Hi everyone. I figured it's about time I formally introduce myself. I've been a member here for a few years but just never felt I had much to add to the absolute wealth of knowledge here. Thanks to all who make this community so special. I just recently finished a project that I started over COVID . I had to stop and restart several times because life has a way of getting in the way sometimes and like a lot of my projects this one suffered from mission creep as I decided to do more than I originally planned. But I'm finally finished. It's a C120 8 speed. I started with a craiglist special that started and ran but was very smokey. I replaced the piston, rings, and valves and put a new carb on it. Not satisfied with the appearance, I tore it all apart and sanded down to bare metal, primed and painted it. I've been around Wheel Horses since I was a kid and I have a C121 that I use to mow, plow snow, and rototill but I've never done anything quite this extensive. I couldn't have done this project without this community. So a big thank you is in order. I learned a lot over the course of this project and really enjoyed it. It's actually kind of therapeutic after spending all day long staring at my computer screens doing CAD work. Here are before and after photos. Kevin

My buddy Jay needed a tractor pretty quickly. His Huskvarna blew a head gasket and is barely alive. He liked how tough my Wheel Horses are and I told him I would be on the look out for a suitable machine. Bob Ellison recently put up two and I had not seen anything that looked this good in this price range. I told him that we had the money cash in hand and that if my buddy did not have quite enough that i would cover the rest. i also offered to send a down payment to hold the tractor. We had a messy eviction that was just disgusting , so Bob graciously worked with us until we could get up there. What a nice guy he is. Then i found out that he is the seat guy and the tractor came with one of his seats. It was a seat that the impressions did not meet his high standards for his customers., so he called it his own seat. I enjoyed his company so much that it was a bit difficult to make sure that all the stuff like the mule drive and the deck was all there. After all, we were 175 miles from Deploraville , Ohio. he took the time to explain how he made the two piece seat upholstery with top of the line foam and marine grade vinyl. It makes me wish I had bought one when they were still available. Ok, so the tractor has a 48 inch deck that Jay has already patched a bit and given a coat of Hammerite. He bought a decent amount of the stuff at auction, and it is good paint even though the color is a bit off. Bob threw in a second deck that is a 42" but has a different pulley system that i am not familiar with. He also had two extra tires holding air on rear wheels for a 520. plus, we took a few other tires for some of my junk. We had a few Wheel Horse stories and i mentioned my daughter had landed a job at Umich and her studies there that enabled me with the help of my daughter in Ann Arbor to trade a Briggs motor for a Kohler in a grocery store parking lot from the trunk of a Buick lesabre. Then Bob told me how proud he was that his grandson was just entering the military. Then my buddy Jay and Bob talked about the Navy since they are both navy vets. We are missing the clutch engagement handle, the push rod, trunion nut, and interior clutch mount. They just never were on the tractor that Bob never had a mower mounted to, so it was overlooked at the time of sale. Jay probably can make them off my spare parts robbed from another of my tractors for a pattern. We will get to the pictures and process later. For now, I just wanted to mention our appreciation that Bob Ellison is such a gentleman. The fact he wanted his tractors to be used and not just flipped and sold will certainly be fulfilled in this case. The fact the Jay has his first Wheel Horse as a C-160 auto is just icing on the cake.

Got the dash plate made and added the remote choke, throttle, and kill switch.

Made the dash plate for the custom, mowed a couple yards, then took a beer break and watched the neighbor finish the cantaloupe planting.

Yes it was very nice to sell my c160s to some wheelhorse people. @ohiofarmer and Jay are nice guys. I really felt bad about it not having the pto handle or rod but I never noticed them missing. If anyone has parts they would like to send to ohiofarmer for Jay I would be happy to pay for them. I also sold my plow tractor to @Rob J. I'm sure he'll use it plowing snow here in Michigan.

Awesome story! Bob is a great person! I too have one of his “customized” seats that weren’t destined to be sold. He sent it to me for free! I’ll be proud to display this one next week!

New compartments? What new compartments? Decided to instead blend them in so as to keep chests dignity. A list of all changes or additions will be inside of it for future generations.

Hello All, I have a C160-8 that ended up with a hydro drive pulley somewhere in its past or a complete 16 out of a hydro. Well... I have a C160 Hydro with a knocking wreck of a motor and decided to pull this engine out to put in the hydro and swap a Mag 16 into the C160 at a friend's request. He wanted a C160 but doesn't like the K versus the Mag. In the past I've swapped Mags into Bs but the exhaust / muffler is too big and hood wouldn't shut. It was a pleasant surprise to see a Mag fit like a glove into a C! I'll have to measure but it's almost obvious the C hood is taller than the B. The 416-8 donor tractor was / is completly beat... the 2nd interesting event was that all I did was connect a battery, jam the fuel line into a can of fresh fuel and tickle it with carb clean. It started and runs great... been sitting for YEARS See you at show!! Tony 20220614_111050.mp4 20220614_111050.mp4

Much appreciated coming from the Hammer Guru...thanks John. Leg room is limited and rounding the back corners of the hood really did help. The long leggers will have to ride on the tailgate, but me 5'8" and Mrs K 5'3" fit up front just fine. I really didn't plan to build this in time for this years show, but when I got an offer on the low rider dragster that I couldn't refuse, I stepped up the pace to build this one. I usually reserve April, May, and June for trout fishing, turkey hunting ,and lawn mowing, with 3-4 tractor shows mixed in. So all this extra work is getting old. As soon as the Big Show is over, I'll be ready for a two week vacation of crabbing on the Delaware Bay.

Hey folks, sorry I haven't been able to get on in a bit. So busy with work. When is the show at Owls Head Museum? I'd like to try and make it. I'm hoping to bring a couple new tractors that I just bought. A couple RJ,s. Gotta go to PA to pickup one, other 2 are being delivered from Maryland.

Who knew that we have such good people here...except for the fact that we see it pretty often. How many times has someone said "yeah, I've got what you need, give me your address and I'll send it to you". Makes me proud to be a support member of this site....

The 520HC is my favorite so far. I will put the 312H to work and see how it does. I am sure I will appreciate the Kohler 12HP fuel useage compared to the Onan 20HP.

I have about 2/3 of the stuff in the truck cab that will go there, also started loading the bed of the truck. Need to finish the packing this weekend so I can do family stuff Monday and Tuesday. My wife's birthday is Wednesday so her sister is visiting and we will do the birthday cake on Tuesday. That way I can hit the road early Wednesday and see you for dinner at the Italian Village Restaurant. With inflation being what it is the price of birthday candles has gone sky high and as old as we are getting we're needing more and more candles.

I bought Bob’s other tractor. Luckily for you I didn’t take both of them home. 😂 I did try and steal your seat though but Bob wouldn’t have any part of it.

Bob, I love the tractor! I’ve put those wheel weights on the 160 and yes it will be my snow hog. Thank you very much!

One will essentially be able to work just out of second lid due to all of the tools now in it. However it did make the lid too heavy to lift and lower safely without any provisions for that. Empty it is already a bit difficult to grab properly. Had to introduce a small handle to help with it which works really well without being too obvious. Will oxidize it a little more to make it look more like it has always been there. At sometime in its life box body was stained quite a bit darker . Most were actually painted. I believe it may have been done after it came out of originals owners hands. Back is still dark but strangely enough there are no signs of rest of box have been stained and stripped. There are “rub off “ marks on back from fingers. Quite possibly also that someone started on back and did not like the looks and left it that way. Box has always been used against a wall to hold lids since there are no signs of provisions for a chain or anything like it that would hold lids and aging on back substantiates how it placed during its life. Blended in lid stop to match aging on back.

There is no real difference between Hydro Transaxles and gear drives (just fewer gears shafts.) Keep the closed end bearings flush with outside of case. You don't want teh shaft ends rubbing on the the bearing end cap..

Don't forget to pay the capital gains tax if you sell it, otherwise the IRS will be right out to use one of those on you.

Obviously this is the connecting spring for the rear cylinder of a twin cylinder Kohler variable compression engine, the front one would be counter-clockwise.

Hello everyone, If anyone in Connecticut has an RJ or maybe a similar rounded hood WheelHorse and want to allow a photographer take pictures of it please contact me. I’ve been talking with her and told her I could ask here on the club. Here is her request Hello everyone! I’m throwing this out there after a recommendation from one of the other CT tractor pull groups. Looking for a smaller sized antique tractor to rent (or borrow in exchange for photoshoot, etc). I am a photographer in central Connecticut who custom designs an indoor Christmas scene each year for our clients for multiple dates in November and I love to be as authentic as possible. Does not need to run but does need to be red (lol). I think the Farmalls are just a little bit too big (we know someone with one) but looking for something like a 1958 Wheelhorse RJ58 for size/style. Please reach out if you have any suggestions! Thank you!

Oh no no. Quite the opposite in fact. In "dog body language" to turn it's back towards you is showing complete trust and respect.

Bought the tractor - finally got over there when the guy was home. He was happy to get $50 for it. I jumper cables on it and the starter spun but the gear didn't kick out to engage with the flywheel, but the engine is not seized. I didn't have time to load it tonight but it's only about a mile away so I'll get over there within the next few days. Will probably put this aside as a winter project, but I'm likely to be tempted to mess with it after I get 2 other tractors rolling again.

Put all new tires on and cleaned up my 416H a little bit. Used the card method to paint rims. Worked well overall although putting the cards on the rear rims was tougher as the slightest wind blew them over. On the front, they were very secure and stood more upright. Which is why I taped the front tires and painted the rears by the doors of the shed to avoid fumes. This machine is prob not going to be used much mowing anymore which is why I went with black rims.
