10 pointsIn middle school I took an elective class, fly tying. I practiced casting religiously for years but never went. Today, I used a couple flys that I tied about 24 years ago and went fishing. Water temp 62, barefoot on mostly rocks. My feet are pretty raw feeling (once they regained feeling) but I had a blast! Hooked and landed two monster minnows and my guide (Mrs. P’s coworker) landed a little brown also. So. Much. Fun!

9 pointsAnother tree fell just brushing the house. Only bent the spouting a little bit. I had other things to do so I didn't clean it up right away. Then the help came and 2 days later I had less to clean up...

8 pointsI've been very lucky over the last (5?) years to find or be gifted (thanks again @Docwheelhorse ) a total of four C160s. Two of the ones I have are the 1974 model year with the reportedly rare Tecumseh OVH160 engine. One is a future project mentioned above, from Tony. The other, the subject of this thread, is literally a "Barn find" in the truest form. It was part of an estate (with 3 other Wheelhorses) from Port Clyde Maine. It was setting in a garage bay ... Buried ... Like REALLY buried... By paperwork, boat parts, seat cushions, boat gas tanks, etc... The widow I got it from did NOT know she owned it. That garage bay hadn't been accessed in a long time. Set this to thought for a second. The garage could be opened. The tractor was about a foot from the door. And there was such a stack of ... Items... The tractor could not be seen. WOW. I made a video showing the beast. Here're some stills. I'll be using the "New to the herd" list we put together to literally ✅ off things to be looked at, replaced, repaired etc.

8 pointsPicked up 2 c195s. One runs drives and mows, the other is just parts. Came with a 42” recycler deck, 48” plow, and a set of front wheel weights! Big plans for the parts one too!!

7 pointsI've got this bluebird that's been hanging out on the storm door, can't figure out why he's been there for 2 days now. I'm not sure if he's after his reflection or maybe bugs but it doesn't seem like the bugs would be there that long, so that he'd been there for this amount of time.

6 pointsJune 6, 2022 is the 78th Anniversary of the D Day invasion that turned the tide of World War Two. Never forget the sacrifices that these brave veterans made to ensure the freedom of people all over the world. German solders also died in an attempt to carry out the wishes of Adolph Hitler. During the Battle of Normandy over 425,000 Allied and German troops were killed, wounded or went missing. This figure includes around 210,000 Allied casualties, with nearly 37,000 killed amongst the ground forces and a further 16,000 deaths amongst the Allied air forces.

6 pointsNow that my kitchen is done I can start working on the 1045 again. So today I attacked the rear hubs. The hubs were shot. The wheels were swinging back and forth on the axle but surprisingly the slot in the axle was in good shape. I had a set of hubs on the shelf so I put those on and before I did that I put studs in, so I could use lug nuts instead of just the studs like it originally came with. Obviously the tractor needs a lot of cleaning up but that will come after I work all the rest of the bugs out of it.

5 pointsFun stuff, I had a snow plow on my 8hp and then later picked up a C160 for a snow blower. I put mower decks on both. Honestly, the 8hp mows like a champ and plowed anything I asked of her. But......the 160 is a smooth beast and wouldn't want to be in her way. Both are a joy...overkill but I think I'll keep both.

5 pointsThis morning I refitted the finger bar, sickle bar to you lads States side, to the C-81 now it's trans' is fixed. Everything was working fine so decided to have a go at an overgrown section of the bridleway. One pass down then back up. That was then Murphy decided to put a spoke in. The finger bar came loose on the gearbox. Only one bolt was stopping it from falling off completely. And yes! I had tightened them. OK then! I'll fit new bolts and this time I'll remember to use thread locker. Murphy struck again. I was rather short on imperial bolts of the correct size. So paid a visit to the local smithy. I wasn't holding out much hope, but in old stock the required bolts were obtained. Put everything back together, this time using thread locker. So lets have another test. That Murphy was having a field day. Tractor wouldn't start. Flat battery. I had left the ignition on. Battery now on charge, but things will have to wait till Wednesday

4 pointsMongo, re-powered with a Magnum 18 I picked up. I originally got this C-175 machine just for the KT17 to repower my wife's C-175 Hydro. I didn't have the magnum yet or I would have used it in the hydro. This tractor was rough when I got it, but the engine ran. I had the magnum 18 engine kicking around in my garage and I figured the 2 pieces together took up less room... I put an electric PTO with a soft start module and an electric lift on it. I used a relay to convert the points ignition wiring to magneto ignition. It also has a tall chute blower that I got just after the last snow last winter Mongo really is a beast! When you hit that wet pile at the end of the driveway it just roars with power

4 pointsJust for a reference how hard it is to get a smooth running Kohler in Belgium. I have the M16 that came of Amy, a dude wants to trade his "running and driving" commando 7 for just my engine. People are taking off Kohler's from perfectly working Wheel Horse, just to put it on the shelf, in case theirs blows. The tractor with a 14hp I recently bought and sold was planned to have the engine pulled, I got their in time to save it an is now with his new owners.

4 pointsThank you so much. My wife got me a vise ( i picked it out) first time ever had a brand new vise. Grand kids showed up with a carrot cake and apple fritters. They're awesome!

4 pointsPicked this up at an estate auction in central Alabama this past weekend. It’s a 1989, 312-8 with 348 hours on the meter. It’s not running. It came with two 42” rear discharge decks ( one is a recycler ) and one 42” side discharge deck. Two of the decks show little to no use. Also got a solid WH dump cart ( square ) with it.

4 pointsBluebirds are strange creatures. We have bluebird boxes and for year we had lots of beautiful bluebirds. But this year, despite all of my efforts, house sparrow have run them out and taken over the boxes. I don't know why your bluebird is hanging around, but my neighbor behind me has a Baltimore Oriole that sits on her window sill tapping on the glass all day long. You can't figure out nature no matter how you try.

4 pointsI mow a third of an acre. I love the hydro for mowing on the C-160 but the little 857 saves a quart of gas each time and turns sharper. Plus the gear drive deck makes a pristine cut!

3 pointsI got jealous of @Stormin visiting all these classic shows. We have been hauling vehicles up to Shetland all week so decided to head up to the showgrounds today for a look. A surprisingly large turnout of vehicles, and one lonesome wherlhorse - no sign of the owner though. The blue car is apparently worth several million. It's like a fighter plane without wings - it came on the ship tonight and the sound was awesome!

3 pointsFinished up the new roof on the magic shed. Of course, the neighbor had to come by and heckle, and get a close up of the Senior.

3 pointsI have: 1. Cleaned out the boxes as they start to build; 2. Sprayed a bleach solution in the box to get rid of their scent; 3. Hung reflective mylar strips over the boxes; 4. Placed blue ribbon near the boxes to attract more Bluebirds; 5. Hung mealworm feeders near the boxes. All to no avail. I'm not a hunter and I don't like killing birds just because they are invasive. It's not their fault they they were introduced into this country. All creatures (with the exception of poisonous snake and spiders) deserve a chance to live.

3 points20 years ago, I would be 100% in agreement about US made engines. I think it sucks that very few now are still made here. The few that are no longer can handle the loads placed on them by these old tractors. Quite a shame! ...And nothing wrong with old school. We could all benefit from the old school!
-
3 pointsMaybe that's what that bluebird was telling me to get out there and kick that sparrow out of its box

3 pointsI keep a Rinne trap in my storage shed for this exact reason. Try to get them before they get into my equipment. They can't resist peanut butter and sunflower seeds. For winter ops, I use RV anti freeze fluid so the liquid doesn't freeze. https://www.rinnetraps.com/ https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08SL6KJ29/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

3 pointsI have a complete C-160 rear end I'd give ya if I had a way to get it to you. I feel bad about you shop misfortunes.

3 pointsWe're hoping it'll keep them out for the most part. We have a fair amount of them around here but they're all so very well fed in the wild and even the neighbors with no fencing at all don't have very many problems. I'm probably also going to hang mylar strips from some slightly taller sticks. Another thing I was reading about just yesterday is to put a twist in the mylar because it has a very particular buzzing and rattling sound in the wind that most wild animals are not at all fond of. It'll be a learning process for sure. Like Trina says, it'll either work or it won't. 😀

3 pointsIn “deerish” that fence reads: “Eb’s and BBT’s Eats - Good Food and Better Times”… Looks great! Hope it has good yields!!!

3 pointsThank you all for the welcome. I am going to try to come to the show this month. I have 2 417's a 85 hydro and 86 8 speed and I use them full time. As for me I am one of those retired folks.

3 points1960 Suburban with a 6.5hp Predator swap. 1 - Throw the gas tank away that came with the engine. The tractor already has a gas tank so I used that one. 2 - Also removed the the supplied air cleaner and threw it away. Added a free flow pod filter in it's place. 3 - Threw the supplied engine exhaust away and made a custom exhaust. 4 - Drilled the main jet out on the carb to compensate for the free flow air cleaner & exhaust. NOTE : The above alterations to the engine kept me from having to alter the sheet metal on the tractor. 5 - Mounting holes for the engine to the frame were a direct fit. 6 - Made a new belt guard. 7 - Hooked the stock throttle cable from the tractor to the supplied mounts on the new engine.

3 pointsNext weekend will be having a friend coming up from Mass to stay over. Might as well introduce him to the world of Wheel Horse tractors. I will spoil him right out of the gate with a couple of 400 series twins. Cleaned up these two this morning and they are ready to roll. After that excitement it will be on to some target shooting, a long trail walk and get the grille going and hang out in the cabin for the night with the gas lights burning. Hoping to have a great time as he was born and brought up in Northern Maine and is not a big fan of where he is working and living currently.

3 pointsFunny @SylvanLakeWH, I’ll need to read up on the C-6.5 build soon! Putt Putt Build link here is a 502 with a Kohler K-181 off of an air compressor. It’s nearly a direct swap from the Tecky engine, but the belt guard is a tad different for engine hole location. Frank Engine install of build begins here is a Kohler K-241 powered round hood. It took extensive frame and steering modifications to make it work. Poppy is a 552 with a mixup Kohler. Engine install of build here It’s a K-161 engine with a K-181 C series side plate, stator, flywheel and starter. That little project here Joe the 1054 Came to me with a 5.5 hp snowblower engine on him. I made him scream bloody murder at plow day and he hasn’t run since. I wouldn’t recommend this repower but it was fun while it lasted. Freedom the Snowmotractor has a little bit of an extreme engine swap. It’s got a 440cc Polaris snowmobile engine. Jane the Commando 6 Has it’s original Tecky BUT! It has a Kohler carburetor and runs wonderfully!

3 pointsI alternate between a 308-8 with a 36” deck, a 315-8 with a 42” deck and my GT-3000 with a 46” deck and triple bagger. Takes a bit longer with the 308 but it definitely uses way less fuel! And I enjoy mowing so I don’t care about shortening my mowing time
-
3 pointsI have no idea on how much you're mowing, but if you're only mowing a little bit an 8hp only sips gas, where that 16 is going to really suck gas on you. I have an 8hp and a 160 also that I mow with and the difference in gas consumption is quite impressive.
