I'm always looking new ways and excuses to use the Wheel Horse. Made a cheap and easy garbage can hauler using a 36" water meter tool from Home Depot. Works great taking the can to the street on pick up days or driving around the yard picking up pine cones, limbs, etc.

Cleaned up after a decent snowfall today. 6.25 inches give or take. First time using the C160 Automatic for it's intended purpose. Plowing!! The circled area on the brown tarp is a 417A trying to get out so it can have a rebuild.

Had to change out one of my snow horses (low impact plow tractor). Scheduled tractor is on loan to my brother. Set up an Electro 16 to fill in (overkill on power and fuel consumption). Then realized the big muffler I adapted to work with the Magnum 16 and clear the hood interfered with the blade angle lever. So quick substitute with a different muffler will be noisier but she won't get many hours.

Leaves are a riot to blade. Raise the blade up 1" off the ground and you can do the lawn also without gouging the turf. 702 857 How's that for a hood ornament?? harvesting grapes for the wine B-100

I needed to remove the topsoil after I had the new driveway installed - we widened it by about 10 feet from what was there and there was a mismatch in height. Made up a ripping tool to bolt onto the plow edge - mounted with 2 bolts for use, flips up when not needed. Bill

A tip of the WH hat to @peter lena for mentioning this in an earlier reply to a posting - this works well - what a difference. I noticed I had a LOT of lost motion - almost an inch - in the linkage when moving the pedal - almost 60 years of use and the metal - on - metal joint where the rod goes thru the cast iron pedal was pretty worn out. The 3/8 hole in the casting was egg shaped and the end of the rod was about 1/3 gone. I could have welded up the rod and machined it - but why? The same thing will happen again. Bought a 3 foot length of zinc coated steel rod, a 3/8 Heim Joint, and a 3/8" bronze flange bushing. Threaded the rod and bent it into shape; reamed the pedal pivot hole for a press fit with the bushing. Installed it using Pete's favorite green grease on the trunion threads and the pedal pivot bore. A machining note - cutting the 3/8-24 fine thread with a die for the rod end was not easy . I usually just chamfer the end as I would with a coarse thread, but the fine thread would not bite into the rod to get the first thread started. Had to use a trick I learned years ago - undercut the rod by about .020 diameter for the first 1/4" or so, leaving a chamfer at both ends - this acts like a pilot for the die - keeps it aligned square to the rod. Thread it to the length desired and cut off the pilot. Once assembled, I noticed the 3/8 oversized jamnut I chose hit the oil drain cap - back downstairs to open up a 5/16" hexnut in the lathe and rethread it to 3/8-16 - no more clearance issue. The best part of this is that an original rod still fits - if I could find a NOS one. Bill

I had some knock er loose left in an old can...dribbled it on, hit it with the blow torch for about 2 minutes, more knock er loose, then vice grips on the shifter stub...kept repeating this and darned if it didnt come loose, shifts clean between Hi and Lo now...id have never believed it to be possible without snspping that stub clean off. Yeah 16 years in the weather...but get this, no water in the trans, no slurry, no milk...no rust on the dipstick. The shift boot hung in long enough to keep water out.

Lee is correct. I bought this hitch Off the fleabay a couple years ago. Purpose was twofold. I wanted to be able to use a receiver hitch and also needed to move the plow blade forward to clear my oversized 20 x 8 x 8 tires. I made up a mating plow bracket from a 7" long piece of an old Wheelhorse frame. At the time we had only manual transmission tractors. As @Lee1977 says the axle square tube is smaller on sticks than on Automatics. I made the bracket extra long compared to stock location after I had gotten some spacers for vertically mounted brackets from @WVHillbilly520H and liked the more downward position of the rear plow mount. (raises the front for better ground clearance). I also had to notch the bracket today to clear the left side of the hydro (pump?). I kept the upper holes of the bracket where I had them and expanded the lower holes so the mount position would stay the same height. @Snoopy11 and @Thor27. The plow blade is the 61" wide monster creation of one Mr @wallfish. I ran it a bit last year. It worked well but I kissed a rock at the side and dinged it up some. A few months ago I had ordered a VERY heavy duty 60" cutting edge for a skidsteer. The cutting edge alone is about the same weight as the rest of the plow. Got that mounted up and ran a bead of weld down the side blade attachment points. Yesterday I finished cleaning up the welds and had The Paint Department throw some Rust-Oleum 2X Apple Red at the front side of it.

Spent all day working on the '75 C160 Automatic. Quite a few things done. Fluid filled tires and spacers. Steel weights. Chains on. Got the plow hitch modified for an automatic and installed. Plow is painted up. More pics & video tomorrow. We're getting a decent snowfall tonight.

Original machines can be brought back to have a nice look . Over the years I’ve been known to have nos machines & over restored units .(They say wine is better with age ) well took me years to appreciate the patina look . With a lot of trial and error I’ve come up with a solution . I’m against putting mystery oil , motor oil , wd40 ,linseed oil as the chances of ever doing anything with the metal down the road is nearly impossible. I found a lubricant that preserves the metal and brings the color out that is body shop safe. I do try to leave them natural in most cases but if color is a bit dull I then use the lubricant . These pictures posted aren’t done just (still in progress ) . No sandpaper or wire brush used . lastly : How you get the tractor out if you want to buy it bad enough. From the second story of the barn. 😆 IMG_3044.MOV

When we built our house there was quite a variety of timber that had to be cleared. I worked out a deal with the contractor who did the clearing, he kept the pine boards, the saw mill kept the poplar and I got all the oak. There were four truck loads of logs that went to the mill and I used a great deal of the oak as trim boards for a project at our church. Also built the utility room cabinets for our new house.

It's been done. A guy at the big show would bring his for years. Very cool setup not only to display but he would make ice cream in June. Although he wasn't there the last couple shows. There's some pics in the old big show pics.

It sure is!! That was something Trina noticed right away. We were done a fair amount sooner than expected. I'm not sure if those are the chains I ran last year. When installing them I figured out that the cross chains line up exactly in between the bars of the AG tires. One chain. One space. That makes for a VERY good grip. Also helping traction is a LOT of weight. Hydro is heavier than an 8 speed and I added the two rear outside weights. This big plow and soft ground were having some challenges getting along. Careful usage of the control lever helped. I have a set of shoes I'll be installing. One thing I noticed about ¾ of the way through.... I was/am MUCH less fatigued than when using a manual transmission tractor.

Take your time adding the 2 mid position holes - it can be done with a hand drill with the quadrant in the vise - I did mine in the milling machine to assure the centerline height of the new holes matched the existing - and add a small chamfer lead-in to all the holes - makes for easier pin engagement. I'm on the fence with this . I do love old industrial areas , A LOT! But... The prevailing winds are out of the West / Southwest making the East wall the next in a potential blow-out . The CSX rail spur that services General Mills travels right between Ganson St and the East wall . If it were blocked , it would be days before Gen Mills would be able to ship / receive rail . A daily trip for the rail guys . There is parking for about 25 / 30 employee autos along the same line . ADM has roughly 80 workers on 3 shifts so parking is now non-existent , It was problematic before the structure was deemed structurally unsound . My thought is : With the structure down it would pave the way for progress that is now stifled by it's footprint .
