My mate Dunc had an old buck rake of unknown origin lying about. For fitting on the rear of a tractor. We'd got it into the workshop last week to see what we could do with it. First thing was a new hydraulic hose which Dunc had got made earlier this week. With that fitted we set too to make it into a forklift, for mainly moving crates of firewood. First we cut off the two outside prongs and the centre one. Then some scrap angle iron was welded to the now outside prongs. This was to extend them to reach fully under a pallet. Pleased to say things worked well. And cheap as well.

I saw this today and thought I would repost on Red Square for members to enjoy. This is from the South Bend Tribune July 19, 1998 , page 39. The article is about the employees who made the Wheel Horse tractors in South Bend at the Ireland Road factory.

I didn't do to much yesterday, we've gotten @5 1/2" of rain since Monday. I probably should have been building a boat

Couple of pictures from last Saturday.

Worked on the FEL plow angling hydraulics. I rigged up a quick attach plow and I am getting older and don't want to get out of the seat to adjust. I used the deck lift hydraulics for the angle circuit. Still need to fab a guard up for the fittings.

Perfect opportunity to rig up a blower to a tractor PTO to make it a whirlpool. @wheelhorseman can prolly hook you up. Run a hose into the water from the exhaust and make it a hot tub!

Went over to my mate Dunc's place in Scotland this morning. There's always work to be done there and he likes my help. What we got up to is in Restorations, modifications etc.. I did mention last night in conversation with certain members, he'd got two Cocker Spaniel pups. Photo's were requested. Nothing new here. So meet Jennie and Dot. Dot is in the foreground with the patch on her back.

That's a "Heritage Lake". One of the remaining waterways here in Maine that is not stocked and still maintains it's own fish population. Brook trout in this case. NO live bait allowed. I've thought about fishing there but didn't find good access til this year. The outside edge is VERY shallow and some kinda muddy. Trina was trying to get a different viewpoint for one of the above pics and she found one can leap rocks to get out aways. Maybe next year I'll bring a rod. The moose piece we found waaaaay out in the puckerbrush on an old old grown in logging road that was only being used as a game trail for decades. Zoom in on the very last pic and you'll see that's an old log bridge!

UV rays kill tires. Especially tires that sit. No cracks show but the rubber just breaks down. Years ago you could buy a set of wiper blades and they would last a few years. Now days you're lucky to get a year out of them.

Twin Cylinder Magnums did NOT have ball bearings, and only a very few had Thrust bearings.

Kohler single cylinders have ball bearings supporting the cranks so no thrust washers are needed.

@8ntruck @Snoopy11 @elcamino/wheelhorse I have a VERY capable chipper. It was recommended to me: Do not wear any gloves or article of cloth that can be caught on a branch or twig. So now I'll repeat. DO NOT WEAR ANY GLOVES OR ARTICLE OF CLOTH THAT CAN BE CAUGHT ON A BRANCH OR TWIG !!!!!!! I've had mine catch on gloves and RIP THEM NEARLY OFF Please be mindful of the pulling power of these light industrial chippers.

Thanks for sharing that, Lane. I always assumed WH had a strong and engaged workforce to deliver such consistent quality. It speaks to the Ponds' ethic that the jobs were well paid, too. During college I got lucky and worked a couple of summers in a factory--part of the time loading and unloading automated lathes as piecework. It opened my eyes to what it took to earn a living and I've never forgotten the camaraderie of the production floor, though as the "college boy" I had to learn to endure a lot of ribbing.

Not a lot of progress lately but did get the K341 painted and head on. Went with duplicolor engine paint an really liked it. This red is almost exactly IH red so it will be perfect. I bought this engine totally apart and in boxes. It’s been frustrating to try and find all the little bits, for instance I was short 3 head bolt washers😡. Had to get some off flea bay.....

Recently got a clevis hitch and rockshaft kit from wheelhorsepartsandmore...got it hooked up and ready to do some ground leveling for a family members backyard! Just was getting everything test fitted! Ready to go!

Looked up the dot tire codes post 2000. DOT 44 15 Thanks ZXT. I never thought to look up the DOT code.

You bought them 5 years ago - but are they really only 5 y/o? I bought a set of tires at a store once (a couple years ago) that were 2013 vintage, so roughly 6 years old when I got them. Old stock they had got in from somewhere.. I had them change out to another set. I had a Hankook do similar once on my '85 Toyota pickup - except that it was just one wire. Tire is still under the truck as a spare. Do you know how to read tire date codes? Post a close up of the sidewall that's readable if not.

Agree with what is already posted- valve adjustment is the place to start. If it becomes excessive (think hammers in a dryer), it could be more involved. Worn piston rod or crankpin, bent valve, or other issues would be the worst extreme. Luckily Kohlers are rebuildable, and there's another 20-40 years of life in it! A little tick isn't completely uncommon.

That mountain is Mount Katahdin. "Mount Katahdin - Wikipedia" https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mount_Katahdin An incredible place in and of itself. We've hiked that in the past as well. In fact twice in 3 days. One of those was a 16 mile day in which we hit Mt Hamlin and the Katahdin peak the same day. There were loons, yes. The birds. And also me and Trina and our friend. 😜 We also saw a VERY good assortment of other birds. Osprey. Bald eagle. Cooper's hawk. Other unidentified hawks. Many other birds like ducks, cormorants, blue jays, hummingbirds, chickadees etc...

A valve adjustments is a good place to start. Over the years I've adjusted many, is most cases it has removed the tapping. I always check the clearance prior to making an adjustment, this will let you know if it needs it. I have had some that needed to be and some that haven't needed to be adjusted. Have you done an oil change? Proper viscosity could play a part in how noisy it is. Some preferer using synthetic oil, it is thinner and you may hear more engine noise. Maybe it's just been my luck, but most of the Magnums I've owned, tapped. I have one currently, a 10HP and when I got it it both valves tapped, after serval attempts the intake valve is still tapping. O well, I just run it.

I don't know what it is... but I know what I would use it for... Straining the oil from my Wheel Horse after I drop the oil drain plug in the oil catch container... LIKE I ALWAYS DO when I change the oil!!! Don

Dug out the old form to start thinking about arches “ collars”. It will be some insane bending.

@Carrot platinum , had my set up for years , with no problems , use lucas xtra heavy duty grease, walmart has it for $ 5 . those mule drive bearings are the same as the mower deck bearings , # 6203 ( 3/4 ) , all the bearings are repacked with this grease. the threaded rod belt adjustment is also lubed with it . works smooth and easy . finding a problem area and making a change to it for reliability , works for me . pete

I gravitate towards the clean ones that aren't complaining. Just like my tractors.

Beezer These guys love to play ID this tractor can you tell ?!?!? 702 would have had the same lower dash layout as a 753 Bob. Upper dash definitely ala 702/753, metal not plastic Bob. Steering wheel suggests a 702 or 753 Tom No parking brake and no guard on that side and belt guard knocks it back to a 701 tho Not seeing the 701 V fender brace tho. Foot rests not 701 Zooming in may be a 701 lower steering gear?? Hard to tell Front steering gear definitely 701/702. I'm ruling out 753. Good lord what have we here!!!! No matter Beez ... nice survivor and good score! Oh and no square pan seat..... well the original is prolly one of the ones Maynard is hoarding.

First of a warm welcome to red square, we are glad to help you sir. Had a spring cut its way through the clutch linkage haha. drilled a new hole and we are all good now! The clutch spring is located at the left rear-tire under on the trannsmission

Mine is about 30 years old. My dad planted it by the pool to "stay warm" but we've almost lost it a couple times due to frost. About 6-7 winters ago the top 2/3 got killed. Since then, I've learned that putting a fan or two around the tree during cold nights will keep the frost off. It's really started growing like crazy since then. I suspect you might want to bring it inside during your winter... 😂 😂 My dad said it took 10 years to produce fruit because it was started from a seed and not grafted. I have smaller, grafted 3ft tree that was planted last year and already bore fruit.

Got the chipper/shredder out and processed the yard debris I swept up with the yard sweeper the other day. Next, I played @ebinmaine junior with the Horse and yard cart to move the big pile of split birch to the wood rack near the fire circle. 5 or 6 cart loads later, that big ole pile of wood turned out to be about a face cord once stacked. We are set for bonfire wood for a while.

I don't know if you would have enough clearance with the heat shield, but, on my 520 and 417, I was able to put the trunnion on top of the PTO lever to get better alignment.

Something to remember ( and which I almost forgot) is the PTO engagement lever has a trunnion on it that may have to be moved to adjust the tension on your mower drive belt! I placed my 2002 side discharge deck and a new wheel horse pto drive belt on the 314 hydro today and kept noticing no real cutting of the grass e we hen pto was engaged. Finally took PTO bell off and looked at bearings, greased it and put all back together. Then I was face to face with the trunnion on the threaded end of the PTO engagement lever! Oh maybe I need to move it back to tighten it up a little! Oh it cuts as free that just fine!

Thanks everyone, I appreciate the input. When I saw it, I didn’t even know they made the model and I have worked on and owned several C series tractors in the past. And by me quick research it does seem quite collectible. I would certainly field offers for it as it is, but it was about to be scrapped and I didn’t want to let that happen so I brought it home and I’m just worried about having the time to work on it. I’m not necessarily looking for top dollar, I’d just like to make a few bucks to cover the gas of getting it and a little extra to put at other projects. Maybe a middle ground is best. Clean up And paint the hood and fenders, tidy the wiring, and include a few extra attachments and make a package. If anyone is interested feel free to make an offer. Just trying to save a cool machine and I’d rather it go to someone who has the time to fix it up right. Thanks again for all the input.

702 If it's Kohler powered

Will update this tonight. Got the rebuilt transmission back last Friday afternoon. We put it back in the car Tuesday. Had to wait until neew speedometer gear arrived to buttton it up. Was using the one out of the transmission I removed and it was twisted on the shaft. Took it out for a drive this evening just to get some miles on everything. Seems to be good except for these people making all kind of motions when I go by!
