I was able today to get few better Picts. And yes, it is a 1955, the 1956 have ovals instead. What a Beautiful Dash.

Trina and I went hiking with our friend today. Pleasant Mountain in Denmark and Bridgton Maine. Here's a view of the mountains we actually live on. Red arrow to approximate Wheelhorse location. This is Mt Washington in the distance. Same frame, zoomed. And the rest of the assortment...

After a long day I finally got the frame of the C160 primed. Took the front axe off, steering, and attachment points off and got them primed too. Hope to have it done in the next few weeks.

This 1045 came available in my area and I just couldn't pass it up it's going to need a good going through, and cleaned up but it's a basically all there.

Hello all, been spending some time on my 1995 312-8. Tractor has around 560 hours, is clean and solid. After deciding to just paint the fading hood, I realized the color probably wouldn’t match the rest of tractor. I tore all the tins off, repainted what I could, reassembled with all new stainless hardware and new decals. Just thought I’d share, thanks to all you guys for answering my questions. Dominator

I'll bring a 5lb. block of butter to rub on it. We can call it the Land O Lakes 1045!

Had these two boys out for a workout today. The 12 HP brothers did well for the tasks at hand.

Today I've been working on Little Zippy. I know this isn't a WH, but he is wearing what was left of my WH designated paint. Close enough? Trying to get him done and out of the way to make room for the Horses that need repairs.

Planted some Lillies and Snapdragons in an old Lawn Beauty Spreader that I have not been able to sell on FB… it became yard art… Spring is springing…

Helped my friend put some finishing touches his 444 basket Case so that he could take it for a test drive today. A few minor things left to do and this tractor will be show ready.

Well after all these years owning the C-120 and never using it besides towing a dump cart I decided to mount the Tine rake on it today and clean up the road frontage, lawn and start on the trail system to keep up with it so it is ready for the Meet & Greet in September. Picked up some items out front from most likely thrown out from traffic. Seems Bud light is popular as is the good old Pabst blue ribbon, nothing but the best for the Mainers. Had to laugh when I started to read the label on what I thought was carb cleaner in the white plastic container. I hope it worked for them, I was just concerned after picking up all that crap I may find or step in what came out the other end. Almost forgot, also found a black plastic cover that said Mercedes on it, nothing like quality Brought out the 312-8 with cart to bring in the misc items picked up out front. All in all another great day on a WheelHorse tractor that never skipped a beat all day.

What counties in Pennsylvania require emissions testing? . In our area that includes Cumberland, Dauphin, Lancaster, Lebanon, and York counties. Vehicles registered in the other 42 counties are not required to pass an emissions inspection. The Pa emissions testing was established in 2003 in a few selected counties to settle a law suit filed by two enviormental groups against the state. The vehicles that are the worst polluters were exempt. i.e. all diesel powered and all vehichles more than 15 years old. I just had Mrs. Ks 2009 Dodge Caravan inspected. Annual fee; mechanical inspection $29.95 emissions inspection $29.95 sticker for windshield $10.00 state sales tax $ 4.20 Woo Hoo, in two years I save $40 a year. In Pee Aaa, it pays to drive a 15 yo oil burning clunker or a coal rolling deisel.

That's why after I thought about it, I had to jump on it. The ad was about 4 days old, when Mike brought it to my attention. I would have figured it would have already been spoken for, but the PO said the only other guy was down in PA., probably that ED Dog fella, I wasn't going to because I've got my kitchen remodel I'm starting real soon. But I can tuck it away until after the BS in June and work on it over the summer. It needs a lot of small stuff, maybe even a transmission rebuild, seems like it's sat in the elements for quite awhile so most everything is froze up. It's got potential.

What did I do today? Not much. Walked the dog, visited with a brother in law and his wife for a bit, talkes with my sister on the phone, and watched the robotics team compete (via computer) in the World Championships in Houston. At the end of the qualifying rounds, we were ranked with out of the 75 teams in our division. We were selected to be on the #2 seeded 4 team alliance. We made it to the division finals before we were eliminated. The alliance that eliminated us went on to the elimination rounds with the winners of the other 5 divisions. They ended up in 5th. All in all, one of the better seasons the team has had. Watching the competitions on the computer works out well. We don't spend hours sitting on uncomfortable bleachers, and we are already home when the meet ends - the team has a bus ride that starts in Houston and ends in the middle of Mo.

Completed the assembly / restoration on a 42" recycler deck. Probably the nicest cutting deck Wheel Horse ever offered.

Well looked over my new project today. Took the gas tank out. Removed the 20 yr old battery. I might not be able to save it. There is no key for the ignition. Wiring is shot.Throttle and choke cables are rusted tight. Do not budge. Good side is it does spin over. Needs a steering wheel and obviously a seat but not until we hear it run. Fingers crossed.

Here in the mountains of North Carolina we refer to that as formal wear. Also, North Carolina has the strangest vehicle inspection system. If you buy a brand-new vehicle with no miles on it the vehicle has to be inspected before it can be registered. If you have vehicle that is thirty five years or older there is no safety inspection required. Isn't that a bit counterintuitive?

@ebinmaine I see you were wearing your safety shorts. It wasn't that warm up here today.

Had a heckuva busy day. Used all 3 chainsaws for 1 tank of fuel, each. Trina used the sawzall with pruning blade through 2 batteries. The Mama helped out too. Got quite a bit done. Next chance I have after work I'll cut some more. Here's some video and pics.

@Bill D, Got the rubber hood straps in for the Work Horse… Thank you for helping me find them… ACTUS MFG… very nice gentleman on the phone… he said they sell at least a couple sets a month to people restoring tractors… I will be installing these later this afternoon, but for now it’s back to the 48 inch SD deck underside POR-15 treatment.

Solution depends on severity of problem and how door actually now fits inside frame once closed. Adding shims as suggested under top or bottom hinge is a solution but that also change door gap while closed within frame. Shim should only be 1/4" wide and be placed either at the back or the front of hinge. At the back it will move door back from pivoting point, and at the from it will move it forward of pivoting point. Again this will change door clearance within the frame. All of this requires a little experience with these things so as not to create a bigger problem. If this is prevalent through out house but doors are OK within frame when closed, I suggest replacing one or more of hinges with a spring actuated one. There are hinges with spring within the barrel looking like a regular hinge. Tension is adjusted by tensioning spring through an Allen screw at top of hinge and moving a pin in belly of barrel. Hinge can be mounted upside down providing tension in the opposite direction. These hinges are only available in the 4-1/2"x4-1/2" size which is the standard hinge size for commercial work. You may have 3"x3" hinges so re-mortising new ones would be necessary. There are many solutions but the actual problem of issue needs to be identified first, otherwise one may be creating other problems. If the problem is with many doors in the house I doubt that packing the hinges will fix it. A more drastic solution will be required.

Had the same problem. First I remove the door stop trim. Unscrewed top and bottom hinges and only left in the center screw from the middle hinge. This allowed me to set the door plumb. Then needed to reset the top and bottom hinges which in my case required I drill and plug the screw holes with glued in dowels and do a bit of chisel work around the slightly new hinge locations. Screw in the hinges and then put the door stop back in place. Door is now plumb and working perfectly.

In NC if the vehicle is more than 20 or so years old, no emissions test, but all emissions parts still need to be intact whether they work or not… Now they just do emissions on the OBD 2 cars… no more prongs up the tailpipe… I was extremely happy when my 1998 Chevy aged out… been having a fit with the O-2 sensors/ catalytic converters…check engine light stays on and it still passes… (safety inspection only)… I guess when the check engine light burns out she will be running clean…

Here are a few more pics. Duals don’t stay on all the time. Can’t turn sharp and it makes the tractor very heavy. I’m sure John would love it now just as he did when Bob built it for him. RIP Big Guy

@ rig854, like the idea of a recovery start in a can , just starting the other way . with some oil penetration ,and possible rust run out , is something like a reflex to me . glad for you , pete

Kohler painted the engines and must have used a better quality paint. The engine information plat is on the rear side of the flywheel cover but hard to see with the battery and S/G belt guard in place.

Thanks! Interesting build. I like your hydraulic tank and the foot controls. I'm not sure i'll have enough room to incorporate foot controls but I do like the idea

Important note here, there are two kinds of corten, A and B. A is for general 'light duty' like art pieces or cladding on buildings. Whereas B is for 'heavy duty' purposes like for example bridges. Funny thing is that Corten A is the most corrosion resistant. Long story short, the bridge building people should also add a bucket of varnish to their shopping list. Soapbox mode: off

When I built the hydraulic lift for my custom 12 6 speed I used 1/2" for the supply and 3/4" for the return to the canister filter. The in tank screen filter required an 1 1/2". Build is in Raider 12 Modifications

42" only when it comes to the " vintage " Wheel Horses . If I remember correctly, they did make some recycler inserts for later 48"s and some other XI Series decks

I think so. A couple of freeway underpasses were made using it, on the theory that they would not need to be painted. Didn't quite work out that way. Seems the coating of rust would flake off from the vibration of the traffic, causing the steel beams to erode quickly.

Really wanted to work on the 48 inch SD deck for the 520H today, but the grass/ weeds needed cutting… after that I had other Saturday chores… been wanting to put some petunias in the tree stump flower beds I made in memory of my mom/ she loved petunias. So off to Lowes… almost 3 bills later came home and started planting. I way over estimated how much garden soil I would need so tomorrow I will get some of my money back… Petunias are an annual, but mom taught me to pinch the old blooms and toss them in the dirt, and a lot of them return the next year…

A grinder works well too for those pesky rakers 😅😅 I use the gauge too. Although I take a couple more swipes with the flat file after I take the gauge off.

Sometimes (and that is the key word..) you can add a thin cardboard shim behind one of the hinges on the casing - a little goes a long way. Two hinge interior doors are fairly easy to do this to - three hinge doors take a bit longer. Bill

@t_furl43 , when recovering my lever , I found one on the bay , also detailed its function on a milk crate build up , for easy roller stool move around function check , that swing quadrant , should be detail lubricated , for both swing arc area , and spring loaded stop pin function , penetrating oil for rust run out , then lucas xtra heavy duty , chassis grease , will stay with it . also add washers to the lever rod linkage , for a solid smooth swing point. once I found the perfect , set up, I duplicated it on my other plow . when you add the hair pin clip to the end of the frame area , push the clip all the way thru the end , so it rests in the big hole end , so you will not loose it , been there , i also made up 1/2" thread rod heim joint s for my blade lever rod set up . pete
