This has been going on on this side of the pond: First fire up and first drive with the 14hp diesel (First fire up and first drive video is up on the c141D topic)

Maybe 6-8”. Plowed really easy. And the tri-ribs are so much better than the 20 or so year olds turfsavers on front. It started to sleet just as I finished, so pretty good timing. IMG_3481.MOV

Been a while since I posted something in this thread, hope you all are doing well! We finally got some snow here in NC, and Hoss got to push it around a bit. He loved it as much as I did!

I really had to work at this one. A snowblower would have been a better option this time. I still had fun getting some seat time. Some people probably think we’re crazy calling this fun.😀

I will have to adjust the idle an max rpm. It also has a an adjustment for the pump fuel duration. adjusting that will reduce the black smoke. But for now, it is a beast with a ton of torque I can already feel. It also has that unrefined old European NA diesel- feel to it. (If that is a thing) I am very happy. Even the seat was more comfortable then I thought. I edited the video so you don't have to wait so long for loading time. I know that can be annoying sometimes. C141 first drive.mp4

Steel would be my choice. It is harder and would wear better. Also, IMO, steel is much easier to fab tham aluminum. It cuts and grinds easier... no smearing and clogging of abrasive wheels and it is easier to weld. I can see 1X1 steel "U" channel working well to cover and support a belt. Just remember the top loop will need to move vertically with the belt tensioner pulley.

Today, I had a minute and tried to fire up the Big diesel! The starter motor is double that of a Kohler and a U1 battery will not cut it. You have the ability to @Pullstart it but I happely invite Kevin to try that out! My muscles aren't up for the task even with the decomp. It will need a good muffler because it's loud! Turf tire with chains is usually a good combo. If you decide to put ag tires on the back then you will want cross linked chains. Other wise the chains tend to fall down between the lugs. I have Carlisle X-trac snow blower tires on the front of my snow clearing tractor. They give good bite for steering. I run turf tires with chains on the rear.

I had one of those deals near Syracuse, NY in the early '70s. Parked my truck next to the barn while I was on vacation in Florida for a couple weeks. Came back to a large drift going clear up to the eaves of the barn (about 12 feet). Someplace in that drift was my truck! I shoveled back far enough to find the front bumper as a reference point and then used a tractor with front end loader to open a path at the front and side. There was so much snow on top of the truck that had to be shoveled off that it took an entire weekend before I could attempt to drive it out. The bed of the truck was six foot high with snow which was quite a load on the tiers and suspension, shoveled that out and decided I'd take the time to clear a space in the barn next time!

Mrs K spent last week in Ocean City, Md. with her card club friends. Good time for me to work on this years deer mount. Here's a quick look at the 40 hour process. 1. thaw out frozen cape and flesh off all bits of meat , sew up arrow holes, rub preservative into the hide. A three edged leather needle and waxed cord is used for sewing raw hides. I turn the form upsidedown until I get the cape in place and fastened with clamps. Then turn it over an begin the sewing down the back of the neck using a baseball stich. Positioning the ears. Positioning and pinning the eyes and getting the lashes and every guard hair in position. All low areas need to be pinned as the hide will shrink as it dries and tend to pull these low areas away from the form. Finally, trim off the excess hide and fasten to the back side of the form. Now, just let it dry slowly in a cool place to minimize shrinkage. About 2 months. Then all pins and support removed and some filling with bees wax aroung eyes and mouth as required.

Gasoline in a gas tank works. Oil in the crankcase works. Money in your wallet works.

While working on Caspers latest modification, I had some down time waiting on parts and such, so I started another little project. Small parts storage. I finished it up this morning. When I have to run to the store to buy a small ticket item, I usually buy more than one. I figure if I needed it once, chances are, I will need it again. I will buy at least 6 of anything. I am talking about things a couple of bucks or less. Things such as set screws, small spacers, O-rings, barrel nuts, the list goes on and on. The trouble with buying all these small parts was finding them when I needed them of course. Those little cabinets with the plastic pull out out drawers are a joke. You can't see whats in them, and they take up valuable counter / work bench space. You can hang them on a wall, but I don't have a lot of wall space either. I bought a bunch of little bitty 2 x 3 plastic baggies, and put the parts in them. Then I sorted the little bitty baggies into groups of things that made sense to me. I then put the different groups into medium sizedbaggies. Then I put all the medium size baggies into one BIG baggie. While this system worked better than just having all the parts in a drawer, it wasn't much better. When I needed a woodruff key, the hunt was on. Which medium size baggie was it in? It could take 1/2 hour to find a part, and sometimes I never did find it, although I knew I had it, somewhere. There had to be a better way. I had lots of wood I bought some of these,\ and made some of these. One thing I do have in my garage is lots of cabinet doors. and insides of cabinet doors. The inside of cabinet doors really don't do anything but hold up the outside of cabinet doors. What a waste. So I mounted a bunch of these, on the inside of my cabinet doors. Then I bought a bunch of these.Put my small parts in them, labeled them, and put them in these Now everything is in alphabetical order, at eye level, and what use to take a 1/2 hour to maybe never find, I can have my hands on in 30 seconds. I still have more wood, and more rod, and lots more cabinet doors, but I need to order more bottles. This is not a new or unique idea of course, but it's my take on it.

to the Tar Heel State. You must use the same ruler for snow measurement that my wife uses, Looks more like 5 or 6 inches to me, same as we got in Franklin. Don't pay any attention to @SylvanLakeWH he is just one of those ultra environmentalist.

Tough snow. Didn't get that much but it drifted ..bare spots to 8-10 inches and it got heavy with the sleet. Charger 12 got a work out. First real test with the 54" blade and new weights now about 350lbs all together. Was on the governor frequently even lugged her down in the heavy spots. .

The Hatz engine on Radpferd came with these cool instructions on the recoil. I believe that they put the illustrations on there to show you how to remove that rubber handle from the starter rope. At least that is the results that I get when I follow these illustrations.

Not sure what to think, but a bit of oil in gas won’t “hurt” our old engines… I do know that I never use any additives in my Dewalt 20 v battery lawnmower, blower, chainsaw, hedge trimmer or string trimmer…

Turfs chains and weights. As achto said if you use AGs you need special chains that won't get down between the lugs like the ones in the picture I use on my big tractor. . AGs with out chains have a big issue in reverse they are directional tires and have little traction in reverse. this is especial bad if you have raised your blower and try to back up as the weight is transferred to the front.

@Achto’s “Radpferd” can be @Pullstarted too. You might only want to do that once in a day! Sounds awesome @Maxwell-8!

I have an appreciation for those large tool boxes and those folks who can use one. A garage setting where it would need to locked I'd use one. My thing is... I'm TERRIBLE about "outta sight, outta mind." That's why we've been expanding our tool storage to the walls. Pegboard is amazing. Like better than sliced bread amazing.

I can only add this: tack up all the way around. Don't weld much at all in one spot at a time so as to not warp your sheet metal. It takes longer but will give a better result when finished. A little here, then the opposite side. Small drips of water can be used too if needed to cool your work. Not fire hose levels, just a little. And like Jeff said- grind off the ugly.

When I first got my C 105 I used 10/30 for first oil change and it smoked way more at start up. Went to 30 wt Shell Rotella based on recommendations from others on this site and it made a big difference…

Finally got a decent snow in Southern Ohio, guessing around 7 inches. I love summer and hate the cold, but the one thing I do enjoy is plowing snow on a Wheel Horse. I started plowing snow in the small town I grew up in (about 350 people) when I was a teenager. I have several family members who live in this town and we have a few Churches and some elderly folks that I always plowed their driveways. I have sense grown up, went to college, got married, had kids.... yet I still love coming back to my parents (about 15 minutes from my house) when it snows to plow everyone's driveways. My oldest son, now 17 has been plowing along my side since he was about 10....we make quite the team. This year I picked up a really nice 314-8 and for the first time decided to mount the rear suitcase weights on the back. This thing was a tank. This summer my son picked up a rough 418A at the WH show and restored it., and then during the fall, he picked up a really nice single stage snowblower. I got some nice footage of him blowing snow at a local Church, and he plans to upload it to YouTube soon. Thad (Ready for Summer)

Hey I bought a 417a smokes oil when motor is under load. Steep inclines or heavy grass. I bought it last summer as the 312 was getting in need of some love. The 417 has around 600 hrs. Before I rebuild upper end is there anything I should consider? Lower hours and very clean machine.

Difference from NC to NH….in NH if that isn’t cleared it could freeze until April. My guess is yours will be gone by next week if you do nothing!

    or… take the environmentally friendly, carbon neutral approach… It’ll melt… eventually… I guess… maybe…

When the blower goes on the PTO pulley comes off for an inspection. My rule of thumb. (And yes Pete I grease the inner brg with Lucas)
  45. 3 points
Looking at the joint line of the clutch plate/lining, The lining appears to be pretty thick and may be OK. The belt should be on the outer pulley to make the auger spin at the correct RPM. That is not causing the belt to slip though. The adjustment rod is maxed out and could be allowing the clutch to slip. I would run a die on there and make another inch of threads. What really jumps out at me is the lack of tension on the tensioner spring. Most of the coils are closed and not applying any tension to the belt. That spring should be shorter and streched more.

I agree with @Ed Kennell. Steel is about 3 times stronger than aluminum, but also about 3 times heavier. In your application, I don't believe that weight will be a consideration. Being stronger, steel will stand up better to oopseies that might happen out in your woods. Will also stand up better to occasional contact with bear feet.....

I add 1oz SeaFoam to every gallon of gas that I use in my small engines. All the time. No smoke from SeaFoam, MMO will cause some smoke.

I bought a parts tractor with a Kohler twin that smoked a lot. Checked the oil and found it was overfilled, drained the oil and put in 1 1/2 Quarts and the smoke went away.

Shimmed the blower up, got the chains on and lubed the C-160. Thanks to @Handy Don, my belt is on correctly too! Having given up on that wrongo plow index control arm on the B-80, I put the short plow on the no-name. Could not mount the chains though, as one of them seems to have walked off somewhere. ☹️
