13 pointsWell, I just picked up another project. This Wheel Horse was converted from a transverse engine to a longitudinal engine by using a 90° gearbox that was $200 as stated by the sticker on it. The previous owner put a Kohler command in it, therfore he needed to raise the hood and dasboard. I didn't buy the Kohler command as it was a bit to expensive for me. I am planning on putting a Kohler KT17 longitudinal on it. A big heavy boxer-motor sticking out on both sides! Transmission looks good, Hubs aren't loose. Steering is super tight, just like new!I think this unit hasn't see many hours wonderd what happend to the original K-engine. Next spring maybe repaint both my C's at the same time.

11 pointsWith all the damage we had from the storm it’s been working everyday day break to night fall. I am just exhausted from the whole thing . We had to cancel the overseas trip to see our parents because of it also. Finally pretty much all is restored and we are now waiting to board our plane. Will have some time finally to be on here dealing with some enjoyable stuff and not dealing with water mud rocks and destroyed stuff.

9 pointsFound this on offerup last night. Just happen to have an open engine bay. Looking for another electric pto.

9 pointsThe last photos here and the first few on the next post are of an old hotel they have on display that you can walk through, they also have a museum and an old train depot you can go through, as well as an old steam locomotive you can climb into and sit in.

8 pointsLast month we attended the Threshing Bee & National Two Cylinder Show in Fairview OK. Always one of our favorite shows, as it is fairly local, and always has a lot of neat working exhibits. I have been attending this show since I was a kid, but this was the first year I was able to take anything. We took our 1942 Case SC and a 1933 Maytag 92. Hope to take more next year, including our 753 and the two seater (if I ever get off my lazy rear and get them done). Was talking to a friend of mine that helps put on the show every year, he said they counted over 100 tractors on display, making the largest turnout they've had since the 80s

8 pointsI'll pull it off and get some pics Sqounky and you let me know you want it. I'll set it aside for you. I usually pull the deck off anyway on a new to me just to make it easier to work on the tractor. On to the FEL Thing is immaculate paint not even worn off the bucket. This will be my 5th 520 and the cleanest one yet other than the sno rig I got from Denny @dclarke. Only thing we noticed right away is the very beefy 18 inch V on the right side front can rub on the HY pump suction line fittings. You might never have noticed it Craig if you were running it on flat ground but on my uneven turf with the tires cranked to the left yep an issue. Fairly easy fix tho, rework the suction fittings or spin the pump 90 degrees and re-plumb. It was mentioned that the tractor was in the Duke's @HorseFixer s barn at one time. Craig built the FEL from PF engineering plans https://www.loaderplans.com/ and did a really nice job. Kev thought the welds all looked good and he knows way better than I. Only other thing is the seat & pto switch has gotta go. I couldn't get use to disengaging the pto which runs the HY pump so if you slid off the seat to get something in the bucket it kills the motor. To restart you have to get back in the seat disengage the pto then remember to reengage the pto for hydraulics. Way to much to remember for my lost brain cells! On the good side is she has also got a Matt's pedal kit on her. I have two other ones on 520s but this is the smoothest by far and I can appreciate how difficult it can be to get them set up perfectly. Tires are loaded, inside weights and he threw in the two suitcases so will look for more and possibly outside weights. After playing with the joystick you can get both bucket and arms to operate at the same time once you get her down. Thoughts on how/where to put a box for lifting chains? Maybe a hang on ballast box with rocks in it instead of suitcases in the middle and a space for for chains? Yah the joystick needs to get bobbed closer to the steering wheel.

6 pointsThis 953 jumped in my truck today! Between 953’s, 1054’s and projects in between, this makes more than I need. But… 1 bottom plow, 54” snow/doze blade, disc, … @Alliemorgan it was great meeting you as well!

6 pointsThis tractor has been great, when I bought it she was really really rough, she’s getting there! Below are some progress shots through her life. next up will be to blow the old wiring out and the 8 horse and throw a 10 horse k series in it. First picture is my son on it 1 year ago

6 pointsWhile digging through old photos for a family wedding recently, my mother ran across a photo of me as a kid on my grandparents C-175, which I later inherited after they passed. I figured it could be fun to do a little side by side of the two pictures. If anyone else has some then and now pictures of a Wheel Horse Family Heirloom I'd love to see them! Then (aprox. circa 1998?, not sure but I look to be around 9-10 maybe) Now (Circa 2019) A little comparison for fun.

6 pointsWell we were talking about wheelhorses and real horses. Just putting and emphasis on which one I was referring to. Your not stupid. There are rocking horses, stick horses, oh yeah …. let’s not forget Trojan horses and

5 pointsFor Helping me out with a nice trio of horses. Was a great weekend and loved doing windshield time with ya. Cindy says yer the perfect house guest! He brought over a show Senior from Eastern MI.on Friday night. We then proceeded on Saturday to pick up a fine fine 855 and an even finer 520H FEL from @cschannuth from MO who gracious enough to meet us half way in IL for the score. Saved eight hours off our travel time Craig! Yes wished we could have hung out more and chewed the rag. 855 is up and running with not much effort & more on that and the other horses later. Throw in some pics you got @Pullhosen’s Pony Express when yer done with today's score.

4 pointsUnplug your regulator/ rectifier. Check the outside two terminals on the plug with a muti-meter set on AC. With the engine running, you should have around 30 volts AC across these 2 terms. If this checks out, then your charging stator is good. ( If you have a reg/rec with 2 terms in line together and one below, then the 2 in line with each other will have AC. The one below will be the DC output.) Shut the engine off, set your multi-meter to DC. From the center terminal to ground you should see battery voltage when you turn the key to the run position. This checks to see if your key switch is connecting the battery to the regulator. Ensure that the body of your regulator / rectifier is grounded well. If all the above check out. Plug the reg/rec back in and start the engine. If you do not see 13.5vdc or above at the battery, then I would suspect that you have a bad reg/rec.

4 pointsOn to the 855 @Bailey855 I is catching up to you on the '65s Kev kinda wanted to go out and get it running last nite but I was road burnt and just wanted to kick back. To honor him after I threw his sorry @$$ out this morning I tied into her. Popped off the fuel tank and cleaned it up. Took off the gonna leak bowl and put on a regular gas cock. Had a brand new 70 amp switch in her and a new shift boot ....thank you Craig..... but the wiring was nothing up to my par so rewired her quick and gas lines. The gas line was 1/4" aluminum pilot line Squonky @squonk with compression fittings! Replaced it all with rubber and a filter. Threw a battery in it and she fired right off with a little sniffing salts. Thing runs sweet as a .... family site @cschannuth..... even mowed a bit with her. I have no idea what I am gonna do with it I certainly don't need a mower. I can see it as a good tractor to throw the mid mount blade on and give that smoker 867 I got from @Shynon a rest. Very possible as a ride around at next year's show circuit.

4 pointsDuring it’s stay, I set it to mingle with the other classics hoping for baby seniors to pop out.
-
4 pointsReason for the name change y’all… well part of it. Mrs. P and I picked this Senior, a 1 bottom plow and a cultivator up from @gt-mtb a few weeks ago. He’s a great guy and helped us load it very carefully.

3 pointsHello all. I’ve been a member for a while, so thought I should introduce myself after seeing that this forum seems to be a friendly place for folks to frequent. I’m from Indiana and inherited 2 Wheel Horse’s from my parents. One is a ‘75 C-100 and the other an ‘88 310-8. Not the greatest photo, but it’s the only one I have with both in the shot. I’m currently doing work on the C-100 and using the 310-8 to do work. I hope to post more about my adventures here and to get to know you more in the process. Thanks, Ed

3 pointsSo winter is not far off, and show season is over, what are you guys doing to store for the winter? Last year I drained all the fuel and ran the carbs dry and didn’t seam to have any issue. I am running ethanol free fuel too. The 2 Rjs will be in a heated bacement but the c81 and commando will be in a cold shed. Should mention I am in Western PA where it’s 20° one day and 65° the next. Haha

3 pointsYour Newbie .. I enjoy the threads when a guy just wants to get her in good mechanical shape and work it some more. That's seems to be more my speed these days. A full blown resto can can complicated not to mention $$. Often times than not a guy has got that much time and money into it he's afraid to stick it in the dirt. I'm more of a subscriber to the @Achto school of restoration except mine are not as pretty as his so when I stick in the dirt I don't feel as bad! That said it better be Grampa's tractor before I do another one (resto). Or a bucket lister that is too far gone to do what you are doing. It is, it's got the same roots as C-160 and don't let any one tell you different. Now your taliking our lingo. We are here to help you over your UNLIMITED skills that you have but just don't know it yet.

3 pointsI either empty the tank or add Stabil shut off the gas and run them till they stall pull the choke at at the end to empty them completly. if you have a Techy a lot of then have bowl drains a great idea...
-
3 pointsThat loader wouldn't have left the show me state if I hadn't wanted to make it to my 34th anniversary this month!!! Pretty jealous over here!! Randy
-
3 pointsThat's right. Parasitic drag from dull or no paint is responsible for at least one mph when mowing... And the reflected glint from a polished hood actually improves vision, and helps clean yer teeth because of refraction induced perma grin! Well, I don't wear spandex, but my head is purdy slick... Provides a good rhythm when it rains... Tap, tap, tap in a light rain, and indian drums in a shower!

3 pointsThank you everyone for the well wishes. Got here a couple of hours ago and they are already feeding me. It’s all about eating well here. I guess when I get back I am going to have to pickup the push mower again. @Pullhosen’s Pony Express I see that I missed the name change event. I’ll be posting photos from here as I go.

3 pointsYour maintenance skills seem a bit lacking there @squonk
-
3 pointsAs I'm sure you are well aware there's a thousand different ways you could go about doing that. A couple that I have put serious thought to is to buy a box type enclosed trailer with a fairly high ceiling and make the nose to levels. That's where your bed would be. Still have room to slide two or four tractors in there given correct sizing. Another one that we were thinking about is to buy a trailer that is specifically meant for hair covered horses. Those are often easier and less expensive to find. Many of them will carry six or whatever of the animals and have a small room in the nose for the horse tack or even a restroom/bedroom area.
-
3 pointsI know it is hard to see but this is a pic of the front wheel on my 30 HP diesel loader tractor (not a wheel Horse). From the factory, it came with 2 studs and the rest are bolts. Having at least 2 studs gets the wheel properly lined up to get the rest of the bolts in.
-
3 pointsThat may be a blessing… I’ve seen the gene pool in @Pullhosen’s Pony Express’s barn…
-
3 pointsGot her in the shop now. Repacked a leaking sediment bowl and added a filter. Gas has got an odd milky color but starts first pull and runs better now.

3 pointsEvery year for who knows how long Trina's family has gotten together in the fall to apple pickin. Location depends on who's able to attend. This year we went to Brackett Orchards in Limington Maine. Great place. Here's some pics of the views from the farm.
