Build it, someone from Connecticut will see it and think it is a real jewel, hear they are worth a fortune there.

Quick story…… I was heading to the next town over from me to pick up a free Wheel Horse from a gentleman who knew I collected them. He gave me basic directions so I figured I’d drive around till I found his house. While searching for his house I happened to look in the backyard of a house and saw a C-141 8-speed. I kinda knew this wasn’t his house because he told me he had a lot of stuff in his yard. This place was the opposite. So I knocked on the door and a guy with a French accent answered, I asked about the tractor and he told me he just bought the house and it came with it. He said he had no use for it and I could take it! Since I already had ramps in the truck to pick up the other tractor and had a buddy of mine with me, I backed up to it and we pushed it into the truck. I then found the guys house I was looking for and the tractor he wanted to give me was rusted beyond repair. I politely declined it and showed him what I just picked up, we all couldn’t believe it! After bringing the tractor home I put a solenoid and a battery in it, cleaned the carburetor and it ran like a champ. A few months later I purchased a loader in Connecticut and the paint matched so perfectly it looked like it had been together its whole life. It has the wrong hood decals on it but they match the loader decal which I think makes it even better. Here it is with a couple others.

Today I applied a liberal coating of mud and muck to the tires and undercarriage while putting the muck forks to a much harder test. I bent one tooth a wee bit, but overall, it digs pack like a...like a giant pitchfork.

First cruise around the hood with the E 141. The highly discriminating test engineers rode around in the trailer without ear protection and loved it!!! They like the new locomotive for the SL&WHN RR. Full train testing with maximum loads will commence shortly - once we get more than 15-20 minutes of occasional sunshine…

I’ve posted my yard art machine here plenty of times. But here it is again. I paid up for it because I only wanted this style machine, anything newer just looks like you have trash in your front yard (just my opinion). This one had a Predator motor on it and red, white and blue paint all over it. I asked the seller about a price reduction if I left the Predator behind and he agreed. Wire wheeled the cheesy paint job off of it, let it get a little rust/patina on it and then shot the entire thing with a coat of clear to stop the rusting process. With no motor it looked kinda funny, so a small locked-up Briggs is sitting on it with a couple bolts to keep it in place. I love how some kinda green moss is growing on the Briggs! I will have to deal with the front wheels at some point. Or maybe put a couple pieces of rigid pipe in the ground to prop up and support the front end. Value? Priceless! I have never driven this one and I get as much enjoyment out of it as the ones I can drive around. NOT FOR SALE

I traded a barely running and nothing seemed to help it Raider for a 60 Suburban with no engine and seized transmission. The Suburban is yard art and 2 people have already wanted to buy it. BBBBBBBBBBBWAHHHHHHHHHHAAAAAA!!! Didn't notice Connecticut plates but I will keep an eye out!

And let's not forget "ran when parked", "will run with TLC" - that stands for Tomorrow with Lots of Cash

Gave the C121 a bit of a workout today. Rolled about an acre and a half just to see if it would pull two at the same time. I ended up with three, the 4ft vintage flat roll, the 4ft vintage “Heavy” Cambridge roll, and my homemade flat roll made from an old oxygen cylinder! Even where the ground was really soft and wet I still had traction, (underground spring), grass is always lush, even in a heatwave! Jane videoed me at one point, then it was her turn! I was w.o.t. Thank you. After I fixed it up I asked @Vinylguyto make me a custom set of decals that would match the original side badging. He knocked it out of the park. I had a red deck at first but decided would look better black. It's been fun making it " different " but still keeping it a true Wheel Horse.

Some of my former coworkers would fit in that category! Dead weight is basically non-rotating weight. Wheel weights and loaded rear tires would not be considered dead weight.

I keep trying to explain that to my better half. I'm working on her a little at a time though. She does like to help cut the grass so I bought her a 312-8 yesterday, number 6. When we went to check the tractor out I had her sit on it, I asked "Does it feel comfortable to you?" She would cut here and there on one of my other horses, no seat springs, hard to reach the pedals. She said "I like this one it's really nice, nice seat and I can reach the pedals, too." And so it begins....

Well another fun day " if it is not broke you haven't looked at it ". Decided to work on flat tire. Put on handy dandy HF small tire do hickey. Front side no problem, back must have been glued on . Took an hour but I won. Checked inside of rim, brown weld every where. Put it aside, time for lunch. Finished feeding face , decided to cut grass , went to move 312-8 out of way, rear tires low, one front tire flat ( has a tube). Aired all tires up, moved it out of shed. Fired up the 120a , made 3 passes in front yard and it died. Checked gas etc can't find problem. Finally got tow valve open , hooked it up to 312-8 , pulled to shed. Too dang heavy to push in shed, neighbor not home. Found come along and only took about 45 minutes to get in shed. Looked at 312-8 front tire almost flat Son of a B . Enough cussing for today , locked shed up went in house, cup of coffee and a smoke. Then a shower , getting dressed and cat bite me. Past her dinner time. I think I am going to stay in bed all day tomorrow. Hope I don't fall out of bed and break a bone.

Yeah that's a pretty good explanation. All I would add is the year ranges. There are exceptions to ALL rules with Wheel Horse, but it generally goes like this: Pre 1960: Ride Away Senior (RS-XX), Ride AwayJunior (RJ-5X), and Walk Away two wheel tractors. 1960-65: models by hp, starter type, last digit of the year. Several models broke the rule (like 701), but generally like 401- 4hp, recoil start, 1961. 854- 8hp, electric start, 1964. 1054- 10hp, electric start, 1964. Also introduced see Lawn Rangers during this period. 1966: the starter type was dropped for some models in favor of transmission type: 867- 8hp, 6 speed, 1967. 877- 8hp, hydrostatic, 1967. 1046- 10hp, 4 speed, 1966. 1968-72: Commando, Raider, Electro, Charger, Bronco. 1973- no name tractors. HP and tranny type. Ex. "12 Automatic" was 12 hp and hydro. 1974-84: Several revisions of A, B, C, and D series. 1981 changed the body style to black hoods. 1985-2007: 300, 400, 500 series, ending with the "classic" label the last couple years.

If you can trust the label, it claims 9w power consumption per lamp. Mr. Ohm says W ÷ V = A. So 9 ÷ 12 = .67 amps each. So less than 1.4 amps together. If the only other loads are charging the battery and running the tractor, you will be just fine. BTW: - lumens is a measure of brightness or total quantity of light energy in the visible spectrum (i.e. light humans can see) - K is a measure of the color of the light (6000K is a very white light with a tinge of blue, lower numbers have more yellow) Enjoy!

If you take a look at the big boy pulling tractors you will see that all the added weight is low for added stability. Hooking low also adds stability. Many garden tractor pullers have an adjustable weight bar at the front that allows the weight to be extended forward to suit the traction needed for that track. Dan @Achto says weights are for sissies!

Either way, it’s another Horse in your shed and dedicating it for your wife keeps her involved.

We have all seen them, dead WH tractors in the front yard as a lawn ornament, one last stop before the scrap yard. Some of the members have posted pictures of theirs. My questions are - what is the resale value of something assembled from a mish-mash of 3rd rate parts? Better to sell the parts individually? I realize that beauty is in the eye of the beholder (buyer). I have enough not-really-usable stuff kicking around here to assemble one - an 854 broken frame, noisy 3 speed unidrive, siezed up 5HP Tecky, and some awful looking tin. Comments please. Bill

Oddly enough, I just ordered one for the K341, as the diaphragm’s leaking. Not that dripping gas right next to the muffler is a problem or anything…

@TJ Salyers This might be the answer to the dead weight thing.

You're looking at a lot of typing here to answer this question...so here is the short answer. It has to do with Wheel Horse being sold a couple of times and who is running the company. Your Charger is from an era when they named them according to the AFC football teams of the day. Then they leaned toward the "B", "C", & "D" series...these became the 300, 400, & 500 series. The "B" is the 300, the "C" is the 400 and so on. That is the easy answer.

Been working on brake linkages. The left side I'm very happy with, especially with keeping the factory parking brake system. Still haven't finalized what I'm going to do on the right yet. The drive belt is in the way to allow discrete routing of a rod. The rod for the right pedal may end up on top of the floorboard, but at least it will be inwards close to the belt guard. Will have to fabricate a cover over it.

@ebinmaine - yup, all these parts are 3rd rate - not worth the time and money to fix any of them. Even got a frisky pan seat - the one with the open crack that pinches your backside - I'd be glad to see that go... Bill

I was a day late when I posted last week and I’m going to be a day early this time! Hopefully that’s okay. One wheel never got painted to match the rest. I didn’t get around to painting the front letters, to highlight wheelhorse! Husband said I can’t now because it is sold. She leaves tomorrow to her new home! 😢 IMG_9971.MOV

I forgot about those guys. They hooked me up with some parts for an ancient Accord some time ago that I thought were non existent.

Is it a lever style pump? I'd rebuild. There are generic kits available all over the interwebs. Can't speak for quality. Then and now automotive in Massachusetts sells a kit that's known to be good quality. Also.... Seems more and more folks are switching over to electric fuel pumps.

It appears that you didn't remove the blades and ground off the bottom, if so that is not correct. The blades need to come off and the angle ground on the top side till sharp. Also, the blades should be balanced and that can't be done while installed. Anyway, your blades are seriously worn and it is time for replacement.

This was outside my wife's "office" today. Not sure if the Easter bunny is the leader of the dark side or their prisoner. Haven't gotten the whole story yet.

Problem is, This makes Wheel Horse number six. I don't have anymore room in the shed and I sure don't want any of them sitting outside. Time to devise a plan for another Horse barn. And by the way, thanks for all of your support in this crucial matter.
