11 pointsThis is a bit of a long story but I have to tell it. Back in June at the big show I ran into a woman who I recognized but wasn’t exactly sure if it was her. She was selling a few items so I stopped to talk to her. As we were talking she said “Aren’t you Don, from Long Island?” And I said “Aren’t you Pam from Ohio?” We both were happy to meet again after many years. I first met Pam and her husband Mark at the first Wheel Horse show I attended, which was the second or third show. Mark’s C-125 that he restored inspired me to do my future restorations. When I asked Pam where Mark was she very sadly informed me that he passed away in December. Mark and I had become good friends at the show and I couldn’t wait to see him each year. He was the kind of guy that was a genuinely nice person. I was truly saddened by this news. In 2006 Mark came to the show with a 420-LSE that had 2 yes 2 hours on it. It was pristine and I was jealous! That year Cecil Pond was there and signed it for Mark. So after talking with Pam for a while I asked her about the LSE, she told me that she still had it. She also informed me that it wasn’t really for sale but she would consider selling it to me because she wanted it to go to a good home. Pam told me what she’d like to have for it and I agreed that was a fair price, however I didn’t have that kind of money at the time. She graciously said that she would hang on to it and not sell it to anyone else until I came up with the money.Four months later my wife and I made the trip to Ohio. We made a road trip/vacation out of it driving over 1900 miles round trip in seven days stopping at many beautiful places along the way.I must admit Pam and I were both a little emotional as I loaded up the tractor. So Mark Klingler I sincerely hope that you are looking down and are happy with what has transpired. Your beautiful tractor is in good hands and I promise to cherish it as much as you did for years to come.God bless. Thank you folks for reading this story.

6 pointsWell... on October 8th there was an ad placed here on Redsquare. A woman from nearly 3 hours north of me had 3 tractors to sell. She wasn't set on values so the ad said "best offer". I knew that wouldn't last long here without a listed price so I contacted to give advice on approximate worth. At that point I had no intention of purchase due to lack of time and space...... Helen had an idea of the value of the machines and was VERY appreciative of my help narrowing it down a little more. We later learned that she and her husband Sal had been a Wheelhorse dealer in NJ!! After going back and forth by email and phone a few times I began to feel like I should get set up to buy the C160 Automatic. Her general demeanor and the information about the tractor lead me to believe it should be a great runner. A couple messages later she found another C160... 4 , one stop. That's great. .... But a C160 Automatic!! So arrangements were made and yesterday @JCM Jim and I took a drive. The Pretty C160 is a 1975 Automatic. The one still wearing it's work clothes is a 1974 with the Tecumseh engine. OHV 160. I now have FOUR C160s by way of great luck. The 2 Kohler powered tractors are Cinnamon of course and now the new red one. @WHX?? Jim you'd be proud of me for owning a proper colored Horse. The '75 Auto turns over but doesn't start. Near as Helen can remember that one was restored by her husband about 12+ years ago. Jim and I are planning on messing about with it this morning. The Techie powered one I just picked up is a good solid original with decent sheet metal. It appears complete except the clutch/brake/park brake setup is missing... something. That'll need 4 tires to make it mobile and then we go from there. Engine turns. Transmission feels free and ok. It came with a short frame plow that's been PO modified a bit. The 417As are both.... rough. Neither is completely assembled and need good strong cleanings. (They were her primary mowers for quite awhile.) Both have a little wiring loose at the top of the engine. Jim and I aren't positive what's happening with the 417s yet. He'll be getting a good solid later model mowing deck and some other things from this excursion. @OldWorkHorse Steve buddy I've definitely got some space to clear so you'll get some more project material at the very least.... @AHS @WheelhorseBob @Stepney @Chestnut @Oldskool

5 pointsNotice the little mounting tab at the bottom. That is for attaching the bottom to the shaker cradle of a 1978 and later C-series so the muffler wouldn't shake loose. All replacement mufflers made after 1978 had the tab, even for the non-shaker models.

5 pointsThanks to @davidtmercer for responding to my wanted add!!! Im now the proud owner of my first battery powered - an E-141!!! Dave graciously offered to meet me roughly half way between our homes and we sealed the deal after a quick cruise around a Meijer parking lot… Haven’t dived into it yet but the Executive Board of the SL&WHN Railroad is looking forward to reducing its carbon footprint… As you can tell by the garage shots, the old gasoline powered ‘s weren’t quite sure what make of the carbon neutral hippie, but in the end they came around and let her in the garage when I explained to them quietly that the electricity that charges her batteries is from coal and natural gas…

5 pointsThank you guys for all your kind words. I honestly couldn’t be happier. This expense almost caused a divorce 😂😂 but luckily my wife understood how much this all means to me. @stevasaurus the lift table is also making my back happy doing any repairs or service work!

4 pointsJust my on the plate Don leave it blank or have one made in all just PO' names if you know who they are . Just set then on the hood for display and /or exhibits. I am quite sure with seeing your other exhibits you will not need much coaching. Still hopefully have dibs on the planter! We sure are happy this Horse is under your reins!

4 pointsWhen I worked at the dealer, we got a grand total of 1 of those in stock. It sat in the showroom in the special spot like the king of the universe. I remember uncrating it with a sense of wonder. 17-ish year old me didn't know what was inside, just expected a "regular" WH to assemble. "Chrome wheels? Chrome muffler? Lookit the freakin' seat!" Such a perfect example of a gorgeous machine. Enjoy it!

4 pointsI received a package today. Looks like it came from Johnny Mag's Magnetos and More Consortium of North American and Beyond, Inc. Oooooohhhhh shiny! I had to slightly modify the fan baffle. The right side of this coil had a slightly larger boss compared to the original Nothing a little "exactly" knife and some sandpaper couldn't fix. I mowed most of the yard and she stayed running. I won't know for sure until I can run her for 2 hours plus. Thanks @johnnymag3. Even though you gave me the "No Chinese food price", I still owe you for a few reasons: 1). You saved me some cash. B). I didn't have to worry if I was getting some cheap ripoff piece of crap. 36). My 310 is now officially JohnnyMag'd.

4 pointsWith that extra bend and larger can, I think it's a C-125,145 muffler. C160 Muffler looks like this: Look at this pic of the C-145 I had. You can see how "forward " the muffler is and can see the bigger can.

Perhaps you would write that, or just print off what you shared here, stuff it in an envelope and then into a couple of plastic bags and attach it somewhere sheltered on that beautiful machine. That story is part of the interest and value of that machine and I'd hate to think that someday they would part and the story be lost. Excellent!

4 pointsI think it just refers to the black hood series/years. For example: C-120 = 1973 to 1977 C-121 = 1978 to1979 C-125 = 1980 to 1984

4 pointsOkay I’ve got some questions to answer. It’s number 124 out of 200. The name plate on the hood is blank. The battery is not original, she put a brand new one in right before I bought it. I’ve since changed the engine oil, sucked out the old gas and ran it out of fuel. I couldn’t believe how long it ran on just the fuel in the line. I kept looking at the hour meter hoping it would run out of fuel 😂. Also serviced the transmission, pretty sure it hadn’t been done yet. Probably didn’t need it with only 17 hrs but I feel better knowing it’s had a complete service. Some of my friends that came to see it say that since I’m probably never going to sell it I should get the hood plate engraved with my name. I’m not sure about that? It wasn’t specifically built for me I know so I have mixed emotions about that. What do you guys think?

4 pointsThe rain and wind kept me out of the deer stand this week. So I spent some time rigging the new (1962) crabbing boat for next year. Tore out the old 15" transom and installed a new 20"er. Made a cleat and roller for the bow to assist in pulling the large crab pots and the anchor.

3 pointsI'm amazed at how much easier the 125 steers. Less weight on the front due to smaller engine perhaps? Or is it the tri-ribs? I'm going to have to learn about the K301 now... there is a 'knock' or 'rattle' from the engine. I really doubt it's piston slap, or bearings... but what I'm wondering about is the infamous balance gears. What does that issue actually sound like I wonder? Is removing the balance gears as easy as pulling the engine, dropping the pan, and removing the gears? Or is it more involved than that? I'm going to use the search function to see what I can find, but if anyone has any helpful pointers, it would be much appreciated! @Tach-a-matic Thank you again Paul !!

3 pointsThe future of the 2 417As is yet undetermined. They'll be here for a bit at least. The 2 C160s are mine. The '75 Auto will likely be the plow beast for this winter. Jim and I both drove it around the yard a minute or 3 today after some maintenance was done to get it running. I drained the old gas, changed the fuel line. Added a fuel filter. Cleaned the points. Changed the sparking plug. Removed and cleaned the fuel bowl which was right full of muck. Removed the air filter and left it off. Filthy! Someone had bypassed the fuel pump. Fixed that. The brake pedal was able to slide down beside the safety switch. Adjusted that. I used the @wallfish method of blow in tank to prime fuel. It started up and rumbled right to life. Here's the gas. 3 pointsGave the 310 a light degreasing and wash. Kinda blended the patched paint into the original paint. Heard were getting a rough winter, so I hooked my blower up too.

3 pointsI have been seeing more and more of these field mushrooms. A memory of when I was a kid, my dad would hand us a paper sack and off to a local milk farm pasture for picking. One memory was the button ones went into a buttery, creamy style soup. Larger ones were cut up and fried for a side dish at dinner. My mom just about cooked everything we hunted.

3 pointsBest not crank that tractor next to the Tundra. Horizontal hail damage might be tough to explain! Pop's tractor was full of acorns. Under the engine tins, toolbox was full, even around the steering gear. I've shot fuzz and hay out from a mouse nest above the flywheel, but no acorns here so far!

3 pointsI think they were made to compete in the lawn tractor category at a lower price point than the full sized horses. Here is mine. 54 years old and still used year around. She is my favorite Horse and my chore tractor. (When you get older you find that getting on an off her is a lot easier that her big brothers) Father bought her new in May 67 .. I added electric start because I am lazier than Father...
