14 pointsMy son bought 10 acres and had about a half an acre of it cleared. Decades ago it was a pasture that was allowed to grow up so it had quite a few large cedar trees on it. We had a local gentleman with a wood miser sawmill come to the property to begin milling the 40 9’-12’ cedar logs. They range from 9 inches to 22 inches in diameter on the small end so he’s going to end up with a lot of lumber/posts. Unfortunately the mill broke down about two hours into the process but it was still a very interesting day. We ended up with a total of about 60 1x 6 x 9’ boards even with all the fiddling around with the mill we had to do. DISCLAIMER: no Wheel Horses were harmed in the making of this lumber. IMG_8396.MOV

8 pointsI see a lot of “ today’s haul” threads here and want to share mine from today. A running when parked 1054, a parts machine 953 and a 54 inch snow blade for them. Also a set of good used steering knuckles for the 1054. This is my first big wheel and I have hopes to use the 1054 as a plow mule this year. I’ll see how it goes but I’m pretty excited to score these. I’ve been talking to a few of the members here on their thoughts of this platform and thank them for their time.

5 pointsHad this one out today moving some stuff around after getting the Charger back home. Grabbed a few pics to "re-motivate" myself. This one is so close to being complete. Of course with Christmas right around the corner, Santa Clause duties will get most of my free time, but I hope to have a test drive soon!

5 pointsSo, RED, let's see if we can do anything about this. When you jack the front end so the tires are off the ground, the steering is super smooth and easy. You're suggesting this as you said everything is lubed. Assuming also that the toe is adjusted. Locate where there is drag from weight and try a few things. I'd suggest a flat bearing at the base of the pivot point where the vertical axle meets the crossbar. I can't name the parts specifically but maybe that suffices? All the weight of the front end rests here. They're easily installed and available through the usual sources like McMaster. Maybe a little grinding at the cross member top is required to secure the retainer but, an option? I'm tempted to do the same. Winter in the South can be boring so tractor mods become more common.

5 pointsWell, after the fuel system was primed properly, EB went on a test run. Had the camera ready because who know's what might happen next. All of a sudden I hear Jim, take a picture of my J strips, as he goes from full forward on the Hydro wide open in the snow of course turning the front wheels slightly and then slams it into reverse.Try to beat that one @Pullstart

4 pointsThe Onan 16, it wasn’t the only things that I got! There were running boards, the shifter plate, and a rear seat pan….ALL going to the junk yard!! The motor is the main thing… did it come from a 416? I haven’t head of a 516? How reliable were these motors? I’m going to assume that they didn’t have the same wiring as the 416 Kohler magnums hooking up to the tractor? I’m more of a Kohler fan (8hp -14hp), but I guess 1 Onan won’t hurt!!😀💪

4 pointsI was rearranging my garage for more floor space these last few days. While working out there today , I took a break and looked over the 1054. My curiosity got the best of me so I grabbed a battery out of one of my other tractors and put it in the 1054. Usually “ running when parked” can be a bad thing. The kill switch has some two prong key which I don’t have. I jumped an alligator clip from the hot side to the coil and added some fresh gas. After a little bit , it started running rough then cleared out. I even took it for a little drive but the kingpins badly need replaced so back to the garage. In the coming weeks I will give it a thorough going over.

4 pointsLove it. So that would make about 400 1" boards, but I suspect he will saw some thicker ones for post, tables, mantels. I've had a few sawn with one of those mills. Its amazing how long it takes fresh sawn wood to dry. We cut a large Cedar Elm Dec 2015, and let it dry about 18 months Then had it sawn into 2 6" mantels and some 1" boards. I was told to allow 1 year per inch on those 6" pieces. So i was just talking to my wife that it was time I had them planed. There is a fairly large Texas Ash that the roots got washed out by the creek last year. I really want to retrieve it, but I need about 150 ft of heavy chain or cable to skid it out of the creek bottom.

4 pointsYou almost sound as if you don't, but I'm sure you do. A funny (sort-a) side note to that. My wife and I celebrate 2 anniversaries each year. We were married twice. No, never divorced. Wedding date was set as May 14, 1977. Some idiot crashed his 750 Kawasaki 2 weeks before. Un-conscious for 3 days, 6 broken bones, in traction, and kind-a out of it for a while. We were still married on May 14, 1977. I was in my hospital bed, nekked, but for a sheet and a boutonniere. Not many guys can say they were nekked when they got married. We were married again in a church ceremony Sept. 24, 1977. I wore a cast on my arm for 1 1/2 years. 4 surgeries. Didn't work for 2 years. But.......I had an unemployment insurance policy. At the time of my accident, the company had been working overtime. I was still getting a check every week. When I went back to work, no overtime. I took a cut in pay. Our honeymoon was a trip to Clearwater Beach Fa. We stayed at a condo, FREE for 2 weeks, owned by the insurance man I had my policy with. I dropped that policy when John (insurance man) passed. Many years later. Had to make changes on dates "1977", not '79

4 pointsAlways a great accomplishment when picking up non runners from using a come along to get them into a rental box truck to sitting on a piece of Pine and going on a test run. Team work makes a big difference.

4 points@JCM Jim and I spent some more time bringing the recently aquired 417A to life. Popped the seat pan off. He did a bunch of foreign matter removal. We ran a new fuel line. Checked the fluids. After after using a special, little known priming method we got fire breathing through the KT17 again. After checking things over a bit more we decided to take it out for a shake down run.

3 pointsI got all the kids put back to bed for the winter, again! Except for Casper. He is waiting on that first 3" snow fall. Cleaned the garage, again. My thinking, learning, smoking, drinking, just wasting time station. Note the blanket on the floor. Like I said, it gets cold.

3 pointsGetting us two knuckleheads together is always dangerous and guaranteed for a good laugh. Combining our knowledge to get these tractors running and driving has been and will continue to be great fun. We picked up 4 in Port Clyde. We now have 3 running and 2 of those drive. I'm VERY much looking forward to doing more work on the 417A. Also using the C160 Automatic to plow snow this wintah. Sometime fairly soon I'll pull the C160 Tecumseh engine tractor in and do a full mechanical restoration on it too. That one might end up being a semi permanent home for the Mckissick chipper. Who knows?

3 points5" Harbor Freight. Works fine for me. Microwave is on the wifes workbench. No Plumbing. If I ever add on, there will be, depending on cost. Notice the outlets at wifes workbench, power prongs are up, ground is down. The rest of the garage is opposite. She insisted. Same in the house. Whadda ya gonna do?

3 pointsPicked up 2 gallons of ethanol free gas today. 4 miles up the road, $4.089 per gallon today. They set the pump up to shut off by price, not volume. The clerk behind the counter called another clerk over to help him figure out how much to charge to get two gallons. Kind of confirms my theory about calculators being the downfall of civilization. Oh, I'm watching Robert Mitchum in Thunder Road while I'm writing this.

3 pointsAfter I removed the damper from the clutch pulley the unintentional wheel stands stopped. At that time I also replaced the 6" tranny pulley with a 4" and shorter belt for a slightly faster tractor. But the new belt was slightly long and created too much chatter. So, today it went under a 2 hour operation to replace the orginal parts except for the damper. My 314-8

3 pointsOh my Lord Plunge if that don't remind me of this one! . The Hosen was on my 753 and the fuel pump give out right in the middle of really mosquitoe infested waters....trail ride. He thought maybe the carb was plugged. I'll do a caption when my gut quits hurting! Note the seat of the tractor! I distinctly remember telling him not to forget about my nuts. The knurley ones that hold the hood on!

3 pointsI got some quality time with both horses today. The C195 got put on lawn sweeper duty, and the 14-8 got tapped for plow duty. Why this division of labor? The plow does not fit the C195. The leaves were to wet to burn, so I piled them along the fence at the back of the property. I'll worry about what to do with them in the spring - they will end up burned, or being run through the shredder. This is the longest I've run the C195 since I got it. I'm getting more confidence in it. I am assuming that it is normal for an Eaton 1100 to have a slight whine as the tractor accelerates from a stop. It is quiet when everything is up to speed. The C195 is nowhere near as menurvible as the 14-8, though. Has a lot of understeer too. Tri ribs or front wheel weights might help that. Then again, maybe a new set of turf savers that don't have aged, rock hard tread might help. Using the plow to push the sweeper dump piles around worked out well enough that I think I'll fab up a leaf plow for next fall. I'll see if I can design it so I can use it on either tractor. The hydraulic lift on the C195 sure will make an implement like that easier to use than the lift lever on the 14-8.

3 pointsThe folks on Redsquare are... Incredible. The advice and learning, all freely given. About Wheelhorse sure, also about many many other things. Home repair. Vehicle repair. Etc.... The contributions Trina and I have received in the form of parts over the last 4+ years... I don't even know where to begin. I bring up a piece, a point of concern, a question... Next thing I know there's a part in the mail from halfway across the country to help us complete a build or repair. For nothing. Often we don't even pay shipping. She and I have each received a WHOLE TRACTOR from members wanting to see what she and I would do with it. We've now done fully disassembled frame off restorations on 3, mechanical restorations on several others. In all seriousness... I can't thank the folks here enough.
