Found some “free” storage for some winter workers. Possibly the 42” plow on Stormy again, and room for a blower tractor too…

I'd ordered this door knocker from @Wheel Horse 3D Grey awhile back. The Paint Department tossed a coat of multicolor on it but was never quite pleased. Over the last few days she's corrected it...

Made it back home after over 5 weeks on the road. Thankfully it hasn’t snowed here in east central WI. The leaves are 3/4 down and was able to play with momma’s BIG RED diesel today. Another shout out to @Shynon for the deck and bagger system… worked great! the tree behind the tractor was planted as a sapling about 6 years ago. It is looking really nice and the pictures don’t do the color of the leaves justice. the diesel seems to eat through the leaves with a lot of “gusto”! These Xi series tractors really do make great workers!

I finally replaced the broken lamp in my oven tonight. It's 1970's-ish Tappan wallmount. Small, old, but keeps chuggin'! Well, as happens to all of us, while replacing the bulb I ended up removing the entire front panel, the door, all chrome strips, etc. You guys know where this is going. I might as well clean it all up as new! Now it's getting late, I gotta cook up this pizza for the kids soon! Crap. I have the oven door out in the shop soaking the inside with oven cleaner. After an hour or two and a coupla resprays I go out to clean it up. I could have sworn in the past when cleaning the brass/glass doors in my fireplace I did it barehanded using oven cleaner. Welp, today, I found out that I didn't. I was up to the knuckles on my left hand scrubbing with a foamy, soaked paper towel. When I went in to wash my hands later, I have some pretty good chemical burns on most of my left fingers. Heh, oops. So let this be the lesson kids, DO NOT, change the light bulb in your oven.

Hello all, so... im working on my new C111... except the model doesn't appear in Toro MPV... its 0111BH81 the serial number on motor puts its birthday as 02/05/1982... far beyond any C111 production. So... @Sparky dug araround and thinks it's a 1982 SB421 with a different hood/ decal. He also says that the model should have a dash like 01-11BH01 What's the story with the SB421 / the GT2500 / the C111 and there production after the newer body style was introduced? Thanks Tony

I assure you this site is the ((best/worst)) place to help you with this new affliction. 4-1/2 years ago I started with one little bitty horsey. Then Trina got hers. She now has 3. I have 2 runners, several projects. They're excellent machines. The fault though really lies with this website. You see, the folks 'round here are very helpful and kind. I've met quite a few. Very good people.

This is not a bad thing. I knew a couple of people who retired, did nothing, and didn't make it/live much more that 2yrs. A busy person has a reason to get up in the morning.

The "F" plate cracking is a very common issue. Most common on tractors that are used with a push blade. This is the reinforcement that I recently did to one of my tractors.

My starter worked but was making horrible grinding noises. I pulled it apart and found the bushing on the bendix end was badly worn to the point the armature was hitting the magnets . I got a bushing at the hardware store that with a little reaming fit nicely. Cranks nice and quiet now. I caught it before the magnets got destroyed. Bushing cost $4.40 .

Eyesome times think EB got way too much time on his hands and this is why his projects don't get done!

Johnny: Wow! That plate looks like it had a fight with a can opener and lost!. Seriously, there was a thread a while back about a member cutting the welds, removing the plate off the frame, and having a new one made at a local sheet metal / welding shop. Also, sounds like you MAY wish to replace the frame due to the other issues? Here is my version of the no longer available frame reinforcement plate and diagonal braces to stop the frame flexing (others have done similar) Bill

@whx my plans as of right now are to keep her for ever,I’m not a buy and flip guy. I’m blessed to have the proper place to keep her where she’ll remain in her pristine state. I’m not in this to make money with this purchase, on the contrary I had to scramble money for months to make this happen. I’m just unbelievably happy that I actually own this beautiful piece of Wheel Horse history and God willing I’ll be able to bring it to the big show in June. I truly look forward to seeing so many of you guys .

I forgot to post a pic of the finished oven. The glass panel at the top had decades of oven browning on it. inside and out. Handling the soapy glass panel in the sink was an experiment in dexterity. LMAO All knobs and hardware went into the ultrasonic cleaner. The crazy thing is, I think the clock is working again. All on it's own. Ha!

So…..I’m struggling with self control here. Against my better judgement I went back in and looked thinking I’ll just do it and beg forgiveness. Seller changed price from 750.00 to 2500.00. Said he had 55 offers over asking! Thank you who bid this up! You saved me the aggravation of a Renault….

Don't listen to him Tony. Being on his knees in the middle of the show field, drinking bad gas sooo many times has finally pickled his brain. Just look at his set up for plow duty this year.

I got interested in these tractors when I decided I wanted a riding mower. But I didn’t want a new plastic, China made machine. Stumbled onto WH looking at vintage tractors on the net.Never realized there was such a following. I love the mechanical aspect of these quality tractors, built to last and made in America ! I bought my first WH a 1971 800 special from a nice fella in PA.I restored the cutting deck . I use it mainly to cut grass and pull a trailer around the yard to do yard work. It’s a awesome machine, nothing made today doesn’t even come close to the durability and reliability as these old iron machines from a time gone past.

WHOAAAA, hey now!! @WHX?? just brought this thread to my attention! Ya see, long ago (not really), before the Wheel Horse addiction got hold of me, lanterns were my hobby. They even merged on a couple old lanterns! Not into it as much these days, sold off most of my collection, but still have maybe 60-70 kicking around. So cool to see folks still take interest in these things

Sorry Jeff - not factory. I made these - a different set for both my 854 and the C81. Yes, I added angle iron to reduce side flexure on both when they see compressive force as they do their intended job. (I'm a retired Machine Design Engineer....) Below is the one for the 854. Bill
  28. 4 points
True, I was not considering side flex and I don't think it would be an issue. I was looking at the relieving the stress pull on the low part of the F plate. If I backed into some thing really hard it may push on the bars and flex them. One thing that I like about mine when compared to the factory add on is that mine is actually bracing the lower part of the transmission to the frame of the tractor. The factory add on is still relying on the F plate and their bracing does not go as far forward.

I ran a Snow blower on my L-107. Didn't work out well for me. I have a lot of driveway to clear. Up to 6 inch accumulation i plow. Faster and easier than blowing. Tried the ranger with a 7-8 snow fall the first pass is the problem. Even in first gear had to slip the clutch a lot to keep throwing and not choking/stalling.... Of course in subsequent passes you can take a smaller bite and not have to slip the clutch but it took too much time.... Love my Ranger and she did well plowing but not blowing...After all most walk behind blowers are 8+ hp and they do not have to drag me along...

I will bring mine and we can have a pull off🤭. That would not go over well on many levels…

Actually, oven cleaners have historically been very strong bases. Usually sodium hydroxide. Also known as caustics and, essentially, the opposite of acids. Chemical burns from bases tend to be significantly worse than those from acids as the caustic materials can defat and penetrate much further. They often don’t trigger pain receptors as quickly either which can lead to more damage being done before the victim realizes. exceedingly nasty stuff. OP, you need to keep an eye on your hands and seriously consider having a professional look at the burns. You also mentioned the slippery soap…that’s another telltale characteristic of basic solutions. Bitter too. steve.

I have this 418-8 along with two 520-8s and I need to make some room for upcoming projects. Selling my very nice 418-8 with a nearly new rototiller. Weights are included in the price.

Dropped in my first refurbished K301,piston,rings,rod and valves, removed the balance gears.New carb. I think she’s running pretty good. The slight knocking sound is belt slap, next thing to do on the to do list list. My first build and I have to say these Kohlers are a pleasure to work on.This is a 12hp auto no name. My second WH .People tired to warn me.I’m already looking for another one.I can’t stop now,I may have a problem.😬 https://youtube.com/shorts/pzXG15gUrjs?feature=share

Thanks Eb! I listened this time. Wet sanded Sunday and let it sit for 48 hours so as not to reactivate the first coat. Turned out better than I hoped! Still mocking up the leaf vacuum. Pulleys will be swapped out later. It will run from the PTO like the factory vac, but with a few tweaks.

Thanks. It is an old picrture. Over the last 20 years I have been refining my snow removal fleet and for my work a hydro is the answer for plowing or blowing. Fast reverse for plowing and ability to get the right feed rate for blowing make hydros the clear choice,. (The big tractor and back blade haven't been used for several years now nor has the walk behind). I have two charger/electro 12s set up for plowing. One is getting 54 inch blade this year (the other has rubber chains and plastic plow edge for a short stretch of pavers). For several years I had an Electro 12 for blowing but a couple years ago gave her a 16hp engine. The 12 worked OK with the 16 I can go a bit faster in heavy snow... (Winter seat time is not something I look forward to )

I think it’s a genuine 1982 C-111 built with leftover parts just to get em off the shelf and out of inventory. If your model # has an 01 at the end it’s an SB421 and if your model # has 81 at the end it’s a 1982 C-111

Siggghhhh... dragged out Mike Martino's book on a whim. Its exactly what it says it is... im still happy a C111 is one of my favorites. An SB421 would've been a home run... but not this time

This is the repair using 1/4" thick 2x2 Angle iron...about 6" long. This method reinforces the corners as well as the mounting plate itself. WHEELHORSE FRAME PLATE FIX.pdf

I see a lot of guys do that but I’m tired of wrestling with these weights for the year. I’ve got the lean down anyways.👍. Thanks for the compliment.

To begin, I would put a 10-15 amp charger on the battery for 24 hours. It should charge to at least 12.3 volts. A bad battery can't be charged by the tractors lower amperage charging system.

I have new gaskets and air filter. The gaskets I have are for the carb attachment at the head to carb and air filter assembly to carb. I do not have a carb rebuild kit. When I was searching for this carburetor, I never ran across a rebuild kit. Concerns me if I will find one. Do you (Jim, my name is John) know a good place to look for these type of kits? I was keeping my eye out last time for a carburetor kit because I was scared, I would ruin the gas bowel gasket by removing it. It didnt break it but after not being in the carb for 2 days it looks a bit wonkie. I dont have a lot of confidence it will seal back up. I have worked on cars and trucks all my life but I have never rebuilt a carburetor. I guess my luck has run out. Honestly, just glancing at the carburetor I am not sure what I could take off next to get into the inner workings of this thing. lol ....I will look for YouTube videos. In the fifth picture I posted. Are those part numbers? 47 053 96 All you guys rock, I really appreciate the help and I look forward meeting and riding my 314 in a parade with you all. I will keep the pictures coming. I FOUND REPAIR KIT,,,,THANKS GUYS

Congrats Tony. Since my Panzer, do love the way they sound. I too, recently picked up these twin, early '50's model 6S Briggs engines for another project that's been sitting here.
