13 pointsOk, I use the word trail loosely because the trails are pretty much gone now. But @Docwheelhorse texted me and said how about a ride in the woods and of course I said “Yep”! Me on my trusty C-105 and Tony on a less trusty 312/8 (tie rod popped off like 25 times) and his nearly 15 year old dog Cole. The one water crossing was quite mucky today…I let him go first to check depth .

13 pointsI wanted to install the lower frame brace on the 854 8 speed, but to my surprise there were no 1/2" holes on the sides of the frame plate. (we used to call that "material safe" at work) I made up a clamp on plate jig with replacable threaded inserts that would accurately locate the holes, as my design actually pilots inside those holes. I used a known good 702 frame for the dimensions - the 3 dowels protrude on both sides for left and right side use. Braces are now installed.

11 pointsHello, i am new to this forum. Here's what happened. I met this guy named Roland found him on marketplace I was looking for a vtg manhole cover for an in ground oven I was building at the time. Built a friendship with this older gentleman and started selling vintage stuff he would find in his teardowns. Side note he does alot of rural old little towns here in my area, he finds antiques and vintage stuff all the time! Fast forward a few weeks ago I did my first sale for him 40 complete factory steel windows from an old late 1800s shoe factory in Washington, MO. Well he agreed to pay me a percentage for selling stuff for him, I like to think I am a good sales person. Plus I love meeting interesting people and hearing their stories! Well at the time for him to pay me I said "what are you doing with those old red lawn tractors sitting there?" there was a little Springfield tractor as well very interesting too. He said you want them I said I will take them as payment. I knew they were worth saving and I wanted to get them out of the elements. So came back with my trailer and picked all three up including the Springfield (reminded me of an RJ). It was a Commando 6 with a tecumseh 8hp, a 567 with the 6hp tecumseh and mower deck! Brought them back home and put them in one of the pole barns on my property, they were safe at last! That day I went down that rabbit hole and started researching the brand I was amazed on the info and puctures online of all the models. Tons of info and pictures! I had this thought how much I enjoyed just looking at them. And since I didnt have a running one I thought I find one that was running. I got on marketplace and I met a 70 year old man that goes by the name Bernie. He had two blurry pictures of two different WH. He messaged me at 1am that night 5 hours after my initial message. Haha I was stoked he answered.. marketplace can be a pain the butt! He was an hour away in Troy, MO. I set up and appointment for that morning at 9. I brought $200 bucks since he had price of $250. I was confused with the pricing he had. It was 4 days ago I headed down there to purchase my first running WH. It was a 1076 with a 12hp kohler mowing deck and a hydro drive trans garaged kept. He had more sitting there and I was amazed that they were all running he had a total of 5. Brought the 1076 home it's sitting in my garage now. Well I decided to contact him again, I saw one I needed to have a 1056 with a kohler 12hp, snow plow and standard tranny! Paid the man $350 for that one but well worth it! It's in my garage now with the 1076. Now I have a total of 4 within 2 weeks. Oh by the way I found out we are expecting our first baby two weeks ago! Hahahaha 😃

9 points@AMC RULES Said it best on the NOS 420 thread this morning. Wheel-Horse, nice to look at, made to work. I just can't help myself wanting to use this thing. I spent years looking at photo's of one of these , now having to walk by it in the garage all the time, I don't know how you guy's do it that own the low hour/ NOS ones and hold yourself back. Pictures today using it to haul firewood from the pile to the house and then rewarding it by a short trail ride to another picture with the first sign of snow for this season.

7 pointsFirst I want to say thank you to @19richie66 for letting me adopt this tractor. I had a little time over the weekend to tinker with it a little. The hydraulic lever was 3/8 rod and would not let the belt cover go on. I put a new drive belt on and modified the hydraulic control lever and installed the belt cover. Then I started on the cover for the other side. This is where the hydraulic pump sticks out. It was previously installed with pop rivets. I cut the flange off the bump out part to fit the hole and started welding it in place. After I tacked it together I tried it for fit. Now to finish welding it up.

6 pointsI've been wanting to get a Wheel Horse for years. All I needed was an excuse, so when the guy who does garden tractor hay rides at our church annual event wasn't able to do it this year I went to CL and picked up this 1970 Charger 12 for $200. It runs a little rough and I've already ordered a carb rebuild kit along with a filter for hydrostatic transmission. Philosophy question: Is this a unique enough machine that I should look to keep it as stock as possible or is it common enough that I can give it a little more of a farm spin? Tires are in rough shape and two don't hold air. Should I tube them to keep the original look or put on new AG tires (which I like the look of better)? Where can I get a canister vertical muffler that will reduce noise and give it more of a farm look?

6 points@JCM You definitely need a trusted steed when you're on the trails in Maine.

6 pointsTook my first horse (the Raider 10) out for a second drive. A 1 year anniversary drive to be exact. I had a blast!

6 pointsPurchased my first wheel horse last Sunday. I’m super excited about it. As far as I can tell it’s all original and seems to be well maintained. It came with a lot of paperwork that included factory dealer brochures and all the manuals for the tractor and all attachments. I took the deck off and installed the blade this weekend. Also bolted on a set of wheel weights that came with it, but I don’t think there wheel horse but fit fine. Used it a little to push a hump of gravel out of the driveway, mainly just for fun to use the machine, which was a blast! It came with a lot of attachments, I didn’t get a picture of the deck or spreader but here’s the rest of what I got. are those fender lights factory? I don’t see them in the manual anywhere, or in the accessories guide.

5 pointsPut a wheel horse man 1000 light bar on my 753 . Of course had to do some patina matching .

5 pointsSo the worm gear setup on the blower worked OK with a motor turning it but once in a while a chunk of ice could bind it. Turns out it wasn't totally all the worm gear's fault for questionable performance as I found a dimpled out part of the sheet metal which was affecting the smooth travel of the plastic chute guides. Of coarse that was discovered after making and attaching the new 85 tooth gear so decided to just go forward with the chain drive after fixing that. It still needs a little tweaking but so far so good. Strong and powerful so it should just crush any ice chunks, hopefully. Thinking about attaching a plastic guard to cover the entire chain and motor gear. No modifications to the blower itself except for enlarging the holes on the chute itself so it can always be changed back to the worm gear set up using a motor or handle. The thing about the chain drive is it will be nice to shoot snow 45-60 deg backwards instead of turning the tractor around. BTW, the notches on the chute for the worm gear drive perfectly fit #35 chain so grinding in new teeth all the way around on that plate would have worked too. Also making new windows for the snow cab using clear 20 mil marine vinyl and aluminum frames. Covering the vinyl of the cab with clear Flexseal out of a can with a brush turned out to be a successful experiment. I covered a big portion of the cab already and it sticks VERY well and turns the vinyl cover into a nice pliable sheet of rubber. Very happy with the results of that so far! Bought a couple spray cans of the red which I may spray on over the clear after some testing. Added new rubber paddles too as the old were worn down some and a new front gearbox support.

4 pointsI picked up a C-101 last summer with a broken connecting rod for a little less than scrap in otherwise decent shape and complete. I had a little time today to pull the head and see what happened. I put compressed air into the oil fill hole to pop the piston out. I fished all the broken pieces out and felt the cylinder skirt which was intact. Now time to pull engine and disassemble. Hoping to be able to get it back into shape. Fortunately the crank journal looked good to boot.

4 pointsI've got 2 with Kohlers and 2 with Tecumsehs. This one, a 75 Automatic, and Cinnamon Horse, a 74 8 speed. Beast of a tractor.
-
4 pointsThat's exactly what I am looking for. A hydro, no motor, don't need tires and wheels, most everything else there. HP is not important. I want a roller. Not to build, but to do some experimenting on. Lots of things I want to try, but I am not going to sacrifice one of mine. When I'm done experimenting, I can rebuild it then. I have motors, wheels, tires, and a few other gadgets I wanna try. Wish you were closer. Actually, I haven't been anywhere for a while.....
-
4 pointsProblem solved. Jeff, you said it first. 1.5-2 amps just doesn't register. Funny that a 40 year old Amprobe clamp-on reads it but the new fangled crap doesn't. Once I had a CT on the furnace circuit it read it and I could even watch it ramp down as it went into the shut down sequence. At least now I know. There's another style that I'm going to try. They are SUPPOSED to read voltage, current and frequency. What the heck. It's fun playing.

4 pointsI know this model is on many a bucket lists… but not THIS model…. Another neglected beat up and loose everything. The 16 hp thumper was still worth the price of admission!
-
4 pointsI thought I'd tackle that fallen tree I mentioned yesterday, today. But the fates ruled otherwise. For the first time in a long while it started to snow this morning. So this afternoon I took some photo's of it instead. Going to be interesting getting it down, but I have a plan.

4 points@Ed Kennell send me your address and ill keep a endless supply headed your way!

4 pointsI bought sealed bearings in a couple 10 packs of the popular auction site. I like the sealed part for the convenience of no maintenance and no mess.
-
4 pointsSuccess!!!! Thanks fellas! Notice the bearings? I think this was a good thing to do! I babied these things, so this was about to fail anyway!
-
4 pointsIt’s been a while since I’ve posted this picture I took of my herd, since I took this I think I’ve acquired 3-4 more!

4 pointsStarting getting the snow plow read for the rj58. Not sure if its the proper plow, but it appears that it will work fine

3 pointsto Some o these folks know it's only a matter of time before I chime to a "stack" question. Eh @Pullstart?? This here beast is my Cinnamon Horse 1974 C160. I like a stack that's TALL. Can you tell? The top of that one is around 6 ft off the ground. I'll second the above recommendation for a cub muffler, turned to point up. The cub mufflers are fairly quiet which is important to me. If you want to extend it you can use thin wall plumbing pipe as I did or whatever is handy. Here's a pic of 3 from the herd owned by my Honey Trina and I. Her 2 on the left have AGs on the rear. As you can see she runs tri ribs on the front of one and AGs on the other.
-
3 pointsThere isn’t a ton left on this that is of any quality. Two of my hydro units ran and drove but one seemed to have a weak hydro. I’m sending both of those transmissions with a buddy and another hydro tractor next weekend… but if I come across anything again I’ll keep you in mind
-
3 pointsThat's only 45 minutes from where my camps were. Seen some big ones but never that big. Is that pic real?

3 pointsThere is a wide variety of ways to get a stack type muffler. As mention Jim Kemp makes nice ones other have modified Farmall Cub Mufflers..Lots of options and widely variable cost. I am not a big stack fan but this would a cheap alternative. This muffler mounted on my Electro 12. You could aim it up. I go down to avoid branches and other issues
-
3 pointsRed if you browse around here you will find that it is to each his own. Many have put ag tires on, many leave the original tires on. Do a search for Kemp muffler which will give the tractor the look your searching for. You can modify it to suite you and your own flavor! There will be many to chime in on this. Just do what you can for yourself and here you will find many, many good people with all kinds of knowledge and great advise on just about any subject you can think of for the ‘s. Great group here we all call family! Welcome aboard and enjoy that machine!
-
3 pointsCharger 12 and its sister Electro 12 are great tractors (I have 5) They are not uncommon so by all means make it the way you want. Welcome to Red Square!!!

3 pointsThanks guys. I was originally going to machine the block to leave 2 raised flats on each - WAY too much work. A little math to deduct half of the .3125 dowels and knocked it all out in the milling machine, including all the insert thru holes. All told, about a 3 beer job. (My son's godfather rated the difficulty of all automotive repairs that way - 2 beers for replacing rotors and pads, 4 beers to change a water pump, etc.) Bill

3 pointsI would absolutely do that rather than having to cut and drill a piece of steel, but the lever on this tractor doesnt have a stop, so if i use chain the lift lever will rotate all the way down and i wont be able to reach it to lift the plow back up

3 pointsRemoved the deck from the 312H. Yes, I cleaned and oiled it Pete. Then installed the tiller and tilled the horse manure into the gardens. Then took the tiller off and installed the 48" blade. The 312H will be used for warm weather snow removal. The 520H with heated cab and 54" blade is ready full time for the cold weather duty. Hauled in some wood.
