Well hello wheelhorse family! If any of you remember me I'm Oldworkhorse Steve! It's been a few months since I've posted on here not by choice but rather just lack of time and crazy life last few months. I finally got a little free time from the 6 to 7 day a week work weeks and even tho I didn't get a chance to work on one of the horses I did do a short before it snows house project witch was to build a new bed. Didn't want to waste my money on cheap store bought so I decided to make 1. My wood working skills are not the best but to me they will get the job done! So here are a few photos of the project. Hope every1 has had the best year they could have and every1 is well! Enjoy the holidays and I'm sure I'll b back on here more often once the snow flys! OH and I scored myself another tool box for all the horse tools!

Haven't posted much lately, been pretty busy. But I found time to rustle up this one. 522xi low hours, was grandma's mower, but it drains battery when sitting. Best part no lights were flashing behind me

Began with the Right Rear Fender to reconstruct. What you can see from outside... Will give an impression, what‘s behind the Scene.. Yap, lot of rotten Metal. And more rotten, the last worker just sticked the Repair Sheetmetal simply over the gunk.. Ain‘t be a Work that lasts longer. So grind all down to bare Metal as far as possible. Reconstruct the Rear structure just by spot welding parts in to prevent welding distortions. And allway‘s check it the Work will fit. A gently coat of rust prevention primer on areas, they be delayed in Work to prevent Rust while working. Check fit rework, check... Grinding primer off, next section reconstructing... Slowly but steady it gets it’s complete new Structure all handmade. It’s a ton of Work. Than spotwelind the new parts in. Spot by spot with cooling phase for non distortion. Is it worth the Work? Maybe no, but for me it is.

I traded some old wheel horse stuff for this massive old homemade splitter. Crazy what people used to make back in the day. Most of it seems good. Needs a new pump and engine. The little control piece has been sitting open for a good 20 years so if I can’t clean that up I’ll need a replacement as well. Other than that though the piston seems fine and that’s what matters.

After a closer look at your coil, it looks like you are using a points type coil. If you don't have spark with the new coil then you may have points issues. There are two ways to handle a points issue on a Briggs. 1 - Pull the fly wheel off and clean or replace the points. 2 - This is my favorite remedy. Leave the fly wheel in place, cut the wire that currently goes to the points and install a solid state coil. Briggs part # 398811 or after market equivalent. Run a kill wire from the terminal on the new coil to your switch. No more points to deal with ever.

Is it a leaking axle seal or is it the "auto lube dispenser for ease of later hub removal kit..."
  9. 6 points
A mid mount or rear mount scraper blade does do fairly well in the snow if there isn't very much. The biggest issue with something like that is that you have to run over the snow before you remove it which leaves two very densely packed stripes. Those will quite often turn to stripes of ice later.

Not that iam much looking forward to snow! But I also like to be prepared!!! The 670 predator did great all summer with the mower so iam sure it will handle the snow also!!!

That's my 76ish sporty, it's straight piped right now, but fish tails would look cool on it! It is raked out on a custom frame. Haven't had it out a hole lot yet. Kick start only and it skips once in awhile. Don't want to get sportster knee!!!

I am sorry @ebinmaine, got distracted on my side project (compressor). Which the compressor didn't like haha Always wanted these nice looking hitches our vendors sell. But figured shipping to Europe would be more then what they ask for their receiverhitches. So I made one today with steel I had laying around. more then strong enough for what I needed. The 4 bolts needed, costed me 5$ just the bolt, no nuts or washers. they claim inflation here is "only" 2,6%. But sure feels a lot higher. The hitch still will have to be finalized and painted.

Our winters would also consist out of snow +/-4inches. Now instead of snow, we have tons of rain. winter but also summer. Maybe next project after the compressor is a waterpump haha I would want to try this rear grader this year. With that rubber, I think it will do OKEY with the little snow we get.

I have a ton of chainsaws, new and old I use 40:1 on all. It is very important you use a high quality oil! If you use a cheaper oil, you need to use more of it. running a bit more oil won't harm it, to little sure will. My ms880, I sold to buy my first horse. So I did with my Jonsered 2188 (Husqvarna 390) My current MS661 Also in my concretesaw which has to be floored for sometimes a full tank of gass, while under high load

I soak a carb and 3 hours later walk into the house. If my wife doesn't comment on the fact I was using the cleaner, I know it's time to change it.

if you are going to replace it, I like the Berryman's Chem Dip / Carb cleaner. https://www.amazon.com/Berryman-Products-996-Chem-Dip-Carburetor/dp/B00DSMEL2A/ref=asc_df_B00DSMEL2A/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=312176482001&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=15346685260398987619&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9018822&hvtargid=pla-714363490952&psc=1&tag=&ref=&adgrpid=68995954464&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvadid=312176482001&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=15346685260398987619&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9018822&hvtargid=pla-714363490952

Thanks Pete! I didn't take it home today, but it did go for a drive! Tilt seat did the trick. No problems opening the fender up now. Also gotta go try blower belt #3... Stupid B belt was too short. If could go on, but is too tight. Still gotta cut the trailer tongue down a bit, and the choke cable is giving me a fit. Also gotta wait until it goes home to put on the hoses. I didn't bring those with the tractor. And last, I had to go with a digital voltmeter. Ampmeters are useless for my purposes. A little new with the old...

I have a set of chains for the rear tires. Not installed yet. My main snow clearing machine is a Husqvarna snowblower. My long driveway has curbing on both sides so pushing it with a plow is way harder then using the blower. I also have a Case 224 with a snowblower on the front that I am dying to try if it isn't sold before then.

Most of my 2 stroke engines require 50:1. My new Craftsman leaf blower states 40:1. I'd rather use a little more oil than be concerned about the mixes. My "Mix" gas can has 40:1 or even a little stronger.

Although it was a cute little red tractor that started it for me, the further need to know about it, maintain it, and improve it was what brought me here. Unknown to me at the time was the fact that I would be getting much more than what I actually looked for. Right off the first weeks, once again in my life I recognized that I had come across something great. Great not just because of the original purpose and intent of the site which in a way became the least of it, but more importantly because of the people in it. Starting with the impeccable organization, maintenance, and dedication of it by the ones responsible for the site whom we all know who they are , and then by all the dedicated talented members who’s talents , knowledge, wisdom , generosity, and more importantly the willingness to share all their mentioned assets with all, really have made an important contribution to my life. Where else would one be able to get to obtain all of that from so many different people from all parts and all walks of life and make friends of them also? So many examples here of all that can be good about human kind but one need only to think of one to understand what I am referring to such as when when someone selling a tractor part comes out of that deal with a life saving kidney. Blessed are not only the donor and the recipient of such gift, but all of us , that due to membership here have the privilege to know the individuals involved and share in the greatness of it all. So in addition to Happy Birthday to Redsquare, thank you to the ones responsible for starting it , and that it may continue for the next generations to come.

So true ... especially if you was a "prospect" for a club! Really glad them days are past. Sorry for goin Jer but it's all good. Back to gettin ready for snow we had about two inches up Conover way this past weekend but just not enough to warrant seat time. 'Sides ground not really froze so woulda been tossing more rocks than snow. Gotta half @$$ed idea to start plowing up there again. Last year lost the 3/8 rod the holds the blower to the front of the attach so just used a piece of all tread had laying around .. really should fix that permanent.... nawww... ride it like ya stole it.... back to the biker thing!

Two 520s ready to rock. One with a deuce one with a single. Deuce has double link chains for going "off road"! I have a blade for the atv too should sell it lest I mess up the old lady's driveway. Haven't had it mounted in years. What's up with the shovel head Jer? Check it out @Achto... thinkin the Fonz may have scooted on it! When's the last time you seen a king queen seat!?!?! Oh maybe when the queen was about 100 lbs lighter!.. ok all fairness I was a little lighter then too.... Needs some fishtails taller than the seat tho...

We do some snowshoeing to keep active during the winter. One trip we walked out the back door (daylight ranch so it's ground level) like we almost always do. Climbed up on the snowbank and went for a woods hike. When we came back in we followed our same prints. We noticed a black spot in the snow that wasn't there a couple hours prior. It was the TOP of our gas grille cover.

Right or wrong, with my 551 I decided to remove and not use any of the electrical /battery start parts. It's actually a nice running engine and starts on the 1st or 2nd pull usually. Old Lauson/tech electric ignition parts are getting really hard to find and are big bucks now. @formariz was a big help answering questions

Because I was tired of feeling under the tank for the gas shut off valve on my 867, I decided to do something about it. I replaced the old valve/tank filter with a inline filter that has a 1/8" NPT on one end and a 1/4" hose barb on the other and screwed that directly into the bottom of the tank. Then I bought a 1/4 turn valve with 1/4" hose barbs and installed it on the dash tower in plain sight. Finally, i removed the questionable fuel pump, made a nice 1/8" thick aluminum cover to replace the pump and ran the new gas line directly from the new 1/4 turn valve into the carb. Now , I'm happy to say, the engine starts immediately each and everytime. PS: I don't know what I'm doing wrong, but I hope this picture doesn't disappears after a few days like my other ones do.

Eric I have one of those blowers. What a beast 13.5 hp 28" I use it to blow the plowed snow to the side lot. I am getting a bit old for this blower = big and heavy a MAN`S blower not an old fart like me.

@Horse Newbie congrats on the progress of the chassis! I remember in 2018, the accomplishment I felt on Putt Putt when it finally sat down on 4 tires. To quote my build thread, “alas, I started some chassis assembly! I have to be honest here... I see a lot of pictures similar to this, where someone posts a frame with a few parts bolted on. Not that exciting until you realize how much work goes into getting ready for that moment! I am proud of this pic, there's more time and effort (err... Coffee/Pabst/Coors) into this than I thought it might take! Heading to bed early tonight, 2am has been the norm since Sunday, still up around 6 or 6:30. Time to shut my eyes for more than a nap.” Again, congrats!

You fellas up north can keep the snow. I am not a fan. North Carolina snow is fine with me- if it comes at all, here today and gone tomorrow because it's 75 degrees. I can only remember twice in my 50 years that snow stayed on the ground for a week.

Eww Case tractors? At the WH dealer, whenever a tractor I hadn't worked on before came in for service, I'd be like, "WTF is this piece or cr@p?" Mainly because I didn't know the machine. WH, Gravely, Locke, National, Bobcat, Lawn Boy, Stihl, Little Wonder, we worked on all of them every day. Anything else and 13 year old me would...."WTF is this piece or cr@p?"

Good idea Don. I'll do a little research and work out how much I'd need to add. @JoeM I currently have the Sthil oil in stock. Bout a six pack to double the warranty on the Sthil string trimmer I got earlier this year.
