15 pointsWhat a busy last 2 days the boys and I have had. As you guys have seen Alex my now 11 year old has been on fire with Wheel Horses acquiring 3 in just a couple months. I have an add on Craigslist that he helped me write and it paid off with one of his 3 tractors and a great score Friday night before baseball. A gentleman emailed me about a wheel horse Rototiller he had. He said if it really was for a kid who’s into the hobby he could have it for coffee money but if it was for me I needed to make an offer. Well wouldn’t you know it Alex missed out on a Wheel horse Rototiller 2 weeks before when it was sold out from under him. So the guy and I talked and him and Alex talked and we all agreed to meet Friday. I texted him and said “we never settled on a price” thinking there is no way this guy is seriously going to sell for coffee money. He texts back a picture from the Dunkin Donuts drive thru and says “my afternoon fancy coffee was $5.77 he pays me that and I’m Happy”. I was blown away. We met up and he was extremely nice. He was super happy to see another generation getting into tractors and small engines just like his kids did. When it came time to pay Alex hands him what we agreed on which was 10 dollars and the guy literally said this is more than I wanted. Alex was ready for this and said well hopefully you can use it to get a second coffee. They both laughed and we were on our way both happy as can be. Yesterday both boys Alex and his older brother Aiden (who never wants to do anything tractor related anymore) and myself attended our first show. The boys had an absolute blast and Alex and Aiden put miles on driving around checking out everything having a blast. Aiden said he forgot how awesome tractors and shows were and asked if he could get back into them. i no sooner than got us home and unloaded and I got a message from @Crazywheelhorseman. I had been talking to him earlier looking for a project tractor for Aiden. His message was the link to a 856 with plow, mower deck, paper work and extra parts posted 9 minutes ago. I messaged the guy and the race was on. Driving an hour to get it while he was telling me other people want it and asking if I was coming. The results were awesome. The 856 and plow look to get mostly original the mower deck has been repainted. The engine was rebuilt in the 80’s and it runs and drives perfectly. My oldest son is back on cloud 9 and loving every second of it. and I hit you guys with a long story again sorry!

11 pointsHey! I was looking around for a tractor for my son, he's 5y/o, and I didn't want to buy a power wheels for him to out grow in a few years and why not get a little extra out of the deal .... So I picked up a 1277 that needed some help for $300. It's missing a bunch of items; PTO and lever, belts, main drive cover, seat is gone. The unit came with a mowing deck, snow thrower and an extra engine, the tractor wasn't running, generator/starter didn't work ... which made me weary..... engine had compression and fuel was tarnished. Starter/generator had a broken connection on a brush and dirty. Put a little elbow grease into the fuel and ignition and she fired up... still a little wary of not knowing about the Hydrostatic pump and trans working or not. Ran to tractor supply got a belt (which is to wide) threw it on just to see if it would be enough to spin the pump and it did and it moved! RELIEVED!! This my first garden tractor I'm working on this indepth.. if anyone has information they'd like to share, as I scoure through this forum, it's welcomed!! Thanks for reading! I'll post a quick video next!

11 pointsThis year's Mother's day trip/adventure/gift from Trina to the Mama was a trip up to the top of Mt Washington NH via the oldest and 2nd steepest cog ⚙️ railway in the world. Absolutely beautiful, fascinating adventure. I took about 40, 45 pics. Trina about the same. Enjoy !!

7 pointsOld reliable (L-107) had a bad day. Thought the last couple of outings she seemed to slow under load. Today she told me I am not going anywhere until you fix me.... Darn After market belt only lasted about 20 years....

6 pointsHi guys, been a while! I’m getting close to done on this build and thought you’d all like a progress update. Hood is repaired and done. How well it holds up is another question but I added header wrap to the inside panel. Also installed a lot of weights to the rear. Bolens inner and sears outer I believe. Still need to cut the carriage bolts to length and mount the front weights, and then she is done😁

5 pointsSo I got the tubes for the dump trailer I got from the junk man. Of course after I put them on I had to take it for a few laps. I switched the wheels around. Put the black ones on the dump cart and the white ones on the flat trailer.

5 pointsI decided to tear into the 18hp twin Briggs from my electric conversion project. This engine is more damaged than my ex wife, not worth saving. One piston and rod may be good, external parts probably good. I can’t believe nothing was punched thru the case.

5 pointsBeen a quiet Mothers day here. My wife is showing some improvement on her pinched nerve. Not ready to leave the house yet, though. Here are Mother's day wishes for others.

5 pointsFew weeks ago i get a cheap offer for a small foldable drone. It has a WiFi module and normal Camera that reaches about 200m distance. it has an extremely small footprint folded and i developed the Idea, use it for my Fawn saving Project. The main reason to do that was the Hammer Airtime of 29min total. so i begun and removed the integrated Camera and the WiFi Crap Transmission. while remove it, i measure the Current, this thing needs. it consumpts 480mA what is much more than what my Thermal Camera include a 5,8GHz FPV transmission needs. to solve that issue i prints a new Cameramount on my 3D Printer and begin the Rework. That all is dang fizzeling but i believe a pretty Cool solution and very Handy because of it‘s size. Today was the maidenflight That Thing is pretty Cool. i get 20 min of Airtime, what is great for such a small drone with that heavy Payload.

5 pointsTried out my freshly patched deck today. The agricultural paint seemed to prevent grass from clumping almost entirely. I took the front AG tires off and swapped them for some original turf savers. The front AGs seemed to want to dig around turns.

5 pointsA very proud and happy mother!! Missing my college girl in my Mother’s Day picture.. I’m very thankful for my family!!!
-
5 pointsOne suggestion… add floor boards so your son’s feet are stable and protected from the rear wheels…

5 pointsMan, your stories aren’t long, they’re good reads! Awesome stuff, thanks for sharing! A while back a member from Mexico, MO sent me a 3 point hitch system for a GT14 for some boys I was working with… for the price of shipping. There are plenty of good people out there!

5 pointsMy wife and I did the cog on our first wedding anniversary in 1986 July 13. Her sister was working at the MT Washington motel, we stayed at the Darby motor in, no relation. That trip was, I guess was our hunny moon, we had closed on the home we still live in two weeks before our wedding, so money short.

5 pointsQuick bit of canvas work today repairing our heaving line bags. These small ropes with a weighted canvas bag are our messengers for the big ropes that hold the ship in dock. You throw this ashore attached to the bigger gear - much easier than trying to throw a 4 inch rope any distance! The bags land from quite a height and tend to split open after a while. Will make up some new ones when some free time comes along. I'm one of the very few British seafarers that can still sew - sad days!

5 pointsOn my 856 project when we pulled it from the weeds ,and having the wheels being half buried in dirt, the wheels disintegrated. I had to pick up a set cheap just so I could roll it around. The rims I got are silver/gray. Trying to decide if I should keep them that color, paint them original wheel horse color, or paint them black. I think painting the wheels on a tractor is the one single thing you can do to make it look 1000 times better.

4 pointsManaged half an hour on one of the wheel rims before starting work this evening. Bit fiddly, but will potter away and get it all stripped. Had a poll with the family to decide on colour between white, almond or black. General consensus for this set is black. They are going on a blackhood C125 so should look fine.

4 pointsThanks EB....My go to yard tractor now. Thing runs sweet for a Tecky. Real tricky clutching tho with no reverse gear. Clutch out is go.... halfway is neutral .....floored is reverse and there is a fine line between. Missus can't get the hang of it without grind me a pound so now she don't want me to give the flying freakin A to @Achto! Tubs like these are so handy for yard work ... easy on/off for old coots.

4 pointsI took the Clan to breakfast this AM. We have all boys in our family so our mothers include 1 mother in law, 2 daughters in law, 1 sister in law, 1 neice in law, and of course Mrs K.
-
4 pointsYeah - what @SylvanLakeWH said. These tractors are little and old, but they share the attitude as big old tractors - they will find ways to hurt you just as easily as work for you. They were built at a time when operating them safely depended as much on the operator as the design of the machine. Use common sense, as that Wheel Horse is not a toy, but a real worker. Be very careful on grades, especially side grades. In fact, restrict your son to level ground for the next few years. Good luck and have fun.

4 pointsIf the pulley is good...ie. the bearing in the pulley is OK, it is fine. You do know that the belt guard needs to be in place for everything to work without grinding gears? The belt guard is actually your clutch. When you push in the clutch pedal, the tension pulley allows the drive belt to get slack in it. The belt guard funnels that slack toward the engine drive pulley, thus allowing the transmission input pulley to stop rotating. Once the input pulley stops, you can shift gears without grinding.

4 pointsGreat pictures. How old is that particular rail? Some great scenery right there. Some of America at its finest. Someday the wife and I would like to visit that area. Did I miss something though? Where are the Wheel Horse?? A fella must need transportation once up there.😁😁

4 pointsWas up that way 45 years ago this April on my honeymoon - but I was "busy"...

4 pointsJim Dandy's Haul Butt! A friend had one and lived out in the middle of nowhere. On nice days if he had to go into town he's drive that instead of his truck!

4 pointsYou're not far off!! Mt Washington is the only place in the USA east of the Mississippi that has recorded snow in ALL 12 calendar months.

4 pointsI rebuilt the hydraulic cylinder and happy to report no more leak down over night. I also replaced the lift lever I had made and modified so it is easier to operate the lift while looking over my right shoulder. The way I have it set up forward lifts and back lowers the lift
-
4 pointsThe only thing that will change the chain speed is a size change of the engine (clutch) sprocket.

3 pointsHere's a couple pics from today. The spring thaw is done and flow is down quite a bit. Still good retention though! The birch log laying in there does quite a lot to keep mud in place to dam the pond.

3 pointsGood point... Just took me forever to get to the well adjusted point. I was ready to fast ball the carb at Sqounkys head!

3 pointsto the forum. Bunch of good, helpful, folks here. Collectively, we've probably broken, and fixed just about anything that can go wrong on a Wheel Horse. The belt guard has some sheet metal tabs on the inside near the engine pulley. These tabs hold the belt off of the pulley when the clutch is depressed and the belt is slack. Without the guard, the slack belt will contact the pulley just enough to keep the input shaft in the transmission turning, which will prevent you from changing gears. Good luck and have fun with your new Horse.

3 pointssmall block Kohlers K181 fuel pumps have an offset in the pump arm. if you are trying to use a big block pump it will not work

3 pointsNo Sir. That was Franconia Notch. Maybe 20 or 30 miles south. The Mts Lincoln Lafayette and Haystack (in the notch) are clearly visible from Washington.

3 points@Monstrosity Welcome fellow Long Islander !! And welcome to the best Wheel Horse forum there is! Here you will meet the nicest people who will help you in any way they can. If you have a question someone here has the answer! Good luck with your tractor, I think you have made a good choice in buying that for your son. This is something you guys can work on together and will still outlast a power wheels.

3 pointsGosh... how could I forget that clarinet I played then? It's actually in a case right here at my feet! I'm not allowed to (attempt to) play it. And this is the very first banjo I got. I think around 1972 or so. It's now a 'wall hanger' for decoration purposes only. It is NOT a good instrument! LOL! That's my friend. the late great J.D. Crowe in the photo

3 pointsI removed the hydraulic cylinder on the 953 and rebuilt it. Installed new hoses as well.

3 pointsIt's coming together now - only mocked up on the bench and lots more detail to come. I even got a sounding pipe cap with a label on it - must be an original from when she was built. Not sure exactly how the brass cap will be mounted to the steel base. Braze it maybe? Don't even know how to do that yet....
