13 pointsI got the two blackhoods out for the first time, the 8 speed, got a new to him M16 Kohler, still have to hook everything up. The hydro is apart from the beauty aspect done. Somehow I own 2 of the 3 blackhoods I have ever seen: heard of in Belgium.

12 pointsFinally found the time and wx to pull the C-101 8-speed out of the garage and snap a few following the winter 2022 refresh. I purchased this tractor May 1996, restored it and the 42" side discharge and put them to use cutting 3 of our 5 acres here in Virginia. At that time I decided to bump up the HP with a 12. She performed flawlessly for 10 years until I retired her to pulling a 5 x 8 trailer hauling fallen limbs & debris to our burn pile and purchased the Kubota B7800 with 72" belly deck. Most folks here where I live in Virginia had never heard of Wheel Horse tractors. Snapper & JD were always big names here.

11 pointsDoing today a Spring Full Service. Oilchange, complete grease job, check everything for wear like Clutch belt and so on... Sharpening the Blades, mount the Mower Deck give her a Testdrive. I love my „new to me“ reworked Carlift, because all things now can be made much more easier and faster and even Back friendlier.

9 pointsPicked up the new NAPA axle seal and oil filter. The filter is longer than the WH, but the extra length actually makes it easier to get a wrench on. The new seal is only 1/4" thick and doesn't have a rolled flange on the inner side of the outer metal ring. A little concerned about keeping the seal perfectly square to the shaft when starting the thin edge in the bore. I taped over the keyway and the flat that I filed on for the second set screw, and the seal slid right on. I was searching for a correct size pipe or washers to use as a tool to keep it square as it is tapped into the housing,,,,,,,Then I saw the perfect tool....the axle hub made the perfect slide hammer to tap the seal in place. Using the straw for an air vent speeds up the oil filling process and elimenates the burping. Also, If you use the dip stick to mark the straw, you can set the bottom of the straw to the full oil elevation. When the oil level reaches the end of the straw, the oill stops flowing and starts to belch. Of course after running to fill the new filter and operating the lift cylinder, I needed to add another quart. Back in operation, I tilled the garden again, removed the tiller and installed the 42" SD deck and mowed some right o ways. All is well ...no leaks.

7 pointsPlow came off the 308 a few weeks ago, hung the 36RD on it in preparation on the first mow . The deck is barely wider than the tires
-
6 pointsWell I know the first thing is going to be why are we going about it in the order we have been…. Two simple reasons one husband has ADHD no patients lol… the order the parts have showed up! Lol…. Just wanted to share the process so far! IMG_0094.MOV IMG_0088.MOV

6 pointsWell, stupid me forgot to get a picture while the tractor was on the trailer. I bought back my GT1600 that I sold in 2019. I put a completely rebuilt deck on it when I sold it and it is still in good shape. Apparently there was a mouse nest in it and he overheated it. I don't remember what I sold it for but I just bought it for $250.00. I figure the 42" deck is worth that much. I have the guards for it as well. I have not done anything to it yet, just pushed it into the shop.

6 pointsOne other thing to check. There is a vent hole in the carb for the float bowl. See if that is plugged. Air needs to escape when gas enters the bowl. If it can't escape through the vent then it will escape through the main jet. When this happens gas is forced through the main jet and pours out of the throat of the carb.

6 pointsI'm no expert either but I believe those fittings are cast iron which is a p.i.t.a to weld. Considering you have little experience I would say this turned out great. Might not be 'instagram-worthy' welding but you 'got er dun' that all that matters.
-
6 pointsI like the line.... But! It HAS been started. Hehehehehe.

6 pointsWhat I did Joe is mounted the tires on the rims but didn't seat the beads. Then bolted everthing up and mounted the whole shebang up on the mini changer and used it for the third hand. Adjusted the tires to get the stagger I wanted then seated the beads. Just thought the not lined up lugs looked better. Still rides a bit rough!

5 pointsBought mine off eBay. Just search “Wheel Horse Front Hitch” on eBay. Works great. Snaps right in front attach a matic… pics of mine on my C 105 and then pic from eBay.

5 pointsI use Briggs part number 221995. It's an anodized steel bowl. Much cheaper than the OEM part. Other than being steel it's identical in every other way. It costs about $7.00.

5 pointsJust got an idea for a future project I have an extended Suburban frame. With the engine closer to the rear axle, maybe I can make a pickup myself
-
5 pointsThanks for all the advice. I decided to see how splitting them now goes, while still pretty fresh. It was really easy, I have a fiskars splitting axe with the fibreglass shaft and it was a breeze. Maybe thati won't be able to move tomorrow but at least the wood is in for next year.

4 pointsHub one was on an old C160 A, Amazing how much effort was put into this half fast job. Bored and sleeved hub and installed on a very bad axle keyway / shaft. Hub 2 was on a auction tractor. using a breeze band stop and JB weld. A unique thing about this was I had to use the big hub puller and it came off with some resistance the entire way. What was cool the axle was still good!
-
4 pointsFunny you should say that Ed. A 856 I bought at auction last year came with a box of stuff. This was in it with some other home made tools. A 16 penny nail that was labeled the same way a detent spring depressor for transmissions. Guess we know the trannys been opened up before! Gotta like this PO.
-
4 pointsI was about to use a pipe in a pipe in a tube against some arbor spacers when I kicked the hub and the light came on.

4 pointsWe been working in the new garden site area tonight. Trina stopped on the way home from work and picked up some baled soil. We tossed it in the trailer and hauled it down the paths to the area. Trina was using her tractor with the mid mount grader blade to pluck out the big stuff and level the land. Me and the Mama were using hand tools to get rocks sticks roots etc out. Got quite a nice pile going and several smaller ones.

These WERE ALL RUNNING YEARS AGO but were packed away so you can guess they will NEED BATTERIES CARBS CLEANED ECT. He was sick for a very long time and these tractors have been SITTING FOR A FEW YEARS AT LEAST. I will describe them the best he can remember about them and what I saw. 4 pointsI dunno Envy I had a 161 that it needed to come out. Plan A was to heat it....Plan B was saw it off close, cut the threads and collapse it. Put a pipe wrench on it just for grins, proclaimed a bit of french, and came right out. Now if hubs & hitch pins came out like that! Saw Joe's cool rig at the BS last year. Said it should be a two seater....I think he said she rides in the back!

4 pointsWe had this big press one place I worked at. It had to be at least 100 tons. Guy was changing some u joints from an S-10 drive shaft. When the hammer and vise method didn't work he went to the press. All of a sudden BANG!!! Parts of that drive shaft skidded across the floor and under the bench where I was standing. He forgot to melt the nylon u joint retainers from the yoke!
-
4 pointsI know its not much compared to the volumes you guys deal with but it is good for us now energy prices have gone mental.
-
4 pointsSince we don't weld submarine or nuclear reactor parts, I think it's plenty good enough. I'm not a welder. But I can melt two peices of steel together so they won't come apart.
-
4 points20 pounds you are a glutton for punishment! That's gonna make them stiffer than a wedding ..... you know. The 6 plys I got here I run flat! Well... only cause the beads won't seat and won't hold air! Looks cool ????
-
4 pointsThe kit had the wrong needle in it. Metal on metal will never seal in this type of application due to engine vibration. Also, did you install the small gasket under the seat body? If your old needle looks decent try installing it with the new seat and see what happens.
-
4 pointsGot another steering shaft the one on it was hacked up
-
4 pointsCorrect. And, being a photo is worth a thousand words, here are two.

4 pointsAs long as the C-141 was out of hibernation and given the fact that we've had an un-godly amount of rain, I decided to hitch up the lawn roller to smooth out the lawn. Sophi followed me around for a bit & then all but demanded that she be able to copilot the affair. Given the fact that I was flying along at 3/4 throttle in low 1, it was good that she came along to help with the high speed maneuver's.
-
3 pointsAhhhhhh that 241 you went through? Dan @Achto you see what Ed did for a seal setter? We maimed one Ed cause we was being backyard hammers.

3 pointsI don't have a front reciever mount, but I do have a front hitch. I think this was a U shaped channel part from the walk behind tiller I cut apart and mounted on the front of the plow frame. It simply bolts to the face of the mule drive and does not interfere with the mule drives operation. I use it mainly for parking boats in tight spaces. I can also attach a regular drop pin trailer . Oh yeah, be careful not to bang into the grill when you're hooking up.

3 pointsPre Engine rebuild I might of given it all I had just to see what happens. But the rebuild is complete at this point so I chickened out
-
3 pointsDoing some break in. I know it’s not required for a roller rocker / hydraulic lifters engine, but it’s worth the extra $80 in my opinion. After 30 minutes, I’ll check the coolant level, change the oil, finish up the inner fenders, engine cover, skid plates, etc, and get the tires on for a test drive!

3 pointsNot meaning to hijack ANTPER's thread, but I didn't know about this either. This site has been such a valuable resource and the people here are so friendly, I'm going to become a supporter also. (I'm especially interested in the "Flood control" aspect of this -- we've had so much rain lately and I need a new sump pump. It will be nice to not worry about the floods any more. (just kidding... ) But seriously - If you need any help on the "techie" side, I've been in computers and IT since the mid- to late-1980's, and have hosted and moderated several forums in the past. I'm not retired yet so I don't have "unlimited" free time, but could certainly help out some, if needed. A question that's a bit more on topic - If we see something for sale and wonder if others might be interested, is it encouraged to post like this? And we can't post links to a Craigslist or eBay sale item? I just saw a 416-H posted on Craigslist near me for $800, original owner, looks like it's been well maintained, decent deck, etc. I don't have the bucks or I might grab it myself since I seem to have been infected with the WH "disease". -Dave

3 pointsI like the way it looked both ways, but y’all do great work @Jennifer and crew!
-
3 pointsIf you have a screw driver that provides a torque reading or is torque limiting then go for it. Most steering components of this type have a torque spec. To tight and the are hard to steer and will wear out quickly, not tight enough and the steering will have play in it and will wear out quickly. You can get away with "FEELS GOOD TO ME" on light duty off road equipment but for the big stuff that needs to produce you want the torque set properly.
-
3 pointsAlso make sure the surface where the bowl nut is flat so the bowl seals evenly top and bottom.
-
3 pointsHave you tried a new spark plug? They will fire on a visual test but not always under compression.
-
3 pointsMaybe not so much what I did “to” my Wheel Horses today, as “what” I did “with” them… I am all but finished the Work Horse refresh, so I figured I would put her in the tractor shed… I got my two horses in there with the two yellow and white machines, but it was a tight fit… Thought I was gonna have to toss a Cub outside !
