Some people may call me crazy, but last year I bought one of the super rare 520-8 machines from @Sodaking27, in a herd from Maryland. Rylee and I drove 1300 miles round trip in two days, with the help of @phil bowling and his buddy Scott to pick them up. The 520 is an awesome machine, but I hadn’t gotten around to doing anything with it and it was kind of new for my collection. I didn’t want to get rid of it, but I’m starting to run out of room. As some of y’all saw yesterday, I made a trade with @Bow_Extreme Matt and he brought me this GT14 package. Having the Lever Steer, Senior, 953s and 1054s in the collection, I’ve been longing for a good running GT14 to round out my ideal big wheel collection. I know I missed a Super C, D, and maybe more, but I’m happy with this. This came with a @19richie66 aluminum gas tank, solid nose grille, inside wheel weights (that I picked up for Matt in Chicagoland a while back), three point hitch kit, tiller, extra hydro, mower deck (that I also traded to Matt a while back!) I tossed the belt once so far, popping the parking lever up too fast maybe? It’s in need of some love, but I’m looking forward to having a tiller/3 point tractor in the worker clan! I started today with working on the three point. I removed the rusty drawbar hitch and got the 3 point lower piece attached. It is bent, but won’t affect the tiller install. The top lift bar needs a weld job but I know a guy for that. I’ll have to make a point to address the small hydro leak and change the fluid/filter as well.

Here is a pic of the 2 new plastic plates procured from one of the Red Square advertisers and painted by my son with good eyes and a steady hand. He used a wide square tipped oil based Sharpie pen. Now if the rest of it turns out this good!

Some of you know I bought 857 #5 from HHHOOOWWWAAARRRDDD!!! about 4 years ago at the Big Show. when I bought it he pointed out that it had the remnants of the bug sprayer attachment still on it. This was the "Brilliant Idea" of some "engineer" back in the 60's. You used the engine exhaust to spray insecticide all over your lawn, you your neighbor and your visiting Mother-in Law. ( Remember the wallpaper with DDT?) Here is a pic of the remnants. A hole was drilled into the exhaust nipple and 2 tubes were jammed into the hole and it was clamped on. There were 2 holes in the hood to mount the insecticide canister ( pic from @prondzy) Well I was old school mowing yesterday and all of a sudden the engine sounded kind of weird. Exhaust leak from the muffler area. Thought it was the pepper pot but it turned out that nipple was disintegrating. I really wanted to save it as it was a cool conversation piece but it was thin in spots. I saved enough of it it if I decided I have to have it I can drill a hole in the new nipple and remount this pipe thingy. Don't know if I will. I use this tractor a lot and I'm thinking I would be inviting an exhaust leak when I least want it. Chunk of nipple with the hole and the pipe set up. I wondered how that hose didn't burn up. Looks like the pipes were clogged where it passed into the nipple. @Pullstart Going to try out a stack on this one. all schedule 80 black iron. I have a new pepper pot if it doesn't work out.

Hooked up the Brinly cultivator to my Raider 12 (row crop) to chase the weeds out of some sweet corn today. Who says a hard working tractor can't look good too? Ever wonder why any manufacturer would have bothered to put a hood ornament on a tractor? One purpose for it is to use it as a site to line your tractor up down your rows in your garden. I was going to use Radpferd, my Diesel tractor with a 3spd transmission today but I'm glad that I choose my Raider. Why? 1st gear high range was a little too fast. At this speed too much dirt was being thrown on to the plants. 3rd gear low range worked much better.

I’m informed that on occasion I function as a bug fogger whilst on my Wheel Horse or not, depending on what I had for dinner…

Had a hub fail on the main passenger car of the SL&WHN RR during the Memorial Day Parade. No issues and it kept rolling. But, fixed today with some new wheels and went dually to help with the weight…

New compartments for second lid made. Only now need to make some dividers for chisels and hold downs for braces . Most frequently used tools will be on this lid such as chisels screwdrivers , etc. First lid will have a couple of most frequently used handsaws.

I had a 69 GT-14 back about 10 years ago I think. No muffler but like a 2 foot stack with a flapper. I had my wife come out and look at it and I had it going "tink tink tink!" She says "YOU MADE ME COME OUT TO LOOK AT THAT?!!!"

Well, as you will have gathered we are leaving the Farm as it is closing down and moving onto the next thing, which for now is a Dairy Farm just outside of Dumfries. The job comes with a house, and to say the house is disappointing would be an understatement! Anyway, no point dwelling on the negatives, and instead focus on improving it for our stay before we make the move to France. The biggest issue for me is the complete lack of outbuildings on the property, so I will once again be embarking on a building project in order to create a garden shed, dog kennels and a new workshop for me. The remit is to spend as close to $0 on these buildings as we dont own the house and will not be here long term - however I refuse to just "make do" as only have one life and live it to the full. So for your entertainment, you guys can follow me on another building project or three Concept sketches and ideas soon, I have already got leads on potential free materials by demolishing buildings. Buckle up and get ready for the ride!!! Dans DIY season two is about to begin.....

Penetrating oil and patience! Just remember with rusty stuff, it took years likely to get stuck. Don’t assume it will creep in there in minutes

Starting to visualize all the tools that I want to put in box. Decided to make a few additions to it without altering the existing in order to fit and organize everything. I will leave all repairs and new additions looking as they are without staining them so changes are obvious adding to the story of box for future generations. Still have a few boards of old growth long leaf pine which is actually what most of box is made off. They are totally clear with perfectly straight grain. They are a pleasure to work with, leaving their scent through out house.

A couple GT14 things @953 nut …. I’m super happy to have a dedicated 3 point tiller tractor with a very low hour rebuilt engine and some bling of a @19richie66 tank! The roll of duct tape needs changing, but it’s comfy and will be a great worker once I take care of a few little things!

We just picked up two attachments. One is a Brinley disk harrow and the other one is a Wheel Horse single bottom plow. ( or that’s what the guy told us) If anyone has any tips or tricks for the wheel horse bottom plow for a manual for it it would help a lot. Also, the adjuster on the bottom plow is not moving right now so if anyone has a trick to get it free it would help. Both things will be going on a 312-8 and I don’t really know how the bottom plow hooks up so if anyone has any pictures or anything with it being hooked up it would help. We were just going to get the disk harrow but the kind guy let us take it for free! I’ll be using them both to till up the garden along with my C-145 with a rototiller.

I was able to till! I have some figuring out to do on the controls but it worked!

Another monumental moment in the shop! After 2.5 years of using these monster rolls of “butt wipe” as I call it (sorry @SylvanLakeWH), I finally ran out of a roll! The kids get me one of these every year for Christmas and there’s another rolling around in the camper. First time opening a new shop roll since the start!

Just happy it isn’t snow season anymore…

If the valve was weeping gas it probably should be replaced. The gas tank grommet is probably not as pliable as it was a few decades ago. I would replace it and the valve just to be on the safe side.

@Bow_Extreme I tightened the packing nut on that fuel shut off and left it on all night. It fired up quick today and no leaks found!

In 2009 I purchased a 2005 Classic GT with only 100 hours on it. Having been on Wheel Horses since 1960 this was by far the newest machine I ever had. Right off the get go I noticed a slight lag in the clutch engagement and didn't like it. Looking in to it I discovered the hydraulic damper. Garbage. I removed it and then I had a slight chatter. Not wanting to put the damper back on I replaced the belt even though it looked good. Problem solved and I'm still running the same belt. The moral of the story is that these machines worked fine with just the spring for decades and they still will.

It is great you both did well and be satisfied with the Deal. Btw pullstart is definitiv a man of honor, i know where i‘m talking about.

That is so awesome!! I’m super happy this found an amazing home!! It’s been sitting in my barn for at least 2+ years.

And, VERY notorious for rounding out the hex .... be VERY careful in removing it - clean the pocket spotless and get your very best Allen wrench and make sure it is seated real tight ... and cross your fingers!!!

What an awesome machine, and a clever way to approach a problem. They have essentially designed a vehicle not dissimilar to an aeroplane tug that can take a container. We must still have stricter laws in Europe as most trucks are the cab over type, very rarely see a long nosed vehicle, although Scania produced a nice unit until the early 2000's (my favourite truck :-))

Agreed. Trina and I have a very very worn out Ferguson tractor with a loader that just about works. We've been mulling over whether we should put some money into rebuilding it, or do something on a smaller tractor which would be more maneuverable for us.

My brother David Ralph, who is on oxygen 24/7 with COPD had an ah hah moment this morning! A Facebook Marketplace listing in northwest Indiana had a much coveted Wheel Horse item - a 4 Wheel Wagon! Pretty good shape too! Mostly light surface rust. Glad to see my brother still has the Wheel Horse itch ! Glad to see he got this home before noon today too! I wish I could tell you what he paid for this wagon but it would ruin the day for the vast majority of Red Square Members!

Finally got the axle seal replaced on the C-100. Seemed to all go well so hopefully no more puddling oil under it... pressed in pic didn't turn out well but it seated well running the skinny tires for now. Will get tubes for the wide v-tread next!

Imo damper off and add return spring and done.

Take it off and throw it away and just use the spring the way Mr. pond designed it to be.
