11 pointsThe 315-8 Existing control panel was rusted through. A New or used 315-8 panel is impossible to find because the hole layout is rare . My solution…. I used a 312-8 panel. I upgraded from the rectangle to the round hour meter, cut a rectangular hole for my oem electric PTO switch. Then sanded , prime , & 4 coats of paint . Came out nice . I like the (2) matching round meters better & the new PTO switch location !

11 pointsHad my Raider 12 out for some exercise this morning. Probably the last time that I will be able to get through the pumpkin patch with the cultivator, they are really growing fast now. Pumpkins seem to be doing well. Patch looks real purty with all of the blooms. After a hard morning's work out, my Raider got to enjoy some spa time. Fully groomed & ready to go to a show next week.

11 pointsOne of my C-81's helped me roofing at my friends house today. I built an addition on the right side of his garage 2 years ago & re-shingled it. Today I tore off the left side & the breezeway that connects to the house. It's a little over 5 square so there is about a thousand pounds of shingles in that trailer, she never complained once.

10 pointsIt's been a while since I posted on here! I recently got another Wheel Horse, got this C-81 with a 42" deck and plow ... I wouldn't think 8 hp is enough for the 42" deck, seems odd to me. The previous owner said it was running a couple years ago but didn't have the time to put into it. I already started going through it and doing some work. I drained the fuel, put new fuel lines in, and completely re-wired the tractor. The wiring was a complete mess of electrical tape and random taps, and I started doing troubleshooting but it was just confusing. It was easier to remove everything and start fresh with a schematic. I went for a minimal wiring setup avoiding the safety switches, I do not plan to use this machine for any PTO applications anyway, the 416 will do that a lot better. After fixing the wiring (and replacing the solenoid) I was able to get the engine to crank at least, but it looks like no fuel is getting to the carb, or even the filter. I'm thinking the fuel pump must be bad. Also the PTO is blue for some reason, and so is the dipstick for the transmission. I'm not sure why, this is odd to me as well. Overall it seems like a pretty solid machine, at least not messed with too much. It will make a great pushing/pulling machine for me - although I've been thinking about cleaning up and painting this one...

10 pointsHusband changed out the new carb for an original today the new one worked great but then it didn’t lol…. He didn’t want trouble with it at Wisconsin so fixed that and was doing a little touch up on the trail behind seat. Wants to have it sandblasted sometime down the road!

7 pointsOK so here’s the thing my mother-in-law bless her heart! Thought she saw a bargain setting in a yard so she buys it without contacting us prior to this!!! Luckily her purchase price was reasonable! Calls husband and says how quick can you get here with your little black trailer! She sends a few pictures! Visually it didn’t look super bad, I am home by now and we show up together and,.. flat tires rear ends locked up holes in the hood non-running non-correct engine but what the heck she had the right idea “save a horse”! Took the three of us to push it on the trailer! Well today we decided to tear into that horse.. thought we would switch the engines over to a good one put a different transmission in it, you know the simple stuff…..! Well it’s never quite as simple when the previous owner or the previous owner before that previous owner owns a welder!!!!! 🤯. The hubs on the transmission cannot be removed they welded them to the shaft the belt pulley on the side of the transmission can’t be removed they welded that!!!! So this thing needs correct herbs it’s on full size 12s at the moment so it can be wheeled around but the fenders would rub the wheels! The hole in the hood was cut in there so they could put a funnel and put gas in the gas tank on the non-correct engine! 😢. I pulled the replacement engine over in my Little red radio flyer wagon!!! 😂

7 pointsI was too tired to post this last night but another C-160 made her way back home yesterday. I had fixed her up for a friend about 4 years ago so he could use her for his driveway. He found a good deal on a snowblower & chains & fabricated an electric chute controll with a car window motor, works great. Sadly, about a month ago a milling machine fell over on top of him crushing his ribs & breaking his back. He came home from the hospital last week & is doing well but his seat time is over for a while. She was stored for the summer in a neighbors shed with a leaking roof & was not very happy, so she made her way home where she will given the love she deserves.

6 pointsI'm getting into the smaller stuff. Made a floorboard and a shift.. gate? I guess you could call it. Seems simple enough but was a lot of work to get right. Also worked on the handbrake, which turned into a project in itself.. no pictures yet, i'll snap a few tomorrow.

6 pointsGot the mowing deck on. Need to replace a bearing in the one pulley for the main belt. Also need to fabricate a PTO lever, I've been bringing most of my tools to the hosue as they are scattered between locations (fire department, storage, second job) Cut, drilled mounting holes, and painted belt drive cover. Still chiseling the concrete out of the one rim.... really kicking my butt and I have an electric chisel too.....

5 pointsI think we would need to see the 'big picture' to give a proper answer, and really, it's a question for a structural engineer and not someone with 'internet credentials' I will say that those cross beams may be serving to tie the two opposite walls together. Imagine a full load of snow on that roof, you can see how it would want to push the opposite walls apart.

4 pointsI didn't think a picture of my Senior was listed so here is mine. I have always called it a 1956 due to certain construction details in this unit. The Wisconsen engines used by the Ponds were purchased in bulk, meaning an older let's say a 1954 Wisconsen engine could have been installed in a 1955 or 1956 year built Senior model. Also notice some of the Wisconsen AEN 8.3 HP engines have a double grooved pulley in the front of the crankshaft but do not have electric start, again some of these engines came with that pulley whether it was used or not. Mine is all original and was purchased at an auction in Burbon, Indiana from the second owner who owned a Wheel Horse dealership and took this Senior in on a trade. I have a snowplow, moldboard plow, trailer hitch and a cultivator set for the Senior. Wild Bill in Richmond VA

3 pointsWell i have been building the chrome stacks for years now , this is the first set of D200 stock location mufflers i have built , hopefully the owner of this pair will post some pictures when installed and give us all a report on them , still building the chrome stacks but the price of material has gotten crazy so im going to venture out into other styles here in the near future

3 pointsI am starting this thread now... but things will get more interesting in Fall when I decide what kind of modifications are in order... I picked this 416-8 up from @davem1111 today... this was one of the 200$ tractors that he picked up a couple of months ago. Can't express how grateful I am to Dave. Thus far... I got the engine running which included cleaning out the flywheel which had an ENORMOUS amount of ground up leaves in it. I changed the oil, corrected wiring issues. Now, I have a running engine. I have to pop and drain the transmission fluid, among many other tasks coming up in the next couple of months. I will say, without actually doing anything to the transmission, I can tell it is very smooth and goes in each gear nicely. The shifter boot materials are toast... so I'll need to buy things like that later on. Painting will also be in order at some point. The hood is going to need some repair... nothing that I haven't faced in the past... I haven't decided which seat I am going to use... as I have 2. Hopefully those in the green don't argue too much with the horses... (the zero turn is hiding in the corner from the Horses)... I might very well either switch the wheels that are on the 800 special with the ones on the 416-8... or I may just end up buying AG tires for the 416-8 in the Fall... This one is going to be pretty sweet, Ladies and Gentlemen. Don

3 pointsIt is amazing what can be done to keep a Wheel Horse going with parts from the "fence row"! In all my years I have never heard of the axle hubs being welded to the axle shafts on a Lawn Ranger. And I have always said "if you need a good 3 speed Unidrive get one from a Lawn Ranger since Wheel Horse did not make ground engaging attachments for that model" . 3 pointsGrandfathers GT-14 tractor update Folks I believe I have found my grandfathers tractors. Spoke to the man who purchased them from the auction and he has said the man who has them probably won’t sell them because a lot of people have tried buying them from him. I didn’t get his name or number but the man got my name and number, and is going to have him call me sometime Fingers crossed that the man will call me and we can strike a deal to get them back into the family or at least keep tabs on them, and get updated photos of them besides the one I post of If he has them, which everything is pointing to him having them. Then I will do my very best to get the two GT-14’s back into my Schrum family

3 pointsDepends on how the grass is growing. In the spring when it's growing fast I raise the tractor and scrape out the deck every other mow. After the Big Show I do a "Summer Service" on the tractor and yank the deck apart. What you see in the pictures is typical of a couple of mows and what's between the deck and insert is typical for half a season. what's between the deck and insert is green powder. I haven't had to touch the actual inside of the deck in 6 years.

3 pointsI've been thinking it would be neat to have this rig going up to Owl's Head show which is next weekend. I'd need to clean up the wiring a little and install an electric fuel pump amongst the other known issues. Here we can see the PO repair for bypassing the PTO switch. It was wrapped in electrical tape... Today I modified and installed a battery hold down. Also changed the solenoid which I discovered had a loose small terminal when I tried to remove the wire from the ignition switch. I didn't have a carb kit in stock for the LMH (big) carburetor. Because of that I wasn't able to remove the side welch plug and clean behind it. I did clean it out what I could. Installed the carb. Fired it up.. It'll run for a bit... Make some fun popping sounds... And die out. I believe the carb is still gunkified internally. While messing with that the starter began acting up. The Bendix has of course been setting for (decades?) And isn't overly willing to move right. Not disengaging when I let off the key. So I pulled the side cover off the engine to see what's happening there... We had a talk involving brake clean and dry lube. Now it'll disengage if I make the engine turn completely several times. "Bump" the key and it sticks. Good enough for now. While in there I cleaned a few insect nests off the flywheel. Today I'll check the pin to ignition coil gap. Finding that the longer pin should be around .010. Then get the side cover put back and see about putting a Kohler Carter #30 carb on it. This is the carb that was on the original C160 Kohler engine that eventually became Cinnamon Horse. It was very loose and the top linkage was broken. At one point I had tried to hold it in place with solder but couldn't get it hot enough. It needed to be brazed. This time I used J. B. Weld Quick set. If it runs better I'll likely just set the RPM to something at a very high idle. I probably won't have time to create a linkage to the governor but that'll do for show purposes.

I will probably strip the whole tractor down, throw all the old electrical in the garbage, and custom build from there. This one is going to be a lot of time and work. 3 pointsYeah good to have Kenb back. I decided to shoot the inside surfaces today and did the bodywork on the outside. Also primed outsides for the last time. Tomorrow I plan on a final wet sanding and ready to paint.

3 pointsI fully understand @ebinmaine's story. Mine is from the other side. Several of you know that my niece and nephew asked me to help them find a solid, reliable mower for their acre in New Jersey (they recently moved from west Texas with their four children and finances are tight). I found one, went through it to be sure all was well and readied it for delivery. Today, with a lot of hours behind the wheel being closely followed by a red tractor and then an empty trailer, I delivered it as a gift to them. They were kinda stunned. Gave some basic lessons in starting and operating, went through the original manuals that I got with it, impressed on them the importance of safe usage and regular maintence, and left them mowing the lawn. I'm tired but very happy.

2 pointsOh, I see, you're talking about the PTO. Sorry, didn't mean to be dense. The pulley I replaced is the clutch for the transmission drive, the one under the seat linked to the clutch pedal. It's a pressed together sealed ball assembly that most of us can't do much with except buy a replacement.

2 pointsBeen reading through this as I am getting close to tearing down a 48” to replace one spindle and weld up a crack under the center plate. Also, @peter lena, didn’t you do a small modification where you added an extra idler pulley for belt slack? Not sure if it was for a 48” or not but thought I’d ask. Nice compilation of info guys.

2 pointsThere are a lot of modification videos on YouTube for the large HF cabinet. Get a media metering valve to attach to the bottom, reverse the locations of the fresh air intake and vacuum hookup. Get a cyclone dust separator. It will save you lots of vacuum filters. Modify the viewing glass to be able to easily remove it. Get cheap glass cut to size and stop using the plexiglass that comes with it. Have glass on the outside and glass on the inside. Throw away the sticky edge plastic glass protectors. Abd most important, get better lighting. This may be a lot to absorb, but I'll get some pictures to show you how I did mine.

2 pointsThanks Norm. I'll pass that along. She's had the idea for several years now. There are places in our forest that we'd like to set up cabin tents as little get-aways. The new loo would be nice to have out there. It'll first get used for her daughter's wedding here next month then be relegated to the original intended position. I ask about the engine because I understand some Sears used a Tecumseh. I'm fiddling around with one of my '74 C160-8 Tec powered tractors. I cleaned out the carb and put a Facet electric fuel pump on. It'll start and run for a bit then makes some interesting popping and dies out. I'm leaning towards retrofitting a Kohler #30 carb off a C160 to see what happens. Today I'll check the flywheel pin clearance then see about the carb swap.

2 pointsThat looks like all 'rough sawed' lumber, so they're not factory roof trusses. I suspect it was hand built by previous owner, so those horizontal beams help support the roof as Jeff said. You have some collar ties farther up on the rafters, but they look lightweight, and I wouldn't depend on them in a heavy Canadian snow. If you remove them, a heavy snow load could cause the walls to buckle outward and the roof rafters to collapse. Jim

2 pointsInteresting topic. I see that it was mentioned several years ago in this thread but Jack's Wheel Horse in Sarver was where all of my family's equipment came from, whether new or through a PO. Joe (John J.) passed away quite a few years ago but I think his son Ronnie is still around and in charge. They're still open although there was talk of selling everything (car dealership as well) and developing the land. Don't know where that it at the moment but my brother is coming to town next month and I'll be sure to ask. Here in NC, some of what I've recently acquired came out of Mooresville from The Power Outlet (not an old distributor but still in business), formerly Jeff Gordon's Power Outlet...yep, I'm in NC now .
