10 pointsI thought you all might enjoy this. It is a 1930 Packard that my brother is doing an electrical and mechanical restoration on for his boss. He is the lead mechanic at a grain elevator. When there isn't alot of equipment to work on? The owner brings in his old cars to work on. He brought it to my place for me to build a battery hold down tray. Enjoy.

9 pointsCheck this out. We always need more hidey holes for our barn cats. I took 2 old night stands destined for the dump. We had an old crib mattress from when the grandbrats were babies. I took all the padding and put along side the drawers and under the bottoms. I put plastic in 1st so the cats can't get at the insulation. Then, I cut 6" holes in the drawer fronts. I screwed the drawers in. And, closed up the bottoms so mice can't get in. Pretty nice cat apartments.

8 pointsI just installed my snow plow, cable chains and rear weight on my 867. Bring on the snow so I can have some fun. Some may notice I replaced the bellcrank and rods that release the angle lock with a simple cable. I also move the blade trip spring lower anchor point forward about an 1" so the springs have less leverage which allows the blade to trip easier. Several winters ago I hit a cement expansion joint in my neighbor's drive the wrong way and I just was about thrown over the steering wheel before the blade tripped. PS: I plow fast; in 3rd gear at 3/4 throttle plus I have a little larger then stock pulley on the engine crank. How many picked up on the 4" extended frame? My new cable chains. And finally the 55 lb. rear weight. I normally put 2 blocks on the rear for a total of a110 lbs., but this year I'm older and just got plain lazy.

8 pointsPlowing with my youngest…seems like yesterday that I was doing this with Caleb. Trying to soak up every minute while I can, they grow up too fast!

7 pointsAlmost done with the 417-A. I had it running last week, but when I tried to start it this weekend, I found out the key switch had shorted out. I should have one this week. It had 6" wheels on the front when i bought it. I will eventually put 8" wheels on it as well as do something with the seat.

6 pointsSpent the afternoon in the garage today. Felt good to have a few hours un-interuoted to just tinker and wrench on the tractor. Previously, I had dubbed this tractor the "Night Ranger" as my plan was to do it semi-gloss black. This was my choice, even though I was building the tractor for my young daughter. I had picked up a can of Satin Magenta the other day, as I thought it would look super sharp on the Lawn Ranger. Not so bright and bubble-gum-y like a bright pink. I threw a quick coat of paint on the hood (came out like poop, but just trying to test the color) to see how it would look, and to see if my daughter liked it. Well, she loved the color, as do I. I think the pink with black accents will look super-sharp (vs a mono-chrome pink). So now, the Night Ranger has transformed to the Lady Ranger. Still have a lot to do on the project, but its nice to see it starting to piece together. Here she is, so far, with the test-color-hood. Excuse the garage mess, I need to do a full clean / re-organize.

6 pointsHere she is folks. It was at a consignment auction I went to 2 weeks ago. The sticker said. "Needs motor". I thought. I have a motor. I had bought 5 engines at another auction. So? $15.00 bucks later? I had myself a 20" Yard Machines tiller. I brought it home and proceeded to mount a 5hp.tecky snow blower engine to it. As luck would have it? The PO had the drive pulley and brackets in a bag with it. So? All bolted up? I proceeded to fire up my awesome tiller😁😁😁. How could I have known what would happen😢😢😢😢. I put her in gear. All ready to see the awesomeness. It drove... The tines turned just like the should. Plenty of power.😚😍. Then? I put her in the ground......... Well? The tines turned great. But? Houston? We have a problem. No drive😳. So? Because I am a genius? I determined the problem was the belt.. So? I re-aligned and adjusted it. Nope.. That ain't it. Hey genius? The tines are turning...... How could it be the belt? So? After the usual. Why do I buy this junk? I decided to split the case and have a look around 😒😒. There it was.. In all its glory. Looky here. The main drive spocket that is welded to the axle? Has a nice looking weld all the way around... Too bad it didn't weld to the axle. Yep. One little spot stuck. It drove until that let go 😳😳. I re-welded it. Now? She is awesome 😜😜😜😜😜

5 pointsWe've been really putting a bit of focus on maintaining and adding to our trail network the last few weeks. We use them for recreation in the form of walking, snowshoeing, or even an occasional tractor cruise. We use them in a life sustenance essential form because these trails are how and where we pull firewood from the forest. With our Annual Fall Gathering and Meet n Greet coming up here on the mountain side we wanted to set into improving the trail system so it would be usable by November 13th. Trina, her mom, and I have been adding a bunch of gravel to all the trails to help make them smoother and more tolerable for towing heavy loads. Side benefit is they're also more usable for the other folks coming up to buzz around the forest. Here's a video Trina made on her last trip out this evening. This shows the main path headed past the Horse stable next to driveway, out over the bridge, and to the right of the acreage. Note when she slows down the RPM. That's either a steep downhill or rough spot. About halfway through is a good shot of "Split Rock". Not in the video... the trail continues back on up the hill and out to the bridge.

5 pointsreferring to a regular issue of often corroded engine tin / cooling tins . try this out , battery ground rail , 4 ga cable main line , add to battery ground bolt point. cable down to lower corner of engine to frame bolt , serrated washers and dielectric grease, cable up to rectifier , mounting point , then up to headlight mounting point , unscrew every " tin " mounting bolt , reinstall with dialectic grease . this simple upgrade has eliminated my electrical problems . obviously if you have frayed or corroded connections , that s another upgrade . but this grounding enhancement , has made a problem go away , pete

5 pointsYesterday's activity. There has been a model train show/swap meet here in Sedalia for about 7 years. The proceeds from the show have gone to support the Sedalia Historical Society. We built a portable O gage trail layout with a Polar Express theme to use in kid's programs at the KATY Depot Museum. After one of those programs, we got invited to display the layout at the train show pretty much from its inception. Here are a couple of shots of the Polar Express layout and a second layout for some of my other trains:

5 pointsScored the mother load of Sears weights today. Just a tick over 32lbs each, think I did OK for $80. Also, got the solid 50lb Jacobsen set I got back from the Squonk mounted up on the Honda-Horse today as well.
-
5 pointsIt always seemed odd to me to trust unpainted metal to make lasting electrical connections on outdoor equipment, especially across several components. Tail lights attached to a fender bolted to brackets bolted to the transmission bolted to the frame is a good example. Dielectric grease on a direct-wired ground connection is my favored route.

4 pointsWill someone please wrangle a tracker, beacon, heck, or even a bell on @Pullstart to give us warning when that interstate horse poacher is at least roamin the area? Give us a chance to lock up our herd and chain down any horse in at least a 500mi radius so it dont get sucked into that durn horse gravity black hole in Southern Michigan, and barring that give us a slim chance to catch up to him and say "HI!!!!!!"

4 pointsI've inherited some of media you guys are talking about...slides, prints and negatives. I've got an ION PICS 2SD that can scan prints, slides and negatives to a card or to my computer. It will also print pictures onto photo paper in excellent quality. Other then finding long lost relatives, I look for pictures of the old automobiles, trains (steam) and air planes. Here is a scanned one of my Mom & me taken in 1950. Check out the wall paper.

4 pointsNot the direction you are going but I had a cart I sold to a friend. It was stock when I sold it to him. Next time I went to visit him, this was in his yard. All built with stuff laying around. I really like where yours is going. Going to be nice.

3 pointsHello, I'm new here, and just brought a GT14 home. It came from an estate, and there was no key. Is it like many other tractors where 1 or 2 keys fit them all? It hasn't run in awhile, but only has 826 hours on the meter if it works. I'm going to have many other questions, once I get started working on it, after I find a key. My biggest concern is the prior owner was installing a sickle bar mower on it that looks to be mostly(3/4 maybe?) complete. This little tractor looks like a very solid, and heavy duty built garden tractor. Appreciate any help! Thanks

3 pointsMy original thought is, like many of the off post items mentioned above, that perhaps the tire industry is reducing raw material usage / costs by reduced size of the end product…but marketing it as the same… that’s different than reducing volume, making the bag look the same size with air, but correctly noting the change in volume of the real product (chips etc.).
-
3 pointsSeems to be the luck of the draw if they run tall or wide. Especially when we buy these things sight unseen offa fleabay or whatever. My guess is like every thing else manufacturers are trying to use less raw materials. These are supposed the be 23-10.5-12 but look at how they stack up against 9.5 ?? orginals. About 3 year old ag tires. Not that i don't like ice cream Lynn but what has that got to do with tires? Good thread Sylvia

3 pointsThe good old days. In Mass where I raced in the mid 70's a yellow plate with black numbers was an amateur plate, novice black plate with white numbers and expert white plate with black numbers.

3 pointsYikes, I hope it isn't anything serious. Welcome to middle age. Maybe time to change this? : "Old enough to know better, too young to care" to: "Old enough to know better, starting to notice"

3 pointsI answered your YT channel before I read this. I'll "3rd" that the endplay is fine. Spare hubs can be had. If your grooves are bad then perhaps @WHX?? Jim can fix them. Excellent used hubs can be purchased from Lincoln at A to Z Tractor in PA.

3 pointsGood info Pete. I'm prone to grounding individual components. I run the main battery ground to engine block. Separate grounds to VR, all gauges, solenoid etc.

3 pointsBegan the rework of the Van‘s Rear Fenders. a horribly scenario i found... Never trusted a black lined Car... It hides mostly a unproffessional fixed or dead Bodywork. So i begun to cut out the Areal, to see when i will find good material to fix it clean. Few minutes later i be clear, this gonna be a heavier Bodywork than hoped, but not as bad as i feared. I can be saved, but it needs few squaremeters of Metal. Oh Boy, i must be a complete idiot to start that Rework. Sheetmetal repair was just sticked over the rotten old Metal. time to rework that to save the Rest of the Body. Cut out as far as needed. Wrong corrosion prevention shows the Results... Sadly the first repair was done with too much gunk instead of make it once clean. But there is some good stuff aside so a fixing is not complete imposible, just a dang lot of Work. Reconstruction has begun, 3 squaremeters metal was ordered Doing it Step by step. i have no Hurry, so i can make it Clean again.

3 pointsSecured the hubs, as they were dancing all over the place. Wet-sanded the hood, and cleaned and repainted my frontlight lens.

3 pointsChanged trans oil in the E 141… wasn’t to bad… Fabricated a custom belt guard out of a standard Black Hood guard. Works perfect. Rerouted some wires. Full lube all grease points and Everything else that moves… Took it for a long spin to see how long the batteries would last… after20 minutes I know it will do what I need to do… train rides usually last 10 minutes or so… She’s charging now… IMG_1048.MOV
