8 pointsGentlemen, I have a lot on my plate and limited storage space. I inherited my father's WH 1045 with mower deck and blade, and I am debating whether to sell it to someone who wants to spend the time lovingly restoring it or hang onto it with the vague intention of doing the same one day. I already have a 1999 model John Deere 445 to mow with and a much larger JD 3120 diesel tractor for real work, so the 1045 is a play toy by comparison. But there is sentimental value attached: I recall riding with my Dad on it as a small boy, and later as a lad, pushing dirt around with the blade, like a giant, self-propelled Tonka toy. It did run about 4 or 5 years ago but it is in need of steering work and new tires (the originals are dry rotted and split). At present, the transmission seems to be locked up, but I think this is a problem we've had before and may just be an issue with getting it back into neutral so that is will roll. And I have the casing and some of the interior parts for another transmission. Any thoughts? Any idea what I should ask, should I decide to sell? Cheers, Dave Queener Knoxville, Tennessee (865) 209-5654 (c)

8 pointsI have a 1950's DeWalt radial arm saw sitting in the corner of the shop. As a matter of fact, for you "Leave it to Beaver" fans, Ward had the identical saw in his garage on the show! But anyway, I was taking pictures of it one day and my wife asked what are you doing? I told her I was going to put it up for sale because I don't use it. Someone might like to have it. She said "that is all you go left from your Dad, no..... you are not selling it!" I pushed it back in the corner and it sits. I do know everytime I look at it I think of the old man. She was right but I ain't telling her.

7 pointsWorse is when you are wearing the paper gown and nothing else. I was in the room for an hour, which is typical, but remember this is a bad news and worse news scenario, and some of the patients receive devastating news. So i put my clothes back on and went to the reception desk and told them that i was not waiting in the paper suit any longer and they directed me to a little room that had some creature comforts and keep me quiet. We soon heard why the dr was late with all the sobbing going on in a little room next to ours. I felt pretty foolish then Fortunately, my news got better as time went on and they never say the word cured, but it has been ten years and counting

7 pointsSince, cents sense I worked at my local hospital for 14 years, I'm still on a first name basis with about 80% of the staff. And since, sense, cents I was "the man" who took care of everything, I still get top notch treatment. Even get treats from the breakroom. Even the OR crew treated me like a king last year when I had my knee operated on. The doctor's office folks can spot a Grumblestone a mile away! They have a tough job dealing with hundreds of people a day. I spent a day at a different hospital system doing pre op for my neck surgery last June. I saw more people walk into that office all miserable because they had an appointment in the middle of the day and how inconvenient it was for them. Well they left the office the same way they came in, with a burr in their saddle. I go thru my CT scan and the tech was flustered because the patient before me gave her a hard time. I told her don't worry about it I've seen it all before and we had a nice talk about the scan dye procedure and we even joked about it. Then I had to wait 3 hours before my next appointment there. Same thing more miserable people in the waiting room. Missing their soap opera's, their golf games ect. My appt was 45 min late. Doctors and staff have to process patients, LISTEN TO patients, put in drug orders ect. Some take longer than others In all I spent 5 hours there. Left with a smile on my face.

7 pointsSo I picked a couple of these up at TSC. Look and sound great on the 1075 and the 500 Special. Need to go back and get two more. Now instead of yelling g at my dog to " get out of the way " I honk !!

7 pointsAnother vote to keep it, because it was family’s and also because if you hang around long enough, 1045’s are like Unicorns and Hen’s Teeth mixed up. You just don’t find them on every street corner.

7 pointsI have a very tired 1968 Electro that my Grandfather had for many years. I nearly never operate it, trans needs total overhaul, axles are trashed, front of frame is broke, welded, and broke again. I grew up on it as did my father. I take it out every fall and run a Mighty Mac Chipper with it, occasionally a snow blower. It has not cut grass in decades. It's more of a show piece and portable engine than anything else. But despite thoughts of moving it along for some space, I know I will never replace it. Some day it'll be restored properly. They dont take up a lot of room. If its really that big a deal, drain the engine and trans of oil, and run her right up against a wall, nose to the sky, and secure it.. it won't take up more than 3x4' of your space. I have a little old Snapper that has sat nose up for 6 years. The short money a tired out old tractor will bring on open market only confirms the 'hassle' of storing it IMO.

6 pointsI was called back to a treatment room on time but waited nearly an hour before the Ophthalmogist came in to diagnose my vision problem. I could have become indignant over the length of time, but I couldn't see (pun intended) that it help any!
-
6 pointsI vote keep it - people join here all the time looking for a comparable tractor to one they or their family once owned but regrettably sold. Once it's gone, it's gone. They really don't take up that much space, and if you made it operational, it would move out of the way a lot easier when needed. Looks like it would be a good restoration candidate. Tires are easy to get, and I'm sure someone on here has any steering parts you'd need.

5 pointsPurchased this little 400 a couple weeks back from Andy Sutherlin. Thanks to Zach Edwardson for picking it up for me. Been cleaning and adding a few items to it. Someone put water slide decals on which were coming off and incorrect. Thanks Terry at www.redoyourhorse.com for decals. Plus it had the wrong length of exhaust pipe and missing heat shield. Thanks to John Delarye for hooking me up with the shield. Yes, the engine is incorrect but is a very nice running Lauson 4 HP. So it will stay on the tractor. First four pictures are when it arrived at the stable. Last picture is with it all done. Still need to do some work on rims. video-1628471348.mp4

5 pointsI'm one of the lucky ones. Been going to Hershey Medical Center since November 2019. Spent Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year there. Only once a week now. Was every other day, including weekends, for well over 6 months. 57mi. one way. Always there 30min early. Everyone I've delt with have become like family. Nurses have told me about getting snapped at for asking a question because the patient was on the phone. I couldn't do their job. I worked at NAPA for a while dealing with the public. No thanks. I can't imagine what it's like working all the time with people who are old, sick, or in pain. When the nurses, PAs or DRs thank me for patience or understanding, I always respond with the same answer, "Hey, you're trying to save my life"....

5 pointsThere is no need to get indignant, I agree, but most of these specialists feel that they are better than the rest of us schlubs. We are just a paycheck to them. Whether they see us or not, someone gets billed. Years ago, my attorney (another "I'm better than you" type of guy) went to his cardiologist. The doctor was an hour late, so when the attorney got back to his office, he had his secretary send him a bill for $200.00. When the doctor asked about it, the attorney said the he had wasted 1 hour of his billable time. The doctor actually paid and was never late again.

5 pointsKeep it Dave although there are many here that would do it justice. Good one Kev and nailed it! I think @prondzy was awful stupid for letting this one go ..... My go to now..... It's just such an easy tractor for getting on and off of so ideal for yard work. Goes to about every show with me.

5 pointsI would keep it, and keep the memories alive, you can't replace it once it's gone.

4 pointsPullstart stuck a drill through his hand?? Why, didn't he just buy some leaches??

4 pointsMy dentist retired a few years ago and it was time, he started making mistakes. The practice was bought by a young guy with no clue about customer service and he messed me up big time when a temporary crown popped off and wasted another molar. I shopped around and found a place 35 minutes away in a different county and it has been great. Tuesday evening I broke a front tooth in half and called at 5:10 PM, if I would have been in pain they would have seen me for pain relief after hours but since there was no pain they made an appointment for 8:10 Wednesday morning. At about 9:30 AM I walked out of that office with the tooth fixed and the job looks perfect. I left them a great review.

4 pointsAnd while we are on the subject, does anyone else feel like the pandemic has created a money machine for doctors? I'm talking about TELE-HEALTH. They get paid the same as an actual in-person visit, but have way less expense, and can "see" more clients in the same period of time. And by the way, how do you listen to my heart, take my blood pressure, or check my prostrate over the phone? If possible, I always opt for the in-person visit. I know doctors are busy, but I really want mine to work for his money.

4 pointsCould they explain the people coming and going? Why did they have rooms? Different rooms for different appointments? Different staff and doctors? I can’t stand waiting while others get on with their day with no hiccup. As long as you’re on time or early, it should be first come, first served.
-
4 pointsIf this was something that someone left behind and was in the way you wouldn't have to ask. This is a member of the family and if shown a little love will become a fond memory for yet another generation or more. Lots of people are seeking the treasured memento of their past, you have yours, keep it.

3 pointsI bought a 1056 a couple of years ago and maybe did not respect the tractor as much as i should. The Raider 10 was still going strong and was my go to tractor. This one was on marketplace and 130 miles away, so i told the guy to please respect my long travel and wait for me and all that. He advertised it as a 12 horsepower and said it ran. It was a 10 and didn't. I expressed my disappointment, and he immediately knocked the $200 ask down to 150. He was also going to get it to start . He said he would, anyway So the Mighty Cummins was commissioned for the rustlin' trip and the 1056 still did not start, but i figured the parts were worth that with a deck pulley that is very expensive, and he threw in the coil he bought to allegedly get it to start. I returned it for $25 with the receipt in the box, so now it is seeming like a bargain. Now for the reason it is such a beast. The side drive on this thing has a short and readily available reasonably priced belt when compared to a mule drive pulley system out the front. The engagement lever hooks up very tightly as well. So long as you clean and lube the mower deck clutch that is spring activated, the thing will not burn belts or break anything. I had to mow a neglected yard that has not been mowed all year. The pattern was mow forward twenty feet, go in reverse to trim off the remainders, and she took that stuff right down. After the opening cut, half passes kept the cuttings from plugging the mower. The engine did fine pulling that load [42" SD] especially when you consider that is a 4 speed transmission. It might use a bit of oil, but all in all, a solid runner. I am not finding bargains like this any longer, maybe due to the new riding mower shortage

3 pointsGoogle China Bombs, then buy made in USA tires. I use Goodyear Wrangler HT LT (light truck) tires on trailers where they fit, only a few sizes are available. Goodyear now makes the Endurance ST tires in the USA and most sizes are available, they gave up on producing trailer tires in China after two failed attempts with the junk.

3 pointsI'm a fairly patient person - but I also left a doctor's office while waiting for the doctor to see me. I was in a waiting room for a very long time - and then left. This was the second time it happened - and the last time as I moved to a different practice after that. I had only been a patient with this doctor for a couple of years after my first doctor retired. I was fortunate to have a great first family doctor for decades that actually delivered me. After completing medical school, he served as a major in the US Army Medical Corps in Europe during WW II. He was decorated with a Purple Heart and a Bronze Star. After serving his country, he started his general practice. He was among the first fellows of the American Academy of Family Physicians. He served as chief of staff at a local hospital and later opened a primary care facility at that hospital. Outstanding person and doctor that provided great service to my family and the community. To state there was a let down from doctor #1 to doctor #2 would be an understatement. When I do go to my current practice - my wait is not long but I rarely see the doctor. If I do see the doctor it is just brief. Most times it is the physician assistant or nurse practitioner or whatever.

3 pointsWow, I've been following this forum for only two years, but I cannot recall seeing a unanimous verdict before this one. I agree with keep, and if you have children or nieces/nephews you might involve them in helping you return it to operating condition and let them bond with it. Full resto isn't necessarily needed.

3 pointsI waited in my cardiologists exam room for 45 minutes. When he didn't show, I put my shirt back on and walked out.

3 pointsI vote to keep it.Like others have said, once it's gone,it's gone forever and you'd probably never get it back.I have my late Father's Bolens 1250 tractor.Sits in my barn.I start it once in a while and run it around the yard.Still has the snowblower on it.Nice to take a trip down memory lane.Don't sell your memory maker......

3 pointsI have a tractor I inherited from my FIL. I spent too much money rebuilding it, but have never regretted it. If for some reason, I had to sell off my tractors, it would be the last to go.

3 pointsGot her home and couldn't have been happier. My daughter was equally as excited which was the reason I started this - yes she's young but she loves hanging out with her daddy and all things that have a motor especially mowing. Got it in a lift when it was delivered before the cash hand off no rust, no rot, new carb and fuel system, new brakes, mew belts all around, new filters and on and on really a beautiful example and a very strong running machine. The deck was rebuilt excluding the wheels which ill do when mowing season is over. There is a safety sticking somewhere. If im correct there are 3 safety's - seat, PTO, parking brake - anyone know if there is also a deck safety? and if anyone can point me to the location of a service manual that calls out the locations of these safety's I'd buy you a beer. All and all im very happy, strong mowing, strong up hills, looks fairly easy to maintain and service. She'll be used for mowing the lawn, pulling some kind of sweeper, and pulling a cart with stone, firewood etc. from time to time. No ground engagement or plowing planned for this one just some light yard work and polishing up pretty. Going to do the following except for regular maintenance and just enjoy. New Keyed ignition removal of spiked bolt head caps - replaced with something a bit more subtle Rebuild wheels on the deck Some paint and cosmetics here or there Now the REAL question.... whos got a bead on something 60's era that can be parked in the front yard for holidays with a cart holding a Christmas tree or pumpkins and hay - maybe even a lap around the neighborhood for Halloween to see all the spooky houses?!?!? Yup im hooked already
