For starters I picked these 2 up today. Ones an early 2000s 314-8 the other is a 1965 1075. Only reason I got the 1075 is so I could get that nice rusty mid mount blade for my no name 8.

Hello All, Hows that phrase go? Craftsman makes it, China shakes it! I need a T-Shirt with that on it... What a TURD.... Its a 2018... had a bad starter my friend repaired for me. He has an auto electric shop. The guts where all plastic and junk. He swapped in Hamilton Standard parts. He said it's a Chinese copy of there model starter. Carb was a mess... its a fixed jet with no adjustments, cleaned it out. This is as good as it gets for running. Mowed a small piece of my yard and my teeth and feet hurt from the vibration. Go hug your Wheel Horse and give it an extra serving of oats today Tony 20220505_105125.mp4

Hi all! Reviving this thread now that I FINALLY got this thing bored and honed. That phone number from NAPA for a local with a machine shop? Sweet woman answered and said, "Robert who?" Ex-wife? Well, that was a dead end. In this post-Covid Georgia, few shops remain. Either that or we're just a throwaway world. I had to drive out to Braselton for the .020 bore and hone of my K301. Called Engine Services on BBS Way - booked for the year, sorry. "How about a bare block, old cast iron single?" He paused and said to drop it by. Good guys. Bonus that they're just 500 ft. past Road Atlanta - an old stomping ground (visitor at the AMA races). I miss that Suzuki and the weekend shenanigans. So, 2 trips and a total of 6 hours in the car with a wife that is understanding and insisted on keeping me company and I have a really beautifully bored short block back on the bench. It really is a thing of beauty. I've never had an engine bored and may just use it as a door stop and cast my eyes toward it now and again or . . . install that piston this weekend. Highly recommended. Oh, he asked what the engine came from (1980 C-125). Told him the bore measured within spec at 40 years of age. He said it's not surprising - that iron is dang hard! $150 well spent. Who's that lister that lives in Flowery Branch - you lucky sucker! I'll finally get all these engine parts off of the garage floor and should have this beast high idling by the end of the month.

Unloaded the car into the workshop on the ship, will fetch the plow on if I get the wheels done. They are solid on the rims so have left them soaking in WD40 for a while, hopefully that will help break the bead....that and a large hammer! Who knows how long they have been on the rims for. Forgot to bring the little key for removing the tyre valve, luckily two very small flat head screw drivers does the same trick. Now its time to go to work, but its strangely comforting having a project from home to keep me busy

Loaded up the car ready for a 6 hour drive to work. Hopefully can get these stripped down and painted while bouncing around the ocean

Finished off the tins on my 856 project. Decided not to repaint it. My good friend helped me add a little personal touch to it. Still working on getting it running. This was the tractor I pulled out of the weeds after sitting in them for decades. It will get there, slowly but surely.

And finally the finished product. The wood came from a truck trailer holder on our car deck. Made a faux Chinese manual for it, which I think is quite funny but a bit rude maybe for here. Also custom made box and labels. All done in a 48 hour last minute panic For reference, our terminal in Shetland is called "Holmgarth Dock" so this was just a massive play on words, and I thought it be nice once the recipient retires to have a bit of history from his 30 years on this service.

This is my LGT165 right after I got done fixing it up with the 42" deck installed. This is it with the 2 stage snow blower installed. Sold it when the Wheel Horse bug bit. Miss the old girl but the Horses are so much easier to work on.

Great day for working on tractors! took the seat of the 1257 that it came with it. Put it on the 74 B80. Still a nice little tractor. The 1257 is coming along well a little bit every day. I got this from Docwheelhorse. He has the parts. As some of you know I love these Start/Gen tractors. Simple and they are easy to on. They work all day and Old like me. Enjoy the picks.

Might have worked if they had used polyurethane bushings. Don't know if they were avertable beck then. I replace all the front end bushing on my 88 conversion van some time in the later 90's made a big difference.

My B-I-L did that and still does it. When my wife's mother died and we cleaned out the house I found a cabinet full of used plugs, points, distributor caps from mid 60's Chevys. And this was in 1991! I had to clean out one of his sheds. 3 trailer loads of half empty spray cans that don't spray anymore. Think I counted like 30 WD 40 cans alone! I had to work on his 8N tractor once. Tool box full of empty parts boxes! WT? Tools them selves in like 10 little boxes with no organization. Never again! In 1987 my future wife blew up her 4 Dr. 74 Volare'. He insisted and saving every piece of that car that could come off easily before it was scrapped. Who saves the doors off of a Volare'?

The tube going into the muffler has many small holes in it with a solid cap on the end. The metal between the small holes burns away and the end of the tube and cap falls off. This now loose piece can cover the hole in the next muffler baffle and that is what restricts the exhaust. Shut the engine down and the restriction falls away from the hole until the next bump that relocates the obstruction to the baffle hole again. Exhaust pressure holds it there. The metal shell of the muffler is so thin next to impossible to repair. A magnet on the bottom of the muffler may hold the loose piece on the inside. Have never tried it.

Well sir, I thought it would as well. Here is the thing... it is JUST inside the leg enough so that it doesn't roast any meat. I haven't burnt myself on it... yet... No radar passes yet. I will do a sppppeeeed test eventually. It's gotta do 40-45... (I don't know that for a fact, don't quote me on that). I did take it on the road when we were testing the golf cart, motha of gawd... it is fast in third... Absolutely. 25 Benjamins. Restoration, parts, shop time, testing. Yes sir. She is currently laying on 9 fertilized eggs, so we might have quite a few more turkeys here soon! Don

Both Horses got some exercise today. The job was to run the lawn sweeper around the yard. I had intended to use the C195, as it is parked ahead of the sweeper in the shed. The 14-8 fired up and gave the C195 access to the great outdoors. The C195 did not fire right up. I tinkered with it a bit, but no go. I pushed it out of the shed, removed the battery and put it on a charger while I used the 14- 8 to sweep the lawn. Motoring back to the shed, it suddenly came to me that I had not opened the gas tank valve on the C195 . I put the battery back in, opened the gas valve. Low and behold, it started right up! Rather than just back it into the shed, I drove it around a bit to limber it up from its long winter nap. Names for both tractors popped into my head while I was running the sweeper. Clyde for the C195, and Morgan for the 14-8. Why Clyde? It occurred to me that the C195 is the Clydesdale of the C series, so Clyde is a good fit. Why Morgan? Well, the Morgan horse is a good, strong multi purpose working horse. That is a good description of a 14-8. The new propane tank for the lake house got delivered today. We own it, so we are not trapped by a single propane supplier. I've got to call the owner of the lease tank the previous owner had to tell them that their tank is now disconnected and make sure that is the one they take whenever they finally decide to come to pick it up.

I have never used it. Most of the tractors I do I just clean them well and rub everything down with boiled linseed oil. Some I might touch up some paint but rarely paint the whole tractor. This Lambert is the only tractor that I painted the whole thing. Most all of the others I get away with just painting the rims and deck, touching up the rest.

Last day home before heading back to sea. Had to strip seized front brake on daughters Honda XL125. Got it apart, pistons out and cleaned up, new seals and back onto the bike. Worst brakes I have ever had to bleed, takes forever. Best way is to get as much air out as possible then strap the lever to the bar and walk away. After an hour or two it's bled any remaining air without further effort on my part Now the girls can get back out tearing up the fields!

Today after work I started messing with the recently acquired 48" deck (the nicer of the 2). Pulled the blades (well, I think I pulled them yesterday...) and noticed a bit of wear on one of the spindles where the blade goes on. Thick washer was missing. Pulled some washers from an old 42" deck, mounted blades. Put deck on 312-A to see if it would work. Deck belt sloppy - noticed that tensioner was seized. Started raining so I took it in the garage and unmounted deck, took off guards and did a lot of cleaning and lubing, got tensioner working again. Re-installed guards with fresh new bolts, greased spindles, put deck back on tractor. Cut 2 swaths in the rain, deck cuts beautifully (and *wide* ). Garage is looking more and more like a "proppah" Wheel Horse shop now. 416-8 parts tractor still outside.

I don't think that Honda will burn more fuel than your Onan. Probably more than the K301, but nowhere as bad as an Onan.

@SylvanLakeWH anther area of detailing that should be done is use a BOTTOM TAP on all related , threaded points , ensuring total thread strength and function , use a cutting oil , that packing puller , is the tool for that job , use dielectric grease on the seal rubber , ensures smooth operation , just my experience . pete

@Dan.gerous just thought of you getting a " packing puller " to use on the rear axel seals , only need to drill a small hole in seal side edge , to screw in and pull out seal , makes this job much easier , look it up on line , another thing, use this time before those seal replacements , to get some aerosol penetrant working on related set screws and rocker key way areas , would lightly tap areas with hammer , that penetrant will start the rust run out , just keep it wet and loosen what you can , when I did that , my hub areas were no problem . pete

I would like to make it known, I do have a healthy respect for flammable gas's. The Milwaukee Fuel series use a brush less motor, no arcs or sparks and the steel socket is working against brass. The last of the valves.

Mixed luck with the "new" decks. Both are 48" cut. Oddly, the best of the 2 was on the 416-8 that doesn't look like it has run in 10-15 years (or more). I thought I'd sharpen the blades on the better deck because they were pretty dull. Took them off and found that one spindle was missing the washer under the blade, and the blade has been slopping around and wore into the shaft on the spindle. Luckily I have another old 42" deck that I think is beyond being worth repairing (at least in my case with all these decks) so I'm going to pull a spindle off that when I get time. This nicer 48" deck is going to be worth a full refurb I think.

Takes a steady hand and some good brushes. Now if I can only get it to run !!! If not, I will have some cool yard art !!

An excellent point. Mine had it and lived it and so, of course, I learned it. (There are some moving family stories passed down of coping during the depression.) To counter this, at my smart wife's strong suggestion, we create a hobby budget for each of us that we know we can afford and encourage each other to spend it all every year. No extra points awarded for not spending it. As for the collecting? Well, that's a work in progress. I've been sticking to my promise to unload something every week--donate, sell, recycle, or trash--or put something from the "inventory" into active use. Plus I'm getting better at walking away from "maybe I'll find a use for this" stuff.
