11 pointsInstalled the missing head light lens and went with orange/amber lamps. I don’t see myself using this one at night ever so why not be a little different.

10 pointsIt’s been at least a few months since I’ve been on the forum and even longer since I’ve been able to work on my wheel horse hobby. However I just got a 416 H toro mode. Yes sadly it has the toro decals on but I’m just glad to have it. I got it with a trade for my suburban and a bit of cash. It’s my first hydro tractor and I really enjoy riding it. Feels like a monster compared to my raider 10 and 12. Also me and my buddy Dylan @857lover where at the wheel horse show. Sadly we didn’t get a chance to walk around and find people we know on the forum but it was awesome. I do want to know who is the guy with the wheel horse motorcycle that thing is awesome. in the picture my 416 H is on the left and Dylan’s is on the right.

8 pointsThanks for all the help and knowledge you guys have gave me on wheel horse tractors and restoring them. I suspect in around a week it will be put together and running. When it is I’ll post a few photos of it.

8 pointsI had this 5/8" bar stock so measured it off and got to forming the highly coveted "U" for the HL-5 Lights. I had these headlights mounted on the hood but never cared for the vibration and eventual cracking of the sheet metal. A tweak here and there decide my height and drill, tap a plate, tap the rod ends

7 pointsSo it has been a very long time since I did a restore. Last was the 416-8 and the C195 several years back. Anyhow I picked up a 417A at the big show from a member here. Chris got it dialed in and running great at the big show (thanks again Chris). Come to find out Kenb also picked up one locally last and he wants to refurbish his as well. So on the 4th we stripped the sheet metal on both machines and dropped them to my sand blaster. Then we pressure washed the machines. Got them back, primed the metal and will bodywork it some and then shoot them.

7 pointsEver watch those things? Customer states: I did my own brakes… Customer states: I hear a grinding noise… Today’s “Customer States” for Pullstart Stables Auto Shop Bonanza? 2010 Honda Oddesey, 3.5L V6, 134,300 miles. Check engine light on. Shop next to their work says misfire in #2. “We get these all the time. You need new heads, the valve seats are coming loose.” It came here for a second opinion. I was skeptical that it needed any head work done. I pulled the intake, injectors, cleaned ‘em, put it back together, changed out $18 a piece spark plugs and there’s your head job. One of the plugs had a broken ceramic and a couple others were just due for a replacin’ I feel good about charging them $400 for a good Ole fashioned tune up and they don’t have to finance a repair bill!
-
7 pointsDo a helicon look with the head in place runs a huge rush of metal shavings in the cylinder. Helicoils definitely work. Pull the head, do the helicoil, decarbon the cylinder and check the valve clearance. Your major maintenance is done for a while
-
7 pointsAlways been my impression with the valve stem at 12 o’clock and fluid to that point is all one needs and adding a little air does soften the ride a bit as well.
-
6 pointsIt’s been at least 5 years for me since I’ve done any kind of refurbishment or restoration. I don’t know what’s rustier, me or my 417! It’s gonna be fun.

6 pointsWhen I met my future wife in 1975, her Dad ran a one man licensed Repair shop out of the 2 car garage at his house. He worked for many years prior for a couple of GM dealerships, specializing i front end work and alignments. When he went on his own, he told my wife's mother "OK, I can either get rich quick, but we may have to move, or I can make an honest living...." A man of scrupples and good honesty, he chose the later. Never regretted it, neither did we....

6 pointsGot some seat time on the 175 this morning hauling scrap wood to the burn pile. Even used my Wheel Horse cart. I haven't done anything to it since the day I brought it home with the 656.

6 pointsInstall a marine primer bulb in the fuel line. The fuel pump is probably losing it's prime. A couple squeezes will prime the fuel pump and carb making for an easy start.
-
5 points^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Have to agree here. Pull the head. Very simple on a flat head. There is an old mechanics trick of getting a powerful Shop-Vac and putting it on leaf blow setting and taping that to the exhaust. It's been known to work but where these things are so simple I just wouldn't do it. Pull the head. 10 bolts. It's done.

5 pointsFuel pump may be getting worn out. When the valves get leaky, fuel all drains back into the tank when it sits, then have to crank a long time to pump it back up to the carb. Or with starting fluid, once you have it running the pump works much faster. Inline priming bulb might work for you, or some folks like an inline electric pump.

5 pointsThanks men. No worries. I had a growth removed from each side of the back of my neck. One under skin. One just a skin tag on the surface. Under skin one has 7 internal stitches and a coat of super glue over it. I'm restricted to smaller movements and no heavy lifting for a few days. I feel quite a bit better just 24 hours later.

5 pointsNot a question for finding non-e gas around here Richard..... it's paying for it!

-
5 pointsThe recent high winds blew a couple dead trees over into the farmers field. I usually don't cut firewood in the summer, but I cleaned them up so he could finish planting.
-
5 pointsI like leaving a little room in the tire for the fluid to slosh around. When you hit that snow bank that sloshing gives you an extra little push.

4 pointsmy great grandfather purchased all of these wheel horse things back in the late 69, and early 70’s Back in 2011. My family had an auction in North Carolina and had to sell my grandfathers wheel horse GT-14 tractors (2) and a tiller and two mower decks. Anyway, it made me sick and fast forward to now, I found out who bought them through auction papers and contacted the man and he sold them BUT! he is going to talk to the man who he sold them to and hopefully he still has them it would make my entire year being able to get the two tractors back, plus the tiller Here is some photos of the tractors from the auction. You can see the tiller in the back the utility wagon was also in the auction but was bought by my neighbor and long story short now my friend owns it, and I’m trying to get it back as well fingers crossed that the man who the guy sold it to still has them

4 pointsYou really, really dont need a head!! Just get a helicoil set and pull your head, its really, really simple -- and WAY cheaper that those prices! A helicoil set and head gasket should be less than $30 on the bay.....
-
4 pointsIt's a better feeling to sleep with a clear conscience IMO! Some would rather sleep with a few dishonest dollars instead. There are much better rewards in life than money
-
4 pointsThey're not the same as any other Kohler Engine head because they have 10 bolts which is more than the rest. I wouldn't touch one of those for anything like $213 much less $284. Right place and right time you can get a whole engine for a 300, 400.

4 pointsMy Tundra and 4Runner were 125,000 mile timing belt engines. I asked my Toyota guy how far would be pushing it. He said 175,000 and the water pump would probably be leaking before that. So I had them done at 125. 4Runner frame was rotted last year but the 4.7 was bought for another truck. I traded the Tundra in a 250,000 3 years ago right after I put the 2nd belt and pump in. I saw it in the Lowes parking lot 2 days ago.

4 pointsBack in my teenage years, I turned wrenches on a neighborhood short track stock car. We had a guy locally working out of his 2 car garage at home that would buy up body on frame Chevies and gut them, weld in a roll cage, cut the fenders, and replace the right front spindle assembly with a race approved one. He sold them as rollers - complete minus the engine & transmission. We even bought one... Fast forward about 4 years, he got busted by zoning for running an illegal Garage business out of his residence- he bought a closed Citgo gas station near the highway and set up shop there. I stopped in one day to chat - he had a 65 Impala in there that they had to replace 4 bent pushrods on. I asked how he figured his labor cost - did he use the Flat Rate Manual?? He said "No, I don't. I fugure in the cost of parts and labor to give them an estimate. When I give them the price, if they don't flinch or complain, I say PLUS LABOR." A colorful character, for sure...

4 points@ebinmaine, how much time do you spend on You Tube? Seems like you come up with some good ones and lord only knows that most videos on you Tube are a waste of time. Water "shooting six feet in the air" tells me he had 3 PSI on the air that was in the tire. I don't like putting fluid in a tubeless tire but to each their own.
-
4 pointsI've wondered the same thing. You'd be able to tell by the amount of fluid volume you install.
-
4 pointsI’ll give him that… he did find a way to get it completely full. I’ll keep the plugs for repairs though, not a process…. They way I see it, my fluid (85-95%)filled tires do a dandy job even if there is some air in ‘em. Tubing them and starting from a new tube though, I wonder how much air really is inside.
-
4 pointsI fully understand @ebinmaine's story. Mine is from the other side. Several of you know that my niece and nephew asked me to help them find a solid, reliable mower for their acre in New Jersey (they recently moved from west Texas with their four children and finances are tight). I found one, went through it to be sure all was well and readied it for delivery. Today, with a lot of hours behind the wheel being closely followed by a red tractor and then an empty trailer, I delivered it as a gift to them. They were kinda stunned. Gave some basic lessons in starting and operating, went through the original manuals that I got with it, impressed on them the importance of safe usage and regular maintence, and left them mowing the lawn. I'm tired but very happy.

4 pointsStill putting in some woods cruising time for engine break in after the rebuild on the k241...the brick red patina of the C100 is growing on me...the red goes well with the green woods...

4 pointsPhotos don’t really capture the magnitude of the beauty in this place. We were years ago also at the Sequoia National Forest which is right next to Yosemite. We spent a lot of time wondering through the several sequoia groves. It is a humbling experience being next to something that has lived for up to three thousands years and are basically the only ones that survive all the fires as evidenced by their scars and all the dead fallen enormous pines. Some of those fallen pines on photos are over 4 feet in diameter. Thinking and realizing that humans almost cut them to extinction is a sobering and awakening thought of what kind of ignorant and reckless beings we are but fortunately there were enough of us with the common sense and fortitude to stop and preserve these irreplaceable giants.

3 pointsIf you end up needing to do the fuel pump replacement, it's not very difficult. Here is a picture of one I did. Not the most optimal or attractive location, but it works. You might need to buy some 1/4" fuel line depending on how you re-route the lines. Good idea to replace the lines all the way to the tank, filter(s) (I put one back near the tank and another up front), and maybe the shutoff valve & grommet at the tank while you're at it. I don't remember if you said you were getting fuel through the line all the way to the carb, but I've seen shutoff valves go bad and not open too...

3 pointsOne of the most common causes of fuel system problems is E-10 Ethanol added gas. There have been lots of threads on here about the problems E-10 can cause. I would suggest that you only use non ethanol gas in any small engine. Adding some Seafoam as @WHX?? suggested is a great help too. To find a station that sells non ethanol gas use this site. https://www.pure-gas.org/

3 points95% full is ok in my mind also .... Also why put a hole in a perfectly good tire.....Would you cut a hole in a new roof to install a skylight?
