6 pointsI figured some o folks would find this interesting... https://www.hotcars.com/10-most-ridiculous-classic-car-features-everyone-forgot-about/

6 pointsThanks to insight from Mr. Phil Bowling, a member here for quite awhile and frequent big show attendee, I got my copy of “ straight from the horses mouth”today and can’t wait to read it. Thanks again Phil for looking out for me. 👀

6 points...arrived here today. A couple custom designs Richie and I collaborated on. Sooo damn cool being able to take my Senior everywhere I go, on a daily basis. 20211006_160955.mp4 Gotta say you knocked the idea out of the ballpark. 20211006_161918.mp4 They both turned out pretty sweet my Wheel-Horse brotha man. Thanks so much. @19richie66

6 pointsFrankly, I think your tractor will look a bit odd wearing that hat. See if you can persuade it to let YOU wear it!

5 pointsTook a few pics of my tractors in my shop , i think i need another shop !! There is two more , a 312 8 and a 312 Hydro that didn't get there pics taken. The tractor with the big WHEEL HORSE letters was a pulling tractor i bought from a guy. It has a 16HP in it that runs really well. The 1995 F150 4X4 has a 300 six cylinder and AOD and only 47,000 miles. My FIL bought it new for a farm truck , but fortunately he quit farming after he bought it and it just sat.

5 pointsSelling the following: 310-8 Runs needs new battery. GT-1642 Needs battery. Last started about 2 years ago. 520-8 Needs battery. Last started about 2 years ago. Tall shoot single stage blower in pieces. Snow blade with extensions for the 520. 1200.00 takes it all.

5 pointsI've never seen any of those features, but there are plenty of features not in use anymore that I wish still were. Thats one of the reasons I like driving my old 74 GMC so well...hand crank windows, wing windows, floor mounted dimmer switch...the list could go on. One thing I think I miss more than anything is having the wiper switch on the dash, I despise those stupid multi function switches, the only thing that should be up on that side of the column is the turn signals.

5 pointsWell it’s been a little over a year on the 876 project. With the exception of the cover for the engine/starter generator and putting the hood back on (still have to save a few bucks for the decal set) …..ITS DONE B4EB384D-18C2-40C5-A951-B9F9602F91DC.MOV IMG_0031.mp4

5 pointsWell finally pulled trans from the 1054 torn apart. Not a day too soon. And oh my broke the same gear as @prondzy, going back together good as new. Let's turn some dirt @pullstart @Achto @WHX??

4 pointsLOL she’d probably just shake her head. I don’t surprise her anymore . There’s one of those type of camps down the road from me. I sold a golf cart to a member there but had to wait for him at the gate because I wasn’t allowed in the back. I thought those people were comfortable being naked?
-
4 pointsThat depends on how big you were (are) I miss the auto headlight dimmer ray guns on the dash and the vacuum wipers that quit when you mashed the gas pedal!
-
4 pointsStarted taking one of the Commando 8s apart and going to paint it. PO painted it with a brush.
-
4 pointsI still kinda miss the wing window, for bringing air into a vehicle.
-
4 pointsDid I tell you guys that I bought a hat for my horse? Don

4 pointsAgain, I hope I did not give the OP more than he wanted in this thread. I just wanted to be sure and give him information that he could make an informed decision on the replacement engine. Wheel Horses that won't carry a mower deck, snow blower or tiller can run with almost any engine. But if you plan to use the tractor to work with (engaging that manual PTO), it's best to use an engine that won't give you problems later. I want to help keep these old machines going, and not going to scrap!

4 pointsInteresting thread. For the sake of keeping everyone on the same page, belt pressure on the PTO should be referred to as radial load and the pressure of engaging the PTO should be referred to as thrust or axial load. Someone said it before me but it is easier to follow that way. I’m only in favor of engine swaps if the stock engine is beyond repair or going to a bigger version of the same type engine. K series to bigger K series etc. I also know that several companies have offered repower kits that are designed to ensure everything works as it should. I would consider those if I could afford it. This is just me and my 2 cents. Of course it’s yours and you should do what suits you.

4 pointsJust Made some teak foot rest covers as they had gone out of shape and a bit weak . I’ll bolt these through the metal and it should give them some strength back. Transmission is back together and bolted back on. might get the old girl started at weekend

3 pointsWell the Ole Ball N Chain has been some busy around the yard here. She works from home 3 to 4 days a week. Some days her job is pretty forgiving about the time it takes to perform and intervals of checking in on the system so Trina can get some things done on occasion. Lately she's been doing a pile of clean up getting rid of the raised bed gardens and distributing that dirt elsewhere.... Amongst 37.2 million other tasks. She spread some of the rehomed aggregate down the woods path.
-
3 pointsFolks I had The Photography Department take a very special pic for you. Especially @SylvanLakeWH and @Stormin The view. From the seat. Of the future Colossus.
-
3 pointsI bought a set of "Terra-Grips" to use this year. I have a set of regular chains but thinking I didn't want to F up my new asphalt! Hopefully they will give me enough grip. I shouldn't need as much grip with the blower as I would with the plow, so I hope they work out well. I got the side extensions from my friend at a local metal shop. They bent the 30° angle, I finished the radiused corners and the mounting holes. All done! Waiting for snow!

3 pointsI'm glad you feel that way. Sometimes I lose the ability to just leave well enough alone, and not to mention I have been diagnosed as being "shut up" gene deficient... I wanted a second opinion about that diagnosis once, so I discussed it with my wife. She confirmed it for me! I can never make things simple. I can't tell you how many times I've broke something just because I thought "one more" whatever would make it better. It makes my builds way better, but I spend alot of time fixing stuff I broke in the process!

3 pointsRemoved the loader off the JD today for an oil change etc and before I knew it the Horse was trying to hook up with the Deere, don't think the Horse succeeded.
-
3 pointsit’s easy to tell where the new paint went. It’s miles better than what it was but it’s still just a rough work tractor. id say it at least looks good from 10 feet now!
-
3 pointsAgain, no brick walls that can't be overcome... but definitely some... I don't think so. Guys need to be made aware of these things... these conversations need to be talked out among gear-heads. Somebody else... potentially to infinity, will read this and get informed... particularly since there are good engines, bad engines, and VERY bad engines... Some guys might want to go really cheap and buy something like an Ironton... predator... or the like... and do a bunch of work... but have a failure. Hopefully by what we have said here, guys will be able to avoid some headaches... I would say, as others have said here... if you have to swap, either going with Kohler repower, or if that cost is too much, going with an engine package that has been built solidly, and durably... which I have already mentioned. To other guys, I might recommend a predator... or something cheaper. Not for this application. My... Don

3 pointsI have the same transmission apart { 1" axle 8 speed }. this is what the shifters should look likr down through the hole. As for cleaning the gas tank I would use Oxi Ciean and hot water.
-
3 pointsMaybe a picture would help? This drawing has the loads on opposite ends of the shaft, but the net result is the same. The bearings in the engine need to be designed such that they can withstand the AXIAL THRUST from the PTO clutch trying to push the crankshaft INTO the engine. RADIAL load pulls the shaft AGAINST the bearing. Only engines with proper AXIAL THRUST rated bearings should be used. An ELECTRIC CLUTCH does not produce AXIAL thrust the way that the the 'standard' WH MANUAL PTO assembly does.

3 pointsI've been calling this my B-160 for years. It started out as a 1976 B-80 that I purchased brand new. As mentioned already the 76 & 77 B's are identical to the C's save for the horsepower, low back seat vs high back, 22.750-12 rear tires vs 23.850, 13" steering wheel vs 15", headlights optional on the B's. I bought the headlight kit with the tractor and a couple years later WW Grainger was closing out the Kohler K's and I latched on to a crate K-341 for around $250.00. Easy peasy swap and the B-160 was born. Years ago this was used to mow, push dirt, snowblow, till and plow. Today it mows in the simmer with my wife piloting, in the winter it runs a snowblower. I prefer to push snow with the 05 Classic just because it's more fun than using a blower.

3 pointsFunny thing about this tractor. I have a friend that has his dads Wheel Horse that his dad bought new in the early 60's. It too has the 701 double groove pulleys, smooth belt guard, same style serial number sticker, but also has a 702 hood. He said his dad never changed anything on the tractor. It has the 701 fenders with the support bracket. I can not remember the serial number. And I think it has the 701 steering gear. I will have to look when I see it again.

3 pointsOn a two cycle engine the fuel/oil mix goes through the crankcase where it is pressurized prior to entering the combustion chamber. Let us know how this works out for you!
-
3 pointsAll of my plow day junk is still the way it was left last year… broken. I took a cruise with my niece in the field yesterday, wondering how all these chopped corn stalks might plow. I might hafta stick something in the ground soon, just to try to make believe I’m at the plow day.

3 points18 HP Briggs will have ball bearings, the rest will not unless the second-to-last digit in the model number is a 3 or 4.
-
3 pointsI have one coming, thank you to everyone ! These fun projects I get myself into. This 1277 is a junkyard save. It made it into the yard, a phone call was made and I came to the rescue.

2 pointsIs it odd that even though we haven't met personally, I completely understand? We men all seem to get to this same point I guess! My wife says having my children helped her understand my "ways" after watching the kids grow up- helped her understand why I do what I do. Made no sense to me at all. And I just spilled my Fruity Pebbles while typing this...
