Greetings, Here is my first Wheel Horse, a ‘68 Charger 12. Along with it came the 42” Mower Deck and 42” Plow Blade. Overall, I think it is in pretty good condition. So far, I have done the following: •Changed Oil •Cleaned Air Filter •Changed Spark Plug •Cleaned Fuel Filter •Changed and Greased All Fittings •Welded Broken Seat Bracket •Installed Plastic Wire Looms •Washed and Waxed •Sharpened Blades I will be swapping in an AGM battery and replacing the cracked V Belt on the mower deck. I look forward to learning from you all on this forum how to keep these machines wheeling and working for years to come. -Brian Koch

I’ve been watching one niece weekly since she was 5 months old. She’s close to 4 now. I don’t have her little sister very often but todayI have her and it happens to be her first birthday. Sleep good little ones!

I’m not 100% convinced it is a 416…motor looks like a transplant so it could be a 310 or a 312 that someone dropped a K341 into. If that was the case it might have the “weaker” 4 pinion with 1” axles trans. The motors were black on the 416’s and they had a real muffler and not a stub of pipe with that pepper pot style mufffler screwed on. Not saying it isn’t worth checking out, but look it over real good. And the asking price is really high in my opinion.

This is a 33 year old picture as of June this year. Would be nice if you could walk into a dealership and buy another one. I am very fortunate to have been able to purchase, keep and maintain this all these years. Very grateful.

The sheet metal I used for the hood extension was the jacket from the outside of a home hot water tank. For the tower I had to buy a piece. Before these pictures I made a paper template and transferred it to the metal. Tape, instead of a marking pen was used for the cutting line. Now that it is made and a good fit, I better make precise holes.

A good hardware store may even have a 3/8 flange head bolt 3 1/2" long that would work. If you want to get crazy you could even get flange head bolts and extra thick washers from McMaster -Carr. Lots cheaper and easier than replacing the engine! www.mcmaster.com

@Travas It would really be a good idea to replace ALL the head bolts. All bolts are "stretch to yield" to some degree. Many head bolts in bigger engines are even Single use. If one broke... In all seriousness... Replace them ALL. Whether it broke because of rust or overtightening they are all in the same general condition. Many manufacturers consider hardware to be Standard Parts. I've done Parts tech work for GM, Ford, and Chrysler and all three do so. These head bolts are likely an easily accessed hardware bin piece.

A trip to the hardware store will set you up. You can match the bolt diameter, thread pitch and length in a grade 8 bolt. Use a flat washer under it, Do not use a lock washer. Note: always put a little oil on the threads of your head bolt before installing it. All head bolt torques specs are published as a lubricated thread.

Moving along a little bit. Carburetor and fuel pump cleaned up and rebuilt then both were sealed in ziploc bags until they are installed. Dash panel is sprayed with my rendition of a brushed aluminum finish. I spray the dash with Duplicolor silver wheel paint. When it dries I use Scotchbrite to make machine brush stokes in the paint, taking care so that the scratches only go one direction. Then I use Duplicolor wheel clear to gloss it up. All ready for Terry's 3 piece dash decal set. With any luck I will be blowing some red paint around this weekend.

It is missing the tins on the head. Tells me it’s been apart before. And neglected to be repaired correctly.

The 1 year old must have partied pretty hard with Unc today. She slept 2 hours on the tractor ride! Notice some of the mud from the sticky situations peppered on her face

Cruising on the 310-8 That thing runs so well! The kids snooze way longer than not riding behind a tractor!

Typical tractor flipper a cheap can of spray paint and they think it's worth 1000 more than what he paid for it It a nice setup for the garden if you can for a more realistic price. It's a alot without knowing the history behind it

You wouldn't use a high ZDDP in a modern gasoline engine in a car or truck because it could screw-up the catalytic converter but it good for old engines. Motor oils made for diesel engines have zinc dialkyldithiophosphate (ZDDP) in them as an anti-wear ingredient. I buy the 30 weight diesel motor oil.

Never thought I would see you on a maroon stripe Kev, thought they were a little too new for you. Welcome to the club. @Pullstart 310-8 Great model, nice power range, more than I expected and sip fuel.

When I was driving mine last summer a neighbor stopped me and said "Cute tractor, but haven't you outgrown it?"

Here's a yellow one ... I suspect he came from the same crew as the guys who think they should be painted green. Or maybe a recovering Cub guy??

If you use the 252417-0664-01 engine as listed for the GT-1100 a head bolt 94565 replaced by 592244 shows up. Listed as 3-9/16" long here https://www.psep1.biz/arinet.asp#/Briggs_%26_Stratton/252417-0664-01/Head/252417066401/69280003 Photo https://www.partstree.com/parts/briggs-and-stratton-power-592244/ The 3-9/16" length may be the overall length and not the way this type of bolt is measured. The squares in the photo are 1". Measure what you need.

Welcome I have 6 Charger electros they are great machines you will love it Change hydro fluid. If it is red it is ATF use Dex/Merc If it is tan it has been changed to motor oil 10w-30 or 10w-40 ...Do not mix ATF and oil. I run ATF in mine. Works great. Filter is Wix 51410

Fuel prices might limit us from bringing BOTH rigs… but the Senior, Lever Steer and the Snowmotractor have reservations in the toy hauler for sure.

Tomorrow is the day...ended up that I am going to have to go pick up the tractor after work...he was going to deliver it as she had two mowers he was supposed to deliver around this area anyway. But those deliveries canceled so I have to go pick it up, which isn't too bad as I really needed to go to town after some oil/filters/other supplies that I try to keep on hand anyway. If it's not too late when we get back tomorrow I'll post some better pictures, either that or Saturday morning

Those are not original either, the original was one size fits all.
  34. 3 points
No can do Lee not original ... we tend to be purists here and these will last another fifty years or so. Thing is and speaking for Dan this will not be a trailer queen and not a true worker but rest assured it most likely get put in dirt after done. Only one thing you gotta know about Dan is TJ when he gets on a resto project or custom he gets tunnel vision and and really works it till it's done. No screwin around ...Prolly kills him more than anything waiting for paint to cure. Wished I had than kinda git up and go with my projects. I'm more along the lines with EB's projects....

416-8 is a good strong tractor, the only downfall is that it has an Armstrong lift rather than the electric lift. That tiller will give you a workout. Depending on the condition of the engine, transaxle and steering I would guess $ 600 to $ 700 would be a ballpark price.

This may become like the "gold" coleman lanterns and be worth 100 times as much due to the color!

  43. 2 points
Yeah 3 hr drive to see it's a bit over priced and a franken horse. Sparky nailed it I'd have ta pass on that one.
  44. 2 points
Hard to be sure but the tiller tines look pretty worn... replacement is big $$$
  45. 2 points
I’m right here fellas! @jeepdan the tape is for alignment. My eyecrometer took care of the rest.
  46. 2 points
Made in China. Some plastic internal gears. Takes courage to own one. Look for a Kohler Command instead.
  47. 2 points
So the best scenario is a tractor with hydraulics if u use a tiller?
