So wife and I decided we weren’t getting any younger. Bought an RV while we have the energy to enjoy it. I Also she said the grand kids were getting to a good age ??(1,2,3,5 years old) Not a toy hauler but can pull a trailer. PO removed kitchen table and put in this bar counter and double recliner We’re camping at Inks Lake State Park (15 miles from home) to learn the ropes. Still undecided if we’ll get a TOAD to pull behind it. Enjoyed doing some kayaking on the lake today.

Im back guys and gals. Its been a long time! To get everyone up to speed. March of this year, I bought my first wheel horse tractor. 1986 417a. Tractor/mower were in fantastic shape. Has 850ish original hours. Chrome wheel caps,. Engine ran like a top and trans was smooth and solid well, a guy drove by my house a week after i bought it. He seen my kids driving it, and said he wanted to buy the 417a from me. I told its not for sale, but he is welcome to make a offer Well he made a offer for way more than i bought it for, so i ended up selling it to hi, Great news tho, This week i was able to buy it back, for 100 dollars more than i sold it to him for , plus he bought a snowblower for it (and it was included in the sale) So, I have my old (first wheel horse back!!) Now, even better news, the next day I found a 1979 c-141 gear drive with deck for a good price. I ended up buying that one too! SO now, im back, with 2 new horses in the barn! And i must say, i love the 417a, but i think i prefer the c-141 much more. I love the gear drive. I love the k321 engine, It runs so good, trans is smooth, clutch is good. Paint is faded and gone in some spots, but the "patina" is what i love. The 417a is a great tractor and will work good for snowblowing the drive this winter........But i think i need more c series tractors in my life. They feel "stronger" to me. Built like a tank!

Just picked up a 21 ft. 6 in. horse hauler 6 ft. wide 2 5/16 ball. It holds 8 tractors! Tried to pull it with my '73 C-160 with a 10 hp transplant and kept popping wheelies! Had to get my truck!

The cheap GL-5 I get from Wally World says "Protects against rust, foam, high temperature and corrosion of copper or bronze bushings." On the other hand my L-107 which is used year round several times a week in the summer 1-2 times in winter, has been running SAE40 motor oil for 54 years now. Changed every few years. No issues still runs great. Bottom line don't obsess over oil just keep the water out...

I sold my 312-8 to my aunt cause she needed a mower, didn't wont her to buy some new not so good mowers No real complains other then all those grass clipings. So she wanted a mulcher since bagging ain't an option. Well I gave it a shot and I think it came out good, test day is saterday so hoppefully it's gone work too.

30w will do no harm to your engine in cold weather. 10w30 may help your engine turn over easier in cold weather. I live in central Wisconsin and I run 30w all year around in my Kohler engines. They turn over a little hard at below 0 temps but getting them running is not usually an issue.

GL-5 should be in the description no matter the weight. That is an additive that is needed in these types of transmissions.

@WHX?? It’s a 2019 Chevy C4500 chassis with the 6.0 gas engine and 6 speed transmission. Has an added torsion bar over rear axle and added rear helper air bags as part of the Coachmen Freelander 27 ft RV chassis package. The PO pulled a Jeep, then a Ford 4 dr Ranger as his TOAD. The Ranger seems a little heavy for it @pullstart were familiar with the rental market as our son has a Ford Transit van we built into a camper 18 months ago. It has rented very well. There are secretaries very popular RV parks on the lakes and Texas Hill country near where we live We’ve talked about just renting a spot nearby when we’re not using it and rent it as a set up unit. But we need to learn a little more about the camper first

From time to time I get asked what is a WH IV bottle. Nothing to fancy. Just a washed out old grease bottle with a hose clamped on the nipple. I use a sheet metal screw in the bottom that I remove to vent. When I am done I dump out the left over fuel.

You should visit N. Dakota. If you see 3 trees on a 20 acre plot, it's most likely a protected sate forest.

No, 30 will not damage your engine in the winter. It really depends where you live. The manual suggests 10W-30 for winter use, and they give a chart. If I lived in Green Bay, Wis. or farther north, I would consider the change, but if your winters tend to be on the mild side (like mine) I would not worry about it. I also have the option of not having to do snow if it is like 10 above zero. Most of my snow moving duties are in the Teens and Twenties "F".

I bought this kit on Amazon for $11 and it has sealed bearings, so we will see how it works out. Randy

I got the plumbing and wiring done. A 10 gallon test and everything is holding where it needs and releasing where it should go. Green light for diesel fuel. Simple gravity feed to the truck tank. With just 10 gallons, it flows through the 3/8” line and filter system quite quickly based on the bubbles flying through the sediment cup.

I spoke to the gentleman on the phone and everything seems legitimate. He’s out of state and he is currently trying to figure out how to get the tractor transported.

Unfortunately, they don't come with an Owner's Manual. Just let them know that they are loved. Encourage them, and enjoy them. They grow up too fast. Jim

I am working on a C-121 and the spindles had some pretty worn spots from lack of maintenance on the wheel bearing and thought I would share this here rather than in my C-121 thread. That way it was searchable for others. I am sure there are other threads on this but this is how I am repairing mine, not the only way and some may not agree with my repair. To me welding them up or brazing and then reshaping seems like a lot of work for a 5 mph tractor. I used JB weld and then filed them to rough shape and finished with 220 sandpaper. I will try to remember to update this later and see how they hold up, I tend to used things like a rented mule!

Thanks Ed but I did go nice and easy. The front went right up. I backed up a little no problem and tried to go forward again. It moved a little then the wheelies again I gave up and got out the truck

While you guys are cranking down on those grade 5 & grade 8 bolts, just remember that the threaded hole might be in a softer cast iron.

Not a bad idea using JB to patch the axle, that stuff is pretty amazing and I wouldnt be surprised if you didnt get at least 2-3 more yrs out of them..... I gave up on that horrible mess/method of lubing the bearings by cramming almost a full tube of grease in that big cavity hoping some would get to a bearing!! Some several yrs ago I found a "lot" of 10 sealed bearings on the bay for .... cheap, and thats all I use now -- no probs. In fact I ...think? I've got one 48" deck that I changed over to sealed that must be in its 6th or 7th season. Had never seen that Amazon 'deal' -- that looks like a keeper to me.

That is a nice rig. A few years ago I bought a 91 model 27' class c. It was nice but it was always too big for my liking. Then we went to a pop up truck camper, but without a dedicated truck to leave it on it was always a pain to load and unload it every time we wanted to use it. Finally sold it and just last week traded for a nice home built setup on a 1974 GMC chassis. Congratulations on your new home away from home and wishing you many years of enjoyment out of it.

the 417a just had its oil changed before i got it. Looks really clean. I plan on doing 2 new spark plugs tonight on it The c141 gets a new spark plug tonight with a oil change. Straight 30w detergent is what the guy ran in it, so i will continue to do that with rotella 30w both tractors got fresh grease the other night after the wash. The c141 with the faded/thin paint got a nice coat of fluid film over it with a gentle wipe down. It has a nice coating now LOL

Time to welcome another new addition, only this time it's not a tractor.... On August 30th my wife and I welcomed our first child, a beautiful baby girl into this world. I've already made sure to inform my wife that I will in fact make sure she loves tractors, and now that we have a new family member that means I need to find her a tractor of her very own...right? Any tips or tricks for a first time dad, whether tractor related or not, are appreciated All jokes aside, I am just so grateful to have this little one in our lives. Thankfully everything went smooth, and both she and my wife are doing well. I have found myself inspired by watching my wife throughout this whole process, she took so quickly to being a mother and witnessing it has been amazing. I am a very fortunate, and lucky man.

Never rent your RV, listen to what squonk had to say. In addition to breakage, many people have no clue about operating the various systems,. Add poor housekeeping and hygiene, It can be a nightmare.

These 8-speed rear axle/ transmissions are extremely tough and not overly fussy. I use the least expensive 80w 90 I can get my hands on. Straight 90. 85w140. Anything up in that range would work just fine. Nothing fancy necessary.

If they are stale dip them in your coffee, if they are new.....dip them in your coffee. I like pumpkin pie, and soup but not fancy fofo drinks. just black coffee I think we should celebrate halloween in September. The candy is fresher.

I too run 30w oil year round. The building they are kept in isn't heated. I see no difference in the way they start in the winter vs the summer. They usually start at the turn of the key, even when the temperature is in the teens and lower.

Back in the olden days when @elcamino/wheelhorse was a teenager, I used Chevron 10W in the winter. no wonder my Teckys blew up!

@RandyLittrell , good save attempt on those spindles , recommend trying , lucas xtra heavy duty chassis grease, on those wear / bearing areas , also pack the bearings , really stands up , use it on all my stuff , no issues , walmart , 5 $ , pete

I will have to get some over this weekend Im trying to get info on the hood emblems my tractor has. Its on each side of the hood, right in the decal. I cant find another tractor anywhere with these same emblems. Im thinking someone added them at some point.....
