9 pointsSince I am on street frequently plowing this should make it safer and easier on my neck.
-
9 points@Pullstart just a guess on that , but those owl's are silent killers , that could explain the lack of related tracking, watched a great horned owl in Montana take out a prairie dog , that was incredible, silent swoop ,talons , beak bite , lift off. BTW, KEEP IT GREASY ! , PETE

8 pointsWrong season, didn't have time to put plow blade on before snow. But here's a front shot of my 1257.
-
7 pointsMore work today! Photos from Greencastle, Indiana. The National Weather Service says we received 7.6 inches in the Landon Snowstorm. A8D3F412-3D7F-459B-AEF3-28A531D20E5D.MOV

6 pointsthe last time I was there for self inflicted injuries, my deep cut turned into a stab wound… then they asked me to not say stab. It gets the authorities involved.
-
6 pointsI made that seat just to see how it would look and I remembered Richard @953 nut was doing a lot of parades so I offered it to him free of charge.. But he said he would probably not need it. So I started thinking about who would use it and @Pullstart came to mind. The rest is history. I'm glad your using it.

6 points@ebinmaine closest call I ever had , pontoon boat , kick fin, fly fishing , park city utah. saw an eagle in the area , we were very close to flaming gorge np . casting forward to a fish , that eagle came in just over my head to take a trout , next to the one I was casting to, the eagle got the fish , I didn't , all in total silence , this was also mountain lion country , game fences around the ranch were 25 ft high . pete

6 pointsMy 867 and Bronco have ended up being the same. The PTO on the Bronco actually was taken off the 867 (even though it didn't come with one), and has since never been used. I don't even have a belly hitch on either of them. They will be used for pulling things. If that is never more than my big behind, that's fine with me. I have a Toro Groundsmaster that I'm thinking of adding an FEL to. It's got the frame and bulk to handle it, and would support the load much better anyway. Someone already did it, and I like it! If you're anything like me (God help you if that's true), my projects tend to radically change during the course of the build. Again, that is part of the fun for me!

5 pointsLast I heard, there are openings here at the State Psychiatric Hospital here in Kalamazoo. It's a ten minute drive from my house, I'll visit you.
-
5 pointsAll righty then 62 pages and we have yet to see a tractor ... just sayin but glad to see you havin fun! Wake me up when you got a workin tractor fellas... Might have to have the same response on Hosen's snomo Bull S thread but still would be much more impressed he showed up at plow day with a competent workin mule! Luv ya boys!
-
5 pointshey y’all. No shorts or flip flops today. Part of my brain is on this hill from a spill a couple years back, so the kids finally convinced me to put the rest in a bucket. @SylvanLakeWH two lift tickets, $30 total. The day hasn’t sucked!
-
5 pointsWe've seen that too. We've also seen everything go still and silent at the bird feeder - then have seen a hawk or the shadow of a hawk go by. My wife bought a Britnay pup home a number of years ago. We were living on 5 acres at the time. We had to keep an eye to the sky when he was out in the yard until he grew beyond the cute little puppy stage.
-
5 pointsWhile sitting in the kitchen on day watching the bird feeder a Coopers Hawk swooped in and took a bird right off the feeder.
-
5 pointsAdventure? Sure! During last week's snow, I took a flexible flyer down the hill they call "terrifyingly exciting" and set the day's distance travelled record! And without a crash helmet, too! After that, they all wanted to ride with me.

5 pointsNo sir, it is not. I just figured if I used the word that I mumble when my neck is hurting, it might invite a moderator intervention! I'm wiser, calmer, and more patient now than I was 30 years ago. Everything thing else about aging sucks!

5 points@peter lena I had to admit… this is the first post in a while that I’ve seen from you that doesn’t say “keep it greasy” I was befuddled at the lack of predatory tracks. I never though airstrike. Great observation!
-
5 points@Pullstart put my money on an owl strike , not to much around it for sign. owl's around us start at first light , seen similar damage on a yard walk . pete

5 pointsThis better @ebinmaine? As copied from the Colossus thread…. I found a 10” extension kit by Powermadd. It works with all brands, except a late model Arctic Cat or something. Chalk up another $35.34 on the board for this project Silvia. It’s getting expensive!
-
4 points@WHX?? I bet this thing will pull a mule… skis and all… just sayin’ could be revolutionary… I mean… I mean… if just one just one of @Pullstart’s creations were to work… and then it was joined by another, that worked… it’d be a revolution… a plowin’ revolution… maybe not…
-
4 pointsI love you Kev and yes you always be my bro... BUT I'm not gonna like anything in this thread until we DON'T have to follow you with a on the plow field.... Any ideas for a competitive plow mule???? Just sayin....

4 pointsWhaddua they going to do? Arrest and charge you for assault and battery on yourself?
-
4 pointsLong day at work, but someone’s gotta show them young whippersnappers how to be awesome!
-
4 pointsWell looks like my 5 year old battery on my C 105 might be toast… Always on a floater and perfect performance until this morning… No complaints… Excellent performance… I’ll be swapping out the one I use for lights on the predator swap… no more lights on that one until I replace the 3 on the E 141 this spring… I’ll use one of those, add some needed weight and give me lights…!

4 points@Pullstart, Just started wondering if you have a "frequent visitor" status at the local ER?
-
4 pointsYou are a very bad man and that has trip to the ER stamped all over it! Awesome build so far

4 pointsNo Regerts, I don't think I had seen your Lever thread before. They are neat tractors. Congrats on getting one! I'm not much of an authority on their evolution. The Ponds were using scrapyard parts and I wouldn't be a bit surprised if they started drifting away from the Model A stuff in the period they were building the Levers. I don't think it's any kind of stretch to think that yours might have been the transition model between the first (Lever) version and the improved (Senior) version. It could be that yours is a late Lever, but perhaps it's also an early Senior. The Levers were about as crude of a machine as one could imagine. Since they started life as a bit of a kludge of parts that were stuck together it's not inconceivable that those that adopted them were also willing to weld and make changes to them as they went as well. I would think, however, that it would have been an unlikely change for a past owner to swap out the original transmission for a newer version. At some point before that thing became an antique but after the newness had worn away it would have just been considered an old tractor without much value. Regardless, it's a keeper. Glad it found your home. Steve

4 pointsHere too. There's a deer butcher place about 1.7 miles away. In the fall his lower pasture edge trees are just right full of Turkey Vultures and Bald Eagles.
-
4 pointsHad a tawny owls nest half way down the bridleway a few years back. Was a no go area for a while.

4 pointsIn situations like this it’s usually better to use two bushes and leave a small gap in the middle, or use a one piece bush, full length with a ‘relief’ in the centre. The idea is to reduce the ‘Barreling’ effect, (rocking), as the outer ends of the bushes wear due to side loads, but the centre only wears through turning. Leaving a space in between the bushes also provides a lubricant reservoir, and moves the pivot, (leverage) point away from the centre. Not much, but every little helps. @ranger - excellent sound engineering advice - the gap is a perfect spot to hold Pete's @peter lena favorite green chassis grease... Bill

4 pointsI've had 2 encounters with young Barred Owls in the road near here. One flew off to the edge when I backed past it to check on it. The other was much younger and apparently didn't know the asphalt wasn't the best place to be. I stopped the car, threw on the hazzard lights, and called Inland Fisheries and Wildlife. (Game Wardens). They advised me to get the biggest stick I could find (and carry) to gently convince it out of the road. They asked if I could see the parents and I could, but couldn't see well enough to identify between Barred and Great Horned. The guy I was talking to said if it was Great Horned I'd have already known it. I'm like ok ...why? He said a Barred Owl won't generally attack a human but a Great Horned would have swooped at me for being too close to the kid. 🦉 🦉 🦉 🦉 🦉

4 pointsFor snow work, I absolutely think that mirror is great! I'm finding the older I get, the harder it is to turn around far enough to see behind me. Arthur has settled in on my neck, and it flipping hurts. This has me thinking I need some rear view mirrors that can easily move from one machine to the other.
-
4 pointsWell played Pete. We have a fair assortment of predatory flyers here on the side hill in the nesting season. Great Horned Owl and Barred Owls are common.
-
4 pointsWe got around 12". The Raider 14 did the job but struggled some. Decided to use the tracked skidsteer for the neighbors drives.

4 points@Pullstart is correct (he was a shoe & die maker!!) it is all about the setup. - As noted do the axle pivot hole FIRST - use it in the spindle setup. Since my photo leads off this topic - there are a few distinct advantages to using a milling machine instead of a drill press for this task - The machine has a digital readout - makes life easier. Variable speed spindle - slow for drilling and reaming, fast for fly cutting. Fly cutting - I fly cut the backside of the center hole as that area is usually chewed up and worn - removed .020 material, added a .030 shim at assembly to tighten things up. Fly cutting - I fly cut the underside of the spindle bosses to add a 1/8" thick thrust washer - amount of material removed is calculated to end up with a gap on the snap ring once assembled of .007 - .010 - each side will be slightly different. This is done in the SAME setup as the drilling & reaming, assuring that the fly cut surface is both flat and perpendicular to the reamed spindle bushing hole.

4 points@wallfish this extension kit would make you proud. I think I dreamed about making one of these last night. Instead of the ball on the extension, I would have had to use a set screw and a piece of the cable from the parts sled. Hindsight, I should have checked the Arctic Cat sled. It seems to be a much larger machine and has taller bars. Oh well. If the watermarks don’t express this enough, phot credits to Dennis Kirk.

4 pointsA little bit of snow removal with my 314 hydro and snowblower setup. My first time using a hydro with hydro lift and a snowblower! We had about five or six inches of fairly powdery snow from Storm Landon last night and today. This was on top of a lilt ice and sleet from Wednesday. Turned out pretty well. Did my drive and two neighbors before getting too cold. I can seethe need for wheel weights on this and I will put someon I am for more work in daylight tomorrow. This 314 has ag tread tires and they did well without chains. Onl stuck once tonight. IMG_1076.MOV IMG_1070.MOV 2DBE3B80-C895-4065-A87A-E7559C534E43.MOV

4 pointsThat is hurt spot for sure. Any chance you can get through 3 months without hurting yourself?? No bet here...I don't think you can do it. Just saying. Poke that thing with a needle on the edge and...let the blood out and grill another squirrel.
