    The students asked if they could restore another wheel horse . I said of course. I brought my C141 in last month and they are going to town on it. They tore it down to the frame and sand blasted a majority of the parts. Each part received a coat of epoxy primer before the paint. They are doing a fantastic job.

    Well, its an 87 312-8, has the fender in the truck, 42rd deck in outwardly okay shape, hasnt run since 2005, no water in the trans somehow...but the range shifter is fully stuck. Engine rolls over by hand. Got the dozer blade and the tractor for $0.00...so thats a W.

    Day early, but I know Mike won't mind. You've seen these pictures somewhere along the line before but thought they may fit in here. Before picture being delivered in the bucket of a Kubota and what it looks like after a cleaning and some much needed maintenance. This is a 1977 from the original owner complete with owners manual and a late model 36'' tiller that I removed and stored. I think I have had this for around 8 years and is used for towing around a cart with firewood and trail rides in the nice weather.

    So I guess those number (frequencies) are only relevant to the immediate listening area that you are in? I only listen to the radio in the truck and that is tuned to SiriusXM "Bluesville", "FoxNews", "Bluegrass Junction", or the "Patriot" channel.

    They always say not to worry about a flat tire as it is only flat on the bottom. Yours being flat top and bottom may be an issue But given you current outlay guess yo could afford some new ones.

    Yes, I have a picture. BTW, if your trans was a 5053, it would have the new shift rails in it...that was one of the changes. This is what you have... This is what you want...

    I do not know what my brother did to it I am sure he tried to be careful but his mobility issues means he may have kicked the gear shift occasionally getting on and off.. If I try grinding is there a pic that shows where??? I have about 90 detente balls as i no longer chase them i just bought bagfull from McMaster

    We had a delivery driver at Napa who liked Hard Rock. He would crank the radio up in the delivery truck. The old guy who drove early would get blown out of the water because he had a hearing aid when he turned the key on. So he kept complaining. So one day when the rocker was out on delivery I went to his car. He left the key in it so I reset every station to an opera station, cranked the volume and turned the key back off. Then I took off all of the knobs and buttons and hid them. Took a couple of tries until he got the message.

    I'm amazed that while only 225 or so of these were ever made, they keep turning up almost 40 years later! And that one looks VERY good! Mine looked like it had NASCAR crashed before falling into a swamp.

    Howdy all . Well after posting last week about the second WH I picked up from my scrap guy friend , I am happy to report that I had a little time today to go though this Gem Automatic 16 . went through the fuel system all looked very clean then checked and set the governor , I lubed the cables to get the choke and throttle to operate nice and smooth , I pulled the spark plug witch did not look to bad cleaned it up , then check all the wiring to see if anything was frayed or broken , at that point I decided to see if she had spark, got a battery in and turned the key , starter spun but no engagement ,I could see the bendix drive was not throwing out all the way ,so pulled the starter took the bendix drive a part and the old grease was caked up solid ,so cleaned it new grease and reinstalled the starter. turned the key had perfect starter engagement , and sure enough had really nice spark ,so I made up a make shift fuel tank and let her rip ,it was like somebody just finished cutting grass with this Gem it fired right up. I could not believe how nice this engine ran, let her warm up adjusted the low speed idle and adjusted the throttle cable both were way out of adjustment , I also confirmed the electric PTO worked , Tomorrow I will pull the cover go through the drive belt operation , I can feel there is way more play in that belt compared to my C120 , so I will get it on the jack so I can confirm the transmission operation and hydraulics hopefully work, if all goes well I will give this Gem a test drive .

    Happy to report that my FIL got up 27 loads of leaves with zero failures. "I love it when a plan comes together!" Now he wants to make a long hose adapter to clean out the roof gutters...

    LOL no engineering on my part my thought of the pencil = Graphite is that if you are a acoustic guitar player as I am, where the strings pass at the top of the guitar before they go to the tuning keys at the end of the fret board that white thing witch the strings cross is called a Nut and when putting new string on you want to use Graphite for basicly the same reason as the starter bendix , in all my years of playing not one guitar player I know has powdered graphite . we all use pencils its made from graphite well unless you have a very old lead pencil , But in the guitar world is known as lubing your nut.

    Scissors and an empty plastic oil jug? Offset the hole and you can use a small piece of foam under the hole in the cap pinched in between.

    My 654 would do that quite often from quick shifting when plowing snow. Only on the coldest windiest days of coarse! Bought a rebuilt trans from Charlie Pitcher to replace it. Before swapping the trans I pulled the shifter, and welded a couple of spots on the sides of the ball where it was worn, filed them down but left a little there to make up for any wear in the forks, tack welded the doughnut too and snugged the new dog point screw. It forces the forks to be in the neutral detent position before the other one moves. That rebuilt trans is still on the shelf since 2009 and haven't had it stick in 2 gears since fixing the shifter (or until I just wrote this). . Oh, and it's been used every year too

    Well...tires hold exactly no air, bummer. Engine wasnt stuck, hooked up a jumper box and turned the key...click. Put on a new solenoid and removed a push button jumper...turns over with the key. But none of the warning lights work or headlights.

    Since the entire tractor needs to be changed it would be only logical to start with the wheels and tires... right? Right! Stripping the old paint (powdercoat?) off was a nightmare but hey, got her done in the end and put on some primer. More to come shortly.. I should point out that i've been working on this project for some time. These photos are from the archives so to speak.

    Mine is fixed in place! And here's what 'talks to it' a hundred yards or so away. It transmits whatever is playing in "Media Player" which has about 500 ripped CDs in it.

    If the second one of those is athletically well constructed there could be potential partial replacement for the first.

    I'm adding apologies for missing the mark and corrections to this post since it appears that the technique varies. You measure Tecumseh oil level for some models/builds by resting the head of the retaining screw in the cap against the shoulder of the hole in the engine. That way neither the tightness/looseness of the retaining screw nor the depth of screwing in the cap affect the reading. For these models If you've been measuring measure by screwing in the cap, you are running your oil level too low. For other models/builds, the cap must be fully screwed in. On these, I assume the stick should be attached to the cap snugly but able to swivel. Apparently, instructions should be stamped into the dipstick. Scroll down to post #8 for an example. (Slide-in dipsticks are always fully seated to get the correct measurement.)

    Sealing the manifold on my P220 absolutely fixed the issues I had been having. My 520-H required full choke to run without surging. Cleaning the carb made no difference whatsoever. I didn't split the manifold, but rather ran a bead of silicone around the seam. Now (two years since) my tractor runs smooth as a top and choke is only needed for cold starts.

    Lasagna garden. Put down a layer of grass clippings. Then a layer of brown cardboard (not shiny). Sprinkle Blood meal and bone meal on it. Next. A layer of leaves. Another layer of cardboard. Sprinkle again with Blood Meal and Bone Meal. A layer of some sort of manure. I use composted cow manure. Another layer of cardboard. More BNB meal. Grass clippings and leaves on top. Sprinkle some more BNB meal and water it. The worms will do the rest.
