10 pointsToday I used the 2k lb Superwinch to pull tree limbs and brush out of my back woods. The lawn is still pretty soft and wet so i parked on a small hill and winched across the wet ground. Love having a winch... I had very little traction attempting to pull brush in reverse even with ATV tires and wheel weights, but with the winch I was able to stand on the brake pedal and pull everything out no problem. I hate vines they're the worst, and the previous owner of this property let them get completely out of hand. https://youtube.com/shorts/kA95sH6n3_0?feature=share

7 pointsSpent a little time with the newest member of my herd. The starter was not retracting all of the way so it was rubbing when I turned the engine over by hand. I removed the starter and cleaned up the worm gear on it. I did not have any dry graphite on hand to lube the worm gear so I broke some lead out of a contractors pencil and crushed it to use as a dry lube. I had no idea when this tractor has ran last. Was a little hopeful to see that it had some type of service around 3yrs ago. under the air filter looked a bit scary though. After some scrubbing I was able to find a carburetor under all that gunk. Once I get the carb rebuilt I will hook up an IV bottle & see if this beast will run.

6 pointsWhile giving my 854 a cleaning and overall checkup I noticed two small cracks on the frame below the trans where it is bolted on. Not being able to see how far the cracks went I decided to remove the trans and take a look. There were two cracks going up about 3 inches. Ground out the cracks, welded and ground surface then repainted and added a 3/16 in plate per wheel horse service bulletin that was issued once they discovered it was a problem. Not to make light of this fix, it was not easy, I spent two days repairing the frame and putting the 854 back together. My 854 enjoys very light duty work, moving a small trailer or the odd Texas antique engine show. If you work your 854 harder than me, check the frame there's a good chance its cracked.

6 pointsNewly acquired B-100. I'm almost at the magical number 30. It's taken me about 4 years to get to this point. What a journey it has been !

6 pointsPicked up this 500hr 417 with loader today. Runs and operates awesome. Truth be told I don’t really need it but it was too cool to pass up on. I had 3 of these at one point and had to sell them.
-
6 pointsAgreed... the Frame Plate is a weak point in design. Instead of cut-trim-weld, I've repaired several of these with 1/4-3/16" 2x2 angle iron drilled and fitted to the frame flate...which also reinforces the corners. No welding required...optional though. Here is the .pdf narrative..with pics.. of how to make the 'fix'...without welding. MODERATOR... At your leisure, post this file in the Wheelhorse Form manual...whereever you see fit. WHEELHORSE FRAME PLATE FIX.pdf

6 pointsUnfortunately that crack is not unique to 854s. The same thin stamped tranny plate is used on nearly all Wheel Horse tractors. Using a snow/dozer blade is what usually causes the damage.

-
5 pointsOh course the big child had to play too! The black horse got engine swap tonight! Couldn’t figure out the issue so just switched engine! Only to remember the head gasket is out of it lol…

4 pointsWhile I'm familiar with steam power plants, I really don't know much about steam tractors. I followed this auction and was amazed at the value these beast sold for. Of course their over 100 years old and not many left around. While their really cool, but as @Achto said, I don't think I will ever afford/own one. But one can still watch them and drool over them. https://bid.aumannauctions.com/auctions/catalog/id/31046/

4 pointsClick on the picture in each link. The belt is on the page that comes up. You should use a belt designed to bend backwards over a flat idler. The green Gates belts available from Napa are designed for the purpose.

4 pointsHelped my friend put some finishing touches his 444 basket Case so that he could take it for a test drive today. A few minor things left to do and this tractor will be show ready.

3 pointsStarted to restore this C-120 last fall. Tragedy in family is reason for selling. Solid running motor, Mounted deck and mowed with it one time late last fall. Patrons and vendors here at Red Square have been great. Welded hyd lift cyl rebuilt, new gas tank and valve, new drive belt for drive and PTO, New steering wheel. It did hesitate to go forward when started one time last fall. Moved the lever again and off we went. Rear tires great shape, front ties weather checked, I planned on new. This summer was to bring fuel pump and carb clean, front tires, disassemle / paint / new decals / Orings for hoses on the rebuilt lift cyl, I used the old ones..it has minor leak. I have been running on a borrowed battery. I am off to town to buy a new battery for it..It will have a new battery installed.

3 pointsThere are some of us that add braces to the frame. I haven't broken one but I have added some plates and braces to all three of mine.

3 pointsVery cool stuff!!! Actually pretty similar pricing to some ‘s on Craigslist these days… “…ran when parked…” etc.

3 pointsIt is a #15 woodruff key...Wheel Horse #937022. You can buy these at ACE and TSC, AutoZone, etc. use this chart for measurement. I see you are from Sweden. You should be able to cross charge the key. Remember, they are soft metal. If you need to file a little for a good fit.
-
3 pointsOK...I have contacted a source for making my 6 gage cables. I have also ordered the Cole Hersee #95521-B-BX ignition switch. $44.89 shipped from dbelectric.com. I decided that I did not want to go with the push button / on off switch that came with the 702. I also want to keep the cigarette lighter because...1. it was my Dad's, 2. I just might want to have a cigar again with @stevebo at the Big Show and share some Rock & Rye. 3. @WHX?? may need a light.

3 pointsThere are two ways of addressing a problem. You can try all sorts of well intentioned remedies and probably complicate the situation OR you can determine the cause of the problem, correct it and enjoy the results. The door won't operate properly because something on the hinge side is no longer plumb, you already know that. You say the door latches well and the reveal is uniform around the door. This leads me to believe that the entire door frame (and perhaps the wall it is on is no longer plumb. Beg, borrow or steal (no don't steal, perhaps rent) a laser level that has horizontal and vertical capability. Set it up at one end of the wall in question and take accurate measurements along the wall and door frame. If the door frame is out of plumb and the wall is good you can remove the door trim, use a Sawz-all to cut the nails on the top and one side at a time and bring the frame into a plumb alignment then reattach it to the wall. If the wall is out of plumb you will have to evaluate the cause and go from there.

3 pointsHave you checked timing on them? On K91s and I have quite a few of them, unless they are battery ignition, I change them to the NovaII electronic ignition. It eliminates points and condenser and automatically sets timing. It’s cheap and fast to install making engine always have good spark.

3 pointsI want to resurrect this thread concerning paint blistering on these C series tractor hoods. I, like most of you have experienced this situation over the years. After having all my metal professionally painted this spring I wasn't about to let it happen again. I did some research and found this company online. After sending them several photo's of the tractor and problem area they suggested using their self adhesive heat barrier tape. They mfg several different products to control heat. So for $19.46 mailed I bought the 12" x 12" section. Cost effective enough right? It came in Friday and I installed it Saturday. I had enough to do inside of the grill of which I had problems with in the past from the muffler heat. Mind you nothing like the side of the hood but discoloration none the same. I have attached a couple of pics for your view ing pleasure. The part number I ordered is #13500.

3 pointsToday…first… I took back over $100 worth of garden soil to Lowes from planting petunias yesterday… Picked up 3 bags of black mulch (1 too many). Then after putting the rubber hood latches on the Work Horse and painting the underside of the 48 inch SD deck with POR-15, I put mulch in the petunia beds… without mulch they would probably burn up. These pics probably look the same as before to you all but the difference is now it’s black mulch you’re seeing instead of dirt…

3 pointsWell looked over my new project today. Took the gas tank out. Removed the 20 yr old battery. I might not be able to save it. There is no key for the ignition. Wiring is shot.Throttle and choke cables are rusted tight. Do not budge. Good side is it does spin over. Needs a steering wheel and obviously a seat but not until we hear it run. Fingers crossed.
-
3 pointsWhile the 1st coat of POR-15 was drying on the deck for the 520H I went ahead and installed the new rubber hood latches on the 1984 Work Horse GT-1600… Man those are some tiny e clips on those hinges… popped the first one off and the clip and the tiny washer fell down in the engine. I found the clip, not the washer…

3 pointsHello all, been spending some time on my 1995 312-8. Tractor has around 560 hours, is clean and solid. After deciding to just paint the fading hood, I realized the color probably wouldn’t match the rest of tractor. I tore all the tins off, repainted what I could, reassembled with all new stainless hardware and new decals. Just thought I’d share, thanks to all you guys for answering my questions. Dominator

3 pointsOn some S/G units the terminals of the regulator come uncomfortably close to either the Gas Tank or the engne block. (Variations I guess in pulleys and belt lengths.) Rather than using the small screws to mount the saddle to the Genny body just get a hose clamp big enough to fit around the Genny body use that to hold the regulator and you can adjust for clearance. Just make sure you remove some paint from the genny body under the saddle for a good ground.
-
3 pointsCompleted the assembly / restoration on a 42" recycler deck. Probably the nicest cutting deck Wheel Horse ever offered.
-
2 points@pfrederi You are correct about the closeness of the regulator contacts to the gas tank. See this picture, which has a piece of tape, under the paint, to protect the contacts. I will be addressing this issue. Maybe a shorter belt will give more room there?? I have different material also that could be used on the gas tank. I might also be able to protect the contacts themselves with something.
-
2 pointsHey I like that 312-8! And I have plenty of ugly tractors if you need some to compare to!
-
2 points@Elliot Garfinkel Yes, that is the schematic I have. My wiring is a little different because I have a 3 prong ignition switch. I should draw up what I have so to post it for those that have the different ignition.

2 pointsI did go up a hill and it put a small load on it… first time governor had kicked in… seemed to momentarily take that flutter/ sound I’ve been hearing away…

2 pointsdavem1111, 953nut's idea is a good one. an alternative would be to weld a regular hex nut onto the drain plug. welding in the middle of the hole in the nut. then turn it out. you can buy replacement drain plugs at any decent hardware store. best of luck mike

2 pointsJeez, you guys are tough! I may take you up on that some day soon, looking for places to replace and add grounds on all three of my tractors. I'll be at the big show in June, I'll be in touch long before then once I figure out what I want and need.
