This is a follow up to Mike's @sparky - (admin)'s post a week or so, called Rim Painting Day. I commented about using playing cards to mask the tire - some folks were not familiar with it. I took advantage of the good weather yesterday to paint the 4 for the 502. The color I chose was Shell White because it has a Satin finish. Here goes... This method is simple, and it gives great results, as it allows you to paint the edges of the rim bead area too. I like to prep, prime and paint the backsides of all the rims with no tires on them first, then prep and prime the fronts, but no finish coats of color. Once the rims are dry enough, install new valve stems if you are going the tubeless route, mount your tires from the front and inflate them to 20 PSI to seat the beads. Let them sit for a couple of days, then recheck the tire pressure to verify they hold air as they should. Deflate the tires and force the Playing Cards in under the bead and array them around the rim. I chose plastic coated Jumbo cards, all of a Dollar at one of the Dollar Stores in town. Cover the outer portion of the tire with rags or newspaper (not necessary with the front rims) and paint away. Prior to and between coats, stand the rattle can up in a saucepan or other container that is partially filled with hot tap water. This thins out the paint and raises the internal pressure to give a better spray pattern. Remember to wipe the sides & bottom of the can off before painting! Let them sit a few hours before removing the cards and reinflate the tires to a lower working pressure. Bill

I noticed that the windshield wipers on my wife's Ford needed to be replaced the other day - the wiping edge on both was starting to come apart. Have you priced aftermarket wipers at the Auto Parts stores lately - WOW - $30 EACH for sub standard junk made in "The Offshore" facility. Got online to see what specials the Ford Dealers were offering and there were 5 area Dealerships that offered a pair of OE Motorcraft replacement blades for $27 and change - installed for free if you wanted to wait. My local Dealer was not participating in that coupon special, their price was $36. I went there anyway, and asked the Service Advisor why they did honor that price - and she DID. Got them for $27 and change... sometimes it "pays" to ask. Bill

I am creating this instructional, hoping it can be placed into the instructionals area under videos @stevasaurus @Sparky @admin Many times, we make suggestions to utilize YouTube’s video sharing ability to lessen the server stress on RedSquare. It occurred to me that I had to learn how to do it, so maybe some pictures and explanation would help others. This is being done with an iPad. I realize that some usage with a phone or computer might leave some steps hanging or in a different location. It all starts with having a video on your device. Then, open YouTube. On the bottom of my screen, I have 5 buttons. By clicking or tapping the + button in the center, it allows a new video. I have never done a live video, I always select the “Video” option. Select your movie to post. This might be a browse feature for desktop users. After selecting your video, you can trim the beginning or end (I do this in the iMovie app so I just skip this step) and select NEXT. Give it a name, select if you would like it public, private, hidden, etc. We were recently on vacation, so in the Visibilty tab I selected to release it when we were almost home. I’d rather not tell the entire world on YouTube that I’m 2,000 miles away from my castle. Next, select if this is “Made For Kids” or not. I always select “NO”, then UPLOAD VIDEO. Once it is uploaded and processed and complete, I can now share it if needed. That’s how it gets to RedSquare. On the right side of the videos in the “My Videos” tab, I click the three dots and select “Share” Then, I select “COPY LINK” and it automatically copies the embed link. If I paste the link into RedSquare, it looks like this: https://youtu.be/pZMkMHCweCQ If I paste it, then hit the space bar and wait a moment, it turns into an embedded video right here, taking up little space to our server.

Today after work I started messing with the recently acquired 48" deck (the nicer of the 2). Pulled the blades (well, I think I pulled them yesterday...) and noticed a bit of wear on one of the spindles where the blade goes on. Thick washer was missing. Pulled some washers from an old 42" deck, mounted blades. Put deck on 312-A to see if it would work. Deck belt sloppy - noticed that tensioner was seized. Started raining so I took it in the garage and unmounted deck, took off guards and did a lot of cleaning and lubing, got tensioner working again. Re-installed guards with fresh new bolts, greased spindles, put deck back on tractor. Cut 2 swaths in the rain, deck cuts beautifully (and *wide* ). Garage is looking more and more like a "proppah" Wheel Horse shop now. 416-8 parts tractor still outside.

Testing

Painted the gas tank on the 856 project with some paint i had laying around. It's not Regal Red. It's kind of orangey but it looks better then it did. I also washed my trailers. Thinking about painting the newly acquired dump trailer. So far I'm just thinking about it. I also named my 856 project. I never name any of my tractors but I feel this name fits it. Remember it was abandoned in a field of weeds for decades. So .......

Well here they are got a new fuel pump in the box, 3 new blades, a new oil filter and fuel filter and owners manual. Didn’t pay anything for the little tractor. The little tractor is pretty cool. Not locked up. I like the little hood latch. I didn’t know it had a lever and cable for lifting rear implements. Little tractor has a number below the dash 194163. Can anyone identify what year and model it is. You can cut grass and fish at the same time. 😂 Also is that a wheel horse sleeve hitch on the 312. Looks modified 339 hours no problem pushing it. Blade deck has no rust holes battery in little Tracy is 22 years old!! 275 for the 312 and 25 for the implements and that was their asking price. Husband and wife were really nice people

I finally have my mother’s 1969 VW convertible back home! Getting ready to sell this gem. I had new brake system, gas tank and starter installed over the last ten days. This car was a very complete restore about 15 years ago. It will run 85 mph and still a fun ride. Going to get a very good detailing done before sale as lots of chrome on this bug. I remember from my Napa days when someone would want to replace their wipers on their Chrysler Mini-vans. 28" blades at $29.99 ea. and this was around 1998! All tire shops have computer balancers. It would take a lot of effort to mess up a wheel balance. I balanced a set of Jeep wheels eon's ago. Customer came in the next day squawking and flapping his wings like a Bantam rooster. It shook terribly. Put it on the lift and the inside of the wheels were packed with mud and snow. Seems he did a little "unscheduled off-roading!"

Only seems to happen when we smuggle tractors in from another state. This one came from Indiana.

One of the tidbits I try to pass on to the kids on the high school robotics team I mentor probably apply here. Knowledge is learning from your mistakes. Wisdom is learning from other's mistakes.

The PTO to deck belt is a 103" x 1/2" belt. Deck belt for the 48" deck is a 107" x 1/2" belt. I get mine at TSC.

I have a self propelled walking mower... although... it is only used on 1 place on the property (behind the dam of the pond). Problem is... half the time... it doesn't work... so I am propelling it back to the shop for repairs. Plastic carb, el-cheapo engine... etc. I need to get a BBT with a scythe is what I need... Don

Them grader blades are worth their weight in gold aren't they. Almost makes me wish I had a gravel driveway again! The fellas have seen these pics Frog but I did this all with one and a 857 with turf tires. Very little hand shoveling/raking. One casualty.

Good morning all. Wayne is about 45 minutes from me. Was a busy day yesterday. Sold a 312 Classic to a young lady that's like a daughter to me. Changed all the fluids and cleaned it up for her. Deliver it this evening. Then set up my grader blade to grade my driveway. Thanks for all the responses to my being here.

Some old school mowing with the 1075 Wheel- a- Matic in the front yard and got the Cadillac out for the back yard.

We have 6. Picky little turds are useless for keeping the grass down. But they will wipe out a garden in 13 minutes...

If you spray the Magic IH Red with a spray gun mixed with the hardener it lays down well and dries rapidly. I'm very happy with it but the spray can paint seems to take a long time to dry and cure.

@davem1111 you can see my thread titled “48 inch SD Deck Restoration “ and can probably get most of your questions answered there… But keep on here and keep asking questions, we are glad to help. I know it was impossible for me to remove my pulleys from the spindle shafts without wrecking either a pulley or a shaft… I chose to get all new spindle assemblies, and pulleys. I wanted the deck to last another 30 years…

Yeah that's it. I do actually have three or four decks here. I know at least one of them will cut and function. Fact is, our little hillside terrain acreage here doesn't have any place broad or flat enough that a writing style mowing utensil would be very useful. We have a push mower. We still go with old machinery though being in possession of a 20 or 30 year old Snapper push mower.

Here is the last leaving present - so I have set the bar high enough, dammit! Nothing reused, it was all new materials so technically doesn't count. I did cut the box down from a much bigger one, and the Nappy is a disposable towel thing from a passenger cabin.

My dad was no welder, but he did keep a pair of asbestos gloves in the shed. Try getting your hands on a pair of those these days! His are probably in a landfill in much the same condition as they always were.

Great day for working on tractors! took the seat of the 1257 that it came with it. Put it on the 74 B80. Still a nice little tractor. The 1257 is coming along well a little bit every day. I got this from Docwheelhorse. He has the parts. As some of you know I love these Start/Gen tractors. Simple and they are easy to on. They work all day and Old like me. Enjoy the picks.
