab.

3 pointsI bought a new 520-H in 1989, I still have it. I worked it hard for many years and guessing well over 2000 hours on it. I've kind of retired it the last few years. I've yet to get it out this year, it needs some loving but with a good battery and fresh gas it would fire up and get the job done. A good running onan is hard to out work.

3 pointsIt is the strongest of the 3/4/500 series in horsepower. (The XI and LXI are on a different, larger chassis) On the later units with gear reduction steering you also get 1" front spindles with bearings on the vertical shaft as well and room for thrust bearings. Slightly beefed up frame. Most instrumentation (and most electrical complexity). Plus @Pullstart's notes: bulletproof hydro, hydraulic lift, capable of 60" deck. They are a very strong and powerful machine. Unless something in the list above is essential to meeting your needs, though, like a heavy FEL, 60" deck, two-stage snowblower, or some other implement. then there are less expensive, more economical, and (at least arguably) easier to maintain options. To me the sweet spots are the 314-H and the Kohler-powered 416-H. The above said, we have a 520-H chassis running an 18 hp Onan destined for some heavy grounds maintenance at a camp but I'm preparing an 854 (8hp) round hood with a 36" deck to mow my lawn and move trailers and carts and do dethatching and aerating

3 pointsStarted work on the tool tills . Three are missing from chest so that is what I am making. Making them from a Sapelle board with the ends out of Mahogany to use some short leftovers. They will be dovetailed together. Sapelle board Resawn on bandsaw Final trim to size Squaring ends on shooting board End grain shavings about 1/64” thick Ready for dovetail layout.

3 pointsFrom the Brian Miller site: FYI - The fuel baffle/splash shield prevents fuel inside the float bowl from traveling up through the atmospheric vent opening (air passageway into the float bowl) and into the throttle bore when the engine is "moving around" or "moving up and down" severely, such as on a go-kart, garden tiller or small all-terrain vehicle, which could cause the engine to momentarily run rich on fuel.

3 pointsHitch arrived this week and got it mounted this morning. It is really a great product, as mentioned extremely stout and well made. Already gave the wood trailer a test drive, feels great.
-
3 pointsDo not use the gear puller without the bearing separator. Yes the block is the key. The pulley will drag that other screw along the crank when it's pulled. I think I may have an extra pulley kicking around some where if you need one.
-
3 pointsSo cool! Love the story and history Is it getting a spot on the upper shelf ..
-
3 pointsCrap... I should've put Russ's @SALTYWRIGHT GT1800 in video, it has a stack too
-
3 pointsI would have said that too, but my right hand is much more steady with a drill
-
3 pointsThere is a recommended service interval for the low oil switch and special instructions for removing the switch without damage.
-
3 pointsKevin, just remember .... I don't do the wash at my house. Did Rylee put you up to this post ??? As I remember she watched very carefully while we swapped parts over on the raffle prize RJ-58 to see if my white pants got dirty .... and they didn't get a bit a grease on them. 3 pointsMe and Trina along with her mom and our good friend have been working hard getting the acreage ready for the upcoming wedding. Today we used the Cinnamon Horse C160-8 and Mackissic chipper shredder to take care of a BUNCH of brush. Also used it to drag the portable toilet that Trina and her mom made down to it's next usable position.

3 pointsBeen messing with getting my neighbor Grady’s grandkids go cart fit for riding… cut new plywood and put the seat covers back on today… the top of the backrest part was a little rough around the edges… fixed that with black go-rill-a tape.

2 points@moe1965 check at your local H/W store small pull out drawer section , or look up related w/h parts on this site , another thing that is glairing at me is the opportunity , to carefully pop off those bearing wide rubber side shields with a pocket screwdriver , clean cloth wipe out existing grease , flush with carb cleaner , repack with LUCAS X-TRA HEAVY DUTY CHASSIS GREASE , replace seals ,no more noise or possible failure . done that on all my mower decks and mule drive bearings and mower deck spindle bearings , imagine no whining bearing noise on your deck or mule drive . pete
-
2 pointsWhen I pulled the seal out of there it came out surprisingly easily I was Abel to get a corse thread drywall screw in one side, pulled and it slid right out.Very loose. either wrong size or it shrunk that much. I had a new seal I completely forgot about, installed after de-greasing and scuffing and glued it in.Thx for the tips!

2 points@stevebo Given your extensive collection and you saying that is now your favorite tractor that really says a lot. I (or should I say we all!) love to hear stories such as yours. Some people might think we are crazy placing sentimental value on a garden tractor, but most of us know that it certainly happens. I have around 20 Wheel Horses but only a few that really mean a lot to me and I will never sell.
-
2 pointsFeel free to reach out regarding a seat. The one pictured above is one of ours. There are several options available for that seat pan. Text is actually best or email. 860/729/6805 grnlark@cox.net Thanks, Matt

2 pointsThe best way to get that pulley off is a bearing separator locked into the inner pulley groove and a gear puller attached to the separator. You say you got the screw at the key backed out? A little heat and those tools and the pulley will slide right off. You can rent them at AutoZone or they are cheap at Harbor Freight. I have removed bigger pulleys in tight areas when the screws don't budge this way
-
2 pointsThat is pretty cool Tony. The flappers are almost in time with each other. Nice line up.
