Took a step into a new world today with the addition of a classic car. I'm not a ford guy, but my wife's great grandparents bought this brand new and it's never left the family. Only has 86,000 original miles and was parked in 1974 until my father in law drug it out of the shed it was in and got it going again. It's been painted and new quarter panels. New carpet on the inside as well. Still has the little baby 223 straight six, but it is fun to drive with that 3 on the tree! Couple things need fixed, but I plan on having some fun with this over the years!

just some morning shots , before a check over , this is my frankenhorse for all my experiments , for problem removal / upgrades , any modifications were thoroughly tried and verified as a solid fix to any related problem, lots of hours , then apply it to my other 2 horses . if I tell you a change works , it reliably does . typically , just altered the way anything was set up , or regularly failed . really don't even think about the hours, because i,m always snoopin around . jump on anything as soon as it shoes it self . greasy pete

The fabrication and machining for the 4-1/2" drop front axle using 520-H 1" spindles for the 633 Hot Rod build is complete.

When I was 4 and we got our first Wheel Horse, we had a 63 Galaxie Country Squire wagon. Black with red interior.

I am a Ford guy and that is one nice field cruiser... and with a family history. Thanks for sharing. Sure wish I still had my honeymoon ride....'59 Ford ragtop.

4 generation 1964 Ford Custom...doesn't have the chrome like the Galaxy. Classics for sure. Nice car Mike...enjoy.

Well i have been building the chrome stacks for years now , this is the first set of D200 stock location mufflers i have built , hopefully the owner of this pair will post some pictures when installed and give us all a report on them , still building the chrome stacks but the price of material has gotten crazy so im going to venture out into other styles here in the near future

Tell me what manuals you need, I'll download them, print them, and mail them to you for the cost of postage.

Well a little more progress. It’s officially a roller. So far $270 in this rig. Now off to the mechanics.

Father in law even gave me a vintage pic of the car from back in the day! Sitting in the same place where I took pics of it over the weekend!

Had my Raider 12 out for some exercise this morning. Probably the last time that I will be able to get through the pumpkin patch with the cultivator, they are really growing fast now. Pumpkins seem to be doing well. Patch looks real purty with all of the blooms. After a hard morning's work out, my Raider got to enjoy some spa time. Fully groomed & ready to go to a show next week.

OK so here’s the thing my mother-in-law bless her heart! Thought she saw a bargain setting in a yard so she buys it without contacting us prior to this!!! Luckily her purchase price was reasonable! Calls husband and says how quick can you get here with your little black trailer! She sends a few pictures! Visually it didn’t look super bad, I am home by now and we show up together and,.. flat tires rear ends locked up holes in the hood non-running non-correct engine but what the heck she had the right idea “save a horse”! Took the three of us to push it on the trailer! Well today we decided to tear into that horse.. thought we would switch the engines over to a good one put a different transmission in it, you know the simple stuff…..! Well it’s never quite as simple when the previous owner or the previous owner before that previous owner owns a welder!!!!! 🤯. The hubs on the transmission cannot be removed they welded them to the shaft the belt pulley on the side of the transmission can’t be removed they welded that!!!! So this thing needs correct herbs it’s on full size 12s at the moment so it can be wheeled around but the fenders would rub the wheels! The hole in the hood was cut in there so they could put a funnel and put gas in the gas tank on the non-correct engine! 😢. I pulled the replacement engine over in my Little red radio flyer wagon!!! 😂

An old saying of mine is "A mechanic doesn't sleep till he hears it run", meaning as once you put the work into a project, you're not satisfied till you know it's right and running! After dinner tonight thoughts of that old Clinton 3.6hp just sitting on my work bench and I just had to know does it still run. It took Kaeden and I to get from the work bench to a stand outside, it had to be lifted over 3 Wheel Horses and I had to be careful not to knock that old 2 x 4 manifold off the bench too. (Anybody care to take a guess what that dual quad set up is for?) WE didn't have much gas in the can (remints from the Cruise Night at the show) but we put some in a fuel tank that was laying around. The engine on/off toggle switch wasn't marked which way was on, so I pulled the plug and cleaned it and gave the recoil a pull ...... Hey I got spark .... and after 15 or so years that ain't bad. With the little bit gas and shot of either that old Clinton came to life. Oh and yes I did check the oil and lubed up the Schnacke recoil. I took a picture of the red Wheel Horse paint that was still on the air filter hold down bolt. Now keep in mind Kohler, Clinton and Tecumseh/Lauson would paint their engines before shipping them to Wheel Horse in South Bend, IN and this why you get different colored engines from the frame. Yes, they are in fact all turning at different speeds. I started with the three spring clips lined up with the blades via a straight edge on the side of the blade. After ten revolutions of the center blade it's clear that it's revolving quite a bit slower than the two outer blades and that the two outer blades are 'close, but no cigar'. After 20 revs the left blade in the pic is nearly lined up again with the center, and 22 revs on the right blade. I'm going to repeat a few more times to see if I get the same results... (definition of insanity?) After that I'm going to remount the deck and see if balancing that one blade that was slightly out made any difference. And after that, I'm going to wear ear plugs and simply ignore it if it still is trying to Woo me.

I’ll tell it to ya straight. My front AC on the camper has more gorilla tape on it now than before the Big Show!

These little tractors load a whole lot easier than the big ones! plenty of room to fart in there!

@Pullstart original paint , over the years , I have rubbed it down with penetrating oil to feed the paint , its really a very simple /easy thing to do , and it works without effort . originally did that on used stuff I got , don't even think about it , clean cloth , aerosol lubricant on clean paint , pow ! that lubricant fed paint is deep and solid in shine , weeks later , just some spray wax , try it , you'll like it , pete

The axle started as a bent 2"X3" rectangular tube. It was bent with minimum bend radius and the center pivot is as high as it can go. The new fabricated frame will have notched angle iron side rails so the axle can pivot the same as OEM. Both the center pivot and the spindle tubes have greaseable bronze bushings.

We just picked it up, d180. That would be fun, the d's kinda grow on ya. This one is in amazing shape just missing one muffler. And best thing is I know the hydro is good cause I rebuilt a few years back.

Zeek posting this thread inspired me to clean up my old fan and replace the cord. I think it looks pretty good and is whisper quiet.

Been busy on other projects and keeping my county cool. I have managed to install just about all parts bought from Brian @ K & B Horse Parts. It's been a roller since last week thanks to Miller Tires in Ohio. I will need to source an upper steering shaft bronze bushing since mine is worn. The engine has been disassembled, cleaned, inspected, two new crankshaft seals, honed & ready for new piston/rod assy installation. It is in very good condition with all measurements well within spec. Hoping to have the engine mounted and running by next weekend.

So far this year I don't remember a better mother-in-law story.

I personally would not go with anything less than 3/8 rod. I cut the ends off from the stock tie rods, turn the ends down from 5/8" to 3/8" so that I can use new tie rod ends.

Progress and electrical questions... Things that are going bye-bye... YIKES!!! I have no clue how to wire this switch, or even how to test it to see if it works... Brand new custom made wires... you guys please check out these pictures and tell me if everything looks right! Ground to engine block: What the hell is this wire??? Transmission fluid got changed today... little bit of rust... but no metal materials although... there is a little bit of "other" gunk in it as you can see (I flushed it out very well)... Now... I haven't looked at the wiring manual yet for the switch OR for the ignition coil. BUT... do you guys know anything about the key switch... particularly for testing purposes... as well as what wires go on the ignition coil terminals? Power goes to one to trigger... but I'm not entirely sure how to wire it... My goal here is to eliminate safety switches, as I don't have PTO or a mowing deck... so I plan for it to be like my other Wheel Horse tractors. I'm going to look at wiring diagrams, but I'd also appreciate any advice you guys can give! Oh, and I got my throttle and choke cables working @peter lena ...nicely lubed-up! Don

I even used rubbing alcohol and a sanding block to prep the area before the taping commenced, in the hot sun to adhere the tape well!

I have some black gorilla tape covering a crack in black trim on a car. 2 years and counting and still looks great. And no this vehicle is not stored inside a garage… amazing stuff…

I used some black gorilla tape on a bumper on a car and 6 year's later still could hardly tell it was there. Should be good for the life of the trailer or the next over hang.

WELP... I picked up a lot of stuff yesterday... gear oil... wires... a couple cans of primer, fuel filter... spark plug(s) and some other odds and ends. Now... it's just finding the time to actually get to the tractor... The only thing I got to do on the tractor yesterday was recheck the points gap... had to mow, take out some dead trees, and work on the golf cart from the morning until after sundown... Personally... I would LOVE if there were 3 or more of me... For whatever reason... the other community members here on the funny farm do not share my sentiment... Don

This would be one way to fix the issue and nothing wrong with this idea. Other fix would be to find correct rims.

Had a 63 Falcon in that same color. AIRC, it was a smaller six than yours, maybe a 190 something? Had a 3 on the tree. Later swapped out the six for the 260 8 cyl and a four speed. Fun times!

Should be able to spin a 'Burb on the beaver tail... like Dan says if it fits... it ships! fill up the IH for me if you want. Only a 50gal tank on it No thanks trying to quit... My gas buddy app is on crack. Got to the BP in town and 5.49.....

Reading through this thread I keep coming back to the harmonics. The cyclic resonance/dissonance has to be from two things rotating at slightly different speeds to emit slightly different noise frequencies. I noticed, for example, on the 42RD deck I just worked on which had a new deck belt, clean pulleys, and a good belt tensioner that one blade would revolve ~2º further around for each revolution of the other two (which were much more closely sync'd) when I had it upside down and was turning the blades by hand. I finally found that pulley was ever so slightly bent so it's "belt circumference" was slightly shorter than the other two. I did my best to straighten it but it still isn't perfect. Haven't noticed any "thrum" dissonance but we mow with ear protection that blocks a lot of sound!

I installed new rubber motor mounts on my '78 c-161. Not something I want to ever do again! But it needed to be done as the old ones were delaminated and it had the shakes.

Brakes were completely gone over and it the brakes work pretty good for an old heavy car. It still has the original master cylinder though so I'm not too sure about that. The lid screws off like a canning jar! I was thinking though of doing a disc brake conversion on the front with a new master cylinder and adding a brake booster. If my wife is gonna drive it that would just make me feel better. I love those county squire's! I just think they're a nice looking car for a station wagon! It's fun to drive that's for sure! Couldn't help but smile the whole time I was driving it!

Did you use an assembly lube when you put it back together?

Here is the view from my front porch into my neighbors yard. He is a nursing home now and they belonged the his Dad. Not sure what the family will do with them when he is gone, but I sure enjoy looking at them. Randy
