10 points@redsquarebob I got this k341 at around 700 hrs. It was neglected. Oil like tar and it smoked. I put in Rotella 30W and ran it for 10 years. First couple of oil changes the oil came out like crude. 2 years ago at 1000 hrs. I finally had to tear it down as the balance gears were rattling. This is a picture of inside the engine when I pulled the pan. I didn't clean a thing.

10 pointsHere’s a short list of the people who are NOT allowed to drive any of my tractors. 1/ @wallfish 2/ 3/

9 pointsTook a bit of a walk today. 4.7 miles. Pretty good elevation gain. Around 1457 vertical feet. It's a VERY old colonial settlement area. Several cellar holes and some excellent old stone walls. Enjoy!!

9 pointsI wanted to add a bronze sleeve bushing to the forward section of the lower steering shaft on the 502. The idea was to undercut the forward 3/8" to accept a 5/8 ID x 3/4 OD bushing and tap the end for a 5/16-18.retaining bolt. The hole in the frame was in great shape - the end of the steering shaft was not. I did not want to remove the fan gear as it was rust welded quite well and solid in place. I tried to run the shaft at the lowest lathe speed, but the off centeredness set up a bad vibration. @peter lena may have seen something like this where you add a part to balance off the shaft 180 degrees from the offending part. I saw this done at work 8 or 10 years ago when a line shaft support bearing failed on a cam driven machine and the idea was the same - to sleeve it. The cams were external profile cams, not "Box" cams that capture the roller on upper and lower. The Machine Shop foreman added clamps to "Balance" the off center load. I happened to be in the shop when they started the lathe - he told me "You MAY not want to stand there." It was uneventful as was mine. Still not something taught in Shop 101 or 102...

9 pointsI finally have my rear lift rockshaft and cable setup installed on my 314 Hydro Wheel Horse. Put the trunnion on the rear cable today with the lift chain for tiller and hitches. Takes a while to get it all set up correctly but works great when finished.

5 pointsBack on the 520H, I busted the brake lever off of the shaft when I removed it. thought I could run a die on the shaft and double nut a lever in place. I over tightened the lock nut and snapped the shaft off at the old pinhole. Not thinking the shaft is pretty soft and I ended up welding a bolt on in it's place and it all worked out good. I like it because I can locate the lever where I want it up, or level. Put seat pan on with new lights and the seat, looking okay. Got to dig out a deck and might start the season with it to make sure it runs good. Thinking it may have to go cause room is at a premium...... not sure yet.

5 pointsThat's for newer engines with tight tolerances, oil pressure, oil filters. Your 12 hp Kohler ain't one of those, just do it.

5 pointsHad big plans today to pull the engine off the C81 we brought home a couple weeks ago. But decided this morning to get the new mower out of the barn and make sure it would start before it comes time to mow. Walked in the barn and discovered a bunch of wood we had salvaged and had stored in the rafters was about to come crashing down due to the weight. So my plan then became get some of the weight off the rafters. In the process I found some old posts we had salvaged last summer, and decided they would work perfectly around the Case yard art tractor. So I spent the day working on that project, needless to say the blown engine is still bolted in the C81 LOL

5 pointsI can tell you one thing for sure. Race cars have motors. “My motor builder”, “broke a motor”, “that guy’s got a lot of motor” “too much motor for that track” “not enough motor to get the job done” and many more are things you hear about every Friday or Saturday night in small town USA.
-
5 pointsMotors are electric. In the army during WVMS, if you called an engine a motor you were doing pushups....
-
4 pointsWhat kind of plow? Snow or garden? Either way, you bought a plow and got a free tractor with it!

4 pointsSpent over 1 hour on FaceTime today as “WH tech support” with my sister in KY that I got the 417-A for a few months back. My other sister from IN was visiting her and they decided to tackle installing the tiller. I think in the end it was a good time had by all especially me since I didn’t have to do any heavy lifting and in the end, the garden plot got it’s first till. I let them know that I was proud of them and they should be proud of themselves because in my opinion, this is the hardest WH attachment to install and it only gets easier. IMG_0051.MOV

4 pointsHumm...I see there's still some empty spots left open on that "short" list.
-
4 pointsSomeone? many yrs ago 'splained it to me this way --- short & sweet! Motor - derives it power from an external source (lectrics, etc) Engine - creates its power by converting .. something (gas/steam/etc) Obviously that still doesnt completely cover it, but narrows it down a good bit

4 pointsjust another internal drawing All the oil in the 1100 is moved via porting integral to the rotating group. Any debris, in the charge circuit, from valves, hoses, etc would get caught in the filter prior to entering the hydro for use. The design is excellent and reinforces the importance of a good quality filter. The check valves just lay in drilled holes and really can't get out. I put a note in the drawing if you hand push the machine and hear clicking coming from the hydro that is the acceleration valves, a good indication the springs are good.

4 pointsNow for confusion. Electric motor driving the car But cars use Engines!

4 pointsWhen Jane and I married 42 years ago next month, we decided, I would do the cooking, Jane would do the washing up.👍 Then we bought a dishwasher. Guess who gets to load the dishwasher! 🤔
-
4 pointsGlad to help as always. That's what I was always taught. Agreed. Damn boats..... Ain't so out east here. Local vernacular is different. Race cars have ENGINES. “My ENGINE builder”, Out here - “broke a motor” is translated to "blew an/the ENGINE" “that guy’s got a lot of ENGINE” “too much ENGINE for that track” “not enough ENGINE (or "power") to get the job done” Me too. Then try to remember to correct my horrific mistake. 😀😀😀
-
4 pointsIn dutch we have no translation for engine. we use motor for both and a motorbike is also called a motor
-
4 pointsThey replaced my Motor AND Transmission... WHO DOES THAT? Uhhhhhh... MECHANICS DO THAT DUDE! I'm with the GASOLINE = ENGINE, ELECTRICITY = MOTOR folks! But, I do sometimes slip and call it a motor.
-
4 pointsWhen it's mounted on any kind of vehicle, it's a motor. When it's on the work bench, it's an engine.
-
4 pointsAfter I made sure it fit I checked how much lift I will have. Looks like about 8". I think that will work for my needs. I removed it from the tractor and built a bracket to support it from the bottom of the transmission as well as the top and axle housing.
-
4 pointsI had to weld on some hood retainers (rear) on my GT14. My salvaged Miller spot welder did a nice job so a bit of sanding and throwing on some paint ( I do not have a paint department and body work/painting is my least favorite activity) Paint is adequate but Terry's new decals make it work!!!
-
4 pointsI hope the last snow has fallen for this winter. Cleaned up the blade and the 520HC. Lots of snow has melted but will be a while before grass cutting season.

3 pointsLol ...good pic ther Ed. ... relax fellas ..... I always carry when working around the ranch and a bit beyond. Had an 'oppsum that wanted to get unruly with me once and normally they scoot at the first sign of trouble. This guy was definitely disturbed but he went to catfish and turtle food. Bob now I think in talking with my neighbor thought his chickens were pheasants ... understandable. He even told me he could suffer a few losses in chickens if he thought the Bob would stand a chance of breeding around here and we have a huntable population here. Not likely as we think this guy is just passing through. Just not enought deep forests to sustain them. Plenty of rabbits tho. Still a good photo op.
-
3 pointsCheck this out guys... helped a guy about 1/2 mile down the road and he had this in his yard yesterday. Couple other neighbors saw it to. He's been hanging out near a shooting preserve where then release pheasants so ya know what he's been snacking on. Looks healthy & sure does have cool markings.

3 pointsBack in 1959 I went to a birthday party. Part of the party involved a trip to a factory. My friend's grandfather had a big ole 1957 Buick. When it came time to take the trip, Grandfather said "I'll take all the boys in my motor". Well, I was confused. I only knew a motor as something that ran off electricity. So, some of the terms that have caused confusion are: MOTORway MOTORboat MOTORcycle MOTORist MOTORmouth RocketMOTOR One of the definitions of MOTOR is "to move", so I guess that anything that propels something could be referred to as a motor. I personally will say that the internal combustion thing that moves my tractor an ENGINE.
-
3 pointsMy Eatom has not given me any problems but a high pitched whine is fluid bypassing like @JoeM said. The Acceleration Valves are passing a significant amount of fluid because of the "O" Ring. I have had a similar problem with the Sundstrand Hydros. Please let us know if you dive into this problem so we can all follow along. If your decision is to replace it with a good used unit I would suggest you call Lincoln at https://a-ztractor.com/

3 pointsThx for the complement and for the replies. It’s not going to be a worker, although I don’t want weeping oil dripping, I replaced that seal a couple days ago and the next morning it was leaking. I think I’ll shop around for another axle. One these days when I’m gone one of the kids might want it so I want it to be right.
-
3 pointsI’m with Craig on this one but @OutdoorEnvy through a curve ball with the boat motor thing! Everyone calls it an outboard motor not an outboard engine. Now I’m confused and don’t know what to think other than most of them will give you problems at some point!!
-
3 pointsOk 'Apples now you made me WVMS and all I could come up with is Willamette Valley Mushroom Society. Please tell me there is more and you haven't pinned your hopes on a fungus. I stole that from Jack Nicolson and a few good men movie. I didn't know you was in the Army?
-
3 pointsEither works for me… Call it what you want. Just don’t call me late for dinner… Edit:

3 pointsIn the early years the keys were listed as a part number only with no dimensions or Woodruff identification. There was a site with a reverse look-up for part numbers years ago. One could enter a part number and each illustrated parts list would come up with the part description. Most had "key" only but the odd ipl would have dimensions or the Woodruff identifier or a superseded part number one could search so one knew what it was. What I learned was recorded and added to a chart. Keys are sized by the cutter that is used to make the pocket so key size is larger than the actual key. This 3-page chart lists the key size and the actual key dimensions. This 8-page chart lists the Wheel Horse part number and the Woodruff number It was copied from a searchable database but since it is no longer searchable the results are mixed up. You have to look for the correct line.
