I'll use low range when descending a couple of short, steeper grades on my property for speed control. I'll also use low range for towing heavier loads and when I want to creep along while maneuvering around something I don't want to hit. Sometimes, I'll use low range just for the heck of it 'cause I haven't run it there in a while.

Low Range is around ¼ the speed of Hi. It makes it tractor usable for tilling rough dry tough ground at a full engine RPM while keeping forward motion ultra slow. Another use ... The one Trina and I have 6/8 speeds for ... Reverse. On our VERY rough terrain it's invaluable to be able to drop reverse motion to a next to nothing speed while backing into tight quarters in the forest.

Look at this. 1988 Coachmen Leprechaun. Sitting on a Ford E-350 chassis. 7.5l (460) engine. C-6 auto. 12162 actual 1 owner miles. Never sat outside til now. It will be in the shed when not in use. Hadn't been started since 2016. Put a battery in her? She fired right up. Cleaned the carb on the Onan Emerald1 genset and also fired right up. The genset had 22 actual hrs. Of run time on it. I just did the 4th oil change it has ever had. It needed rear tires. Even though they looked new? 35 year old tires tend to crack. The po put new fronts on in 2016 before he parked it. I put app. 100 miles on it so far and it drives great. Check it out.

low range reverse with the engine running about 1/2 throttle is a good creeping speed for backing a trailer into a tight spot. Others here have made front receiver hitches. Low 1 is even slower than low reverse. Having the hitch in front would make things much more comfortable than looking over your shoulder with a rear hitch. I think I just talked myself into building a front receiver hitch sooner than later.

@Snoopy11 SNOOP, regularly use my low range for motion control , or heavy mowing , when i,m trimming my lawn edge close to a hedge , that low range / hi gear is just about right for the detailing control i want , also use it on a lawn slope edge , for solid safe traction control . when you are cutting heavy dense grass , that low range takes the loading off the deck , makes it easy . once you start regularly using it , its a very simple go to , for motion help , pete

Low is mostly ground engagement use like dirt plowing and rototilling… power to the ground and implement… not speed…

If you have occasion to load/unload using ramps you will love low range. I have also gotten bogged down in some mud and used First/Low as I get off to push. It is slow enough that even an old codger like me won't have a problem keeping up!

My last project was my first “8-speed”. The only use while I own this tractor is for a puller. I’m not real sure the advantage for me other than speed control. In 1st and reverse, is unbelievably slow but steady in low gear.

Finished the first section of the fence today. The last post was really hard to get in. The others weren't much better. When I bought this place 20 something years back, I moved the double gateway and replaced it with a single gateway, leading up the the front door. The base edge for the gate post I removed, was just where I wanted/needed the last post. Murphy strikes again. Spade, BIG chisel, lump hammer, crow bar and 1-1/2 hour later the post was in position. How does that saying go about mad dogs and Englishmen and the midday sun? Anyway, by 3-30pm fence finished. That should get me a few Brownie points. Maybe!

If you like that trailer this wooden beauty was one of my favorites. I had to stain it, make the tailgate and put the floor in it. Kick myself for selling it.

Pays to shop around. I needed 1. 4 for $6 or 100 for $24. Now I have spares. And one more tire that’s not flat on the bottom…

Low range in any scenario is intended for speed control and making low speeds available at useable RPMs. However, because it is done by the use of extreme gear reduction an unavoidable side effect is a massive increase in torque.

I have used low range first gear to help pull bushes and shrubs out of the ground as an extra person, while not on it. Half dig them up, wrap a chain a few times in the root ball, secure to tractor and put it in gear and let those tires spin. You can dig around the root while the tractor does all the pulling and doesn't tire out. Once free the tractor hasn't moved more than 3-5 feet from where it was and you can push the clutch in a take out of gear pretty quickly if you have even a little coordination. Only drawback is the tires will spin and eat into your turf a bit. Other than that though it's pretty nice and easy.

1 in the rear left. I cleaned the spot. Only to find out? The Po had siliconed it. But? Must have put the gray stuff on. I don't know what it is called. I am new to this world. But? The silicone was still un-cured. Apparently? They put the sealer on before allowing it to cure. The grey stuff was hard, but, water must have been seeping under it. I wiped the silicone off with a paper towel. Anyway. I am using Everbond tape. That is what my rv'ing brother said to use. I flooded the top. And? So far? No leaks. Hoping it works.

Took fence down. Cut down some wild sumac in the neighbors "forever wild" section behind their shed that grows over our fence. Wife's garden backs up to it. They have it fenced off so they don't have to look at it and don't maintain it. All the sumac and wild cucumber vines end up over here. There's a Maple growing in there that will uproot their shed someday. Put fence back up. 85 ° F with a heat index of 95°

@sjoemie himself no I don’t know this man, but he’s spot on! There are plenty of videos of kids racing their KX65 dirt bikes, wrecking and racing again. I was that skateboarding kid. Never could master a board slide, but I can tell you that to ollie down 20+ steps, there’s all kinds of chaos in that millisecond of dropping. I’ve snapped more boards and taken apart more new Christmas toys than I can count. My kid is that gymnast too. 16 hours a week she practiced before the pandemic shutdown. My wife joked to a friend once that if she went to bed and I wasn't there, she didn't worry because I'd just be sleeping with my horses in the shop. Of all the things people get attached to, I prefer these tractors over most things!

Dad and I used to do that for garden work. He'd hitch up the trailer and we'd load it with water buckets, fertilizer, whatever was the order of the day, and set the tractor in 1st low and just let it run along the row while we worked. The other thing it was good for, we had a few spots in that yard that would grow a foot a week during the rainy periods. 1st low would mow through anything.

@953 nut also used that low range / first gear for brush clearing , do your chain saw work , nylon load strap it up , to your ball hitch and just walk that pile of brush right out of the spot . dragged out trees also , best effect ever had was using a rope and pulley to move heavy rocks , tractor pulling the rope , attached to heavy rock , got things going . very useful pete

We generally use 2nd hi for that. Unless you’re Lowell’s clan, they run in 3rd hi!

@Handy Don at the zagrey show sat , the fordson tractor display was awesome ! was talking to a few guys , assisted with a throttle hold for a start , just an amazing piece of the past, there was a 49 ford tractor , with flathead power that was a 3 year rebuild , from grandpa to grandson , sharing all the work , lots of good stuff. my wife told me DO NOT COME HOME WITH ANOTHER TRACTOR ! wonder what she meant by that ? maybe i,ll luck out at the fall show , pete

Just a simple U bolt. With no room for a flange bearing, the shaft will rotate inside a piece of pipe. The U will be bolted to an overhead angle. This is the next step I hope to complete today. Then we will see how the Predator -fits

This morning I fitted the universal. I have a good idea how I will secure the outside shaft. The steering wheel position looks 100% better. @Pullstart NE Ohio has bears. Recently one was spotted in the backyard where I grew up.

Good thing I never posted the video from this day on my channel, they would have thrown a fit about it too...that's my 9 year old nephew driving the Case SC...basically in full control of the tractor...I was standing on the drawbar to be able to run the hand clutch, but he was in full control of the steering and where he wanted to go. Sad to see what things are coming to, same as most of us here I grew up on this old equipment, and was taught at a young age to operate it but also to respect it. Can it be dangerous at times? Sure it can, but so can just about any other activity kids engage in. Should we ban all videos depicting kids playing sports, I mean I'm in the heart of farm country, we all grew up running tractors during the summer, and I have seen far more injuries on the football field or the basketball court than I have on a tractor. But it goes back to the fact that we were taught to use and respect said equipment, which I have no doubt in my mind that @PeacemakerJack @Pullstart and any others here who let their children or grandchildren would do so if they didn't feel that said children were responsible enough to be operating

Kinda didn’t want to weigh in on this one. But I will…I suspect the committee that makes decisions about what can or can’t be viewed on YouTube don’t have the slightest idea how to operate a tractor (lawn mower or farm tractor), have never hunted or fished, haven’t gone camping for a week in a tent etc. My money says they are all young people who’s parents hired a lawn service, went to fancy hotels and resorts for vacations, had a car given to them at the age of 16 and it was always repaired/serviced at a shop or dealership. They didn’t work on a farm in the summer or after school trying to make enough cash for a few gallons of gas and to take out your best girl. I had em in my high school…I drove a well worn 1974 Chevy Vega GT that I bought with my own money for $600 while some of the kids had nicer and newer cars than my dad had! This lack of real life experience makes them the worse choice for the decision on YT videos. Just my opinion.

My case I want to Be able to store some Tractor attachment that are not exactly a 1 Person Lift up stairs for off season storage It's all Under 300 lbs But over 150 lbs and all My Helpers (Children) are spread across the country . The only downside of your Kids growing up! The helpers go away/ Most Of my friends around me are Senior citizens Now they Have 10 to 15 years On Me I am usually the one they call to help them do the Heavy Lifting Yet all there Kids are close by

Houston, we have a problem. (Apollo 13) and a problem with my project. Matter of fact it was the reason I built the black hood over this round hood. Its the angle of the steering wheel column in the first photo. I like the second photo so I'm thinking a universal joint. BTY once again I am using detachable steering wheel

This wheel horse runs great but cuts off and not throttle. It’s got some bugs to be sorted out he runs and sound amazing!!! did I mention fast as a rabbit too???
