Hi all. In these times of ultra political correctness and diversity I miss my pin up calendar girls. You know, the kind of cheesecake thing the Snap On dealer gave out. Looks like Mrs. Whitts has responded to my plight. This is her and her buddies on their holiday to mallorca. They found this lump of plant during a cultural exchange stroll and couldn't resist a photo opportunity. She tells me they had not been drinking but I suspect I may be getting only a hint of the truth.

Wife and I are in Burlington Vt, came upon this bar/club in town. Asked about T-shirts…all they had was a 2XL, to big for me but bought it anyway. I’ll wash it in hot and dry it hot and maybe it’ll shrink down some

So my friend came upon this D200 opportunity from an old farmer clearing out his barn. He had a few garden tractors he had finally cleared a way to get out from the back of his barn/shop and a D200 was in the lot. So we made the two hour drive and after a good talk and history on this rig it was on the trailer! This is my friends rig and I will be assisting with the save project. He is the third owner, guy we bought it from got is from his brother in law who bought it new. It's been kept inside it's entire life and judging by the paint condition it would be hard to argue that. Story is he parked it about ten years ago and got a zero turn so this was basically retired from mowing duty. Claims it was in normal working order when parked. So package is the D200 with 48" mower deck and a Wheel Horse mid-mount grader blade. The grader blade I'm pretty sure is not for a D series but I'm not sure yet as it may hook up to it. But it seems like the C series grader blade to me offhand. Total package was $450. That seems like a solid deal for our parts in Oklahoma as this is the first complete D series tractor that's even came up in around 2 years of us keeping an eye out. Plan is to get this cleaned up and back to regular user duty. I'll post updates here as we make progress on it. I think this will clean up real nice! Here's a few pics. Last one is next to his 417-A for size comparison. I was surprised at how much bigger the D series are compared to the regular size WH tractors.

I like the simplicity of the C-series, the don’t have all that complicated wiring of the 3,4,and 500 series tractors. Here’s a few of mine.

I was asked on the whetstone thread to demonstrate on how I sharpen a pocket knife. It’s a basic skill that everyone should learn . It is easy and quick. Of course the more experienced you are at it the quicker it is all steps becoming second nature and routine. This method applies also to full size kitchen knives or any other knife. Too many times I have seen people take knives to be sharpened to be charged a small fortune for them to ruin their knives. First step is to establish the bevels eliminating any dents or imperfections on edge. I do this with a file. I NEVER take a knife to an electric grinder. It can be done better and quicker with a file without any danger of ruining knife’s temper and having a crooked edge. Simply using a piece of scrap wood rest back of knife on it maintaining at an angle. The angle is pretty much the angle of desired edge bevel. File at a oblique angle to knife’s edge. Remember file only cuts in forward motion. Lift it to bring it back. File until you have an even bevel front to back. Now turn bevel away from you and do same on other side. Grab file on its tip and draw it towards you for this side since you can’t do this side by holding file’s handle. Knife is now ready to take to whetstone. For small knives I use edge of stone. Cover stone with lubricant. From file I go right to a fine stone, in this case a Translucent Arkansas .Hone edges at an oblique angle to stone alternating the two sides maintaining a constant angle . a good way to know if you are being successful is to try and drag knife’s edge on your nail. If it catches on your mail at a low angle it is sharp. If it slips it is dull. Most would stop here and consider it sharp which it is. I like to take it to another level. It only takes another minute or so. Use a strop. It polishes and refines edge to perfection. If you do not have a strop you can make your pants on your thigh be one. Trust me, it works. When you strop you run edge away from strop not towards it. Or You should now have a beautifully polished edge. The ultimate test. Or

Wow, no big wheel fans, or haven’t you had the chance yet? Heavier frame, front end, transmission mount, hydro lift, cast iron nose, simple Kohler engine, bigger fuel tanks, high ground clearance, etc…

Jeff is spot on as far as being basically the same tractor over the years. I could take the sheet metal off the 76 I purchased new off and do the same with the 2005 I purchased in 2009 and they are the same. But ya gotta ignore the wiring differences that came about to protect the innocent. Holds very true for attachment interchange as well. The 76 has the 42" deck that came with the 05 and the 70's 48" deck is on the 05 now. .

@stevasaurus @Racinbob @dclarke We may have a record broken hub here folks! Nice one. Place an ad here on Redsquare. Also contact Lincoln at A to Z Tractor in PA by PHONE. I highlight that because I personally have an easier time contacting Lincoln by using my voice. More stuff broken....? Maybe? Doesn't matter really. The parts are out there. One just needs to know where to go poking around. Lowell and Joette at Wheelhorse Parts and More have all the gaskets bearings seals. Follow Steve's transmission videos and you'll have a neat little adventure in transmission repair. At minimum you'll need: One axle. One hub. Case gasket. All four seals. Shifter boot. New set screws for both hubs. Upon disassembly and thorough cleaning, carefully inspect every bearing. Particular attention paid to the inner and outer axle bearings.

I think all 's are mighty tuff. True for pure power a C-160 is great, but those square hood 8hp's are good too. I've used them for snow plowing, blowing snow and mowing. They are very maneuverable, and sip fuel. So in their own right, they are a tuff tractor. You just can't go wrong with just about any .

A trip to the big show is in order. There will be a pile of transmissions there. Replace the trans, get a hub, fix that broken one at your leisure.

Ya know, for a large part, they're substantially the same machines with different engines. (within the same time frame at least...) For example, I could pull the 17 hp engine from my c175 and install a 14 hp kohler and it would be a c145. Many many parts are interchangeable. Many of the answers you get are going to be personal opinion

Most of you probably remember my old 81 C30 Camper Special I bought from an impound sale last year for $500. Been using it as my welding and service truck ever since, and it served me quite well, but last Sunday afternoon she left me stranded in the middle of a cow pasture in 114 degree heat, pretty sure head gasket went but haven't gotten to diagnose it yet as I just got it home today. Everyone has been telling me for sometime now that I needed to upgrade to a newer truck, so yesterday I did just that. After a couple hours of negotiations between me, my banker, and one of the local used car dealers we are now the proud owners of a 2004 Ford F350. Nothing fancy, just your basic no options work truck, which is all I really needed and wanted anyway, I never have been big on all the options, though I do wish it had cruise control, but everything else I can easily live without. Truck is just a 2 wheel drive, would have rather had 4x4 but it will work, and is equipped with the 6.0L PowerStroke Diesel and auto behind it. Here is the old 81 And here is the new F350 after we got home last night

It's very important that when a guy is working on a horse that he drink from his RedSquare cup courtesy of @19richie66. It's just water for now since it's about a million degrees outside today, but you can put in the adult beverage of your choice! Wish me luck on the steering wheel! Gotta try and get it off so I can replace the destroyed dash.

I seldom have to sharpen mine. I usually lose them long before they get dull. Needless to say dad's pocket knife is locked away and I have been sentenced to 10 dollar cheapys.
  26. 4 points
And let us not forget the D series either - 900 plus pounds of tractor. Dad bought a 2 year old used D250 before he passed. It came with a 60 inch deck and a FEL - what an awesome 4 cylinder water cooled beast. Bill

Need to keep them as a remembrance of your grandfather, may not seem important today but will bring back memories in the future.

I got it off, I dinged the steering wheel up a little bit, bit I can live with it. The key is rusted tight in the steering shaft though. I'm thinking about grinding it off and just relying on the roll pin to turn the steering wheel. The older tractors just have the pin so I figure it should work here too.

Yep, no amount of JB Weld is going to fix that. A couple of suggestions - get two new hubs, but not the starfish style like the broken one. My 854 came with 1 inch round hubs - much stronger. I also add another setscrew 90 degrees to the original - locate the hub flush with the axle shaft and secure it with the original screw over the key. remove the new screw and use a 5/16" drill bit to "dimple" the shaft - this gives the second screw a slight recess to bite into and the burr it raises will not interfere with hub removal in the future. Judging by the chains on the tires, I assume this happened while plowing - check the frame plate where the Unidrive bolts on for cracks when you remove the transmission - hope it does not look like this one... strap in, enjoy the ride...

My 856 " Forsaken " project is nearing completion. Mounted new 6-12 tires on the back set of wheels and put tubes in all 4. Painted the wheels. The original wheels desinergrated from sitting outside in the dirt for many years. Engine is running need to finish wiring the head lights and changing the fluid in the tranny.

I happened to see this jewel sitting out by the road...Surprise, surprise! I stopped and had a look see and chatted with the owner for a bit and doing my very best not to let him know I had only been looking for an original condition 78-79 C-161 hydro with the hydraulic lift and sleeve hitch for 10 years or more. I thanked the the gentleman for his time and said I would think it ovr, took his phone number and continued to head home. I jumped onto east 101, a 4-lane limited access highway in Manchester NH and quickly accelerated to 75+ to keep from getting mowed over by traffic and I noticed these strange lights gaining on me fast in the rear view (My other half doesn't believe me). When I looked again this little yard tractor was about 5 feet from my rear bumper with a bright blue flame shooting out of the red-hot muffler glowing in the front grill, I sped up to 85+ and it hung with me for the entire one-hour drive home. When I parked in my driveway, the beast pulled up to my side door and began revving its power plant and crackling loudly. It acted hungry, so being the humanitarian type, I fed it some high-octane food and she settled down beside the storage (hoarding) building and went to sleep. I decided to take it nder my wing and get 'er back on solid footing with some counseling, a warm bed and made a doctors appointment for the following day to have it checked over. No one believes this mysterious encounter, but it happened, and I have the a picture or two for evidence! The doctor gave it a good checkup and gave me a couple of scripts and let him know the following week on her condition. Doc said it was in great shape internally but needed a good bat and maybe some skin cream. The Machine, named "tag-a-long" runs as new and the only issue is a rear axle seal weeping and tired engine mounts. Not sure if I feel like giving it some skin cream yet, would you? Or should I leave it in its current clothes? It has been stored inside a garage since new and everything is well greased and lubed. It also came with a decent 42" RD mower that is fairly solid. So, without further convincing, here are the picture s that I entered into evidence. wh2-Edit-Edit.tif

Ok, looks like I’m finally getting to come back to the big show! I’ll have to get some pics, hoping to post Monday night. I’m looking to sell a few tractors. Right now I have a C195 - a little rough & needs love, but hydro works, 3 point works, good down pressure. I have a 312 with around 500 hours, but is faded from sitting out and needs a seat. I have a GT14 tiller, and am thinking of selling a few others. I’ll post pics and prices sometime Monday evening. It’s just good to be back!

Some places offer steep discounts on "out of date" batteries. When I worked at Advance we offered 70% off on batteries over 18 months old, and I could apply speed perks coupons to the remaining 30% (so $20 off the 30%). Every year I would buy two Optima Marine batteries for the trolling motor for about $25-50 a piece, depending on the size and rating.

Excellent... But...I love the look of wood but I would go with metal siding. A mouse can't even get in my garage, and "no" maintenance. I put wood siding on my house and can't keep carpenter bees out...

These folks are good listeners, are enthusiastic about good ideas (regardless of source), frequently have dirty hands, and may have hearing loss from hanging out in the production areas for too many years without ear protection. I also find that their hobbies often involve building or fixing things.

In all seriousness... Don't let ANYTHING bug you about these machines. Nothing is unrepairable. Parts are readily available. Knowledge, the same. If it's broke. No worries. Replace it.

After tightening the bolt/towing valve the tractor is moving properly. It still has some twitchyness in the throttle control and I'll need a bit more time messing with that to make it work properly. Then I greased where ever I could and went to mow the lawn. I was disappointed that while the grass that I just passed over did not look very cut. Shut it all down and got under the deck to find that the blades are on backwards! I got another job for tomorrow now.

Most likely that engine is from a power unit or tractor , Toyota has been around a long time but kept very good records the engine code will tell you everything you need to know, I know Generac used 1.2 liter 3 cyl Nissan engines in there 16 kw and up generators in the 90s ,that had it also had a bad water pump when I got that Generac , Generac wanted 260.00 dollars for a new water pump. after a little research I found that engine was used in a Canadian Nissan car called the Mica got the water pump for $ 28.00 from a Canadian auto Parts store off Ebay. cool find enjoy it
