7 pointsI switched several of my Wheel Horses over to electric fuel pumps and the hard starting problems went away. Mount it on the frame lower than the tank, wire it to a circuit that is powered when the key is on (like the hour meter) and protect it with a fuse (5 amps is fine).

7 pointsSo this seems to be moving along at the snail speed of Colossus (Sorry Eric, couldn't help it! LoL) And the only thing I'm a master of is baiting. It's a lot slower going than things were 10 years ago. Had some time to fiddle around on this Friday afternoon, some yesterday and some today. Mocked up a little bit on the front end suspension by making brackets and such to see how it would look then realized something will need to be done about the steering geometry to avoid bump steering or at least minimize it. If the tie rod ends aren't positioned correctly it will bump steer on it's own as each axle moves up and down. Pretty sure it's figured out how to proceed with that and made some parts but it definitely consumed some time instead of getting more parts stuck on there. I realize the purists might jump on this for cutting those axles but I probably have 5 or 6 and picked the worst two to use. There's always a bunch down at the big show if you need one. I was going to use other type axles but needed these to be short as possible so the front isn't wider than the back. Those coil overs are kind of tall for this build as shorter ones would probably look better to scale but these were already in stock from a long ago purchase. .

6 pointsBoy it's been a minute since I've been on here. Life's been busy but I'm back. Anyway I got both my horses ready for the local garden tractor jamboree coming up next month. Oil changes and such.
-
6 pointsI spend a little more on the Napa 610-1051 which is the Facet pump but it costs more than online. But if there's an issue I can drive down the street , throw it at them and get another.
-
6 pointsNot adjustable. I have used both 2.0-1.0 and the 4.0-1.5 no issues. My problem with pulse pumps is if they fail they can suck fuel n the crankcase...

6 pointsA Wheelhore isn‘t just only a Working Machine, it becomes a Friend and a great Co It doesn‘t depending on it‘s Age, it is a Rock solid Buddy you can trust. It only needs a little care and with that it simply helps you every time reliable to do the Job. I.eg on Brooming Tilling Pulling Things Dump things plowing pushing Snow or Mole holes with a rear Rake combination Collecting leaves... There is nearly no restriction a Wheelhorse can do. 👍 need more addictions... 😎😂

6 pointsFinished up the flat black k181 today. It’s going in a B80 later this week.

5 pointsWell wouldn’t you know it I pulled the plow off the 753 and put the mower deck on it we are right on the edge of possibly 4” of snow. So for all you New Englanders it’s my fault. I tried to get a jump on it before Alex gets home and we concentrate on his tractors again. He put my hub caps on his 604 and I stole them back tonight. He probably will notice as soon as he walks in the garage tomorrow. The mower deck is back on the 416H too but I need to tube the tires. Let’s see those round hoods with mowers!
-
5 pointsThat deck should be wire brushed good and painted/coated....
-
5 pointsGrease is from the gears and bearings from the spindles. If the deck works well and is quiet, LEAVE IT ALONE!! These decks are a science all to their own, Little seals, thrust washers woodruff keys, snap rings & bearings. Plus the blades must be timed 90 degrees apart so they don't hit each other. Remove the gear covers and clean out any dirt and old grease and re-grease with a non slinging grease like Lucas Green grease. Buy a box of rags!
-
5 pointsFacet posiflo have several never an issue. Made in USA good enough for aircraft good enough for WH. There is a plate you can buy but you can make your own or leave the pump in place
-
5 pointsI'll third that ....if I wasn't such a dang purist.... My 520 #3 is the only tractor I have that has one. Turn the key & listen for the pump to change pitch as the bowl fills and she fires right up. Even after setting for months.
-
5 pointsAnd 27-30 is enough to have for when friends and family stop by for a ride!

4 pointsHey everyone, The town of Bridgewater Virginia has an annual Fireman’s Lawn Party the 3rd week in July. Basically a week long carnival with rides, parades, exhibitions, etc. The really cool thing is they have a strictly Tractor Parade on Saturday night and I have seen everything from steam powered tractors on steelies to riding mowers and everything in between. Most everything is beautifully restored with the occasional working tractor straight from the field covered in cow manure. The atmosphere is like something out of a Norman Rockwell painting. July 16th 2022 is the date for the tractor parade this year. Just thought I’d pass it along.

4 pointsWorked on the old iron project, one of those that looked like a easy one but is turning out to be more. Cleaned the gas tank, replaced the the threaded in cobbled up fitting with correct valve, new fuel line, and filter. Installed a replacement left axle seal, hub, key and sets. Went to town and got some non e gas. $5.18 a gallon. that price makes me feel so good!
-
4 pointsYou want to pull off those covers on top of the deck. 3 like 1/4" (maybe) screws on each. The grease zerk is in there under a bunch of grease. Clean all of that out. When you go to grease, only inject grease until it starts to come out the bottom of the deck. Wipe clean, replace the covers, if you do not have the plugs for the grease holes, replace them. They can be found at ACE near the electrical supplies. Wire brush the blades and the underneath of the deck. Check the balance of the blades, by hanging them on a nail. They should hang horizontal...if not...take some off the heavy side.
-
4 pointsI didn’t think I would get a second one but I did Now I need to find a mid mount grader blade for it

4 pointsMore parts came in…. Time to see if the engine will run…!!! This was bought not running! Was told only needed coil as it was blown up…. Redo your horse is having trouble get some material but will get it and ship out the decals soon!
-
4 pointsDoes this tractor have a battery ignition coil? Did some one by chance change the ignition coil? Or run a new positive wire to the coil, possibly eliminating a resistor wire? If a coil that requires an external resistor is installed on a Kohler, it will work until the voltage to the battery starts to increase as the charging system starts to work. I fought this issue on my C-145, thought that the charging system was pulling it down but really it was the wrong coil. Engine would run for a short while & then it would bog down almost like it was under load and quit. It would run fine with the regulator unplugged. I discovered that it had the wrong coil, installed a coil with an internal resistor and the tractor has ran great ever since.

4 points@stevasaurus does this look familiar?? Decommissioned now. It was the old "elephant cage" entrance. All the towers are gone now. Just the buildings. It has been deemed a bird sanctuary. With walking and bike paths.

4 pointsA nice 520-H is definitely worth the asking price. The last one I bought was $750, but it wasn't very nice. If the tranny is strong, and engine is running on both cylinders, you're at a good start. The 520 was a complex machine by comparison to other tractors, but was very well built. Just comb over it as well as you can. Drive it, and put it through it's paces. If you don't have experience with WH hydros, find someone who is that will go look with you. A strong Eaton will almost jump when you move the control lever, and do so without alot of whining. Drive it up a hill if you can. It should maintain speed uphill. Good luck. A good 520 is a great find. It will serve you for many years!
-
4 pointsI would think so. I used the cheapy 2-3 psi jungle ones on customers tractors with no issues. Yah Pacer worried about how long they would last cause guys report they had issues. Couple out there for two three years now and no complaints. The carb float should keep the engine from flooding out but if the carb inlet has got crap in it all bets are off. Filter in front of the pump then. I know when @dclarke put one on my 520 he used a better one but he's a classy guy!
-
4 pointsElectric, hands down!! and the Facet .... type? is preferable (there are after mkt clones (square shaped) also and I have had good luck with them) The MANY electrics shown on the bay can be ... overwhelming? But one type seems to have a high failure rate and that is the round shaped ones, would not recommend them....
-
4 pointsin those dimensions like Docs , did not know they make a 5x8 that can handle that much weight , my guess was he was pulling about 1600 there and most 5x8 I see are 1500 capacity
-
4 pointsNot so much for leaves, more for dirt and gravel grading.

3 pointsInternal short in the voltage regulator may be drawing the voltage down, possibly causing the coil to not have enough voltage. Just a thought. Maybe check the voltage without the regulator connected, and with it connected.
-
3 pointsGreat tractor if well maintained like anything else. I have owned this one for 20 years and other than a dirty carb along the way, I really can't complain one bit. Good Luck on your search.
-
3 pointsWent out in the pouring rain(by the bucket full ) and purchased a 2007 Cheby Silverado 1500 LT one owner 107,000.miles. @squonk Skunky you won't have to ride in a trailer now.
-
3 pointsAre those belts on the deck cracked? A fun adventure to replace them but easier than on the older decks. You'll be glad you bought that box of rags! Belt # Napa 3L370W

3 pointsI would wire it to the positive of the coil. If a safety switch is activated, the pump will shut down when 12V is removed from the coil. Much safer in my opinion, as it stops gas from pumping if the tractor flips over, and you're thrown off the seat.

3 pointsThere was a dealership down in Machias years ago. They had a box car full of new crate engines. All Buick 350s. Same reason. New out the door 500 bucks. So cheap it almost made me buy a Buick. Just to put a new engine in it lol
-
3 pointsWhen I was stationed in Winter Harbor, one of our gate guards, (a local from Millbridge, Me.), had a Lobster boat that was having engine problems. Turned out to be head gaskets. I tore the engine apart and fixed it for him...a Pontiac 389. As payment, he took 6 of us Cod fishing (hand lining) in that boat. We went out to the drop off (shelf), it was a foggy day and the sea was calm, like glass. You guessed it, I got sea sick. No bearings in the fog. Then the fog cleared and the sun came out...then I was OK. I caught one Blow Fish.

3 pointsI moved to Maine in July of 2000. I started working for the parts department of an extraordinarily large Chevrolet dealership. The manager was giving me a tour of the facilities and I noted that they had right there in stock.... A crate engine 292 straight 6. I was like.... WTH???? He looks at me and he says oh yeah. We sell one or two a year. I'm like, for what???? He says, lobstuh boats use 'um. Nothing quite like quiet morning in a desolate harbor and listening to a boat going from trap to trap to trap.
-
3 pointsYes, that is the place. Lived in Winter Harbor...drove around Prospect Harbor to get to the site. Thanks. The base was at the end of Schoodic Point, where Schoodic Institute is now. You've got to love Lobster boats.
-
3 pointsHere's a few pics from the hike we did yesterday. If you look closely at this one you can see the tower on the next peak over. We are standing on Hanson Peak and the one in the distance is the first one we hit, Green Mountain.
-
3 points300 hours is nothing for that tractor, if he maintained it properly, being a mechanic I would think he did. The price seems a little high but that tractor is a beast and will last for many decades. The 520 will handle a blade easily.
-
3 pointsDid you see that predator just released a new race version of the 212 , they call it the ghost 212 6000 k rpm
-
3 pointsYes, There's a tension adjustment on the coils themselves. If air bags weren't so expensive that would make a cool ride.
-
3 pointsMaybe a silly question but, what would a rake like this be used for? Leaves or gravel paths..??
-
3 pointsYour belt is routed wrong and that idler may not be installed right. Check the manual. This is what it should look like.
