On guard against any Deere…

I know some of you might "have" to take the key out of your tractor, but in my case, I'm the only one that uses my tractors, so my keys stay in the tractor. I have a hard enough time trying to find the tools I'm working with, without searching for a key.

Just picked up this rare 69 workhorse 700 for $200. The seller said it ran real good & sure enough it did! Tires look new too & it came with a plow . I think I did pretty good on this one ! A couple things I noticed , the engine may or may not be original, no key start, but the key does shut it off , the exhaust is venting under the hood, which I guess is the oem design & the drive belt seems a little loose

I also am the only one in our household that uses the tractors. However, the neighbor's grandchild is a curious lad that feels free to make himself at home in my shop and tractor storage areas. In my case, removing the key is also a safety issue.

Me too! Not anymore!! We all "had to" wear ours (except middle & upper management felt they were oh so privelaged and decided not to) What a hoot to watch them all scurry around looking for theirs when the Corporate folks would pop in, unannounced!!

My new favorite paint is Rust-oleum 2X Gloss Apple Red. Does not come close to any factory paint

Both just about done. Neither Kenb or I repainted the dash tower yet but here they are so far.

The two lid system although convenient is a bit precarious. That is specially so when one needs to remove a till from well. Support chains are always in way and snagging one means that heavy tool filled lid will come crashing down. It is evident by all the pulled and blown out hinge screws that box had when it came to me that previous owners had lots of problems with it. Had already resorted to a very old method on top lid and solution to second lid had to be the same system where lid is stopped and supported by a fixed stop using the chest and it’s weight for leverage. Introduced also adjustment for open angle of second lid placing this way all weight of it bearing straight down onto floor. Was trying to avoid all the extra exterior parts but this is the only safe way.

You can get a key at Lowes, Home Depot, Advance Auto, NAPA or most any mower sales shop.

And this is the way I did mine. And the kit I used from Northern Tool.

I grabbed the bearings today for the other front wheel. Also grabbed the fittings for the gas tank. Then mounted the wheel, gas tank and engine.

Im still alive and kickin, but life has taken a bit of priority over the stables lately, but incase anyone wonders: Lil booger 655 went to a new home, since selling the little ladys place there was no need for the lil guy anymore. 'Lawn duty' K341 swapped 1277 just keeps on ticking on the 1.2 acres and even gets a little cruise here and there. Hoss is, well, Hoss- he's dragging the plow, scrape blade, push blade and whatever else I want to throw at him, and looking good doing it. Thats the one I built the big valve K321 for. Ol Smoky 701 is just too tired to do well anymore and is in the shop, about to get an engine overhaul. Rescued a real messy late 80s 520H, got it up and running/driving and its going to a new home this week for a quick flip and profit. Ah, and the ol B-1 bomber off roader- finished up that big cammed, billet filled 20.5 Briggs pressure lube oppy and it is an absolute animal! It continues to take me on adventures with zero issues. Oh, and yeah, theres that orange thing in one of the pics. I had to have just one, always liked the looks of them. Only took about 5 minutes of tinkering on it to realize they are a heckuva machine but nowheres near as simple as a Horse! How have you all been? Whacha's got in the stables these days? -Green

I'm always looking for free stuff I acquired a free kitchen the other day as well, a friend's daughter is renovating her house and needs it gone....probably use a bit of it to improve this houses tiny kitchen and the rest into my new garage. Problem is that we are always living in rented accommodation at the moment, so I don't want to spend a fortune on improvements. However, I also only have one life so refuse to "exist" in houses that are not good enough. Looking forward to buying again so all the effort is entirely for us, but until then we beg steal and borrow to get these houses up to scratch. My landlords always get a good deal! I asked the owner "why?" and he just shrugged saying his wife wanted it that way when they lived there. I never understood the obsession with conservatories - too hot in the summer, too cold in the winter, most pointless invention ever.

Then that could be part of my problem, I didn't have the belt guard on when I was trying to test drive. I did take a piece of wood wrapped with sand paper to all the pulleys as they spun, they cleaned up pretty well. I was able to find the gasket set finally. The engine sounds good, but the governor seal is shot and spewing oil! I'll have to check the belt length. Thanks Don! Just went and check....tab is intact!!

Maybe they are better suited that way for backing out of a sticky situation

Earlier this summer we were sitting on the back patio enjoying adult beverages and watching the tree rats raiding the bird feeders. Alla sudden, out of the shrubberies comes a Red Fox on the run, grabs one of the tree rats just like in your pic and trotted off toward the tree line. It was pretty cool to see this up close and personal. I don't think the fox knew we were there, and even if he did, he was more hungry than he was wary of us. It was only about 20 feet away.

Well not quit a pet but he keeps the tree rat population down. 😂

Me n the BBT are doin' well also. Currently sitting at 12 tractors. Three for her. Same mid 60s she's had. Seven for me. 5 C160s now! An Ariens S16H. The Colossus project is on hold til late fall or whatever. Couple projects for someone else. 417As Garden is in. Her daughter gets married in 3 weeks. Our new building project is still floating along in the works... All good so far.

All the parts of the handbrake latching mechanism layed out. Notice the square in the axle and on the handle? Look familiar? And everything assembled. Pull the handle and the handbrake engages the drum and latches. To release the handbrake you pull the handle a bit, push the button and let go of the handle and the button. Handbrake cable slots into the 'fork' on the foreground.
