Picked up this 1054 yesterday off a friend and member here of Red Square, Russ, or as he is known by his screen name SALTYWRIGHT. She runs and drives, little stumble in the carb which should be an easy fix. Original oil bath air cleaner is on and functioning! Newer tri-ribs up front and old (maybe original?) rear AG’s. Has a dual battery setup from back when it had a diesel power plant, but the original Kohler 10 is back in it so I may go back to a single battery setup. PTO parts are off it but I have most of them in a box. Will access what I have and don’t before the WH Show, anything I need should be there for sale. No big plans for it, maybe a couple subtle changes to make it “mine” so to speak. Obligatory pictures….

After 47 years with the same owner........This unmolested tractor climbs on my trailer and follows me all the way home. Time for a complete go through and replace all fuel lines, fluids, filters...What a nice tractor ,with what i think is a primer lever on the OEM fuel pump. I have never seen one before. It was a long ride with all of the Dealer paperwork in a nice folder from day one !! Came with 42" rear discharge deck and a box of goodies. Been indoors all of its life also....

What have I done to my Wheel Horse? Designed and built a pintle hook system. Why does a GT need a pintle hook hitch you ask.... No good reason except that it was an enjoyable design / build project. It does make hitch ups easy and compensates for rough ground better than a draw pin. Added a spring to the latch after the picture was taken. Works great on the lawn roller etc.

I had a 73 12 I bought from the original owner. Same deal He had it for 40 + years and was his baby. He couldn't drive it anymore. Had a box of spare parts and a deck with it. It still had the original spark plug which he kept! He contacted me like 4 years later and said he found another box of parts. I didn't like the WH seat so I sold that for 3/4 of what I paid for the whole machine.

I do believe I saw a small tear in the corner of one eye as I pulled away......they even called me to find out if I got home safe with the Tractor !!!

Gave the 867 a little workout today with the dozer blade. The end of my driveway would rattle your teeth when pulling onto the road. It leveled up nice. Might last a week...

The fuel pumps with the primer lever were used on Kohler engines from 1963 to 1967 on as far as I know. It is very handy for starting an engine that has been sitting for some time, couple flicks of the lever and the engine will start right up.

I use my 702 for mowing, not a large lawn, takes about 20 minutes. Last year, I noticed a sluggish turn of the starter/generator. I knew the battery replacement was long over due, so I replaced it last fall. The tractor still ran and started, but I could still see some smoking coming from around the key switch. It has set all winter, as I use the 857 for moving snow. I am ready now to tackle the issue. I pulled up the wiring diagram, but I have the conversion of the HY-2 which moves the wires around the switch. The HY-2 put a sheet metal thingy on the side of the tower, out of the way of the canister that stores the hydraulic fluid' I do not have the key with a starter button. Not a big deal. I have what is there and it works. I am going to check wires and replace them (12 gage)??...and 6 gage where the diagram shows. I may have to open the starter/generator and see how the brushes look and the magnets. I kind of think some grounds are bad. There are a lot of 702's out there. My plan is to take lots of pictures and document this process. I could also use a little help.

Whether you go 6ga or 4 ga spend a few bucks and get the extra flexible cable. So much easier to route it an hook it up puts much less strain on the switch terminal

Super Nice! The front/rear fabrications look well done. Glad to see you took the one of a kind seat off for transit! How's Russ doing? Still getting around I hope. Hope you took him for a samich for his B day!

After missing out on 2 C195’s over the past couple years, I finally brought one home tonight. A hour and a half drive, and $250 later it was in the back of my truck on the way home. It definitely needs work, but I think I did alright. No 3 point, unfortunately. I plan on doing a refurb on it, but it will have to go to the back of the line for now. I can’t wait to get to it. With the C 195, my black hood collection is almost complete. The pictures aren’t the best, I will get it unloaded tomorrow night and take more.

I took advantage of the good weather and fabricating a new top steering bushing. as it turns out, it’s not the first repair, a piece of strut had been used to repair a crack in the dash at bottom of shaft hole. Wheel doesn’t flop around now, all good.

Another thing, when it's apart, Take the generator mounts off of the engine and clean the mounting surfaces so you don't lose any voltage because of rust and dirt. When I built my engine run stand I experimented with paint, rust and dirt on a mounting surface and dropped .6v just with a rusty lower genny mount.

Oh, yeah, I guess it depends on what engine we are talking about... I shoulda' thought of that... Indeed, come to think of it... the engine shaft on my L-157 is 1 inch... The shaft on my 800 Special is 3/4... Why do I feel like a discussion of shaft sizes... is not... appropriate... @Jeff-C175 @ebinmaine @Pullstart... Don

I use garage door cables available at any hardware store for a couple bucks. One end will have a crimped loop. Cut to length and use a small cable clamp to make the loop on the cut end. I also use old garage door springs to make lift assist springs. A solid rod would not work due to the twisted path from the lift lever to the rear hitch and the vertical movement of the two ends.

Awesome survivor! Are those 1045 front tires? I’ve got a 953 we call Chloe with that primer on it. It rarely needs a flick, we cruise it every week nearly. It sings my niece her lullabies…

So earlier today, before I was home... I texted the BBT to see what she was upta. I get this: Now last I knew that rig had a hitch on it. Turns out she was swapping out a weak welded hitch for the one I rewelded this past weekend. She also got the ripper spike put on. "Transport mode" so it's upside down.

I recently purchased a GT1800 with a blown engine with the intent of conversion to electric. This is my first Wheel Horse and I have never seen it running. I need a little work on it but it looks sound. I will not be hacking it up, If this project goes poorly, I would want to bring it back to stock operation with new engine. I will be creating a blog at some point to show conversation. Budget will be tight, I will be using parts from past projects, but motor will be new permanent magnet DC. Voltage will be 48v, as many old lithium batteries that I can fit in. I plan to retain pto clutch.

Got the sceptic system at our Mi. location squared away. Pump truck got here yesterday to pump the tank. Nothing notable was found that would be causing the slow drains. Tried a flush, yup, still slow. Got my 15' snake out and ran it into the clean out fitting just outside the house towards the tank. Didn't feel anything that felt like a plug. Still slow. Checked the length of snake vs the length of pipe - snake about 5' too short. Off to the hardware store and bought a 25' snake. Ran it all the way into the tank. Felt a little resistance, but nothing telling. Drain still slow. Make a phone call and ordered a plumber with a power snake. Says he can make it Friday afternoon. This morning, my wife is taking a shower and all of a sudden she hears a gurgling noise and the drain is running like it should. Only thing is, the bathroom sink still burps when the toilet is flushed. So I say to myself "self, that sounds like a vent problem". Get the ladder out, take the new snake up on the roof and run it down the vent pipe. That solves the sink burp issue. Got on the phone and canceled the power snake guy. Spent some time raking and burning for winter leaf cleanup. Made a big dent. Still have to rake out the flower beds around the house, then get a Horse and lawn sweeper around the lawn. We watched the robotics team at the World Championships in Houston, off and on through the day. At the end of the qualification matches, they are ranked #20 out of the 75 teams in our division. Tomorrow, 8 alliances of 4 teams each will be picked for the division championships. The 6 division champions will then go into playoffs for the world championship. There are 453 teams competing in Houston this week. The majority are from the U.S. Teams are here from Israel, Turkey, China, Mexico, Brazil, and probably a couple of other countries

When I saw the front bumper in this morning's post I figured it was @SALTYWRIGHT's 1045 but not seeing the diesel engine threw me off. Russ is a true gentleman and did some nice work on the 1054.

If you've even begun to consider this you should absolutely do it. 12 gauge is good for most everything. OE is likely 14 gauge. I use 4 gauge for my homemade battery cables. 6 really should be fine. If you don't already have the wire, try to find full copper. Not CCA. (Copper Clad Aluminum.) If you'd like a few feet of 14 gauge 7 conductor trailer wiring harness I'd be happy to send some. It is NOT original. That's what I use to rewire all of our Horses. Looking forward to seeing this.

Mowing??? Just got the 10 inches of snow melted off. Grass is no where near long enough to mow besides i would probably get stuck . My L107 with AGs barely made it through some spots towing only an empty trailer...

Spent the afternoon with the 314-8 and @ebinmaine old dump trailer. Havnt got around to fixing it up yet but it worked just fine for what I needed today. Moving all the left over sand from my pool pad and kids sand box. This sure beats a wheelbarrow 😆!

Just got these pics from the Daughter who took them while I was there getting the C-120 on Wednesday....Appears she wanted a few memories to hold on to when the Horse left the Stable that it was brought to NEW in 1975...She loved this tractor too !!!! Countless times she asked if I wanted to sell the Chevy....After 30+ years with it...and countless Wheel Horse acquisitions ...I told her not at this time.....

We used to do a lot of tent camping when I was a kid. My Dad would brush Water Lox on the tent when it was set up in the back yard. Never had a leak when it rained. Water Lox is another choice for wood floors like Thompson's Water Seal. I used Water Lox on my horse trailer bed some years ago. Still looks good.

60''s 70's hand brake cable. The ends will have a ball on them. Not sure about the later models.

Nice tractor! I would leave the second battery for the winch.

When I had a gravel driveway, the paper carrier and the mailman were in competition to see who could displace the most stone. I would place 4" to 6" stones in their rut, but that didn't faze them.

Thought that was Russ's tractor. Looks like you got plenty of room in the garage for it! I love driving my 953 soon to be 1453.

That looks like a really handy setup actually. That's the kind of non mower duty rig I'm thinking of for my C-100. More of a woods work/tow and puller machine. I like it!

It’s the dumbest, make no sense hat I could find on ebay. I had an uncle that would wear free hats that people give him and he came up with some doozies! Kinda a tribute to him.

That is a primer lever on the pump, just like you thought. Helps get gas up to the carb after you run the tank dry. Some Kohler's came with this handle, some didn't. I have a couple 60's models with the primer handle.

Don't know why most people use washed stone, it never stays in place. I always get crusher run it does a lot better but still moves around some in sharp turns.

The engine shaft is more likely to be 1”. If you up the engine pulley size too much, you’ll be into belt guard modifications, etc. Reducing the rear pulley size and belt length accordingly, it can easily be put back to stock.

A old Ford brake cable will work and I don't think you will break it.
