10 pointsDid some "light" mowing at the new place with the C-160. Front half of the property wasn't too bad at roughly 14" tall, but most of the back half was at least even with the top of the hood. Didn't come out looking great, nor did I expect it to. It'll take a couple more trimmings before it starts to look right again. I'm thinking that a RD deck would've been great for this. My initial pass is always going the wrong way so that I can get close to fences. That's typically fine, but when the grass is 3' tall, you wind up essentially having to mow that row again in addition to the row beside it once you turn around. A RD deck doesn't care which direction you go; it just throws it behind you.

9 pointsHello, I'm new to the forum and to Wheelhorse so please correct the model if I've mislabeled. This was my wife's grandfather's tractor and has been sitting in her dad's garage for the past 21 years. Unfortunately her dad passed away last year and lot of the history of this tractor went with him. He and I did attempt to get it to start before he passed but we figured out there were several things that needed fixed. work done so far: replaced spark plug, points & condenser, ignition coil, fuel sediment bowl, cleaned & rebuilt carburetor - it was pretty nasty with debris inside. I verified spark by grounding the plug to the frame and can see a spark in daylight when I turn the pulley and the magneto fires. I'm also getting fuel to the carburetor. Fuel had been leaking at the sediment bowl. current known issue: 0 psi compression according to my meter. I also put my thumb over the plug hole and while turning the pulley I don't feel any pressure. I poured a little oil down into the plug hole and it came pouring out of the exhaust. After doing this the pulley flywheel spun much easier when I wound and pulled the rope. I tried starter fluid and can get a pop once in a while but the engine won't fire. I'm not very experienced with taking apart engines so any advice or test ideas are welcome. There are a few implements I'll post pictures of: plow, cultivator, and a broken harrow. All anyone else can remember about this tractor was her dad needed to pull start it with his Ford 9N. Thanks! Mike

5 pointsThank you all for the very kind words, thoughts and prayers. I started back to work part time this week and Howard and his wife went on a mini vacation (overnight trip). We are both doing well, physically and in good spirits. I deployed to Afghanistan twice and my little brother four times....please keep our military in your constant prayers and that they are allowed to get our people home.

3 pointsWhat a wonderful gift to remember your wife's grandfather by. That is one of the best looking RS-83 survivors I have ever seen. I would suggest you turn the crank until the piston is near TDC (top dead center) and then fill the cylinder with some MMO. Let it set for a day or two and it may free up the rings and valves. I have had good results with it.

3 pointsLocal antique days. One load ready to head up town. All lined up and pretty. Even threw in a Lawn Boy for a splash of blue. Can you guess which tractor got it's picture taken the most?
-
3 pointsTractor is a hydro with a 42” SD deck. I had it pretty much wide open and crept slowly most of the time. The tractor mows great when it’s not 3’ tall - just a bit too much for it as I couldn’t keep it from clogging the discharge. Thanks! Place needs a bit of work but it’ll get there.. Plus it has a shop (a small one), and I’ve never had that luxury before now.

3 pointsYes- there are issues with 16hp Kohlers. Well known and documented. ...they are loud, and cause unusual feelings for the operator similar to what a skydiver feels on the first jump. They have also been known to induce feelings of jealousy from any bystander. But otherwise no problems at all. Keep them clean and full of oil, and enjoy the power. Magnums have all the benefits of the K series, but none of the complicated coil and points ignition. Not hating on K series, but if a Magnum turns over, it will usually crank and run. BULLETPROOF!

3 pointsOverseas to Europe I can help you out, and internally in the US, you are good with the options already mentioned. Strap it to a pallet and send it as is........... And as always, should anyone be in need for transport overseas, I have the next container leaving the US in about 4-6 weeks, so now would be the time to ring the bell

2 pointsHope I don't get flamed for this!The Onan on my 418H took a dump & I found a 21HP Kawasaki twin & put on it 10 yrs ago & it's still going strong.

2 pointsto the forum. Bunch of good helpful folks here. Someone will be along soon with more information for you. That is a really nice tractor. Don't give up on it. If it were mine, I would see if it has some sort of valve cover that could be opened to observe the valve operation. Lacking that, I would consider pulling the head to see if the valves work as they should. Might want to go easy on the starting fluid. It detonates hard enough that it could damage one of these small, old engines. Carb cleaner is gentler. Good luck, have fun, and keep us posted.

2 points@ZXT , just curious ,did you use low range / hi gear for that cutting ? getting the most efficient pto drive speed and deck speed for that field ? have r/d decks on my 3 horses , , always get good cut , if your deck is clean and your blades are sharp it always looks good . pete

2 pointsGonna make an addition to the rear end of this machine, and change how the lift works. Had to drill out the spot welds to get the plate out. I hoped that it wouldn't take completely drilling through, but the were darn good welds. More to come.

2 pointsNew member, long time lurker here. I wanted to share my most recent Wheel Horse acquisition. It's #71. As you can see it's in pretty rough shape. It's missing the chrome wheels, leather seat, chrome mule drive, and chrome deck wheels. I recall when the original owner traded this in about 10-12 years ago to the original dealer who sold it. It was used, but definitely not abused. It was then purchased by another gentleman who had it for a short time. He was the one who stripped the chrome parts and seat off of it. It was then in turn sold to someone else who used it up until it's current state. The hour meter quit working at 1002 hours, the engine smokes a little, the paint is faded, and it needs miscellaneous small parts. The drive belt idler pulley was bad and it kept throwing belts, so I was able to pick it, along with a fair 48" deck and 42" front blade for $300. Hopefully the gentleman who swiped the chrome parts and leather seat still has them and would be willing to let them go. But for now it's going to make a fine worker.
