10 pointsKind of a side view Sunday this am! I washed up my old Wheel Horse dump cart and put in on my 314 hydro . Took the 314-8 out to clean off the mower deck from yesterday’s mowing job! A good looking and working pair of 314’s! *****. I had to post something with my 50th Anniversary tractor on page 500! *****

9 pointsGot some new rubber on these wheels that I restored. Still need to put the bearings in the fronts, but always love the smell and look of new tires!

8 pointsSorry, I know, it's a bit of a cheat, but it is a side shot and it is Sunday!! It's all I've been working on for the last month of so. I just drover her out of the shop. It's time to get back to the Wheel Horses.

7 pointsRecently picked up an old mackissic chipper/shredder with the intention of converting it to 3pt for my kubota. Well I started looking it over and frankly got impatient to build the 3pt setup so I adapted it to my 1054. I know they made these for later model tractors in the 70s and on but never saw one on a 1054. Worked out pretty easy actually. The 1054 outside frame width is 8” and the inside width of the chipper is 9. I took two pieces of bar stock that were 1/2” thick and made a “H” bracket by welding them together with a piece of 1x1 tubing. It bolts to the front of the frame and to the back of the chipper no issue. Next I needed to figure out belt routing. Had a mower deck for a 1054 I wasn’t using so I grabbed the two idler pulleys off that. The grooved one I bolted in to the side of the grill piece where there was already a hole. The flat pulley I mounted to a piece of flat stock and welded that to a sleeve bushing that ties to the H bracket with a bolt. Finally I used a spring pulled back to the frame under the engine to keep tension. thw whole setup works surprisingly well with little effort. I still may make it 3pt to have the added horse power but thought I’d share it.

7 pointsI obtained an older roller and stuck an engine in it. The sheet-metal was in excellent shape but the paint was faded and it had surface rust here and there. I took 0000 steel wool and Windex to the entire machine to clean it and then I used matte clear coat on everything. It doesn’t attract dust and it will last for years. Also, if you need a touch up just get the old spray can out and give it a couple of shots and it blends perfectly even years later. I like the look because it doesn’t give you a shiny/Rusty look. It looks exactly the same after I cleaned it as it did before so it has not affected the patina at all and that’s how I like it. First two pictures are right after I cleaned it up and put some new decals on it in the last two or how it works now, years later.

7 pointsGot to turn some earth with my younger boys this afternoon. It wasn’t the best plowing but it was decent. It is always fun to spend time “in the saddle” with my kiddos. Zach was doing really good with GhostRider and Judge was plowing with his CC100. We turned about 2 acres in a few hours…might upload a video to my YouTube channel later.

6 pointsThis comes up pretty often. The locking bolts in the axle hub should be torqued to 28-32 ft lb. Most know you can't do that with a 3" wrench. If you have an eight point socket, great. I don't. Not sure I've ever seen one. I use a 3/8" hex head socket 3/8" drive. I put the 3/8 drive end on the square head of the bolt and use a 3/8" socket on my torque wrench...
-
6 pointsToo true Kevin—another reminder to enjoy every minute with them🤗 This picture is one of my favorites! Dan took it the first day that I plowed with GhostRider in his old clothes. This also was the first time that Zach plowed with me. That was SIX YEARS AGO! Now Zach can plow by himself…

6 pointsI like Jims lawn. No need for a mowing deck and all that maintenance. When the weeds get too high he just scrapes them off.
-
6 pointsAll this time I thought anything to deal with hubs and wheels used hillbilly torque. ... it's measured in grunts.
-
6 pointsYeah the rear tires were still holding air after years of sitting. No cracks at all, just some weather checking. They are goodyear 23x10.5x12. They may be borrowed by my 312 while I sort out the engine I plan to leave it for now with the patina look. I will clean it up as best I can though of course so it's not dirty. Initial assessment is I think the trans is fine as it goes through all ranges and gears fine...the engine has no compression but I don't hear any odd sounds coming from it when I spin it by hand... Hoping it's a stuck valve...the clutch pedal is stuck pretty good. Has no muffler so may be searching for one or fabricating a cheap one to fit. This will be fun to dive into though. I'll post progress as I make it...

5 points... and we have 500 pages of Wheel Horse happiness. Just mentioning...

5 pointsWow thanks bunches fellas. Actually worked my tail off today. Got the horse hauler ready for the next show. Got a load of dirt to fill in around were the county had to cut into my driveway for new blacktop on my road. Then grubbed out some very old lilac bushes that seen better days. Kept ripping off the license plate off the hauler when backing it down the lane so had to go! Got by with a little help from my friends. I shoulda coulda woulda been up north hob nobbing with @Achto but this is the first weekend in along time at home so need to get crap done around the ranch. Actually never cracked a beer but saw the captain when the food went on around 4. Cindy made some awesome kabobs with shrimp, andoullie sausage and the works. She also got me some nice presents. I don't deserve her! The big 62 I know I could be retarded..... er retired like Squonky but the pay checks are still too nice!

4 pointsHey y’all! It’s been a while but here’s some updates… I got the engine mounted and attached all the guards for the engine. Also started color sanding the hood and seat pan. Got some decals on. Also changed the hydro and engine oil. I fixed the oil drain so it doesn’t leak. It’s running well but I noticed the tube from the engine to the engine fill cap is leaking oil but I will just fix that up with some Teflon tape. Overall it’s coming together nicely!
-
4 pointsI had a 414-8 follow me home!! I am going to temporally transplant the engine in my sons pulling tractor then that will give me time to rebuild his engine. I don’t know what I’m going to do with this tractor after… my son says we don’t have this model tractor yet.

4 pointsI made a little progress today. I cut everything off the the top of the deck that I don't need. I got most of the steel pieces cut to fabricate the mounts and gauge wheel parts. I removed all the spindles. At least one may need a rebuild. I'm using a gauge wheel bar from a 48" deck. It will be modified to work on this application. The height adjuster will be mounted on top of the deck and connected to the gauge wheel bar with a rod and heim joints. At least that's the plan for now.

4 pointsFor 25 bucks you stole it! The back tires and rims are worth more than that! Good luck with it, I hope you get it going again.Keep us posted.

4 points96 yesterday with 99%. 94 today. I don't care how tall the grass gets. I'll use Roundup if I have to later. When a stroll 20 feet requires a full change of clothes, I'm not working out in it. Many years ago I could stay out in it all day and feel fine. After 50 years, I'll stay indoors.
-
4 pointsNot a thing. Too hot out. Did find something to do inside though (in the air conditioning )

3 pointsHello and thanks for accepting me. Grew up mowing with my Dad's D160. It was a beast. Came across a 310 with a tiller for a good price so brought it home today. Now to find a snow blower for it

3 pointsJust wanted to say thank you to everyone still paying attention to this one. I did in fact buy the 312-A and I couldn’t be happier. I took all the advice given very seriously and put the machine through its paces before forking over the dough. I got it for a very very fair price. But equally as important as everything mechanically it was the support I got here that helped push me over the edge to buy it. Having backing up like this I have no problem buying a 30+ year old machine. Thank you all again!!

3 pointsI too installed a Wheel Horse Parts and More receiver; on this less than auspicious 50-year anniversary of a certain unhitching.

3 pointsThat is an EXCELLENT paint booth. I am going to have to check into that. Sure would save a lot of mess in my garage.

3 pointsSo let me start this with a little back story. I grew up in Upstate NY and my family always had a vegetable garden. During my high school years we had a 1 acre garden that we sold the produce at the local farmer's markets as well as processed for ourselves for winter. One of my many streams of income during my teenage years. Three years ago I was finally able to buy a house in suburban Chicago that I had space to do a vegetable garden... One of the staples of my childhood was eating sweet corn during the summer, so of course I wanted to grow it in my current garden. Needless to say, I have had multiple issues over the past 3 years with squirrels devastating my corn. Well after 3 years, I have finally been able to enjoy the fruits of my labor with much labor in downsizing the squirrel population in my area. To date I have bated and dispatched 112 squirrels and have been placing them in the back hedge row for nature to take care of them. I have never had a morning that I didn't go check where I placed them and they were gone. With much curiosity from me, my wife, and friends as to who was partaking in the free meal, I finally put a trail cam in the spot to see what was removing them and this is what it caught. The funny thing is, we haven't seen any of these guys roaming about the neighborhood this year even though we have seen skunks and opossums in years past. I know you deer hunters out there put trail cams up to see what's out there prior to deer season, but I'm curious if anyone else had any interesting trail cam videos or pics. 3 points@peter lena I might try that on the 607, I did the Marvel Mystery Oil wipe down but not that spray down. @OutdoorEnvy, that is a bargain! I bought a non-running repowered 607 and paid $150 for it. Looks like I need a transmission service. Good luck, looks very nice for how old it is.
-
3 pointsIf you were retired, you could do something about that grass! Wreck her tractor and then dump her out of a trailer and you STILL get presents???? Yup the paychecks have their advantages! Surprised you didn't get your own Pooper Scooper.
-
3 points@OutdoorEnvy very nice steal on that ! referring to patina saving , my own experience , is a very simple aerosol lubricating spray down , just do that, nothing elaborate , just let it soak into the metal . after the wet look starts to dull , wipe it down with a clean cloth . following day do it again . if you wipe it down at all ,wipe down till dry , that's it , you have fed the metal and stopped the rust . I do that on anything I pick up , surprisingly that process , will support any car finish cleaner , just my own experience , pete
-
3 points@Wheel Horse 3D , thanks for the feed back , was just thinking about anything related to a problem , is usually hiding , in plane site , swapped out shaker plate years ago , on my c-85 , never looked back . always looking for a way to improve , anything . just working the original set up , has led me to the cure / answer to a nagging problem . good luck with it , pete
-
3 pointsNice setup. It may work better if the spring loaded idler was on the bottom belt span. The top span is the load side and as the load varies the belt tension changes. Easier to take up with the idler on the bottom. Garry

3 points@Wheel Horse 3D, got any adjustment on that belt ? another thing that might be related , ever lubricate that pto cone needle bearing ? I use lucas x-tra heavy duty polyurea anti sling , hi temp grease , walmart $ 5 , my pto,s and related bearings spin up with ease , since using it , also no bearing failures , my experience, pete

2 pointsit depends on what you’re looking for. All the stuff that I’ve purchased new or almost new still looks new 40 or 50 years later because I kept it inside and that’s all you really need to keep your paint looking fresh. My 30 year old pick up truck has never had anything more than hand washing and it still looks like the day it rolled off the assembly line. When I get an old tractor from somebody else who did not keep it inside and it’s faded, I like to retain that patina look. The matte finish will keep that patina look without introducing an artificial shine. And, if kept inside the paint will never need anything else done to it if you protect it with the matte clearcoat.
-
2 pointsMore progress today. I made the height adjuster out of a broken lift bar. Everything is still being mocked up. I discovered that I will not be able to use 8" front wheels on my tractor with this deck as they will rub the deck, unless I cut the deck...

2 points@OutdoorEnvy, transmission service is for a manual trans is rather simple , verify the condition of the existing " fluid " , usually milky and a watery rusty combination . jack up front end off ground to enhance drainage , get a new shift boot , this not a one and done service. I personally would use fuel oil or atf fluid , the cheapest , but fresh you can find . once refilled , you should drive it and use it , best on empty road , use every gear / range , especially reverse . regularly check dip stick for color change / condition . remember you are flushing out neglect , done mine at least a couple of times , before the oil ,holds its look, then finish with a 75-95 gearoil . just my own experience . remember this is not a quick oil change , its an oil cleaning flush out , and fresh refill . trans should work smooth and easy , also LUBRICATE RELATED CLUTCH LINKAGE , NO RUST , JUST GREASE AT ALL MOVEMENT POINTS . this is my own experience , and works well , pete

2 pointsMy girl!! I used to hate the thought of having a dog because they shed and drool etc. now I cannot think of not having her. She is just over two years old and my hinting dog/ family pet. Her name is Harley. She is an English Lab.
